Ok sure
Ian guillan, ted neely,
They are both great.. why rate it
Many people can reach high, but it doesn’t mean they can sing musically well
robert plant???
People think Freddie Mercury had the greatest rock and roll voice. I think Steve Perry beats everyone!
Freddie Mercury had a 4-octave vocal range which extended from bass low F (F2) to soprano high F (F6).
Steve Perry’s voice did/does not have a wide range and is described as a "high 'tenor altino’ vocal range, which spans from F2 to A5.
They both are/were amazing singers and I am glad to have been born at the time I was. However when one asks the question “who is better?”. Simply put, Freddie could do what Steve did, but Steve could not do what Freddie did.
@@tyfaknee Freddie might have had a greater range, but the quality and depth of Steve Perry’s voice is so much better..Freddie’s high range just sounds like screaming..
for me its freddie mercury is the best voice rock of all thats all
I agree. Freddie was a talent, for sure, but I never felt his live vocal performances matched his studio versions (showmanship aside). Steve Perry could not only match but arguably performed better live, and made it look easy the whole time.
Freddy had style over range. Steve had both !
I have seen Journey (with Steve Perry) live, 5 times. There is NEVER a faulty note. NEVER a faulty tone. What you hear on the albums is what you get LIVE. There is NO better vocal than Steve Perry. PERIOD. Thank you for all the amazing music Steve. I will never forget those shows!
That would be true if there wasn't Freddie Mercury around. Half of an octave higher in "Rock in rio blues" than top 1 here, uncomparable range of voice color, power, smoothness and control.
@@user-ep6iw9he7ehitting higher notes doesn’t mean you’re a better singer
Steven Tyler 😘
George Michael sang some queen songs during a tribute and I think did a better job than Freddie 🤷🏼♂️ you can find it on you tube
@@user-ep6iw9he7e Freddie was a great, powerful singer and an amazing frontman! He didn't posses the range Steve Perry had, and his vocals were not as solid live, consistently like Steve Perry's. Both singers are amazing, and Freddie had talents SP didn't and vice-versa, which is why I don't like comparing artists, especially great ones. But why would you comment about Freddie on a video about Steve Perry? But if you're in doubt, watch the live version of "Mother, Father", Freddie could never have hit notes that high! I also loved Steve Perry's soulfulness, Freddie didn't possess that either.
I seen him live in the 80s , he moved all over the stage never missed a single note , best live vocalist !!!!
Wow that’s incredible. 80s was a great decade.
Yes, I "SAW" him also.
I had front row once and I barely saw him because he was all over the stage as you say, incredible!
Hoping this reply is going to the real Mr. Perry. Thanks for sharing your talent. You touched so many. I too am going through a quiet pause in life. Just like Steve did. I get it. Will forever be listening .
same, I saw them on the Escape tour. He was flawless.
I was lucky to see Journey live back in '86. He actually sounds even better live because of the variations in his voice during their songs. That's why he's called " THE VOICE".
👍 agree 💯
I prefer Chris Cornell
..yes you were lucky. One of the best singers of the generation. Perhaps in many generations to come.

