I honestly nearly didn't watch this because I've seen so many youtube videos about protein in ingredients but you actually gave me some new information, I had no idea about the different sizes of protein molecules and how it can be used for different textures and porosities! Thank you!
How timely! Last night while drifting off, I said to my husband, "I think my hair has hygral fatigue." He gasped and said, "Oh NO!" and fell fast asleep. I know he was just trying to care, but there is no possible way he has any idea what hygral fatigue is!😆😆😆 ANYWAY, thank you for uploading this today! More helpful than my sleepy husband!
wow u got a husband who pretends to care even when hes so tired he falls asleep straight away ....wow that is a lot for a man u should be grateful lol I wish I had one of those !
Omg Courtney! Adding 4 drops of neutral protein filler to my Bouncecurl conditioner and 3 drops to my Ecoslay gel has COMPLETELY changed my hair for the better. My hair craves protein and this is by far the best delivery system I have found!
Your videos are always so knowledgeable and entertaining. I'm only 4 months into CGM and still working on finding my best routine for my 2a/b waves and continue to learn something new with each of your videos. Thank you so much for how in depth you go in ingredients and techniques.
This was really helpful. I'm almost 2 months CGM, and my hair is drinking up all the moisture (I live in a pretty dry climate), but I also feel as though it likes a little protein in the mix too. In case you are looking for video topic ideas, I would love to hear you talk about regular rinse-out conditioners vs. deep conditioners, and whether it's more about the products/ingredients themselves or the amount of time you leave it on. I feel like that's an area I haven't heard all that much about, other than specific product recommendations, so I would love to hear the nerdy details.
Just found your channel! This video was just what I needed. I started practicing the CGM in 2014 . I had very course, low porosity, extremely protein sensitive hair and never could use protein. Fast forward to my hair now after undergoing harsh chemo treatments a year ago and it is much finer. I believe I will now have to use some protein instead of just all moisture. This video has given me great knowledge on what to look for!
So glad I found your channel. I never thought about protein. I just kept buying moisture products and not getting desired results. I'm going to try some of the products you have talked about.
Watching the straight to curly video where you did you sister's hair taught me SO MUCH MORE about styling my hair properly than any other videos I've watched. I guess because you were doing the techniques as you were describing them, AND answering her questions, there was way more focus and highlighting of techniques I didn't even realize people were doing/supposed to think about. Like breaking the hair off the back of the head specifically, this changed my hair outcomes completely. I have so much more to learn. I would love to see more videos like that! maybe reactions to someone else's wash day or describing things they're doing that they aren't explaining etc
Thank you! Literally was searching for this today! I wish companies would just label it on the front of their products.... “glycerin free” or “protein free” or “glycerin added” or “protein rich” something like that. It would save us to a of money and trial and error.
Your hair and your headband look so cute today. My hair defies nature, as it is coarse and low porosity, but can't seem to get enough protein. I am very easily over moisturized and use protein in almost all my stylers (while still trying to maintain a balance). Protein makes my hair feel soft and smooth while adding to my curl definition, I don't know what I'd do without it!
I had just found your videos 3 weeks ago and I'm so obsessed! They are so helpful. I have done the CG 10 years ago or I tried but didn't understand the right products. My mom tried to help but my hair is so different from hers. I have thick blond 2b/2c curls. Im on week 2 of the CG, I did a major cut 2 weeks ago (went from hip length hair to just above the shoulders) using Not your mothers curl talk line. Omg my hair is so so curly now. But it's frizzy all the time. Florida's humidity sucks. I also touch my hair a lot while its drying. But I'm try not to. Love your videos Courtney
@@jennifermunoz7375 thats awesome! My hair is definitely more curly, everyone is noticing it too! Yay another CG in Florida! The humidity is a real drag
I'm only four minuets in and I can tell this is already going to help! Thanks a bunch Courtney!!!❤ Curly hair care seems so confusing🙈😂. Thanks for making it easier to understand!
