I've had tons of voice classes and my vocal coach is a linklater specialist and has given us tons of exercises to do and i can always do the exercise but when it comes to actually speaking i am CONSTANTLY getting the same voice note of 'not supported' and 'can't maintain being on voice'. My director was exasperated with me today because I kept going off voice and i realised on my way home that I have no idea when i'm on voice in order to replicate it and sustain it - all my voice exercises are short sounds and single words teamed with an action like a squat and not connected to text. - and I can't exactly march on a stage and squat my way through 'to be or not to be' - i know it sounds nuts but your explanation made something click in my head and i FINALLY understand what I should have understood in my first week of drama school. Thank you!!!
Thanks for including a diagram, showing where the diaphragm muscle is. Everyone tells me to breathe from my diaphragm, but I’ve never had a clear idea of where it is. now I understand.
I'm definitely gonna be coming to you to learn more about this because I've been damaging my throat lately! The last video I watched was of some guy badly teaching how to talk from the Diaphragm so that you can attract women...I don't care about attracting women, I wanna be able to talk for longer without getting out of breath or damaging my vocal chords! Also you're very easy to listen to, I love your accent so much! You've just got yourself another subscriber! 😁
Aww that’s so very kind of you! I think I know which video you are referring to, perhaps the exact one that propelled me to make this very video!😄 I’m glad you know what needs fixing and are working towards it tenaciously. It makes a world of a difference to exercise your tummy muscles instead of constantly straining your throat. Hopefully, the duration will keep increasing and you can speak for hours effortlessly! 🙌🏻
To hear that from a Dr. does mean a lot! :) Thank you for taking time out to share your views, not everyone does so it’s much appreciated! I tried to fill the void and glad it solves the purpose! 🙌🏻
Omg I’ve been looking for this for years!! Many many videos watched in the last 2-3 years and now I finally got it! Thank you! I’ll start practicing asap!!
I’m so glad Roberta that this was simple enough for you to grasp! This is a tricky topic so practice is surely the key. It’s quite fun to play with the depth of your voice & the possible variations :)
This video is one of a gem! I found something that I've been looking for so long, despite watching videos that didn't make much sense... I'm subscribed!! Thanks for this video 🙏👍
Thank you for this video. Explanations are on point! I am a hobbyist writer and my dream is to record my novels as audiobooks to freely share with the world. Unfortunately, dyspnea (asthm/anxiety) kicked in last year and I always speak like 9:23, making engaging with anyone difficult. I don't want to give up on my dream so I'll keep practicing until reaching that "engaged/relaxed" state you talk about, and don't feel the urge to breathe at every 3 words anymore. I also regularly sing songs which engage the diaphragm.
That’s a tough place to be and sorry that you have had to experience the bouts of anxiety to a level that brings hindrance. However, your determination in the face of obstacles is commendable and put a smile on my face. I already know that your dream will come true some day soon, keep at it! 🙌 Practice truly is the key and if you can do longer sentences along with the singing sessions then you’ll get there much faster! Good luck with it all! Rooting for you! ✌🏻
Supreet you are absolutely beautiful and such a kind and calm manner which always makes learning easy, this is the video I've been looking for.Thank you❤
You're wonderful supreet! I mean just wow. You have made the learning so easy. I humbly request you to continue posting videos it would be of great help. Lots of love❤❤❤

Amazing, landed here from Instagram after I asked you about voice training, first and foremost thank you very much for the prompt reply and directing me to this wonderful channel of yours, and just one video old and I loved it totally, amazing video and detailed instruction on voice culture, shall watch more. Thanks once again
Thanks for such appreciation! I do try and simplify the basics, correct pronunciation & revisit etiquette through this channel…I’m glad you found it worth your while! Happy browsing! 🙌🏻
this video was amazing! I had an assignment that I had to record an audio for and even while trying plenty of methods I always tensed up, I feel way more confident now! Thank you so much Xx
Holy crap! I have been watching videos on diaphragmatic breathing and diaphragm speaking all week, and you are the first one to make it make sense! Thank you! PS: Beautiful accent!
Aww that’s super sweet! Thank you for taking the time out to convey that! Not many people give compliments generously 😅 I do hope this helps you immensely in reducing the stammer. My own sister used to stammer till her teens when breathing exercises really helped and now when she does, it’s almost missable! Best wishes ♥️

