Personaly I prefer the version from Danny Spanos and Hardline because this sounds more like an unreleased/unfinished demo to me. After some digging I came to the conclusion that Danny Spanos released it first in 1983 but it was written by members of the band Streetheart who for some reason gave the track away (or wrote it for Danny Spanos) and then they released it on their album Buried Treasure in '84
John Papadakis this is and Spanos is good if you like dance rock or new wave, but Hardline’s version is perfect for 80s radio heavy metal. I can’t believe they didn’t fare a little better.
I love hardline's version but the more I listen to Streetheart's I think its becoming my favorite. But then again Steerheart is one of my favorite Canadian bands and they deserve WAY MORE CREDIT then they ever got!!! And I love all their songs ...Long live Canadian rockers!!!!
As a musician who played this song when it first came out, and I believe Spanos version is the original, I'm amazed that it's been covered by so many different bands. I mean really, it's rather an obscure song! Personally I like the Spanos version because it just flows better for me.
secondhandsongs.com/performance/795842/versions 'Hot Cherie' was a song Streetheart wrote and recorded for their s/t 1982 album but was bought by Spanos' label for release as a single before the Streetheart album hit the streets. It was later on their posthumous 'Buried Treasure' album. 'Passion In The Dark' by Danny Spanos was released in 1983 and Streetheart's 'Buried Treasure' was released in 1984, but the song was originally written by Streetheart.
I call it the Neil Diamond effect. Neil Diamond wrote 'I'm a Believer' but the Monkees recorded and released it before he did. Now everyone thinks that he covered his own song.
This is the best Version. It came out before Hardline's and was actually written by Streeheart and given to Danny Spanos.Plus Kenny Shields vocals are world class. RIP
I just saw Streetheart in concert and OMG, they rocked so hard and they sound better than they ever did if thats possible,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,ROCK ON STREETHEART,,,,,and thanks for the GREAT MUSIC,,,,,and by the time I got to the stand to get a t-shirt they were all gone, my bad, but I got cap and I love it,,,,,,,ONE of the best bands ever!!!!
Can't decide...this or Hardline. Both bring a completely different take on the song. This one has a faster tempo which I do like better and the lightening clap in the chorus is cool. Hardline's is heavier and is more intense but this is pure 80's rock. Thinking i like this one more each time I hear it. Ah, both are great!
This version is fuckin' amazing & it's the original WOW!!!could see why HARDLINE covered this BRILLIANT track ,just one of those one of a kind songs.....Gotta love the 80's & it's PRODUCE.....love this post man great work.....
No better, no worst... Different...And all versions rock, Hardline, Brunnete, Spanos (lol)... this one sounds more nwobhm to me... Great!!! Again, all versions are great!!!!
As far as i know there are some good covers of 'hot cherie'. The original Danny Spanos and Steve Thomson, Hardline and Streetheart, and to me, all of them rocks! My all time favourite is Hardline's version
I vote for Danny because we heard it at our house in California city before it was ever released on album. his wife cut hair and cut my stepmoms hair and she told her , her husband was a musician and my stepmother told her that my dad worked on electronics so he came over and had my dad fix Amp for him . then they came over for dinner and he played the demo of hot cherie . he also claimed he was at the meeting when ozzy bit the head off of a dove. we saw him a few more times after that and I moved back to Missouri shortly after. he was going to take my brother and I to meet quiet riot but it never happened. he lived In a trailer out in the desert and my dad partied with him over there. I'm pretty sure Ron wood was there once. I was 18 at the time and my brother 15. I never went over there. I just seen him and his wife and his two kids at our house a couple of times. his wife was beautiful . I think her name was Cheryl or Carol or something like that. I was wondering if the woman in the excuse me video was her but I can't remember exactly what she looked like it's been so many years ago. lately I've listened to passion in the dark and looks like trouble. all these years and hot cherie was the only song I ever heard. they are actually pretty good records and Danny had a great voice. kind of a cross between rod Stewart meets Bryan Adams meets Jon Mellencamp. he had some pretty well know musicians backing him. I don't know exactly what happened whether it was poor promotion and management and probably drugs but after listening to quite a few tracks off both albums he deserved to be bigger than he was .