Absolutely brilliant video Courtney! The detailed explanation of proteins in general along with the walk through for every product makes this a one-stop video for anyone trying to understand protein usage and it's effects☺️
Fantastic video! I recently tried the Ecoslay Matcha Protein Shake and finally had my curly journey ‘aha!’ moment. My fine hair LOVED it. The minimal ingredients are great and you have to store it in the fridge which seems pretty legit lol. Thank you once again for sharing your awesome research with us hair adventure enthusiasts 🙏🏻👍🏻
Hi! This is entirely unrelated to this video, but I had a question about PH. I believe it was in your Simply Curls Co video from a year-ish ago that you mentioned that the PH of your conditioner affects whether you can use it as a leave-in or not. What PH range should you be aiming for? If the conditioner says "PH balanced", does that fall into that range? Thank you so much! Your videos have helped me so much with my curly hair journey.
This is awesome. You know what's interesting is that for years my favorite shampoo has been the Moroccan oil hydrating shampoo. I've tried other Brands based on recommendations from hairdressers who think my hair is medium fine and straight. So things like redkens volumizing injection shampoo and many others. What I have found is that all these have no protein at all, not in the shampoo and not in the conditioner and not in the leave In conditioner, and my hair feels awful and limp... like it's gonna fly away and just weird.. But that hydrating, shampoo and conditioner combination from Moroccan. Oil does contain protein, so on a whim, i picked up a cheap drug store leave in conditioner. That's focused on hair growth and has protein in like the top three ingredients, and my hair loves it. So what's great is that I get to go back to my favorite shampoo because it really is the one that treats my hair the best. And I now know what drug store things to look for for the things I tend to not spend money on, so leave in conditioners and gels, and curl creams, and all of that stuff. I don't like to spend Moroccan oil prices for those. But I know now to look for proteins in those products because of your channel, which will save me from all sorts of bad purchases.
OMG who watched your old protein video like three times and wrote down all these long names you suggested as protein ingredients and finally bought a protein full conditioner today?! 🙋🏻♀️ And yes, there I was at Ulta with my notes on one hand and reading bottles with the other until I found the perfect one. I used it and I FINALLY understand what you mean about your hair looking and feeling like seaweed when you wash it!! My hair was obviously craving protein because it feels amazing now! For anyone wanting to try a protein filled product but stay within budget, this one was $5.99 It’s by Hask and it’s called the keratin protein smoothing conditioner. I don’t know if it’s strict CGM approved but no sulfates or parabens.
So I have 2B/2C hair and I used to use Pantene. I switched to Kristin Ess and my hair is terrible now. After going through your channel I think I’ve learned that my hair might be in protein overload. I’ve decided to start trying the curly girl method, I’m going to get the suave clarifying shampoo and find a curly girl approved, protein and glycerin free, deep conditioner and try the methods that you’ve shown. I’m not sure whether to go completely protein free or not. I think I might try using the blueberry leave in conditioner you mentioned in this video and have everything else that I use be protein free. When I used Pantene my hair was really healthy, and now it looks terrible. After learning about ingredients from you I looked through them and realized that Pantene is protein free while Kristin Ess contains a lot of protein. I have coarse low porosity hair (which you also taught me) and I’m realizing my hair might hate protein. I know that Pantene contains silicone and sulfate, but I want to point out that Kristin Ess while it is sulfate free also contains silicone. So that’s not what’s wrong. With all of this being said, I’m going to start the curly girl method and I’m not sure whether to go completely protein free or to use the blueberry leave in conditioner you mentioned in this video
This is a good reminder that I’m long overdue to do a home gelatin treatment. I’ve neglected the treatments during covid-19. Working from home means I haven’t felt the need to be super strict about my CG routine. I thought my hair was stretching out due to length it’s grown over this time, but it’s probably needing that protein boost.
I have a mixture of coarse and fine hair that I finally figured out loves protein more than moisture. Without protein and just moisture my hair gets straighter and straw like.