For last one month i have been trying to improve my tonality and voice . I am feeling that your video would be beneficial for me. Thanks for providing such a nice content. keep it up❤
Excellent video on how to activate and engage your diaphragm. I’ve seen a few today and this is by far the most interesting teaching/learning experience. Thank you for sharing.
Such a sweet compliment this brings! 🤗 I’m happy that people can relate to my content and use that in everyday life. I truly hope that this channel helps you to achieve the personality you desire. Best wishes :)
I’m glad you recognise the importance! 🙌 I’ve recently authored a book that covers vocal impact in great detail and it’s available on Amazon word wide as well as kindle format. Hey, I have a question, and I couldn't find the answer clearly anywhere. This video was the best I can understand, but I still can't differentiate if I'm speaking from my diaphragm or my throat.
You are most welcome! Reading aloud is vocal gym for the mouth. What starts with effort, indeed ends up natural because clarity becomes a habit. You open your mouth and talk not just for an exercise, but it becomes everyday conversational style.
I am using my diaphragm when I speak in English, but my projection towards my mouth is most likely making my voice a little higher. Could you tell me what I should do to make my voice lower when I speak and use the diaphragm? Could you give me a video link if you have those types of videos?
Good to know that you are already using your diaphragm in order to make an impact. Well done! Because this isn’t as natural a process as breathing yet and you are kind of forcing your mind and body to do that, the voice tends to sometimes hold a higher ‘unnatural’ pitch but trust me when I say that with practice you will start to sound perfectly pitched. Keep recording yourselves and observe your body language when you do use the diaphragm, are your shoulders going high? Chest puffing out evidently? Tummy sucked in visibly before each utterance? All of these are signs that you still have a long way to go and practice is what’s needed. When one uses their diaphragm correctly, you should NOT be able to witness any physical ‘struggle’ or efforts…it should look normal and feel natural :)
@@SUPAbilitybySupreetBedi I regularly record my voice when I imitate an American native afterwards I compare my voice to the original when I listen that time exact match to the original and other thing when I speak I feel like my diaphragm work properly because something tense into my diaphragm
Hello ma'am. I am 19y old, and still my voice seems like 13-14yrs kid. When we speak in real-time, my sounds like good but when I listen my voice in recorded form. I don't like the voice and I always thought that my voice is good but due to bad quality of microphone sound comes bad. #Basically my sounds like slow tone with low pitch. How to improve my voice, as I have to give some speech in mic infront of a 100-200 people and that also for 10-15 min.
Hi Ashish, acknowledging the problem is a fabulous start. The recorded voice you hear is in fact quite true to the voice that everyone else hears when you speak. So, if you aren’t a fan of that then you must strive to make it better for vocal impact! Firstly, try finding your diaphragm and attempting the activity mentioned in the video. Then ensure you use the right tone to match your words. Practice your speech in front of the mirror with expressions and to avoid monotonous delivery, highlight a few words to put emphasis. Keep the volume up and lower the pitch when ending a sentence. Smile, have eye contact and don’t speak too fast. I hope these pointers help you to be a better speaker at your event! Best wishes! 🙌
Hi Paras, this is a peculiar issue that isn’t necessarily related to communication skills but perhaps more the speech effort. You may simply be hurt unknowingly in that area, have inflammation or infection, cold sores or putting unnecessary pressure when talking. Worth seeing a doctor to rule out the infection part and then a speech therapist who can address the issue. Don’t take it lightly though, best to act upon it sooner than later. Good luck with it. Let me know what guidance or diagnosis you receive. Take care!
Pehle to apko boht thank you. But mujhe eik problem hai. Meri voice akele me achi rehti he. Lekin croud or class me nahi nikalti.or mujhe har waqt gale me balgam rehta he. throat se jata he nahi jis se voice khrab ho jati hai. ap mujhe koi solution bata sakti hai. Classroom me boht embarass feel hota hai😢 And ap boht achi hai or easy way me samjhati hai. Thank you
Sorry to hear ki aapko apni speech ko lekar itni embarrassment se guzarna padta hai. But sacchai yeh hai ki yeh pressure aap apne pe khud le rahe hain, judgement ke darr se. Saliva produce hona acchi baat hai, it’s a normal function of our vocal cords to keep them hydrated but agar aap akele mein sahi hote hain aur crowd ke aage excess mucus ya balgum hota hai toh kahin na kahin yeh anxiety ka sign hai, speech defect nahi. Sabse pehle toh aap apna water intake increase karein to keep your vocal area fully hydrated…isse mucus thin hoga aur irritate nahi karega. Breathing pe dhyaan dein jaise video main bataya to breathe from your belly not your chest or shoulders. Salt water gargles bhi help karenge aur steam bhi. Yeh sab throat ko moist rakhne ke liye taaki balgum kam produce ho. Apne paas cough drops rakhein before major speaking to lubricate the vocal cords. But don’t worry too much about log kya kahenge, aap apna confidence lose kar dete hain aur woh speech pe dikhta hai. Pls if you can, get my book from Amazon.in called Be Ready for the World. It will assist in getting over your issues…aapki bahut help hogi I’m sure! Good luck! :)
Thank you for the vlog. I still have a bit of trouble with this, so just to clarify, - so you talk only on the exhale? And does one have to take a deep breath before you say anything?
