Top video mate. Just started my kitchen diner again after 3yr break and 1st job is to insulate and screed floor. This has shown me what I need to know 👍🏻
Shoukd you not have put a 1 inch thinkness of insul board around the boundry walls and butted the 6 inch insulation up against it? Whats stopping the cold bridge there
quick question ..... how would you run central heating pipes to radiators or electric cables if the floor is now solid concrete and walls are solid brick?
So you can lay insulation on top of the concrete? What goes on top of the insulation? I'm building an extention and want to insulate the old part of the house, I was advised to dig down 8 inches, DPM, insulation then concrete over.
Hi, thank you for posting this video. Does it matter if the insulation is dipped in some areas and all the insulation isn't level. We have had timber floors removed and concrete flooring put down. Some.of it is quite unlevel. Is this a problem for underfloor heating and top screed? Thank you
Do you need to screed this after? Or could chipboard be used instead? I’m in a 8 year old house with a concrete floor and it’s supposedly insulated, but freezing in winter on the outskirts of the house mainly. Just looking for ideas before I replace flooring.
No, not at all! A laminate floor has no ability to bridge between the foam panel joints and no ability to withstand point loads like the feet of furniture. Instead, lay a 22mm water resistant chipboard floor, with all joints staggered and glued with pu adhesive. Make sure all dried adhesive is removed from the joints. Then install your laminate floor. Cheers
Wondering if you could help me I’m planning to put my insulation boards down this weekend and noticed you have put yours right up to the bifold doors. I would like to do the same! Did you have to remove the inner course of brick and lay concrete in the cavity? Any help or advice is much appreciated. Thanks
@@ConstructionwithKieren I’ve had my slab poured to the inner skin so trying to come up with a solution so I can screed/ tile up to the bifolds 😬 Thanks for the reply 👌
Hi, this is a great video! I am just about to do a mini garage conversion and wondered if I could use the 100mm Celotex insulation with Screed on top to bring the garage floor level with the rest of the house. Will I need a DPM layer over the Celotex before laying the screed? Really appreciate your advice.
Hi did you manage to do your conversion? Im trying to understand which would be a cheaper option to raise the floor . Floating floor or using celotex and screed
What point weight will this take? I’m doing a garage conversion (concrete floor levelled off using levelling compound) then I was going to use this method this method with chipboard or plywood over the top 18mm. I intend to put a weights in there, will it crush the insulation if I do?
Just a question but if you use a plastic sheet under the concrete, why would you need insulation? Wouldn’t the plastic prevent the concrete coming into contact with damp and cold?
Out of curiosity, do you know how much weight these panels can take once they have a screed cover on them? I want to put a large fish tank in a room with these under the screed, but I am worried it's just going to collapse!
@@ConstructionwithKieren Thanks for your reply Kieren. I meant that polythene (dpm) at minute 3:48. Is it ok to put polythene on top (or below?) of the insulation board as an additional layer of insulation to the floor? Thanks again for your reply.
Hi there many thanks for the video What do you fit on top of the newly insulated floor or is it floorboards or can you put carpet directly on top of the insulation?
Stephen Price hi there, so we have 4 inch of concrete then 4inch of insulation which you can see in the video and then we have 70mm of floor screed. That’s when you put your carpet/flooring down ontop of the screed!👍🏽

Glad it helped mate!
Lovely to watch, great builder and decent music, what more could you want.

Chipboard flooring straight on top
Congratulations, good job!
Thank you! Cheers!
Is there another video where you add the concrete?
There should be a layer of DPM between the slab and the insulation and another layer of VCL before the screed goes on.
Theres already a layer under the slab so no, you dont need one directly above it
Rubbish. There’s a layer of dpm under the insulation no need to have another one
Insulation should be staggered, and any gaps between the boards should be filled with expending foam
Solid work mate. Making it look easy. 🔥
Thanks mate!!

No it doesn't matter to much, ideal if its bang on level but that's hardly ever the case!
So the question is will 100mm thickness meet the new regs or will thicker PIR be required for floors?
It’s all down to the building inspector mate
thank you for sharing!
My pleasure!
Just out of curiosity... I need to raise the floor by 200mm+. Can I double up on the insulation? Or is that a no no.
Great job guys i have learnt a few tips from your vedio, have to do my house as well thanks a lot for the update..
Thankyou for supporting the channel! Hope you enjoy upcoming videos👍🏽🧱
Better use Isoleika's ISO-CON panels. class A1 fire rated and 0.02 W/mK, apart of x2,5 compressive strength! 👍
Good luck finding them
hi was there the insulation under the slap, is that the only insulation of the floor?, thanks !!
Do you need to screed this after? Or could chipboard be used instead?
I’m in a 8 year old house with a concrete floor and it’s supposedly insulated, but freezing in winter on the outskirts of the house mainly. Just looking for ideas before I replace flooring.
Ideally you should screed as its much more of a solid base!
Why do people install the insulation under the concrete slab and some insulate above the concrete slab ?
Could you plonk a laminate floor onto that without needing a screed?
No, not at all! A laminate floor has no ability to bridge between the foam panel joints and no ability to withstand point loads like the feet of furniture.

Good Video buddy 🙂
Put foam in the gaps between boards? How much would that improve the insulation?
I’m guessing it would slightly but the sheets are very tightly together as it is mate
I was also thinking whether foil tape over the joints would be worthwhile?
Do you install wet underfloor heating systems?
Can this be used to insulate a garage floor ?
If cars are going to be driving over it I assume not I'm afraid
Great videos, any videos of the extension build or details of the sizing and roof build?
thetrevcom I’ll be honest I never had any recording equipment at the time of the build, new extension videos will be in the coming weeks though🧱🔨
Is the dpm under the concrete. Is that the black dpm I can see around the edges?
Yes under the concrete!

Yes you do mate, you don’t always have to but it’s preffered better insulating wise!

@@jimmyryan1988 if not double layer the insulation in the cavity next to the bifold!

do it have to be foil backed if its just a normal screed over the top ,no under floor heating ?

@@Fleed907 I put a wood frame underneath in the end, all worked out fine - make sure the floor is well levelled though
Just a question but if you use a plastic sheet under the concrete, why would you need insulation? Wouldn’t the plastic prevent the concrete coming into contact with damp and cold?
The plastic is to stop the screed from eating into the foil of the insulation
Hey man, how do you lay flooring on top of that?
Depends on what floor it is mate
Can I install a vinyl sheet or peel sticker on top ?
@@oltaniecharles as long as you lay down plywood and then underlayment you can put down any vinyl tile.
Did you tape the joints?
Yes mate!👍🏽
Would it not sink after years of installation? Do you concrete over them boards?
Why would it sink?

You should be able to put any amount of weight on it mate Aslong as the concrete base is thick enough and the screed is also!👍🏽👍🏽

Lost me once the EDM started playing.

what way are you finishing the walls off,sand/cement render or dot and dab,,cheers
D&D with plasterboards mate, it’s the easiest/cheapest way👍🏽👍🏽

No In needs some floor boards first then floor of your choice
Concrete goes top of that?
screed does yes
no moisture barrier?
Under the concrete
And then goes over the celotex
