He is sharp. Taiwan is merely an arm away from the mainland, and such geographical distance can never be shortened or lengthened. China may be defeated by the US-led forces the first time, a second time, even a third time. But China will never amend its constitutional claim over Taiwan. Sooner or later, a fourth time will come when USA loses its interest and zeal, and decides to quit and let it be. After the collapse of the Cultural Revolution and Mao's death, Deng visited many countries (especially in 1978) to learn how to craft a new model. TBH Taiwan is just not terribly important to the US. Should there be a military conflict, the gain on helping Taiwan is far less then the loss on antagonizing mainland China. LKY is absolutely right.

China will never give up on reunification with Taiwan. Even if they have to sacrifice a million soldiers in order to beat the American military to achieve that goal, they will do it. That is the resolve of the mainland Chinese on this matter. Talk is cheap. Let's see what the American public has to say when a few hundred thousand body bags filled with their son's bodies are flown back to America. Then we will see who blinks first. For those who think America has more nuclear weapons and so they can win, let me remind you that China already have an operational HGV which the Americans still do not have. 300 nuclear warheads on HGVs which cannot be intercepted is more than enough to ensure that America will feel the full force of a retaliatory nuclear strike. Why do you think China is buying S-400 systems from Russia and placing them all on the East coast of China? The S-400s are capable of intercepting incoming ballistic nuclear missiles from America. So while China's S-400s can shoot down american nuclear ballistic missiles, America cannot shoot down Chinese HGVs. That ensures that the Americans will not start a nuclear war against China, only a conventional war. Having said that, China does not want a war with America over Taiwan. It doesn't have to because in time, Taiwan will eventually choose to reunite with China. Why? Because by 2050 or 2060, China will be the largest economy in the world with one of the highest standards of living and also the largest military force globally.

Geographically Taiwan is indeed somewhat important, if the US's goal is to contain and antagonize China. But why should the US make China an enemy in the first place? It's penny wise, pound foolish.
The unsinkable aircraft carrier (yes, I know the famous quote was from WW2 and the enemy was Japan but the logic is still the same when China is referred to today). The importance goes beyond trade.
Important enough to be willing to sacrifice the lives of 500,000 American soldiers? China's military technology is improving by leaps and bounds every year. Within 20 to 30 years, their armed forces will have caught up (if not over taken) the American armed forces in terms of technology as well as absolute numbers of military hardware. China will never give up on reunification with Taiwan. Even if they have to sacrifice a million soldiers in order to beat the American military to achieve that goal, they will do it. That is the resolve of the mainland Chinese on this matter. Talk is cheap. Let's see what the American public has to say when a few hundred thousand body bags filled with their son's bodies are flown back to America. Then we will see who blinks first. For those who think America has more nuclear weapons and so they can win, let me remind you that China already have an operational HGV which the Americans still do not have. 300 nuclear warheads on HGVs which cannot be intercepted is more than enough to ensure that America will feel the full force of a retaliatory nuclear strike. Why do you think China is buying S-400 systems from Russia and placing them all on the East coast of China? The S-400s are capable of intercepting incoming ballistic nuclear missiles from America. So while China's S-400s can shoot down american nuclear ballistic missiles, America cannot shoot down Chinese HGVs. That ensures that the Americans will not start a nuclear war against China, only a conventional war. Having said that, China does not want a war with America over Taiwan. It doesn't have to because in time, Taiwan will eventually choose to reunite with China. Why? Because by 2050 or 2060, China will be the largest economy in the world with one of the highest standards of living and also the largest military force globally.
@@MrDancingbikersg interesting people in Shenzhen on average earn more than people in Taiwan now and the gap will widen. It won’t be long now till the people in Taiwan will resent wasting money on American fighter jets that it’s government can’t even really afford to maintain.
