- In this video, we give this pair of Nicks Handmade Boots a makeover. A customer mailed these in to us to be refurbished. His request was to switch out the old, worn Vibram rubber soles for leather. After adding the new Baker leather soles, Vibram rubber heels and some finishing touches, these Nicks work boots are ready to go.

Joanne Kelly You mean his? Or are you calling me a young man? I’m a femaleness , that is why I’m asking.
I recently found this channel by chance and it's just amazing to watch the craftsmanship and the process of how something battered just comes back to life. Sad I can't send my shoes off to Nashville since I live in Japan though... Also the southern accent brings back my memories when I lived in Nashville when I was young!
Thank you very much for watching our videos. We used to live in Okinawa and spent the millennium in Tokyo!
I would never send boots in that condtion to any repair shop until i cleaned them
Ian Fenwick You’d be surprised how often that happens.
Ian Fenwick hard agree. I wouldn’t even put them on my boot shelf like that. But a lot of construction guys take their boots off and just collapse LOL
@@TrentonHeath Wouldn't you actually prefer them to be sent in dirty than improperly cleaned? I guess a good brushing would be safe, but what would you suggest to clean them off with otherwise?
These are 500+ dollar boots. Even if I were to use them for heavy work, I would never let them get this dirty to begin with.
Have to agree, I was a bit shocked. It’s a bit like going to the dentist without brushing your teeth. But of course fantastic job as usual.
You men took those dirty old boots and made them glorious.
That's one lucky customer
Wow, someone sent in a pair of Nick's. Now that's a show of trust in a cobbler's skill. Good job guys. Excellent work.
Thank you very much!
I have such admiration for anyone who has these timeless skills to bring something old and worn out back to life.
Nick’s makes some of the best boots around. Very cool video and excellent rebuild
Nice to see a true craftsman at work. I so appreciate the old cast iron machines used in the craft. They just don't make stuff like that anymore. I think I might need to binge watch a few episodes.
Watching this is like therapy to me. So relaxing
Really love the work boot resoles, such amazing craftsmanship.
Thank you very much!
That was a great job done, guys!! I rue the day I got to know a retired Alaskan State Tropper at the morning breakfast hole where i live. He mentioned Nicks and Whites boots to me and now after 3 mths of binge watching boot videos of all kinds, I've ordered 6 pairs from various makers the last 2 mths! Really bad for my wallet! LOL!
When I watch skilled artisans, craftsman and people who are passionate about their work or hobbies. . ....... well, it brings a sense of joy, of wow and I’m truly grateful for the time and effort you all have made to document your work. I hope this inspires young people to enter your trade/artisan industry. I also hope it encourages people to look for and purchase high quality shoes, maintain them properly and have them resoled snd or repaired by a quality cobbler.
This is a factual statement. If you purchase quality leather shoes, maintain them properly, it is possible for them to last a lifetime depending on the kind of usage.
I’ve had work boots last 7-10 years, they’ve been resoled 3-5 times. The issue with my work boots is I often wear through the leather on the toe.
Cowboy boots used for dress or casual wear definitely will last a lifetime with proper care.
Brilliant outcome..you've settled in well...mustache has made a home😉 lovely to watch...more vids pls...quality of work...amazing...stay blessed🙏🇬🇧👍
Thank you so very much!
I just keep watching this videos. Great work, great craftsman, artisans!!
Awesome job as usual guys! I have been in the manufacturing/heavy labor game for 42 years, and this is my last year of it. In all that time I only bought boots that were under 200 dollars. long story short, I got a pair whites smokejumpers 5 years ago, and it changed my life for the better. My posture is back on track, as well as my overall attitude. keep up the stellar craftmanship guys!
Nicks Boots are some of the best made boots. And these are more of their tamed down boots. Thanks!
New subscriber! The people at Nicks would be very pleased with the modifications and effort put into these. Got my first pair of Nicks 2 years ago and had no idea how much better a custom-built boot actually was.
I wish yall can bring ankle work boots back to life.
Turned out badass!!
Beautiful job of restoration and cleaning and polishing boots. I would never give such a filthy pair of shoes to a cobbler for resoling. You guys are wonderful.
Thank you very much! It’s a challenge. I suppose the worst boots and shoes look, the better the project turns out. 😎
Completely off topic, but your Barber does a phenomenal job.
With today's throw away culture, it's always a pleasure to watch craftsman applying their trade.
Just bought a used pair of Nicks. Got used because they are pricey new. Absolutely fantastic quality. Love my Thursdays & Wolverines, but these are another level entirely. They arrived very dirty & scuffed, similar to those in this video. Cleaned up to look almost new (using products I bought from Trenton & Heath BTW). Feel like the most comfortable slippers imaginable. We make quality stuff here in the USA folks!! Buy Made In America and keep them for life!! And when they need some TLC, send them to Trenton & Heath in Nashville.
Great work guys! Excellent craftsmanship, you never disappoint!
That mustache is looking strong brother. You looked like you drove a windowless van full of candy in the last video, but it has seriously come into its own. Great video guys!!!
Joe
😂. Thank you very much!
