I heard about Danny Spanos from my friend Jack who, like Danny, was also drummer for Redbone for a little while and who also just passed away🥲Both amazing guys and very talented musicians. Then, found Danny’s music videos. He’s Really good! Also found the later video of him in the car interview, talking about his experiences. These guys were in the same circle and worked with, or dealt with the same “big business”, rough & seedy people in Hollywood. Hollywood and “the business” is a not so nice, rough world from way back when and still exists to this day. It’s so NOT glamorous. It’s a dirty world and the Bigger they become, the Dirtier it becomes with the sacrifices and all of the other dirty stuff they have to endure to get there. Thankfully, we were somewhat overprotective parents and constantly by our son’s side throughout the Hollywood life and experiences. Along with Jesus. Always kept him safe. Never fell into those wrong hands. He never had to and would never choose to. Friends with some very famous celebrities, met some of the seedy people but never harmed nor caught up in the deep, darkness of it all. We thank Jesus for that. Had we known that ANY of this kind of stuff went on, our son would never have been involved in Hollywood nor the entertainment industry. NEVER. Rest in Heavenly peace Jack and Danny. Thank you for the wonderful music.

I once won a free drink at a topless establishment when the DJ said whoever tells me who sang this song first wins. I was 10 feet away and I immediately said "Danny Spanos!" dude was shocked. it was like 1994.

He's from Michigan, and he did well there and in Ontario when I was in HS. I know you weren't asking me, but as another data point: I heard this version, I assume when it was new, on 98Rock in Baltimore, MD. I loved it immediately.. (I can understand people coming at this from hearing Hardline first may not care for it, and I have probably come to like the Hardline version more, but this still holds up). As far as I recall, it's the only song by Spanos I ever heard. I don't remember it being a huge hit hereabouts, but I think people liked it well enough. Just my $0.02.

Back in the day, when i first heard "hot Cherie" on the radio, i went out to the record store the following pay day to grab the tape. I played the flavor out of that tape. Little did I know that i'd meet and work with a girl named Cherie-shoulda been my wife, but that's another story :)...... ah, good times!! Still a good song after all these years.
If I had to pick just one song to be representative of the 80's "lost gem", you're listening to it. Other artists versions are okay, too, but Spanos completely nailed it with a unique sound on both instrumental and vocal work. I also feel that no other line has ever been written to surpass the core of utter romance than the lake and campfire scene so eloquently painted into this piece.
Nice version. Canadian band Streetheart wrote it in 1983, but their LP never got released until 1984. Spanos just got his recording released first, but he didn’t write it.
His was the first I heard, as it happened. And as it happened I was in love with a girl named Sherie at the time. Crazy. It was much later that I caugh onto the Streetheart version, but this Spanos version was the original for me, as much as I love Streetheart.
For those who are interested, none of Danny Spanos 3 LP albums were ever re-released on CD. Such a shame since the interest for a CD would be great. Record executives - such geniuses! DUH! This song is available only CD format on "Heard It On The Radio" Volume 2 which is a various artists compilation issued on Renaissance records.
Saw him in '83 , London Victory Club , Tampa FL. Me and my band mates got there in the afternoon during sound check. Cool dude , he hung out with us like just a regular guy.

I was at a small event called The Mojave, California Gold Rush Parade in the 80's. There was a small stage in the park that was setup for the event. There were a few local musician that had spotted Danny there at the event. Some of the locals knew Danny as a kid from the Mojave Desert and pleaded with Danny to come up on stage and do this song. It was the first time that I had heard this song. Danny's voice was so spectacular and the band was equally wonderful as the evening started to get dark. I will never forget this song and that night for as long as I live. I kid you not Danny's voice was SO STRONG, SO CLEAR. I have heard that Danny went to Hollywood, California and got lost in the crowd down there. He will always be welcome to show up here in the park in Mojave, California to rock our desert any time. THIS version is a cover as well. The Canadian band Streetheart recorded this before Spanos did. But, I'd have to say this is the definitive version, in my opinion. Whoever said this guy's voice was worse than the dude from Hardline is obviously tone deaf.