I've seen you and others use and review Olaplex 3 to reconstruct your hair. It's also touted as being good to use prior to coloring your hair. I have used it for regular reconstruction and prior to my latest color treatment 2 weeks ago. I assumed (I know) that it had proteins in it, but then you didn't mention it in this video. So, I went and looked. It does not. So, my question to you is what's the difference between Olaplex 3 and a protein treatment? When should you use one or the other? I also just watched your video on the No Product Protein Wash Day (I'm not sure if that's its exact title) where you use a protein additive that is usually used for color treatments. So, I am totally confused as to what I should do to protect my hair before and after a color treatment. I don't do this very often, but if I've learned nothing else during this pandemic, I NEED to color my hair more now ever.
You definitely need a combo of both! Olaplex is a bonding treatment, which means it reforms disulfide bonds in the hair, whereas protein repairs the keratin bonds in your hair. Both types of bonds are damaged by heat, coloring, chemical treatments, etc. So both need their separate treatments! Hope that helped! ❤
Ok, my hair is suddenly super hard to comb, tangly, feels rough. So protein overload must be the issue. So what is a good deep moisturizer without protein?
@@shawneepierce704 Courtney likes Jessie Curl Deep Conditioning Treatment. No protein. I’ve used it and liked it. However, I’ve recently found a full line (including a curl cream) of customized hair products called Prose. It comes with either a pre-shampoo scalp mask or a pre-shampoo hair mask. I went all in at the end of September and my hair (which had dried out and was probably on protein overload) from the first used has been soft and fluffy and much less tangly. You answer a lot of questions about your hair, how your wear it, how you wash it, what your lifestyle is (workouts and where) and then where you live. It adjusts for pollution, hard/soft water, sun and, of course humidity. My hair does not like glycerin and the only product with it in it is the curl cream and it’s about 1/2 way thru the list. AND you get to adjust the formulas as you go. It’s a little pricey, but I’ve been using it over a month and a half and have only replaced the curl cream at $25 (the going rate for most products). I’ve still got about 1/3 each of the mask, shampoo and conditioner. HINT: they don’t automatically put into your system the leave-in or curl cream, so add them. Both are MUSTS. Easy styling and quick refreshes using both products. I tried just the curl cream, but I still got more tangles than I wanted. They DO, however, automatically put in their hair oil which is steep ($48), but will last me longer than its use by date I’m sure as it’s a larger than most bottle and I only use it on occasion. You can opt out and add any of their products and they are made to order according to your consultation results. Oh, and you can pick your fragrance or go fragrance free, like I did. And fragrance free is exactly that - except for the oil, but it smells deliciously like almond oil and does not bother my EXTREMELY sensitive nose. Back to your original question, the Prose hair mask is THE BOMB! But Jessie Curl is a good OTC alternative.
Love your videos! We have totally opposite hair types, but I still love watching what you upload. I'm super curious... WHERE do you find your t-shirts? That's one of the things I usually notice early on in your videos. I love the one you're wearing today!
I may need to do a protein treatment or use more protein heavy stylers. My hair is no longer curling up as much as it was or holding the waves past day 1 wash day. Or...it might just be too long & heavy since Covid has made getting regular salon visits impossible. I normally get a color refresh every 6-8 weeks & have my long layers trimmed & shaped up. It's been a while since I've been in & my hair grows fast/is thick.
Me too! I haven't had a trim for months, and we're back in lockdown here again so I have no idea when it's likely to happen. My hair basically had hydral fatigue, and I switched products, but have only just discovered that the new ones don't have protein in them either!! My hair is like Courtney's sisters hair, although not as long and I have a lot of really coarse silver ones now too. Have you watched the video that she did recently doing her sisters hair? It's really good for our type of hair!
