Would love to see you revisit the worst luck possible TAS, you did a video about it already but I would love one with explanations of how you came up with the strategies and the rng etc.
The names of the strategies are out of control in this one. Macho Madness, Schwarzenegger's Revenge, Hollywood Blockbuster... Absolutely ridiculous. edit: the Criss Cross Crusher XD
The Bogus has been released. Roughly 1.5 seconds left before another TAS tie. Maybe someday we'll see someone successfully pull off a fight that has both TAS Phase 1 and the Phase 3 Triple Duck.
Hah, good April Fool's joke. Implying Super Macho Man can ever be beaten. Me when I was 7 playing this game for the first time can tell you, this man is unbeatable.
Same. When I was 7 in 1990 the furthest I ever got without codes was Bald Bull 2. Of course, with the codes I got to see Macho and Tyson and Sandman but I had zero chance to be competitive. It wasn’t until high school that I got another NES and copy of the game and trained hard enough to be able to beat the game. At 39, I picked the game back up to try my hand at speed running the game casually for my own entertainment. Still haven’t gotten around to learning Macho Man strats but I’m looking forward to it
What a ride. Thank you Pap for making these deep dive videos for each of the fights in MTPO. These videos have made me invested in MTPO in a way I've never been before and I hope you continue to make informative videos about this 35 year old video game.
Just wanted to say I've been binge-watching all of your essay-type videos over the past few months, and they've all been fantastic. Your presentation style is very inspirational, I appreciate how you put an emphasis on breaking down the tech and probabilities involved with each strat. Really interesting to learn about the inner workings of these games and how players began to manipulate them over time. Great work, eagerly awaiting whatever you choose to focus on next.
Cool! So now we have all the fighters. Oh wait… We need the Tyson video. It’s literally on the box, the cartridge, and the title screen: MIKE TYSON. Hope it comes out next month or two. You underestimate the completeness theorem Pap. That video not being made will be a detriment to the series!
when the video started on his pecs i thought this was an april fools' joke and it was just going to show super macho man's pecs for 1 hour. but this is fine too
THE BOGUS HAS BEEN RELEASED, WE NEED TO RUN FOR OUR LIVES There is something about the intro framing the pecs at the same time the Tekken 5 music starts that cracks me up way more than it should
This is another amazing video Pap. Glad I stayed up late to watch this. Thank you so much for sharing the wealth of knowledge you have gathered about this game!
Always a joy to watch, and feeling a bit sad we reached the end. Great job on editing, and a fantastic script, one hour flew by and I was none the wiser.
pap, you seriously have some potential. i love all your videos and they always keep me engaged and interested. would definitely love to see you expand your horizons and make some content on some other games/topics in the same style ❤️
I feel like I did when I went to see Harry Potter 6 pt2. Excited as shit but I don’t want it to be over! (We won’t be mad, Pap, if you make an up-to-date Tyson episode… *wink* *wink*) But seriously Pap, as a 40yo who first faced Tyson (with the code) at 7 years old in 1990 (only to be very quickly knocked out) this series has been incredible to see. I recently had my first round 1 Tyson and am currently working on lowering my pb. It’s not so easy haha. I’ve had 7 rd 1 Tysons in the last 4 months only. PB is 2:42. This series and your other MTPO videos have unlocked for me so many life-long mysteries and have helped me get my life’s revenge on the game that once made me break my NES controller in 1st grade. Thank you. It means more than you know
Mr sandman took me 2 hours to get use to Super Macho man...only about 10 minutes and no these are not speedrun strats, all though I do use them for soda pop and baldi bull 1 and piston honda 2 and glass joe, but only when im just playing the game in my last 2 electives for how boring they are
Love awaiting your videos; Have to plan my whole night around them like a cinema experience. Question, do you think the Punch-Out!!! Wii or original arcade communities have as dynamic of a following as the NES?
i love your speedrunning history videos, but i usually watch them before bed and end up falling asleep before i get through them... such is life, i suppose. i'll never complain about rewatching one of your videos
Love the content as usual. Your editing is always clean, and little nuances make every video enjoyable. Also extra points for ripping the jankiest bismuth thumbnail you could.
22:30 i can hear that at the end of the audio clip it is very slightly higher in pitch (like probably about 100 hz difference, which is understandably real hard to tell in run)
Ref: Illegal punch to the back of the head. Judges, deduct two points from Mac. Mac: Dude, he was LITERALLY TELEPORTING around the ring ten seconds ago!

Lovely series. Awesome job on the videos! Any plans on making more videos like the MediEvil or Spyro 2 ones? I just absolutely love speedrun history of old 3D platformers.
I started one for another PS game, but unfortunately I lost a bit of motivation when I couldnt maintain contact with the first runner.. they basically stopped responding after I tried to re-establish connection and I dont want to pester them... They are relatively big streamer. Anyway, I can write a script around it, since its only the first run, and I might have to tackle the project a little differently since strategy wise, the run is less dense and I like focusing on the tricks and strategies. I just dont have time to undertake such a massive project at the moment.
@@Papamanual Oh, interesting! Thank you for the insight. Must be A LOT of work to make these kind of videos. I can only imagine.. Thanks again for all the great content.
34:45 "unfortunately due to modernity this strategy remains unnamed" LAME why can't it be called something like "the busted block" (decent double entendre no?)
imagine breaking the world record and then some bum coming back over you and doing the same strategy and beating you because the star punches have more power
Listening to those audio cues for the spins, the difference sounds a lot more obvious in the boops behind the actual spin sounds. In the last spin, it sounds like there are two of those boops back to back while the earlier ones only have a single boop.
I'm pretty sure Macho is also by far the winningest boxer in the game vs Mac, considering there's two fights who's speedrun grinds involve putting in his code and then losing to him on purpose. Poor DaveP has probably the worst record vs Super Macho Man of any two boxers real or fake.
Please do the Tyson video. There was some really good stuff on Red Tom's website about the first Round 1 Tyson that Summoning Salt didn't cover, and his video basically covers the post-Turk history.
Whenever you talk about how certain interactions can lead to more or less damage, I wonder how much of it was intentional or if it's just a quirk of how the game was programmed. The Spinsucker reminds me of how the Wii version of Super Macho Man has an instant KO by hitting the end of his third clothesline with a Three-Star Punch, which makes me feel like that one was intentional. Given that Next Level Games included things like an infinite on Don Flamenco, I don't doubt that they'd have included that as a nod to the original fight as well.
I saw on one archive page that Super Macho Man actually has sprites for a jab. Have you ever seen them used in-game or with some funky game genie code?
No i havent seen it in game with game genie or something, but it does make sense since he has sprites for it since he is a palette swap of Soda who definitely has a jab.
Some people treat it as a hobby, some people can stream it, gathering ad revenue, some people want to be the best. Some people want to learn the mechanics of the game. There are a plethora of reasons. As far as I know, there is still little in terms monetary reasons to speedrun outside of the "just stream it for ad revenue" - which can be applied to anything as long as you get an audience.

I wonder what is average time for pro players to beat the entire game without doing any resets even if a really bad luck happened. It would be fun to give players two hours of in-game time and see who would get the best time if resets and failures are not allowed.
Even if no resets were allowed, players can still beat the game very fast. There are safer strategies which generall get fast times, and even if you get really bad luck with them, there are back up for them. Id say even with extremely poor luck, a top player could still beat the game in under 20 minutes.
