  • When you're installing underfloor heating, the subfloor construction method is different than that of a standard concrete subfloor.
    With underfloor heating, the concrete slab is below the insulation whereas with a standard concrete floor, it's above.
    Join John as he takes you through the basic principles of underfloor heating and explains:
    🔵 Why you don't run pipes beneath kitchen units
    🔵 What a heating manifold is and how it controls the areas of the house
    🔵 How and why you need to pressure test the system
    🔵 Why liquid screed is better for underfloor heating
    🔵 Why it's imperative that you allow enough time for the screed to dry
    This video also includes detailed diagrams that illustrate the exact subfloor construction layers required for an underfloor heating installation.
    It also shows the construction method of a standard concrete subfloor and how this differs.

    This particular underfloor heating system being installed as part of our greenbelt development project in Stoke-on-Trent where all work is being done under permitted development.
    Not only will the property benefit from warm floors throughout, but the walls have also been heavily insulated to ensure it's protected against the elements.

    This is a brilliant video, very helpful. I will be having new sub floors this year. What would be the difference if you are using eclectic underfloor heating ?

    Great video. Super informative. How long would you recommend for the screed (that gets poured over the piping) to cure before laying your flooring of choice?

      Hi Rob. Thank you for watching our video and for your question 👍 Can we just ask: are you using traditional screed or liquid screed? And what depth are you going to?

    Is there a difference between PIR insulation being installed below or above the concrete slab? It looks like this video has the insulation above the concrete slab but my drawings have it underneath.

      No so insulation goes underneath.
      Under floor heating, the method is, concrete slab, insulation, underfloor heating (wet system) then screed over the top.
      Using appropriate membranes where necessary.

    Great video bud.
    Question, if it’s going to be a while before you screed, is it ok to walk over the pipes etc?

      Thanks for watching and for the great feedback, Martyn - much appreciated 👍🙂 In short, the answer is no, you shouldn't walk over the pipes. Once the underfloor heating pipes have been pressure tested, you should screed straight away if possible.

    Can you do the subfloor without concrete slab adding more sub-base material? Thanks.

      Hi Raul. Thanks for your question. You do need a concrete slab - building control won't allow you to do otherwise. Best to consult them first, though, as they may be open to other suggestions.
      Thank you for watching our video - we truly appreciate it 👍

    Hi, my builder has used, hardcore, certified stone, radon barrier, insulation, vapour barrier, ufh, and the next step is screed. I have been asked to decide on sand and cement screed or liquid screed. It is a small mid terrace. Which would you recommend?

      Hi Caroline. Thanks for watching and for your question 👍 Both will do the job, but we prefer liquid screed because it dries faster 🙂

    Looking for help purchasing a bungalow built 1960s electric underfloor heating do I keep it ? And install insulated wet underfloor heating with air source heat pump? Because I am not replacing gas or oil boiler no grant. Floor area 100ms

    Hi,What would be the approximate cost for it ?

    • @HYPEBuilding
      @HYPEBuilding  Рік тому

      Hi Shincy. Thanks for your question. It's very difficult to give an accurate cost or a price per square meter. With underfloor heating, it all comes down to the size of the house/room you're working on and the depth you're digging out.
      Hope that helps in some way. Thank you for watching our video. Much appreciated, as ever 😀👍

    WTF is the point of a DPM with holes in it every 200mm?

  • @andrewmerrell5702

    Can you use 100mm of PIR insulation instead of 150mm?

    • @HYPEBuilding
      @HYPEBuilding  11 місяців тому

      Hi Andrew. Thanks for your question. It's whatever Building Control deem to be OK really. If they say you're OK to use 100mm instead of 150mm then all good.
      Thanks for watching our video - much appreciated.