Wow, I always thought Danny Spanos wrote this! Thanks for the enlightenment however, Danny does the best version by far of this. This song deserves a great groove. This version sounds like Cherie on Speed to me, sorry
Danny Spanos of Redbone in 1983 Steelheart in 1984 Brunnette, who were the Gioeli Brothers from Hardline in 1986 and then Hardline, who were the Gioeli brothers and their brother-in-law Neal Schon of Journey in 1992. This awesome song has went through many reversions. Johnny Gioeli is currently with German guitarist Axel Rudi Pell and they are outstanding.
I like Hardline's cover best. Probably because it is the first one I heard. Listen to a song a few hundred times over a period of years and a person has a tendency to think the one they've listened to for that long is the best. I guess if I had listened to this one for years, the Hardline one would be second.
Both records, the buried treasures of streehart and looking fpr trouble has been released in 1994. (what a an awesome year with so many unfogettable releases). I like both versions. But i think its Dannys song, because he did write it. Look at the credits on the streetheart sleeve.
@pidarurod Okay yes, I should have been a bit more clear. Brunette was hardline before Neal Schon came along. Brunette was the Gioeli brothers before they joined hardline, and they were the creators of hot cherie.
Haha...this IS the original. The song was written by the members of STREETHEART for their "Dancing With Danger" album in 1983. But the band skipped the song for some reason ang give it to Danny Spanos. Later in 1984 streetheart put it on their "buried treasure" album. Learn the history before you talk folks...
Streetheart have a double album full of hits, the same can't be said for Hardline and the fact that their best song is a cover is bad news for them too.
This song by Streetheart is the best version of Hot Cherie by far. At least to me it is. Unfortunately it's not available on iTunes to download which is weird as I thought it would be included with the greatest hits.
@LosDrahos its not the original the original is by Dany Spanos, Streetheart did a lot of covers; Under my Thumb, Tin Soldier, and Hot Child in the City are a few.
@TwinBlasters wth are you talkin about!Gioeli brothers werent hot cherie creators man!Streetheart was!Hardline past or late 80s early 90s members Joey Gioeli Christopher Maloney Bobby Rock Neal Schon Deen Castronovo Todd Jensen brunette past members:Johnny Gioeli- lead vocals, guitars Joey Gioeli - guitars Christopher Paul - guitars Jay Scott King - bass Darek Thomas Cava- drums and you are talkin abouyt that neal schon joined brunette and then it became hardline! Are serious!!:D
as a Canadian i honeslty never knew this was originally done by Streetheart, so glad the first version i ever heard was Hardline's, beacuse this is horrible in comparison.
@pidarurod Wow okay. I stand completely corrected, I was unaware that it was a cover. But according to Google, some guy named Danny Spanos made Hot Cherie.
I was duped by not wearing my glasses, i thought it read Steelheart, but not in a bad way, it was may more bad ass! I love the renditions that are posted but this is awesome.
Actually, you "wasted" 3.91667 minutes of your life. You cannot refer to a non-decimal compound of minutes and seconds in that way. Instead, you should've said: "I wasted 3 minutes and 55 seconds of my life".
Hardline version is the best for me because I’m a hard rock fan.
I have listened to all 3 versions, I really think Hardline did the best job on this song of all 3
Love the 3 versions of this great song Spanos ,this and Hardline theres no competition all 3 can live happily ever after
Check out the Bonfire version too! Pretty sick as well!
Its a Streetheart song but they give it to Danny Spanos.
In this original version it's pretty good energetic song, but Hardline made this just epic.
The original was Danny Spanos (1983) , Then Streetheart 1984
@@reloadnorth7722, so be it, but the best and most powerful version of this song was made by Hardline.
Streetheart is a phenomenal band. Love the guitar work by Jeff Neill, and Kenny kills it on vocals. Awesome energy!!
kenny shields was gd amazing! he will be missed -streetheart rocked Canada!
Personaly I prefer the version from Danny Spanos and Hardline because this sounds more like an unreleased/unfinished demo to me.