@@cathismith2624 I did see that video. My biggest issue with hair products is the fragrance, especially shampoos or anything that comes in direct contact with the scalp/skin. I've never been able to use hairspray. for instance Shea Moisture was so heavily perfumed that when I opened the Ulta box it was like a punch in the face. I returned everything (something had leaked in shipping) without even using it. Their shampoo made my scalp very itchy & inflamed 😪 So basically any product has to pass the fragrance test *first* & unfortunately many of the shampoos/Leave-Ins people rave about are very, very scented.🤭 That's why I was interested in the protein filler since it allowed flexibility to add to any conditioner or styler I was already using. I also have Olaplex & should probably just give myself a treatment. I've noticed that Keratin products have made my hair feel dry & go straighter in the past soooooo I'm careful to not overdo protein. If anyone knows of brand besides Jessicurl that offers unscented shampoo/conditioner options that contain a mix of moisture & protein, please let me know 😁
@@narayaniji8699 It's when your hair is so over moisturised that it's basically damaged - I got it because I wasn't using any products with protein in them (I just thought that my hair needed more and more moisture, as my frizz was worse and my curls were really droopy - I also had no idea what I needed to look for in products....). I think that I found out about it either in one of Courtney's videos or I know that Manes by Mel definitely did one on it.
Have you ever tried the Giovanni Golden Wheat shampoo as a clarifying shampoo? It is sulfate-free but their website and Amazon descriptions list is as a clarifying shampoo.
Hi, The more research I do of protein and moisture balance the more confused I get 😣 I don’t know what to do with my hair! It doesn’t hold its curl and is very soft. When I did the elasticity test it broke.
I have not gotten a haircut in almost a year thanks to covid, and thought my hair was just getting so long that it was stretching out my curls, especially since the strands are super thick and heavy. I use two protein products (curls leave-in and biosilk gelee), so I didn't think I was lacking protein until I did an hour-long protein treatment and my curls perked up so much it looked like I had gotten a hair cut! It was the Curls reparative mask, but the protein ingredient isn't in the top five, which makes me wonder if I don't really need a ton of protein, just a little boost every so often. This mask was a week ago and my curls haven't stretched yet.
Hi Courtney! I have been using the cg method for 4 months now and my hair is getting healthier💃. Thanks too you I learn something new every time! I have a question how can I reduce crown frizz? argan oil and gels or the LOC method do not yet have the desired result unfortunately☹️
I get lots of extra texture & frizz in my crown area. I have to add a lot more moisture to that area & try to keep protein away from it for the most part. I love argon oil or coconut oil products. I apply a good amount of hydrating / moisturizing conditioners & masks to my crown, but not every single wash day or it’ll make that area very flat and lacking volume.
My stylist told me to avoid protein. Apparently if there’s no damage (what she described as holes in the hair) protein sits on top and can causes dryness, even breakage. Protein’s not good for my hair.
I know you mentioned the SheaMoisture Manuka Honey & Yogurt Hydrate + Repair Protein-Strong Treatment once upon a time, what do you think about this product for protein?
Shelby H I feel your pain! It’s really tough to find protein-free stylers that actually work well how I want them to. So instead, I try to incorporate protein-free products in the other parts of my routine like shampoos & conditioners. Also a good moisturizing protein-free mask now and then for extra hydration is good too. I also like to use oils as part of my styling routine. Those really help seal in all the moisture.👌 We still need “some” protein though, so our curls don’t get too moisturized and end up with “hygral fatigue”😖🥴 So I mostly just try to keep my protein product ratio a lot lower than the protein-free products that contain moisture. I hope that helps🙂
I've been so confused about this subject. I find it scary! I've heard about how protein can damage your hair so I've been scared to try it. My hair is fine and soft. I've heard that hygral fatigue feels very soft (and like gum?) Mine feels like a cloud (if that makes sense). It's light and feels nice, actually! SO, on that longwinded note, I still have no idea if I should put my big girl pants on and TRY a protein treatment. I will definitely check my shampoo, etc. and see if any of the protein ingredients you mentioned are in them. I'm currently using the LUS Brand/Love Your Curls trio. Great video and thank you for trying to educate me! Hugs from Louisiana!
