    14 = High West MWND; 13 = Little Book Ch7 (the malt was the hint); 12 = No Guess; 11 = No Guess; 10 - Calumet 15; 9 = Knob Creek 12; 8 = Angel's Envy Cask Strength; 7 = Jack Daniel's SBBP Rye; 6 = Woodford Reserve ??; 5 = Barrell Batch 35 (oops); 4 = ECBP C923; 3 = Four Roses LE Small Batch (oops); 2 = No Guess; 1 = BTAC something....
    Great list. Wish I could get many of these in Canada. Fun way to do a video.

      Thanks for playing along. I thought I'd try something different. I find out in March if I get another opportunity to get another GTS. Fingers crossed.

    👍🏾👍🏾SOO glad you didn’t do the typical Corney list every other channel has, and shyd away from allocated whiskey just because it’s pricy or allocated !

    2 of 14. And I only sampled one of the 14, and at least I got that one correct. Super high proof and grape, JT Stagg was my shot in the dark. ECBP C923 was my other correct guess. I do not get a marker note. I think that you experienced as an astringent note, I experienced as an over steeped Earl Grey, but I love my tea bitter so this was a plus for me.

    • @whiskeyisajourney
      @whiskeyisajourney  8 місяців тому +1

      I think the C923 is a rich complex pour. I'm hoping it opens up more the longer it's in the bottle. I also have a bunch of points again from Total Wine so I have another opportunity to get one of the BTAC bottles in March if I get selected. Fingers crossed.

    I love your channel. Honestly my palate is not nearly as developed as yours, and I can't identify most of what I taste, but hearing your descriptions and the depth of your experience combined with the way you try to engage the audience is fantastic.

      Wow! That is very nice of you to say. I really appreciate the kind words and the feedback. Are you new to whiskey? If so give it time. Everyone's palate develops at different rates even if you've been at it for years. Cheers!

    Impressive list, Peter! Thanks for sharing. Any plans for doing any other best of 2023 lists?

    • @whiskeyisajourney
      @whiskeyisajourney  8 місяців тому

      Nope. I'm finished with my best of the year stuff. Now I need to finish my bourbon and scotch Friday series. I think that will be wrapped up at the end of February or early March.

    Admittedly I forgot that 13, 12, and 11 existed but was 100% on all the others. 11 out of 14 ain’t bad I don’t suppose. Great list to be sure and a very fun way to present it. Bravo Peter!

    • @whiskeyisajourney

      11/14 is admirable. Just about 79% if you round up. 👍 Side note. I'm in the running for another allocated bottle from Total Wine. I put in for Pappy 23 first GTS second and Eagle Rare 17 third. I'll find out in March if I get the chance to buy. Cheers!

    Here were my guesses and why as I was watching
    14. Midwinter nights dram (based on finished in port and proof)
    13. no clue... (the reveal made me facepalm, of course that's what it is)
    12. no clue... (I get a sharpie note on the reveal)
    11. Gem of Kentucky (based on proof and price point)
    10. Remus Gatsby reserve (based on proof and price)
    9. Hardin's Creek Clermont (based on price and age)
    8. Angels Envy Cask strength (based on price and port finish)
    7. Jack Daniels BP Rye (based on proof and banana note)
    6. Woodford reserve historic barrel entry (based on proof and price and vanilla note)
    5. Four Gate Andalusia Key 2 (sherry and rum finishing notes)
    4. Elijah Craig C923 (price point and Classic bourbon notes)
    3. Thirteenth Colony double oaked batch 1 (Double oaked, age and price point)
    2. Russel's Reserve 13 year (based on price, proof and age stated suggestion)
    1. 2022 George T Stagg (proof, price and popsicle stick note)
    So, 9 out of 14, not bad I think. It was a great year for allocated... not so much for standard shelfers. Still, craft whiskey keeps getting better. Hopefully we see some more competition this year.
    Still, a great list!

      9/14 is not bad at all. Thanks for playing along. I have only been in the whiskey scene for about 2 years. I am wondering what the best year in whiskey has been for other people and why. If 2023 was a banner year for some people I want to know how this year stacked up against other years. How about you? Where do you stand?

    • @graveshotx
      @graveshotx 8 місяців тому +1

      @@whiskeyisajourney This year felt like the return of aged whiskey. Between 1924 beng announced, cellar aged and ECBP getting an older age statement, it seemed to me like distilleries were finally competing on age again. Unfortunately it was all allocated. As for previous years, I'm still pretty new, but 2021 and 2022 felt like the tater years, driving up prices. Things feel more stable now.

    Now THAT'S a lineup. I have only had a couple of them (ECBP, JD), but it's been a good year for whiskey.

    • @whiskeyisajourney
      @whiskeyisajourney  9 місяців тому

      I agree 2023 was a good year. I wonder how it compares to previous years. I've only been in the whiskey scene for a short time so I would be interested to hear from someone what their favorite whiskey year has been and why.

    • @Robert.Sheard
      @Robert.Sheard 8 місяців тому

      @@whiskeyisajourney That would be interesting. I've only been involved since 2020, and didn't really start picking up any limited bottles until this year.

    Amazing bottles all around..!!!
    Bottom half: I got the Knob Creek. In the top half I was good on the JD barrel proof rye (based on the price).

      I racked up a lot of points last year and I I'm in the running for the opportunity to buy another highly allocated bottle through their rewards system. I'll find out in March if I was selected.

    Pretty nice list. I only guessed 3 lol.
    Never had a Four Gate as not sold in any state near me and only time finding one was priced at $400.
    Congrats on the GTS TW win. I only won a KC18 (which I love) but at an inflated price so I passed on it

    As if us peasants can afford most of them expensive bottles.

    • @whiskeyisajourney
      @whiskeyisajourney  8 місяців тому +1

      I understand that allocated or expensive bottles are not in a lot of people's wheelhouse, but having these bottles is part of having a UA-cam channel. I feel very fortunate to be in a position that I can buy bottles like I have in this video. I am not married and I don't have kids and I am very close to retirement. That said, I am in a good position in my life that I can put my money towards bottles like this. Cheers and Happy New Year!

    I don’t think you’re missing much with the MM cellar aged. I tried it next to a private select at a bar and the private select won hands down. If you can’t find it for a good price with low effort it’s not worth chasing unless you’re really big on MM products. Cheers!

    • @whiskeyisajourney
      @whiskeyisajourney  8 місяців тому +1

      There are a few bourbon bars in my area. I'm going to see if they have the MM. I'm interested to see what all the fuss is about even if it's overblown.

      The two Four Gates were so good and so different I had to include them. If you get a chance to try them I suggest you do. IMO they are worth with it. Congratulations on getting some correct.