And easy on the eyes 😂❤
@dianemccamy2568 Right?! Gawd he's heavenly!❤
His voice is an absolute enigma it's one of those voices that can't be duplicated no matter how hard you try
Yeah, he's a fucking beast of voices! ⚘️💗
The closest to sing like Perry was Arnel Pineda, the guy chosen to replace him after he quit.
You know it's interesting how Neil Schon has been trying to find a replica of Steve but he hasn't been able to do it. There is only one Steve Perry.
Yepppp
Dimash...
Can you imagine ANY celebrity musician today to have this level of humility? It’s insane ow aware of life this guy was.
Yep, exactly. That is why he had to quit.
@@chasugc3740 he quit because he had to have hip replacement surgery didn't he? Maybe I am wrong..
@@elianad2083 That was only a small part of it. The excesses of fame as a musician was going to kill him and he was smart enough to recognize it. You have all these drug dealers hanging around supplying you cocaine, pills, and drugs, partying, and peer pressure to become part of the scene, it is overwhelming. Steve talked about it himself. He called it being toasty, and the party favors. He said that he had to stop, or it would have killed him, and he was smart enough to recognize it. This is what happened to so many musicians, like Jimi, Aerosmith, The Beatles, Rick James, Richard Pryor, Janis, The Rolling Stones, Jim Morrison, Bon Scott, Prince, Michael, Whitney, Stevie Nicks, Linda Ronstadt, and countless others. This "Sex, Drugs, and Rock n' Roll" scene has killed many of our great musicians. They have to continually go into rehab for drug addictions. I was in the studio myself as a singer and drug dealers would come in and spread cocaine all over the table. I had to stop working with those people. This is what I understood the OP to be making reference about. Steve was aware of his life, and he made decisions to take care of himself, and not let this fame, constant partying and party favors, kill him.
@@chasugc3740 your absolutely correct and Steve has said this many times about being “TOASTY!” Some have tried to get to the level this man could sing but I’m sorry to say there will “NEVER” be another Steve Perry. Arnel Pineda is very very good don’t get me wrong, but Steve was on an entire different level imo. Man do I miss him and those days in general!!
Yes, Steve was very smart, choosing to get off the circus ride leading to the destruction of life. So glad he chose to walk away and live the better life! ❤SP!
.
Freddie’s talent lay in his showmanship. Steve just had an unbelievable range and his abilities to go up and down the scale while still clearly pronouncing the lyrics.
Realmente, ele é uma lenda viva.
..Freddie like Steve natured PURE voices. Freddie had extreme power and range with resonance. Steve on other hand, had range with more resonance, which allowed him to hold notes, that eventually propagated outward. Once notes reach deep into resonance, they propagate into wider areas. Like dropping a pebble into water. The waves propagate outward. Its a powerful, divine feeling when this happens. Because there is no sensation around the head, just feeling of space.
@@skopas I find his octave range was what made him so unique. Much like Whitney Houston. The guy could carry through with no break . Amazing
Freddy had both. Obviously. Music is not a competition.
Freddie actually hits much higher notes in "Rock in rio blues" than Perry in top 1. Besides that Freddie outlasses him in every other aspect.
I've heard Steve sing live no fewer than 5 times. He hit those notes with authority, clarity and power.
I'm envious
No he don't

roy orbison is right there too
@@simonyoel not even close. Freddie always struggled live. He was so overrated
Bobby Hatfield could give Steve a run for his money....check out his live performance of unchained melody on the Andy Williams show.....not taking anything away from Steve.....one of the greatest.
Arnel Pinada
Saw Journey with Steve Perry live on three occasions. Every performance…flawless and his live version exceeded the studio version. Yes…he could make the hairs on your arms stand straight up.
Agreed100 ❤
I met Steve Perry at a pre-party for the Dallas Taylor Benefit Concert. He was surprisingly humble, and very grounded. He probably spoke with me and my wife for 10 minutes. There were lots of 'stars' all around, Louis Gossett Jr, Judd Nelson, CSN&Y, Drew Barrymore...but he politely indulged us. He'll always have, imho, the best R&R voice of anyone.
I've said it before, he's incredible. He's the best male singer ever. Loved him in the 80's, still love him now.
Have you heard his Christmas album? Incredible..
He sounded just as great live as he did in the studio. Amazing vocals.

