    ❗️❗️❗️ Guys, this helped me OVERNIGHT!
    I literally did ONLY ONE exercise for like 30 min with a total concentration on my breath. The day after, my breath automatically switched to the place where it belongs!
    Singing is my passion and I'm a self-taught. I have to admit, this exercise isn't new to me. In fact, I was told to do this exercise in my first vocal class back in 2014 (I stopped attending after a year cuz I didn't have time). But I say thanks to Ronja for putting it out here and help everyone and for reminding me that it actually WORKS! Can't wait to put it in action and make better stuff cuz now, everything I record feels unconfident... Guys, take your time and practice! Focus on what you're doing! That beautiful sound you wanna achieve is the result of these exercises! THANKS!!! 🙏😌

    I've watched so many videos on breathing with the diaphragm and for whatever reason left confused each time. My vocal coach told me the trick of trying to hold "open" that space for your diaphragm but I think I was using my abs more than thinking about pushing my ribs out to the side to hold in place. Hence I only half got the concept. This video is beginning to bring it all together for me. Since I am a visual learner, and it helps to know more about the science of our muscles, I had to watch an animated video of the diaphragm first. Then I watched a video titled "How To Stretch Your Diaphragm | Diaphragmatic Excursion" for a more medical care perspective (apparently stretching the diaphragm has benefits for alleviating lower back pain!). Right after watching that, coming back and watching this video made perfect sense. Yay! I think this is removing my conceptual blockage for "how" to perform this technique finally.
    Now I just have to get used to this at first seemingly non-typical technique of stretching a muscle I can barely feel (if at all) on demand and holding it in place. Non-typical only because we use our diaphragm so often without trying or thinking about it, and you have to overcome/reverse that for this technique to work. You have to "feel" (conceptualize, if needed) and command your diaphragm to do what you want.
    Anyway, great video! Thanks for sharing!

    My biggest struggle is losing my breath as I ascend higher, especially in head voice/falsetto. I really hope I can conquer this and be able to sustain higher head notes longer!

    This is brilliant. I wish I found these 10 years ago. BTW, I didn't have a lot of problem with the Inhalation Technique video, but the Exhalation kinda gave me nausea.
    Might be cuz I have gastritis problems, and have been finding it hard to breathe and sing my favourite tunes lately. Would you agree?
    Nonetheless, I'm gonna slow myself down and come back a day or two later, for new lessons.
    Keep up the brilliant work.

    I came to learn how to keep my breath in order to finish lyrics! There's this song called " Love Power " from the movie " Disenchanted " and there's this beautiful part where she's singing but it's almost like she's doing it in one breath. I know I can hit the notes, it's just keeping the breathing that gets me

    Hi Ronja, I stumbled on your videos today and I've been geeking out with them for a couple of hours! I just tried the exercises in the inhalation video (inhaling with diaphragm against a book) and came back to the exercises for exhalation in this one, and it feels difficult to push forward with the diaphragm while at the same time pushing sideways/outward into the ribs. Will they both happen together with practice? Is it supposed to feel or look like opening an umbrella, if we compare our torso to an umbrella? Thank you and I love your videos!

    You know, I took singing lessons for almost 5 years (on and off, on and off) and I think nowadays the two things that I struggle the most with are: breathing, and tension-be it throat, chest, shoulders, tongue, jaw, da whole package, sista.
    So I was wondering: I take a breath (nose or mouth, super deep or not so much) and even though I feel the ribcage and diaphragm working and all, I still feel that some of it stays in my chest, so there's this tightness blocking the voice from coming out freely and loose, if you will. Thoughts?

    • @TanieStein
      @TanieStein 4 роки тому +10

      Maria, I think you should let yourself go and try NOT TO SING, but more likely to breath or to shout (like you're calling someone). Remember that releasing feeling and try to use it while singing a song. I think a lot of vocal problems appear when students are trying to sing so hard, like they're standing in front of a examination commitee.

    I've been doing these inhale, exhale exercises for ever. So many vocal coaches have demonstrations. Yet, NO ONE shows how it actually works when singing. I can inhale for as long as anyone. I can hold by breath for as long as anyone and I can exhale for as long as anyone. But when I actually sing a song I run out of breath. Obvoiusly, something is not working.