Hey Eddy, glad you stopped by! Because this is the initial phase of comprehension, one tends to get too conscious of the inhale exhale process, but once mastered, you will find your own convenience and just like you don’t think much about your breathing while talking naturally, you won’t be consciously thinking of diaphragm breathing either, it will come more naturally with practice. But for now, it’s best talk over your exhale. And I recommend taking that subtle breath (inhale) before you start a new sentence. Obviously this is assuming that your sentences are short to begin with, else commas and pauses within a sentence are a great place to take those quick inhales too. Try and read a children’s story book this way to practice as they don’t tend to have long sentence structure. Let me know how you get along! 🙌
Lovely, love your videos, you make it so easy, interesting and informative at the same time. I am from Mumbai and if you do conduct voice culture classes, kindly let me know. Nevertheless as of now I am learning through your videos. Much thanks 😊- Amit R
Hi Amit! Glad you found the videos worth your while! I’m currently in England and offer communication training via Zoom but I do visit Mumbai often. :)
Hi there! Valid question indeed! However, it’s not down to us to be able to keep the diaphragm contracted…it’s quite a mechanical process that aids the inhalation and exhalation. Therefore, the dome muscle will move up and down regardless of your ‘attempt’ to keep it contracted. Because what you are contracting in fact is the abdominal wall, which I prefer to do too while talking on stage. I feel it gives me more power & stability when keeping the core sucked in. So technically the answer to your question is no; but superficially it is a yes :) Hope this isn’t too confusing?
Do you mean till you get perfect? Depends on your level of English and communication confidence. Usually in 3-6 months one sees a huge difference in speech and delivery. I take personal online sessions over Zoom too, incase you’d be keen to bring some ‘guided’ self improvement :) Best wishes!
Hi! Thanks for watching! It’s not the speech that comes from the diaphragm as that’s just a primary muscle which aids our breathing. It’s only inflating and deflating pushing air upwards so when we talk over our exhale phase; the vibrations are created in our vocal folds and that’s what helps in our voice projection. When I ask to put your hand on the belly or the diaphragm, that’s just to feel the expansion, not the direction or source of voice ie front/back/side like you mentioned. I hope this helps?
Hi, interesting question! Poor posture can alter our breathing style/mechanism which makes it harder to talk over the breath like mentioned in the video. I’d suggest concentrating on posture correction - consciously so - for an impactful diaphragm voice to follow. In fact, you can attempt saying the phrases mentioned in the video with an intentional slouch. You will find the power is lost and it’s way more ‘efforted’! I have a video on correct posture too so have a quick look at that! Hope this helps :)
Hlo mam I am an deffence aspirant I speak from my throat due to that some of mine words got un understable due to lack of voice modulation Can you help me with it& mam u explained how to speak from one breath but mam how can we breath and talk from diaphragm continuously without not letting others that we are breathing Mam do you have any telegram or whatsApp Or any other way so that i can send u mine audio recording I am eager to improve my voice to be effective in mine ssb(interview of cds exam) can u help me mam!
Hi there! Practice will get you there! If you can try and talk in the manner described in the video and ace it; then keep increasing the number of words per attempt. Yes of course you could send me your voicenote. Pls msg me on Instagram @supreetbedi13 or email me on supreet@supreetbedi.com to share a voicenote and I will give you my inputs further. Good luck with your exams ahead! Best wishes!
Hi, Thanks for trying but voice projection takes a lot of practice. I tried to simplify it through this video but the rest is a game of practice and patience! From small words to couple of sentences, gradually increase your capacity of using the diaphragm voice. :)
😂😂😂 Never heard of that one before! 🤪 The good thing is you don’t really have to ‘reach’ it, just need to ‘feel’ it! Kick it up towards your belly ;) and perhaps when it’s at its designated place, use it for voice projection. ;)
Aww sorry to hear, it’s an indication that you haven’t yet found comfort in using the diaphragm voice. Not to fret, it’s game of practice so pls don’t give up. More importantly, do not get impatient with the exercise. Start with mono syllables, then move on to phrases, short sentences, complex sentences and eventually a paragraph! You are sure to get there if you have succeeded in locating your diaphragm voice which is explained in the first part of the video. Good luck! 🙌
Please do not take this video down ever! Very well done, I just showed it to the speech class I'm teaching.
Aww Thank you Vladimir! I hadn’t a clue it would be appreciated by so many across the globe!
Amazing clip
Thanks much! ☺️
I'm experiencing pain at the tip of my tongue while speaking. Could you please suggest some exercises to help correct this issue?
Classroom me boht embarass feel hota hai😢
And ap boht achi hai or easy way me samjhati hai. Thank you
Sorry to hear ki aapko apni speech ko lekar itni embarrassment se guzarna padta hai. But sacchai yeh hai ki yeh pressure aap apne pe khud le rahe hain, judgement ke darr se. Saliva produce hona acchi baat hai, it’s a normal function of our vocal cords to keep them hydrated but agar aap akele mein sahi hote hain aur crowd ke aage excess mucus ya balgum hota hai toh kahin na kahin yeh anxiety ka sign hai, speech defect nahi. Sabse pehle toh aap apna water intake increase karein to keep your vocal area fully hydrated…isse mucus thin hoga aur irritate nahi karega. Breathing pe dhyaan dein jaise video main bataya to breathe from your belly not your chest or shoulders. Salt water gargles bhi help karenge aur steam bhi. Yeh sab throat ko moist rakhne ke liye taaki balgum kam produce ho. Apne paas cough drops rakhein before major speaking to lubricate the vocal cords. But don’t worry too much about log kya kahenge, aap apna confidence lose kar dete hain aur woh speech pe dikhta hai. Pls if you can, get my book from Amazon.in called Be Ready for the World. It will assist in getting over your issues…aapki bahut help hogi I’m sure! Good luck! :)

