My Dad played this Jam when I was growing up! We found the vinyl and bought him a record player a few years back. Always has been one of my favorite songs from my childhood. Dad still swears he was ahead of his time!
I heard this the end of my junior year and the beginning of my senior year of high school. Then it was just gone. Luckily I taped it off the radio. Me and friends played it so Much the tape broke. Had nearly forgotten all about it. Man this takes me back to 83/84 like a freaking time capsule. A different world .........
Seriously! I used to play this song when it first came out. I taped it off the radio so the band could learn it. It was always a favorite of mine. Thought I would never hear the original again, until a friend found it on an obscure "Heard It On The Radio" cd. And then came the internet and UA-cam!!
I will love this song from when i was 14 and depressed and only great music like this gave me hope and energy to learn to be thankful ....love you Danny,I CANT WAIT FOR OCTOBERRR!
Great song great hook. Danny is from South Lyon, MI. "Cherie" was #15 on Billboard summer 1983. Neal Schon's band Hardline covered it 1989 but Spanos version rules! Long Live Detroit Rock & Roll. Checkout live version from Dallas on King Biscut too very cool!!
He lived out by us in California City and. My dad worked on his amp and he came over a couple of times and played the demo of passion in the dark for us. His wife Cheryl was a beautician in California City. He told me and my brother he would take us to meet quiet riot but it never happened.
This is definately "poppier" than the Hardline version, but I like his vocals. He really has good pitch and nails all the notes with some good power. Especally the "strong enough" line at 2:23-2:24. That sounds particularly awesome!
There are several versions of this great song, but yes you are right. This is by far the best version. And Carmine Appice and I think Rick Derringer play on it. Danny was the real thing.
Danny if your out there And if you ever read these posts just know that people really liked you...Your missed ! Hope your still making music somewhere...Just wished we knew about it ... Thanks ! 💜
Great song!! There are another fantastic version of this tune, performed by US Hard Rock band Hardline ( with Journey guitar man Neal Schon) from their CD "Double Eclipse "(1992)!
BTW There are 5 names on this song for writer and Danny isn't one. Really sounds like Rick Derringer on guitar for sure. I think they only did one tour. Danny wrote some other songs for a Tom Cruise movie and another one. Big talent.
I LOVE, the obscurity of this. I saw Hardline do this song . . . WELL, and always thought that they created it. We can always learn. - Just like "I love rock and roll" I guess. NOT written by, the great Joan Jett.
1 word =*epic,,you can sit here and fukn say ''so and so did it much better,,well Danny Spanos is the real deal who wrote this cut,,go do your 'homework pal'

Danny Spanos is Greek.
Raised in the U.S. and played in several bands through the years.

Danny's wifes name was Carol not Cheryl

This is good, but I like the Hardline version better.
Timeless, & I mean TIMELESS CLASSIC!!!
I remember this one and "Cant shake you" by Santers being brief one hit wonders in the fall of 1983.
Had this cassette...Loved everysong. Great voice!

He is dead
Spanos once played drums for the band Redbone, which gave us the 1970's hit Come Get Your Love.
Excellent Song! Makes me feel like putting on my leather jacket and lighting up a camel!
Poor camel... lol

Just a feel good song

I remember this, the original version of this great song, in Summer 1983. I had just turned 16, and had all the hope in the world...sigh...
Cherie probably jumped thi guy's bones immediately after she heard this song for the first time.
You said the truth is there great song!
@TexasFury It's by Streetheart not Steelheart...which is a different and awesome band
And Streetheart in album "1984 Buried Treasure (vinyl-rip)"
BTW There are 5 names on this song for writer and Danny isn't one. Really sounds like Rick Derringer on guitar for sure. I think they only did one tour. Danny wrote some other songs for a Tom Cruise movie and another one. Big talent.
Hardline FTW!!!!!

anybody have a billboard chart position?
Did not make Billboard's Top 40 but I remember this one from about June 1983, airplay on one of the Dallas/Ft Worth AOR FM's (97.9 or 102.1)
I don't care if it made billboard or not it's might one of my most favorite songs! This was back when they still make good music.
As someone stated above........#15 on U.S. Billboard summer 1983.
HAWH!
good vocals...music..not my thing at all...Hardline's version!
This song is a lot better!
Yeah way better hardline's too mellow
I definitely prefer his version to hardlines