You're not a shoemaker, you're a shoe genius. Thanks for share.
Thank you so very much!
Awesome restoration!!
Proud to be an American!!!
I have enjoyed these boots restoring vids ! Awesome content fellas !
Thank you very much for watching!
I've been hoping you'd get a pair of Nick's Boots in at some point. Most just send them back to Nicks when they need a resole, but they don't offer leather like this. I knew it was the first pair you'd seen when you expected to find a welt. Nick's uses stitch down construction because they feel it gives better resistance to water getting in. These turned out great. If you thought these had a lot of nails, just wait until a pair of their work boots comes in.
those boots came out very nice.
Thank you
Oooo, the buffing wheel on the edge really makes the look pop. I love the brass tacks too.
Love this channel somehow it ended up in my recommended and now I can’t stop watching it. IDK it’s something just honest about them and their work, great job fellas 👍
You’re too kind. Thank you very much!
Guys, the craftsmanship and attention to detail that you devote to your work is absolutely next-level.... I know where I'll be sending my vintage Ferragamos!! Best wishes from Ireland
I'll be buying a set of Nick's soon, glad this resole came in :)
I'm still waiting for mine after i botched my fitting process! >_
Me too. Awaiting the try on pair.
They’re good boots! Very well made.
@@jeffreygoss8109 how long has it been, and which ones did you order?
@@TrentonHeath I've also got my wife very interested in your sandals, so I'll be making an order soon
That mustache is the bomb!! Bring back the 1890's bro!!
😂
Holy Crow! So many layers on that boot. Beautiful job.
Cindy C Thank you so much!
Thank you very much!
It's ASMR and boot repair all in one.
As one of your female fans, I admire the artistry that goes into making over a pair of boots. You guys are true artists and I really enjoy your videos. Maybe you could guide us females into the best shoe brands to invest in!❤️
They're working on it 😉
Victoria Grant whites has a lace up lady packer it is beyond awesome
Coincidentally, Nicks has a casual ladies boot called the Becca.
"Nothing bad about that" : - D. Actually it's the absolute top shelf way to build a heavy work boot. Hand stitch down construction is a lot of why a bespoke pair of boots like Nick's makes cost around 600 bucks to have built. Hand stitch down sole construction lasts. There is a reason every logger and wild-land firefighter in the country wears boots made by White's, Nick's, or Wesco heavy boots to work in.
Whenever I listen to Trent and Heath with their neat accents I always have an irresistible urge to watch their videos while sipping a glass of smooth Kentucky bourbon two fingers neat. :) BTW the boots looked awesome.
Thank you very much! You’re too kind. Enjoy that bourbon! 🥃👍
Yay! A boot resole. My fav!
👍
This is so relaxing to watch. :)
Love the work! ... ur channel should easily have a million subscribers....
I wasn't sure I'd care for the leather soles on the Nick's but coupled with those vibram rubber soles with the bit of tread the boots turned out amazing! Very unique and sharp looking.
Thank you very much!
At the end of the video. If the customer does not care for the rubber heel, it is simple to change.
The maker of these boots did one hell of a job. They are a handsome boot to look at. They still are now that you have finished. You have made them more stylish, dressier, which is what your customer was looking for. So well done.
It was honorable of you to mention how well they were made and the differences (strength, tradition in construction) from what you see manufactured today.
It’s been a long time since I have seen a pair of Nicks. Awesome job on the resoles gentlemen. Love the double red stitching. Heath the mustache is looking great. Have a great weekend gents and be safe. Thanks for the video
Thank you very much! Have a great weekend.
Could listen to those voices forever , those boots look fabulous now xx
I'm not sure Nick's would have done any better at that rebuild. Great work guys..
A true thing of beauty afterwards!
Wow! what a difference you made. They look wonderful, I'm sure your client will be pleased.
Nick's are made in Spokane, not far from where I live. I told recommend White's Boots though. Also made in Spokane. Great work boots!
You guys are artists .
Watching your videos make me remember when I would take my shoes to get resole, I found it rare when I came to the USA 🇺🇸 from El Salvador 🇸🇻 that people just would thro away the shoes and not take to be fixed.
Hopefully, shoe repair is coming back.
2$ Walmart shoe is not worth the time and money to resole.
@@GoatzombieBubba #1 I have never purchased shoes at Walmart. #2 I'm talking about how I could have taken my $150 Portuguese leather boosts to get resole.
Beautiful job, you improved a pair of hand made boots.
Thank you very much!
Shoes and watches restoration videos are my stress relievers, especially when watching passionate and talented craftsmen. Big like guys!
I brush my teeth before I go to the dentist... I would definitely clean my boots before I send them to a cobbler...
I'm hoping my Nicks boots will be here this month, can't wait! These things are built like tanks and I have a real hard time now spending money on any other brand unless I want something really dressy or different materials (suede, shell etc). Beautiful job retaining the shank and the fiddle waist on these boots. I would be very hesitant to send them to any other cobbler and change the integrity of the design (and arch support).
Thank you very much! Yes, they are built like a tank!