Don't worry. Protein can't really damage hair. And it's not permanent. You can reverse it with tons of moisture though that may take days or salt which will take mins. Just start slow by mix a bit with your regular conditioner. Your hair should feel stiff and strengthened but not too straw like. Then follow up with a deep conditioner
I somehow found your videos 2 weeks ago, I am now the proud owner of the jessie curl line, the giovanni line, the kinky curly curl custard, the perfect brush & towel and a few other accessories... I am not really sure what i am doing, but i have gone all in!! Today was the 4th time i have washed, used products, plopped and dried naturally. My hair looks exactly like your before video!! I have a very hard time not touching my hair while it is drying and i have a LOT of frizz around my crown...
If you are able to do Courtney's Curl Class, I can highly recommend it!! I'd been doing the cgm for about 8 months and decided to do it (and book the 3 zoom calls for a discounted price with her as part of it) and I learned so so much!! If you're just starting out, I'd definitely recommend that you do it and don't spend as many months as I did trying to figure it out. Note: I'm not getting paid to say this 🤣
My hair is coarse, but I find it's very easy to make it too moisturized. I always get confused when people tell me that coarse hair needs more moisture and less protein 😅
I have coarse low porosity hair. Everyone says that my hair type doesn't need a lot of protein. However, my hair gets over moisturized easily and it seems to LOVE protein. I use protein in every wash day, and I add Neutral Protein Filler to both my rinse out and leave-in conditioners. I am glad I'm not the only one whose hair doesn't fit the basic protein/moisture rules lol
My hair is also coarse and I think low porosity. I’ve only been doing cg about 7 weeks but I feel like it’s even more frizzy than before ( if that’s even possible). I haven’t done a protein treatment yet but now am going to thx to you guys and hope that works! Wish me luck🤞🏻
Lily Lau thank you, tried clarifying last week and the frizz was no better. I followed her protein routine this morning and it’s so much better! So glad I saw your comments cause I was really doubting I needed a protein treatment with my coarse low porosity hair! 😁
Question: You say that the proteïne in Moptop conditioner wash out again. But what doet STC with the proteïne? I thought you push in the proteïn with stc.
How do you know where to start? I feel like all the good products are expensive. Good thing I don't wear makeup, it all goes to haircare. I know I need to add a protein routine. I think I might start with the curly option you gave on this video. Thank you
Hi I’m recovering from years of bleach blonde highlights on my fine wavy to curly hair. It’s dry so I’ve been using just non protein products. However after watching your video I’m wondering if my hair needs both moisture and protein? I assumed my hair snaps if I do the strand test because it’s lacking moisture but is it maybe also because it’s lacking elasticity due to lacking protein?
Hi Courtney! I’ve just started watching your videos. I just got a protein treatment (it says right on the directions that you shouldn’t wash it out), so I tried to use it like a leave-in. The very moment that I put it on my head, it busted up all of my clumps! I couldn’t salvage my clumps after that and my hair looked like a stringy mess. Why did it do that, and how to I rescue my clumps if they shatter into a bajillion pieces like that again? Sorry if you already answered this before in a video that I have watched yet.
I was just wondering about this today. Also anybody use Mane & Tail yes the horse one I'm looking at the deep moisture formula but it also has protein?
I'm not sure if my hair is over-moisturised and needs protein? I assumed I needed deep conditionning because I've just started the curly girl method and everybody says to start with moisturising. My hair is chemically treated & I've done Olaplex 3 before, so I assumed I needed moisturising rather than protein, but my hair is also really fine & shows signs of needing protein (dull hair, feels wet even when dry, waves fall quickly). Can I try doing a protein treatment - what would people recommend for fine wavy hair? (i'm currently using noughty wave hello shampoo, garnier almond crush conditionner & leave-in, john frieda curl reviver mousse & eco olive oil styling gel)
Hey C! I heard you say Briogeo has Glycerin at the 3rd ingredient I think.... I’m thinking to avoid this in dew points above 60??? Please help....I bought it and SCARED to try yet! Would you use it as the last styling product....again worried about my dew points!
