I'll be 68 Tuesday & I just started canning this year. I always helped my mom when I was a kid, but I always thought that it was harder than it really is! This year was our first time canning, and I wondering about the cucumber and okra be above the brine. Would it be an issue if all of it isn't submerged in the brine?
@ntxg We have used okra that was as much as 4-5 days old. What is the difference from using only 1-2 days old fruits? We have a small garden and don’t can every day. My wife has her own recipe and I haven’t noticed any particular difference when eating them.
I called the company to ask if you could use the different pickle mixtures for Canning okra and they said no each mixture is made specifically for the vegetable. You should only use the okra mixture for the okra if you use the other ones they may not be safe after a week.
I made pickled okra for the first time this year and I used the Mrs. Wagers regular dill pickle packets. It's great and we're enjoying it.
