Watching a craft's man at work is mesmerising - he is an excellent communicator and 'teacher' - his videos are excellent with a tinge of irony, humour and banter - works to keep his audience with him - great stuff and a great whistler!!
I had these boots as a teenager in the 70s, I used to get them heeled and soled, this is the first time I actually realised what goes on, I love watching a good man at he's job, well done young sir.
Das Video hat Charme, Humor und Unterhaltungswert. Die Schuhe haben eine solide Qualität der Arbeit genossen. Weiter so. Und auch mehr Damenschuhe zeigen. Je kaputter die Schuhe um so mehr macht es Freude dabei zu schauen wie die Schuhe wieder ihren alten Glanz bekommen. 🥇🍾
This is what I love about the UK, I,live near a small industrial estate in Glasgow and its full of people applying their trades in small units. Its fascinating just watching them.
I really, REALLYYYY don’t care about shoes that much; However, it’s very interesting watching the technical aspects of repairing shoes. I never knew how much work actually goes into maintaining them
I k.r. makes me look at shoes different now and rethink my next buy now with a tiny bit of knowledge how they are built . I have 1 pair of good military boots from Haix that are pretty down after 6 years (can't complain for150 €) now but they have a synthetic foam sole molded on. I don't know if you can resole this style, have to check some more videos from Dan the Cobbler with ❤ and sole 😉
Hello from Belgium, I am a former shoemaker and I see the love you give for this job your videos are great your work also continues on this path My best wishes for 2021 and above all a very good turnover :)
Can you do a video to tell people how you got into your profession/trade? I remember when we had a cobbler in our neighborhood when I was a young boy. He did miracles with our footwear and leather accessories. He showed me the value of saving instead of spending. He helped my mother save a lot of money on footwear for children, and her own footwear. I always thought of this line of work as stereotypically being an old man’s profession or trade, but thank you for showing the world that passion of a profession or trade is ageless. Many blessings and luck to your bright future sir. You’re truly an epitome of what work should be; a job you love that’s never really work. Can’t wait for that video about how you got started in this, and how you put together such a great shop and business.
Just came across your channel, and couldn’t stop watching the fascinating videos. I live in Tring, and embarrassingly have to admit to not having used your services (yet!). I remember when your shop used to be a pharmacy/chemist, and you’re now providing ‘cures’ for footwear. So good to see a true artisan at work! Just one small aside, that’s the first time I’ve ever seen anyone put the milk in their coffee BEFORE putting the water in!😂
Watching you work is always a pleasure, it's like you read my mind from the other video to this one, full breakdown and reassembly is so satisfying to watch.
I have watched a lot of your videos by this point, and I am surprised that you have such patience with explaining the same procedures and methods over and over. You are a born teacher.
Hi Dan, I really can't believe how fast you grow your subscribers list! I guess people know a good thing when they see one... You are a master craftsman! 👍👀👍
What I’m doing here..... recommendation!!!! I never bring my shoes for repair. May be there’s no shoe repair in my area. But it’s interesting, really good and looks brand new. Fun to watch, with that accent and old neighborhood store. It’s in UK
Vid ideas....types of shoes, shoe materials, shoe terminology, parts of a shoe, cobbler tools and terminology, what is a well constructed shoe and what to look for, how to take care of materials, products and how to use them (my son has nubuck Timbs with a stain), most of us are without a clue, your skill and knowledge are what will create longevity for your channel. I truly want you to succeed in your UA-cam endeavor. Gudonya!
Subscribers have doubled since the week ended! Bravo Dan, glad to see you rise to the occasion. Cheers on the nice cuppa. Your content is evolving and it's terrific!
I have a pair of barkers very like these ones and have been considering a dainite sole too so this was (and I never thought I’d say this) actually really interesting.
Nice work Dan. Here in USA, Barker shoes / boots are unknown. I have one pair, but I'm the exception that proves the rule. Cheers And leather soles wear out quickly on rainy days. Good conversion.
Aw if you don't admire this guy with the infectious personality there's something wrong with you! Dan, your attention to detail and your work ethic is top notch! I am a life(er) on this channel. I may have to beat up a pair of shoes and send them over to Dan (I'm north of San Francisco CA) just to have you repair them Dan. LOVE your channel. J
Brilliant idea. I have those in black. Very comfortable boots but the leather soles wear out every two months. I think I’ve paid more for replacements by now than I did for the new boots!