Hi Courtney, thank you so much for this - so incredibly helpful! Can I ask what the proteins are in your long-beloved Giovanni products? I’ve been searching the ingredients and can’t find any which include the terms hydrolysed, protein or amino acid... although the front of the bottles insist that there is protein in there! I’m in the UK, so formulations may be a bit different. Thanks so much 😊
I bought the Matcha boost protein as I heard all those good reviews, but both times I used it, I ended up having overmoisturized hair. Once I followed up with the Banana DC, once without but still both times the same result. Does that mean my hair did not like specifically Quinoa Protein? My hair looooooves gelatin treatment though 👀
Have you tried K18 hair mask yet? It's not CGM approved but I've had some good results. I have damaged hair since I highlight. Thought I would mention it, my curly specialist suggested it.
How often do you do protein treatments? I feel like my hair might be over moisturized pretty easily (I also get oily too but that might just mean I need to wash three times a week instead of two)
My hair gets over moisturized really quickly, I find that doing a short dirty deep conditioning treatment on rare occasions works best, I need them more in the winter than the summer. For protein treatments, I do them maybe once a month but always with a moisture element. I also wash with a low poo more often than I cowash because I need to get all the stuff off my hair. You might try dirty deep conditioning with a protein treatment, then clarify!
Hello! I have a question and i need help pleaaasee. I’ve been doing the cgm method for almost a year now. I have fine, 2b/C waves. I just did a deep conditioning treatment using ecoslay banana cream and immediately after i rinsed it out my hair felt really rough, gunky and so tangled! So i’m wondering if its protien overload ? Although i dnt knw if this deep conditioner is even rich in protien ?
You have never spoken about Aphogee 2 steps protein treatment or Aphogee 2 min reconstructor.... ppl rave about these products what do you think about it ?
That stuff seems like a ton of work and kind of messy. As well as being too strong. That is the protein treatment that scared me off from using protein early on in my healthy hair journey. I heard horror stories of people having their hair break off because of that treatment.
Hoping you could answer a question? The giovanni leave in you recommended in another video you said it is protein free but says it has Glyceine Soja (Soybean) Seed Extract, looking this ingredient up it says is an amino acid from soybean. Although I've also read it's used in cosmetic for moisture. It's a bit confusing. So the question is, does this leave in have a small amount of protein in it?.Thanks for the great hint and tips in these videos.
My hair is very protein sensitive. I used the Giovanni leave in not realising glyceine soja is a protein at first. Over the few month I used it, it gave me increased breakage.
For protein and silicon free I use, oxg hydrate and color reviving + lavender luminescent platinum shampoo which is also sulfate free, that’s the only one I could find in that brand that’s protein and silicon free. Redwin tea tree shampoo which I only ever use to clarify with and Garner fructis hair food, so far have used the banana, papaya and the macadamia one. I also use the garner hair food as a leave in as it’s designed to be used as a hair mask, conditioner and leave in. If I’m co washing, I use sukin hydrating conditioner, Followed by the garnier hair food. The Maui moisture curl quence shampoo and the heal and hydrate shampoo are also protein, silicon and sulfate free but I haven’t tried those. I haven’t found any styling products.
@@SwavyCurlyCourtney I also need light weight products so I've been struggling. Just learned about protein overload about a month ago and bought a ton of new stuff that I'm slowly trying (travel sizes if available) any recommendations?
I’m dealing with high humidity and over moisturized hair so I have been testing some styling products. I also noticed that aloe was almost as bad as glycerin right now...with this extreme heat and humidity. Biosilk Rock Hard Gelee, Giovanni LA Hold Gel, Giovanni Leave-in Conditioner, TreLuxe Hi Definition gel (aloe gave slight frizz), TreLuxe ReFlex Serum (aloe gave slight frizz), Biotera Alcohol-free gel (has glycerin very low on the list but has anti-humectants at the top...so no frizz). I finally had success using a 123 gel was day with Giovanni leave-in, gel#1 Biotera, gel#2 Giovanni, gel#3 Biosilk (check out honestliz’s Instagram or blog for this technique). I’m on day 3 with no frizz and minimal refresh...this is a first for this summer. I’m sure there are more options out there but this is all I have tried. Hope that helps!
