      Love Dingle! I am seeing more of them in my area. Maybe on my list next year depending on the Powers John's Lane 12 CS that should be coming out.

  • @Robert.Sheard

    Cannot disagree with Fusion. So delicious.
    My rye might be the Jack Daniels barrel strength or the Found North batch 003, but Sagamore DO is a great choice.
    My Japanese is also Yoichi! But I I can’t find many of the single malts.
    Irish is Redbreast 12 cask strength.
    My peated scotch is Octomore 14.1. Too expensive, but gorgeous.
    My nonpeated is either Bunna 12 cask strength (2023) or Ardnamurchan.
    My bourbon is… ??? Way too many fabulous to choose from.

    Really nice list Peter. Because I just started my journey this past spring, I have not tried a whiskey in every category, and some only one. However, I will give it a go. For my international choice is Starward Nova Single Malt for Australia. My rye of the year is Milam and Greene Rye Port Finish. I have not tried any Japanese whiskey so I will switch categories to American Single Malt, which in my opinion should be an eighth category. My choice is Westward American Single Malt. My Irish of the year is Power's John's Lane. My Peated Scotch is Glenglassaugh Torfa even though it is no longer distilled. It was the only one I tried, but it is so, so good. My Non-peated Scotch is Craigellachie 13 Year. Lastly, my Bourbon of the year is
    Saints Alley Bourbon Port and Cognac Cask Batch 6.

    • @whiskeyisajourney
      @whiskeyisajourney  6 місяців тому

      My channel started off with American Single Malts. I am a big Westward and Westland fan and I thought that American Single Malts were going to be my focus in the UA-cam world as far as channel content. Within a month that idea when out the window along with my budget. Cheers and happy new year.

    Thanks Peter. My whiskey of the year (so far have a couple to open brfore Jan 1st!) Is a toss up between Knappogue Castle 12 for the refill coconut glory or Springbank 10 for the sweet diesel

    My Top 5 are Springbank 10, Kilchoman 100% Islay (any bottling), Larceny B523, Redbreast Lustau and last but not least, Kilkerran 16. Have a Merry Christmas Peter and a fantastic 2024.

    That's a great rundown of the runnerups and winners for the whiskies of the year Peter. I would go with this in order of the video - Indri, Piggyback 6 (only a couple of ryes in my collection), Nikka Miyagikyo, Powers John's Lane, Laphroaig 10 CS, Tobermory 12, Wild Turkey RareBreed. Happy Holidays, have a great Christmas, and a Happy New Year Peter!

    • @whiskeyisajourney
      @whiskeyisajourney  6 місяців тому

      Indri is a popular pick for a lot of people. I need to give it a try. Maybe it will make my 2024 list. Powers John's Lane is moving up the ranks as well. If the cask strength hits the market I'm sure it will overtake RB 12 CS. Cheers!

    Nice lineup! Sagamore’s are great! Blue Spot is a really nice pour! Redbreast is always good! I would love to get the OF & KC they sound great! Hard to say top pour but I’m really liking my Russell’s Rickhouse CNF, Little Book chapter 7, Jack Daniels twice barreled heritage rye, KC 18yr, and Michters 10yr rye!! Can’t choose just one:) Cheers

    Another great video Peter.
    Had the Amrut Fusion single malt for the first time last month and agree it is very good.
    Love all Sagamore products and the DO is always on the bar and I normally have a back up bottle for it. But the 8 year is probably my favorite then depending on my mood the Sherry or Rum cask. I also enjoy the Barrrell Seagrass but prefer Found North batches.
    But the rye that blew me away this year was Barrell Grey Label Seagrass 16 year old Rye. It is just phenomenal.
    Nikka from the barrel was just ok for me. This year I only had 3 Japanese whiskeys and none stood out. The one I liked the best was in a noodle shop in Edinburgh Scotland and no idea what the name was. I think it was a Yamazaki. I really have not had many Japanese whiskeys.
    Absolutely love Blue Spot. I was fortunate to pick up a few the last couple weeks at $89.
    Redbreast 12CS is awesome. For me Redbreast is the best whiskey line in all of whiskeydome. Surprised you didn’t pick the RB27. My Irish of the year is the 1999 Irishman 17 single cask. Just an incredible drop of whiskey.
    Springbank is so very hard to find. If I want it I have to order it and Hazelburn overseas.
    Love Port Charlotte. Octomore is my favorite but getting too pricey.
    Picked up another 13.1 last month.
    Love the 2022 Bunna 12CS. I was lucky as it was easily available in my state last year. I even bought another one last week. Went in to buy the 2023 CS and they had a 2022 left at $99 so bought that instead.
    I love the love for Knob Creek. This past year I finally had the KC18 and it is fantastic. Maybe not twice as good as 2 KC12 I could buy instead but still a great pour.
    The bourbon that hit all the right spots and just love it was the 2022 Yellowstone Limited Edition. I love Marsala cask whiskey and this blend of 7 yr , 15 yr & 16 year bourbon is awesome.
    The Lix Row Double Barrel was very good this year and I love the Little Book Chapter 7. Bought a backup the day after buying and trying my first one. I will be buying another to bunker.