I love your store front and shop! Probably a weird statement, but we don’t have any old school shops left in my area. Actually, we don’t have any shoe shops at all🙁 Great videos and you do really nice work too! Keep the videos coming.
I've seen the day watching shoe repair vids would be a sad way to spend a Friday night... let's hear it for the lock down!...Off to see wheelwright now.
Dainite soles were made in Market Harborough, Leicestershire at the Harboro' Rubber Company's Dainite Mills, so called because they worked day and night = dai-nite. Production went to China, I think, a few years ago, as the old and new factories are both derelict.
I LOVE that it bugs people when you drop the nails on the floor. It’s like they don’t understand in a working shop you sweep the floor at the end of the day! LOL you’re a true craftsman sir. Love the channel
Great work ❤❤❤. Personally if I get a pair with leather soles I add them a rubber outsole straight away and make sure I never need to worry about it ever again.
I live in Grapevine Texas U.S.A wish I was in Tring it looks so beautiful. I can and do watch these videos all day and night it’s so relaxing. I’m assuming your channel has brought more business to George’s shop thanks for sharing your life with us.
I wish I had made a video like this. I did a pair last year :) Customer asked me to change leather sole and heel to a commando unit set. Fully stitched on version. :)
New subscriber here mate! I really enjoy a master craftsman and as a fellow leather worker, it’s just nice to see the entire industry! Salute from Corpus Christi TEXAS!
Dan, watching you apply sole with contact adhesive so carefully reminds me of two young vehicle trimmers who I saw on the Practical Classics stand at the classic car show at the NEC a couple of years ago. They were asked to trim a Jensen Interceptor live at the show and had to glue in a newly made beige leather headlining. They used contact adhesive. The windscreen wasn't in of course. Myself and my friend were talking to the owner of the car, the editor of Practical Classics magazine. I noticed that the two lads were looking a bit perplexed and scratching their heads. I walked across. Now an Interceptor roof like most cars is rectangular. The stitched flutes in the leather run from back to front. "You okay lads?" I asked. "No" they said "it seems to be coming up a bit short" ie not quite reaching the leading edge of the roof. I looked up inside the car. They had the flutes running left to right, they had fitted it 90 degrees out, with contact adhesive. Oh dear.
If i was 20 years younger I'd be asking to do an apprenticeship with this guy.
Such a happy chap and i get the impression he'd make a great teacher.
If I didnt live so far away I would have already asked 😂
I have no idea why this was recommended....But I never knew how therapeutic it was to watch shoes get repaired 🤣
@Digby Dooright me too!!! 😆😆 Makes me look at shoes in a whole new light 😂
Also helps folk realise how much work goes in for their money
Same here 😂
Ditto for me
Try watches ;)
I recently had these soles fitted to my Loake shoes. Dan’s work is second to none, the quality of his craftsmanship is outstanding.
I’d love to see some of your customers reactions to big changes like these boots
yeah that'd be nice
Seeing the reaction would be great 👍🏼
You're the sole reason I'm glued to this channel :)
Badumtish!

Hi welcome! Nice to have a local on the channel :)
I never knew boot and shoe repair was so therapeutic and pretty much and art, instant sub
Thanks and welcome to the channel!
I found this channel yesterday and stayed up until 9am watching video. This is dangerously entertaining. Great work!
Wow. His cutting tools are sharp...amazed they go through shoes like butter!
I never realized how well a sharp blade cuts until I went around someone who works with leather lol.
Like a lot of previous comments, I don't know how the UA-cam algorithm found me, but I love this channel! I truly like the integrity to the craft! ❤🙏❤
The options the cobbler can provide for the same old pair of shoes is really making me consider getting some Goodyear welded leather shoes.
Watching you work is always a pleasure, it's like you read my mind from the other video to this one, full breakdown and reassembly is so satisfying to watch.
Totally amazed of the attention to detail that he puts forth in every project!
A genuine craftsman. My Barkers Stable Boots, bought from Blackmans of Brick Lane, will be up to see you very shortly!
Its sooooo nice to view a video with such a HANDSOME, MUSCULAR guy......What eye candy,....indeed......Thank you so much.
I have watched a lot of your videos by this point, and I am surprised that you have such patience with explaining the same procedures and methods over and over. You are a born teacher.
You are a Master of your trade.🙏
Merry Christmas!
Thank you for your skill and keeping the tradition alive
Bless you for channelling the sole stitching. Drives me nuts when people don't. Excellent work man!