And what makes him unbelievably talented is that he can also serenade us with beautiful mellow ballads such as Foolish Heart. Love SP
That is my favorite song by Steve! Love Foolish heart!!
@@sydneyashton1943, mine too
I’m obsessed with Foolish Heart! I actually really like the lyrics
I've forgotten about Foolish Heart. That is an under rated tune. But is that by him as a soloist or with Journey? I remember Oh Sherrie. He proved, with that megahit, that he could go Separate Ways from Journey 😃
@@jonstreng7850 The video is only him. No back up. Not sure if he was with Journey still at that time.
As an old Journey crew member, I saw his brilliance night after night. Not only high notes, but perfect pitch, while running all over the stages. But you have missed his best and hardest vocal line to duplicate...from the song "Homemade Love"...I would suggest you check THAT one out.
Good observation...I would also mention the end of "something to hide"...I believe that's his highest registered note...and am honorable underrated mention of the end of wheel in the sky where he goes crazy for awhile real subtle in the background over the outro guitar
*Correction of myself...wheel in the sky vocal gymnastics was over the guitar solo...not the end of the song in guitar outro
Separate ways, besides being my favorite song, showcases some amazing hard rock /metal maybe? Capabilities of Steve too.
@@scottmcquarrie7295 there are many songs that showcase his talent...but if you're talking standout demonstrations of range and technique, separate ways, while also one of my favorites would be further down the list then some of the other ones mentioned, especially from his earlier work
@@scottmcquarrie7295 okay, I misread your comment...separate ways definitely had some hard rock grit to it...the fact that Steve's voice had changed from earlier in his career was part of that...it was much more raspier then their early albums
Dude I fell in love with Steve Perry's vocal skill back in the late 70's. And for all of you guys who weren't fortunate enough to grow up in the 70s and 80s...just think, these vocals and many more singers like him all did this all WITHOUT autotune.
Maybe that's why many young people listen to the 80's. No autotune and robotic precision.
Right!! Life was so good, even my kids today enjoy 80’s
@@janasali821 Exactly. Girls looked on eyes and not on phone.
Without autotune, but with a contract with their blood selling their souls to the devil for their skills, fame and fortune.
How to tell someone knows little to nothing about music production in one comment.
I'm a singer and am considered very very good, honestly, but when I saw Journey live I wanted to quit. He didn't duck notes live, he went above and beyond and I left that concert believing that I had seen a god perform.
Not ducking the notes is part of the reason why Steve ended up sounding so great live, but at the same time his pristine vocals only lasted about 5 years before wearing down and sounding hoarse. He never complained about it publicly, only because Steve is a very private person, but his voice was suffering from his continuous live belting. Broadway singers know about this problem all too well. In retrospect, he probably should have throttled back at times to stave off the eventual hoarseness and allow him to keep his voice longer.

As Ive always said. Steve Perry is the greatest male singer to ever hold a microphone, when it comes to pitch, range and emotiveness, he is un matched. Not to mention he is a hell of a song writer and humble wonderful guy.
He isn't called "The Voice" for nothing!! I will always love this man!!
Steve Perry's style of singing (enunciation, soulfulness, besides his high note songs) set him apart from other male singers. So so so talented!
I do not think he was soulful in the least, but he was a good singer. Could he imitate soul singers? Yes. And he did often. Phillip bailey used much falsetto AND was the quintessential soul artist. Steve did not have a shread of phillips soul. Having soul is more than imitating our riffs and style. Even elvis was not soulful. Either you have it or you do not. With that being said steve was a good singer.
His voice is pleasant to listen too. There are lots of singers who can sing high notes, but they sound like nails on a chalkboard.