Thank you for the vlog. I still have a bit of trouble with this, so just to clarify,
- so you talk only on the exhale?
Wonderfull wonderful madam please CC title on in Urdu thanks ❤
Hi! I’ve not done that ever before but will keep it in mind for next time. Thanks for the feedback. :)
should i keep thr diaphragm contracted during the whole time when im saying the long sentence ?
Will this help my nasal sound voice? I just wish to speak clearly
I breathe into my diaphragm and still feel like I'm talking from my throat. What's the reason?
thanks
For how long will I do the trainings
Do you mean till you get perfect? Depends on your level of English and communication confidence. Usually in 3-6 months one sees a huge difference in speech and delivery. I take personal online sessions over Zoom too, incase you’d be keen to bring some ‘guided’ self improvement :) Best wishes!
Long time back u we’re on tv
Yessss! Zoom, issko dekho! 🙌😄
Nice
U r just awesome
How kind! 🤗 Thank you! :)
Where on our diaphragm do we speak from? The front, either side, back?
Heyy comeback!! Why u stopped uploading videos?
Hey Arman, I’m around…writing a book on communication skills that is taking most of my time. I’ll be back soon! :)
@@SUPAbilitybySupreetBedi hmm, good to hear that

okay but how do i use my diaphragm with poor posture?
Hi, interesting question! Poor posture can alter our breathing style/mechanism which makes it harder to talk over the breath like mentioned in the video. I’d suggest concentrating on posture correction - consciously so - for an impactful diaphragm voice to follow. In fact, you can attempt saying the phrases mentioned in the video with an intentional slouch. You will find the power is lost and it’s way more ‘efforted’! I have a video on correct posture too so have a quick look at that! Hope this helps :)

Hlo mam
I am an deffence aspirant
I speak from my throat due to that some of mine words got un understable due to lack of voice modulation

I am eager to improve my voice to be effective in mine ssb(interview of cds exam) can u help me mam!
Pls tell me I am speaking from diagram but I voice was very hard change
Hi, Thanks for trying but voice projection takes a lot of practice. I tried to simplify it through this video but the rest is a game of practice and patience! From small words to couple of sentences, gradually increase your capacity of using the diaphragm voice. :)
My diaphragm is in my toe and I can't reach it😭
😂😂😂 Never heard of that one before! 🤪 The good thing is you don’t really have to ‘reach’ it, just need to ‘feel’ it! Kick it up towards your belly ;) and perhaps when it’s at its designated place, use it for voice projection. ;)
@SUPAbilitybySupreetBedi oh okie
I was just joking abt it ofc😁🤍

Aww sorry to hear, it’s an indication that you haven’t yet found comfort in using the diaphragm voice. Not to fret, it’s game of practice so pls don’t give up. More importantly, do not get impatient with the exercise. Start with mono syllables, then move on to phrases, short sentences, complex sentences and eventually a paragraph! You are sure to get there if you have succeeded in locating your diaphragm voice which is explained in the first part of the video. Good luck! 🙌
