I spotted the wonky brick, but in all honesty nobody will notice it after a week or two; there are always bigger issues to worry about!

Laid them spot on. I like the way of making them level and aligned. The only thing I didn't get is that you levelled left to right but not along the trench.

Dude … that DPM needs to be right up to the edge of the brickwork. The reason I’m watching is because I’ve started repointing a house because the lead underneath the coping was an inch away from the edge. Also had to go redo a parapet because we-laid the damp 5mm back from the face. Caused a lot of damage inside the house.

er, shouldnt they be once weathered (slope on one side.. thinnest part facing inwards to the roof)) as its a parapet roof as opposed to a garden wall.

Quick one mate, that is a DPC you put down before coping correct? I've got to do a repair and thought of putting that down first on the parapet wall before laying coping stone.

Insulation should be staggered, and any gaps between the boards should be filled with expending foam

I'm not at all confident that thermalite is a suitable material for building a house/building on top off. It is lightweigh and has little compressive strength. I am amazed that it seems to have approval for this task. They may have run 'tests' on it but how will it perform in 30 years, 50 years time ? You cananot test for time and material changes. They are a good idea in terms of convenience and speed, but I would have thought a 3kn block would be more suitable.

There's always a close enough brick color and texture match if you shop around enough to find it. Why bother? Because the best brick repair doesn't look like a repair and the customer is always happier with a match that's at least close.

Very interresting to see, thanks! I have a little job like this coming up on my own house - a 3,5 meter beam, that needs to be changed. I plan on doing it myself even though im not a bricklayer. So wish me luck :)