@@abulahab6528 Arnel can't sing. He screams. Nothing comparable or closely comparable to Steve Perry..
@@elianad2083 The band chose him because he sounded like Perry but obviously Perry is way better.
steve perry---THE ONE---THE ONLY---THERE IS NO OTHER and "sounds like!!!----" don't cut it and i don't care who you are. love this man and miss his voice!!
His isolated vocals for Stranger Things remix of Separate Ways is out of this world.
Mother Father in Houston 1981 live was his best ever...♥️🎯
Steve Perry is my favorite singer of all time. I will never get tired of his voice. Like if you agree!
Agreed without a doubt !!!
Couldn't agree more.
I agree 100%, there has never or there will never be a time that I will get tired of listening to that beautiful talented voice.
Girl…I’m with you there!
💯Prozent 🌹💖
I'd put Steve Perry, Freddie Mercury and Ronnie James Dio in my Mt. Rushmore of rock vocalist all time.
And Lee Seung Hwan. He is great.
Matt Bellamy
뭔 이런곳에 이승환이야,,,
좌파 찌그러져 있어라
There are very few singers that can hit those notes such as Michael Sweet, Rob Rock, and Perry’s replacement BUT Perry’s and range, control, power and last but not least is his resonance are unmatched. He truly mastered how to get the most out of his gift.
Steve Perry’s voice is the best of any singer. He’s # 1, in my opinion. ❤️
Nope DIMASH KUDAIBERGEN. Who is he you ask? One of his CDs went platinum in 30 minutes. Please look up his song STRANGER it shows what he can do. Dimash had a sold out concert in New York too. Liked a singer who competed on BRITAIN'S GOT TALENT a few months ago called TOM BALL. He managed to do 3 songs on it and lost to a comedian. Another I found really good is DANIEL EMMETT. He was on AMERICA HAS TALENT a few years back. His videos are easy to find on UA-cam.
This man will be a legend forever !

I would sell my soul to be able to sing like Mr. Perry. What a voice!!!! 💯😎👍👌👏👏👏👏
That has to be the most dumbest thing you ever said. Jesus said I am the way the truth and the life, Jesus can lead you to eternal Salvation. John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
@@MatrixIsbreaking "Most dumbest"??? 🤣 Seems you're not so smart yourself and guess what? I'm a Hindu from India...take care now, bye-bye then!
You can’t “sell your soul” because the Bible says that every soul belongs to God. You can’t sell something that you don’t possess.
@@gasmith7486 Hey, wow...thanks for the info.....🙄🙄🙄🙄🤣🤣
So many amazing songs left out where dang..just speechless.. goosebumps. "I'm Cryin'", "Mother Father" live. "Edge of the Blade". Not sure why these were left out. The vocal ranges just insane. Steve is the best ever. Not even Freddy Mercury could sing at this level..

Falsetto at the end of mother father live in Huston is the cherry on top of the best live vocal performance of all time.
Codycoyote thank you I was just going to say the same Mother Father- Houston and wheel in the sky (midnight special 78 ) and the list can go on and on
Yep! Could not believe how beautifully it was done.
It's not just about hitting the notes. That man has a singular gift that is beyond precious.
Steve Perry has a very distinctive voice and undoubtedly one of the greatest male rock vocalists, ever. He has such great control & range.
His high notes give me chills!

💕 Hands down, one of my most all time, favorite vocalist/singer and hero of my era!
Never will be another like him! In a class of his own! 👍
one and only, Mr Steve Perry 🙏🏽❤️
My man! It amazes me how he can actual sing words that high…not just hold a note. In “Faithfully” he sings pretty high…and you can understand him.
Incredible, right! He doesn't struggle with any vowel or anything; insanely great technique

@@CrazySinging Could you do a video about Steve Walsh from Kansas? Such an underrated singer
He's the Pavarotti of rock. As I open Carnegie Hall tomorrow with Vivaldi's Gloria, we could sure use him in the tenor section. Thank you SP for all the great music both in my youth and going forward. Bravo!
Steve Perry's voice is pure magic ✨🌟 Spent my teenage years with Journey!!! Still today, my mind is unchanged. So many memories when I close my eyes and just take in his voice!!🌟🌟❤️🌟💫✨
Such a phenomenal singer. Ever since I heard their concert in Tokyo 82' I've fallen in love with his voice
Steve Perry and Elvis are my favorite singers. I gravitated to Perry`s voice as a young teen. Love that voice.
His Incredible sustain on Winds of March is what sold me...
Steve Perry got a soulful voice , he is a living legend. he know exactly what he had to do.
his performance is beyond the word.
i think he is a great artist, and Jouney is a great team.