    • @whiskeyisajourney
      @whiskeyisajourney  6 місяців тому +1

      Oh no. You are not going to be very happy with me. I just shot a Sagamore 8 year video and I did not like it very much. Although I'm not the biggest rye fan so take it easy on me in the comments when the video drops. This might shock you, but I don't like the RB27 at all. It's one of my least favorites in the lineup. The Little Book Chapter 7 and the Knob Creek 18 will be making an appearance in my allocated whiskies of the year video coming out Friday. Happy New Year. I'm looking forward to 2024 . Cheers!

    Hey Peter. Luckily for me this video came up on my feed. Hadn’t heard of your channel before but just subscribed. I gather you’re in the Phoenix area? I’m a Chandler resident. Got into scotch about 7 yrs ago. I tend to only have 3 or 4 bottles on hand so haven’t tried too many this year. International: Paul John Peated. Peated: Ledaig 10. Non-peated: probably Arran 10. Not a big bourbon or rye fan but am really getting into tequila these days.

I wouldn't call it my whisky's of the year but The Whistler Bordeaux cask, The Smoky Scot Madeira cask, The Deacon, Templeton Rye 4y and the Teeling Stout cask impressed me the most last year, happy holidays🥃

    Knob Reserve remains the best shelfer of all time. It’s too good. I actually have found it a lot more consistent over time BECAUSE it’s a single barrel. A lot of blended/batched bourbons have been proven to have gotten worse over the years, but Knob Single Reserve has been very consistent since I have been drinking it over the past 15 some years since there are no blending variabilities to worry about.

    Just blended the 1910 and 1920 in a old Russell ten year bottle letting it sit for awhile but the glass I poured is really good. Added a bit of WT 101 to the bottle which certainly doesn’t hurt. And I’m fine with that pick for bourbon of the year I like the single 9 over the 12 but it’s a proof thing. Knob Creek is one of my favorites period. Not a peat guy so I’d remove the peat whisky I’d say if you got rid of the peat it would be better. Hope you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Enjoy!!

    Nice wrap up Peter, looking forward to your other lists. Knob 9 is such a hitter for the price its unbelievable. And I'm sipping a Port Charlotte while I watch.
    My list for this year:
    Irish: yellow spot
    Unpeated Scotch: Bruchladdich islay barley 2011
    Peated: talisker 10
    Bourbon: New riff single barrel
    But honorable mentions to Calumet 16 and knob creek 18 (splurged on both to serve at my wedding after party this year and they were awesome).

    Interesting selection - I will have to seek out the Amrut Fusion. As for me, the Old Forester Single Barrel is my top bourbon with Knob Creek coming in at a very close second. My other favorites of the year are Westward Cask Strength - American Single Malt, Barrell Seagrass - Rye, and Nikka Coffey Malt - Japanese. ...and I will NOT be making a Frankenblend of those😜 Cheers and Happy New Year!

    Man, I wish RedBreast Cask Strength was $80 here. Last bottle I got was $110

      Ouch! It's probably going to be that soon here as well. It's up to $94.00. I got this bottle last year. Shows you how much prices have jumped over a short period of time.

      Honestly I have not even tried to make that connection. Now I will the next time I have them.

    the classic laddie actually has an age statement of 8 years on the European markets

      I'm grabbing my bottle and looking at it closer for an age statement. Nope. Nothing. I wonder why it's aged stated in European markets and not here?

      @@whiskeyisajourney interesting thing upon further looking into it, it seems that the local shops just mark the Laddie 8 as the Classic Laddie. I'll have to import a bottle of the classic and compare, always thought they were the same thing

      Far better than I could have hoped for. But the anticipation, the drama, is like rolling dice. Well, for me it is.
      Cherry on the top of masterful reviews.