You have the shiniest blond hair I ever seen. It might sound like a stupid statement but I never really seen super shiny light hair. Maybe because most people aren’t a real blond. 😬 maybe dark hair looks shinier because the difference of light (shine) and dark (natural hair) is greater than light hair or maybe I’m talking out of my arse. I like your bread spread. Where did you get that if you don’t mind me asking.
I believe that CUrl Junkie is a small women owned business in the US. They may not be ready yet to expand to global market. I don't think that there are any bad ingredients in it.
Jessicurl Aloeba Conditioner doesn't contain protein, it's hyrdolyzed oat flour. Their product description "The fact that the formula is free of silicones and proteins means that you can leave it in without fear of you hair drying out over time."
Correct! Some labels actually say just hydrolyzed oat (without the flour). I have actually had people reach out to me on instagram telling me that Jessicurl "does contain proteins". That is why I worked to clarify that in this video.
Swavy Curly Courtney And one more thing - you were saying several times, that hydrolyzed proteins are bigger proteins with large molecules (big guns), but it's completely opposite - they are small molecules
H0NEYMOURN it's not about what substance containe chemically, but how it works. Aloe is bringing moisture to the hair, so it’s humectant. The amount of amino acids it contains isn’t enough to restore hair cuticle so it can’t be considered as protein in hair care
I honestly nearly didn't watch this because I've seen so many youtube videos about protein in ingredients but you actually gave me some new information, I had no idea about the different sizes of protein molecules and how it can be used for different textures and porosities! Thank you!

Omg we same the same type of hair I also choped my hair i started the cg method 4 months ago and Ive seen more and more improvement
I also live in florida
@@jennifermunoz7375 thats awesome! My hair is definitely more curly, everyone is noticing it too! Yay another CG in Florida! The humidity is a real drag
I'm only four minuets in and I can tell this is already going to help! Thanks a bunch Courtney!!!❤
Curly hair care seems so confusing🙈😂. Thanks for making it easier to understand!
Absolutely brilliant video Courtney! The detailed explanation of proteins in general along with the walk through for every product makes this a one-stop video for anyone trying to understand protein usage and it's effects☺️
Glad it was helpful!
Courtney, you always brighten my day (and help with hair issues) ❤️
I want to know more about this, too. And where that info came from!
a little late, but PH balanced means balanced to skin PH which would be around 7-8. For your hair you'd want to be around PH 5
Can u please do a routine for low porosity hair ❤️❤️
Sure!!
Great information!! I struggle with moisture and protein balance because my hair is fine and curly.
You got this!
Where did you purchase the Hask ? Thank you
@@victoriab123154 Ulta but I’ve seen it at Walgreens and target as well!
Stiff, mine feels stiff and brittle when it has too much protein.
So ready for this video!!! I’m so confused about proteins!! Moisture ingredients make so much more sense to me.
I have a mixture of coarse and fine hair that I finally figured out loves protein more than moisture. Without protein and just moisture my hair gets straighter and straw like.
Omg yaaaaas favorite time of the week!!
You are so so sweet! Thank you Amy!
hildreth Thank you. That explained it in simple terms. Very helpful.
I’ve been wondering the same thing about the Olaplex #3, glad you asked!

*Swavy Curly Courtney* omg you're video so amazing !!!
Such a informative video...was always confused about protien... definitely learned a lot about protien ❤️😍
If anyone knows of brand besides Jessicurl that offers unscented shampoo/conditioner options that contain a mix of moisture & protein, please let me know 😁
@@cathismith2624 what is hydral fatigue?

Thank you for explaining protein better! You broke it down better than I’d ever heard it before. I may try the Curl Junkie. 😉
How is your day two hair not a frizzy tangled mess 🥺🥺
My stylist told me to avoid protein. Apparently if there’s no damage (what she described as holes in the hair) protein sits on top and can causes dryness, even breakage.
Protein’s not good for my hair.
I know you mentioned the
SheaMoisture Manuka Honey & Yogurt Hydrate + Repair Protein-Strong Treatment once upon a time, what do you think about this product for protein?
