    Can you break it down into seasons? I'm so confused lol I'm in thinking
    Winter needs: emollients by themselves.
    Spring/Fall needs: emollients & humectants.
    Summer needs: humectants by themselves.
    ? Do I have that right?

    • @Halo2glitchlover22
      @Halo2glitchlover22 4 роки тому

      Honestly it depends on the weather where you live. Where I live, this whole winter has had dew points in the 40-50 degree range which is apparently safe for using humectants.

    • @taiyabazaheer9492
      @taiyabazaheer9492 3 роки тому

      I'm late and maybe you've figured out yourself by now. Glycerin, the best and most common humectant works best in temperatures between 4°C to 16°C which is spring in Canada but in India (my country) is Autumn-Winter and early spring. So humectants are to be used in this temperature range and accompanying low humidity (but again not too low as in snowy weather). Emollients are commonly found in conditioners (and maybe in styling products too) and are to be used in all seasons as they soften and nourish your hair. Occlusives (dimethicone,Coconut oil, petrolatum and so on) are final finishing products used after drying and while need them in all seasons, they're particularly important in high humidity (which is monsoon and late summer in India) or extremely low humidity (snowfall). Hope this helps! ❤️

    • @enchantedcupcake877
      @enchantedcupcake877 3 роки тому

      I don’t think it matters as long as u put a good occlusive product over it that doesn’t have humectant

    • @Aligirl77
      @Aligirl77 5 років тому

      I was on the swim team back in the day! You'll need a shampoo specifically designed to break down chlorine in the hair so it can wash out. I got mine at Walmart. After that the hair will be dry due to the chlorine exposure and the harsh chemicals it takes to break it down in the shampoo, that's when it's time to deep condition. The jamaican black castor oil deep conditioner mask from shea moisture is what I used along with their leave in conditioner afterwards. I hope this helps!

    @Mel: so happy I found your channel. Not gonna lie, I straighten my curly hair pretty much all winter into spring (until it gets too hot and humid to do so; but don’t worry, I use heat protectant, leave in conditioners and also let my hair air dry about 80% before blow drying and then flat ironing straight). My question is, I use the rake and shake method to define my curls, but I ALWAYS am so unsatisfied with how the top portion of my head turns out. I watched your previous twist curl video, but I’m super confused as to how to achieve a good curly look for the top section of my hair without pre-parting the top portion of my hair. ANY advice is greatly appreciated. Summer is coming and I want my curls to look good and last for days. 😬

I still have a lot of frizz in the mornings and I’m the type of curly girl that prefers definition over volume. I live in the Pacific Northwest (Seattle/Portland) so it's definitely moist here from the rain but probably on the mild side - even our snow is "wet snow." I just bought both the humectant and anti-humectant pomades from Aveda. When would be an appropriate time to use the Humectant one? I was thinking the anti-humectant one for the rainy season but then wanted to see if the Humectant one would help with my hair dryness

    Thank you for this very informative video. I love watching all your videos I would love more hairstyles for curly hair. My hair is just like your sister's hair. its long I have a very hard time styling it when I wear it down and just feels like I have too much hair on my face. I look like a Chia pet.

    What do you use to keep your blonde toned that is also not hard on your curls? Shampoo? Conditioner? I cant find a brand that doesn't dry my curls out and make them stretched out.

    Hey Mel! I have very fine, high porosity (highlighted), curly hair. Curl creams weigh down my curls. Am I using the wrong one or should I try something like mousse?

    I use jojoba oil to SOTC and have been getting great results!! Is it because it’s an emollient?

    If you’re applying a moisturizer then humectant then emollient, do you still need to apply a gel afterward (if your emollient is a cream and not a gel)? Also, I’m still confused about a moisturizer vs emollient. If my leave-in conditioner, which I assumed was a “moisturizer”, contains an emollient as it’s second ingredient, should I skip it and start my routine with the humectant product? I...may be overthinking this 😜

    I recently cut my hair because it was chemically damaged, but I’m having trouble with defining the curls. I live in Puerto Rico, so the weather is basically rainy or too hot. A lot of humidity in the air. What do you suggest?

    could you please explain why hair frizzes in humid weather even though I use products with humectants?

    So did you end up using a humectant then 2 emollients? Even though the Aveda product is called a humectant it seemed like you were saying that it is emollient... can you clarify?