Always a pleasure watching you guys work. You make it look so simple. LoL.
Thank you very much for watching!
You guys look sharp, especially for some covid-era, skilled blue collar work. Inspired me to get my act together a bit.
Thanks, brother
Best channel to relax and watch drinking a cup of coffee.
It’s always been a struggle to find a cobbler that understands fire ratted work boots. You guys are awesome.
Thank you very much!
Great work.
Impressive outcome.
Have to say I really like the nicks boots ive had my wildland fire boots for 4 years now and I dont know I would buy another brand boot again
As a Brit it’s lovely to hear someone using Baker’s leather instead of JR 👍🏻
Better than new incredible workmanship yet again.
Thank you very much!
Trent that mustache 👨🏻🦱 is awesome!!
I know they are work boots, but that doesn’t mean you don’t have to clean them up. By keeping them clean, they will not only look presentable, but they will last longer.
Jacob Chavez VERY true! 👍
Absolutely . pride in work , pride in appearance .
People who do hard physical labor in their boots are going to have a lot less time to keep them pristine. We should all keep everything in as good a condition as possible. But that includes the house, the yard, vehicles (possible some recreational like a boat or ATV), and don’t forget there’s still every day stuff like cooking, laundry, and paying the bills. It’s not surprising cleaning your work boots may not get done as often as it should.
@@ytreece I spent 10 years in the marines , and not a day went by that my boots and dress shoes weren't cleaned and polished . that includes my field boots as well . in between keeping my rifle , shelter half , pack , uniforms and all the rest of my equipment and rest of my uniforms squared away plus guard duty combat training operations physical training ( 3 mile run in combat boots ) . you have to make time otherwise you get nothing done .
Thanks for the great video guys, Pete’s moustache is growing nicely for the Clooney look 😉🙂👍
Thank you very much!
This is peak Trenton and Heath! Love the pure sounds of shop with interludes of explanation-and no looping background music to get stuck in my head. You display the "before" and "after" shots of the boot for the perfect amount of time and capture all the right angles. Another bonus for me is hearing from both of you equally, which I know is not always possible with every shoe. Balance is the name of the game for this video. From a composition perspective, this is one of your best that I've seen. Keep up the beautiful work, gents!
Hey guys. Great job on the boots. You struck a nice balance of rugged and stylish. On another note: last week, I gave a friend of mine a pair of your sandals. He LOVED them! Have a nice weekend.
Thank you very much! So glad your friend loved his sandals! Have a great weekend.
Smashing job, lads
David Little Thank you sir!
Thank you very much!
very similar vibes from your earlier video where you guys resoled a pair of Viberg boots with that interesting steel plate under its outsole. As always, very educational. Many thanks. :)
Thank you very much!
That's one awesome Duster!!!!
Wow impressive work guys !
Thank you very much!
You guys smoked those boots...
They looked sooo good. Amazing job !!!
God bless you both... in JESUS precious name...
One of my go to channels when im getting ready to go to bed and relax 👌
Amazing outcome once again. Love to watch your videos any day of the week but Saturday makes it even more special. Be safe gentlemen.
Nick's is a good brand of boots. Glad to see they were sent in before they'd been worn through the rubber and into the leather. Nice re-sole work fellers. And... (men) if nothing else, pressure wash the big chunks off before sending them in. LOL
It's amazing what a little conditioning will do for the uppers.
They 'clean up' well, don't they? What a handsome pair. I mean the boots, of course...
Just like new! 😊
@@TrentonHeath 👍🏻
Heath, that's an award winning 'stache you're sporting! 😁
G'day beautiful job and I find it interesting to watch you using these lovely old machinery, it would be nice if you could show us around your workshop and the age and different machines and what they are used for. Thank you for another great video-regards John
Such a big difference. Good work as usual guys
very nice pair of boots!

This is fascinating work… Very skilled… Well done… Great results…
I really enjoy watching y’all work at your craft. Kind of nice to watch your skills at something normal since we all need shoes even in these crazy times we’re living in today. As soon as I get a pair of quality shoes look forward to sending them in to your shop. Appreciate y’all 👍
Not only have you converted me to better shoes and saphir cream, I am now in the habit of caring for my shoes. Recently have received compliments on my shoes.
I’ve never worked on boots or anything of that nature. But i think now I’d like to get into it.
Fantastic work gentleman
You guys remind me of hot rod builders with all the old school presses and rollers , hammers like working on sheetmetal ! Awesome video and mustache 👌 start handlebar training that crumb catcher Wyatt Earp 😉
Wow they really upgraded their shop
Nick’s boots. Yes!!!!! I was waiting for this
Columbia PFG shirt for the win.👍👍
Nick’s boots are built like tanks. The soles are triple stitched, using two midsole layers.
The first midsole is Blake stitched to the insole. The next midsole uses two rows “stitch down” construction to hold both midsoles and outsole in place.
It almost as if they use the first midsole as a GYW. It is stitched to the upper.
The outsole can actually be replaced by removing the outsole and the outer midsole.
I think its even better boot then before
Excellent video as always! Night and day difference on the boots!