Where is your headband from ? Love your videos.. 😍
Hi Courtney, Mop Top is changing. I wasn't sure if it's just the bottles or formula. Any idea? I love the old formula.
Where do you get your shirts from!? I love them all!
Their her designs. She sells them.
My hair loves protein. This was good. Where can you get the travel size curls leave in?
SO GOOD!🙌😃 I’m definitely a “LESS protein” curly girl!☺️ I also love the CURLS brand blueberry line & Briogeo!😍 Cute headband! 🤍
Would you mind sharing what protein free stylers you use? My hair is hating protein and I realized all my stylers have protein🤦♀️
@@Icyjessy1 Thank you so much, Jessica for the advice! I will give it a shot!

Note: I'm not getting paid to say this 🤣
Does anyone know if she dyes her hair that ashy blonde? It's really pretty just wondering what color dye it is if she does 💗🙆🏼♀️
Pretty sure it's her natural hair color. She used to bleach it lighter.
Oat and wheat one and only look it up on Amazon its amazing

What are some good products with less protein and more moisture
Brilliant video Courtney ❤🥰
LOVE your hair in this video!!! Thanks for all the sciencey info!!
Studying proteins now and have a test tomorrow. Aah!
And do you like Aveda Curl Controller and Curl activator spray?
Can someone please explain how biotin is a protein? It's vitamin b7.. taken internally, helps produce keratin but how is it a protein topically?
Can you do an update on the denman brush?

My hair issent even thst damaged. But i need kinda alot of protien... atleast i think so
You have never spoken about Aphogee 2 steps protein treatment or Aphogee 2 min reconstructor.... ppl rave about these products what do you think about it ?
That stuff seems like a ton of work and kind of messy. As well as being too strong. That is the protein treatment that scared me off from using protein early on in my healthy hair journey. I heard horror stories of people having their hair break off because of that treatment.
What would you recommend for a leave in conditioner for 2b-2c hair, I've been using Cantu shea butter and I've noticed a little hair damage.
The Jessicurl Aloeba is incredible! She recommends it frequently and I love it. The innersense one is very nice as well.

What causes a crazy amount of wet frizz??
Hydral fatigue AKA too much moisture
How do you know if your hair is coarse?
What are you using to clarify with these days??
Hoping you could answer a question? The giovanni leave in you recommended in another video you said it is protein free but says it has Glyceine Soja (Soybean) Seed Extract, looking this ingredient up it says is an amino acid from soybean. Although I've also read it's used in cosmetic for moisture. It's a bit confusing. So the question is, does this leave in have a small amount of protein in it?.Thanks for the great hint and tips in these videos.
I’m curious about the Giovani leave in containing protein also. I was told to avoid proteins and have been using this as my leave in???????
My hair is very protein sensitive. I used the Giovanni leave in not realising glyceine soja is a protein at first. Over the few month I used it, it gave me increased breakage.
Jessica Taylor if you don’t mind me asking, what leave in do you use. And any other protein free products. It’s hard to find protein free
Jessica Taylor thanks. I’m not familiar with those products. I’ll do some research.
Wich products do goed amount of protien and moist??

I hope you’re staying safe in Texas with hurricane Laura!

Aloe and flaxseed does not contain proteins. They are both very powerful humectants
Correct! But there are many many people who confuse Aloe and Flaxseed with proteins! hehe
Swavy Curly Courtney And one more thing - you were saying several times, that hydrolyzed proteins are bigger proteins with large molecules (big guns), but it's completely opposite - they are small molecules
Olga K aloe does contain many amino acids though
H0NEYMOURN it's not about what substance containe chemically, but how it works. Aloe is bringing moisture to the hair, so it’s humectant. The amount of amino acids it contains isn’t enough to restore hair cuticle so it can’t be considered as protein in hair care
Olga K yes it’s properties are still predominantly humectant as amino acids aren’t the same as proteins
Woah those products you mention are way too expensive for me 😲. I'm a drug store brand girl.