This is the New Wave/Power-Pop version - Hardline's is the kick-ass version.
+Dmitry Owens Both versions are good.
This version absolutely rocks!!!! Hardline is awesome to but Streetheart rocks with all their tunes,,,,so Rock on Streetheart!
Its their song. They originaly wrote it for their "dancing on danger" album 1983 but skipped the song in last minute and give it to Danny Spanos.
I love hardline's version but the more I listen to Streetheart's I think its becoming my favorite. But then again Steerheart is one of my favorite Canadian bands and they deserve WAY MORE CREDIT then they ever got!!! And I love all their songs ...Long live Canadian rockers!!!!
Streetheart were great, saw them many times.
has a punk or new wave attitude to it, sign of the times
Wow didn't realize it was a remake and thank God Hardline did it because their version is kick ass
As a musician who played this song when it first came out, and I believe Spanos version is the original, I'm amazed that it's been covered by so many different bands. I mean really, it's rather an obscure song! Personally I like the Spanos version because it just flows better for me.
Magnus Wettermark ..... That is incorrect. The song was on the "Buried Treasure" album that came out in 1984. Danny released his version in 1983.

@@nunodamiao150 Thanks! This is what I thought....
I call it the Neil Diamond effect. Neil Diamond wrote 'I'm a Believer' but the Monkees recorded and released it before he did. Now everyone thinks that he covered his own song.
Pero la versión de Dany es más completa x los arreglos teclado saxo ese bajo y vocero de danylas otras dos son muy amateur y básicas
This is the best Version. It came out before Hardline's and was actually written by Streeheart and given to Danny Spanos.Plus Kenny Shields vocals are world class. RIP

For me, the Danny Spanos version will always be #1 for this song, but these guys are the orginals. Streetheart rocks no matter what.
Love this Streetheart original. Hardline did a okey cover..
Can't decide...this or Hardline. Both bring a completely different take on the song. This one has a faster tempo which I do like better and the lightening clap in the chorus is cool. Hardline's is heavier and is more intense but this is pure 80's rock. Thinking i like this one more each time I hear it. Ah, both are great!
take both... no one is making u to keep one....just rock it!!!
You forgot the Danny Spanos version. It's good also.
Neal Schon adds his style to hardlines and that cements that one as the best for me.
I vote for Danny's Spanos's version of the song.
This version is fuckin' amazing & it's the original WOW!!!could see why HARDLINE covered this BRILLIANT track ,just one of those one of a kind songs.....Gotta love the 80's & it's PRODUCE.....love this post man great work.....
Loved this band!
The album is called "BURIED TREASURE"
I have the cassette version of it, a lot of great songs on it!
I thought this was a Hardline song. They definitely do the best version of it.
Every amateur kid out there think so. The song is written by Streetheart founder and original singer Kenny Shields(rip)..
No better, no worst... Different...And all versions rock, Hardline, Brunnete, Spanos (lol)... this one sounds more nwobhm to me... Great!!! Again, all versions are great!!!!
JOHNNY OF HARDLINE WITH KILLER GUITAR RIFFS OF NEAL SCHON. ..AMAZING! !
And Dean's killer groove!
Great comeback.
Hardline's version is one of my favorite songs of all time.
As far as i know there are some good covers of 'hot cherie'. The original Danny Spanos and Steve Thomson, Hardline and Streetheart, and to me, all of them rocks! My all time favourite is Hardline's version

I like Spanos' version the best.
Absolutely.

Hardline's version is the best
Spanos did it in 1983.
Danny Spanos of Redbone in 1983
Steelheart in 1984

@@JoyfulSaturn-cz2ui Totally correct
100%
@keisterr The demo version of 'Hot Cherie' by Hardline is near identicle to the Danny Spanos version. You might enjoy it :)
Link?
Hardline's version is more polished and heavy...
but this one sounds more classy and raw...!!
@vexacon LOl, me too. Wish I could find it on CD! Wanna Be With You was My wedding song.

Hardline's was also the first one I heard
Buenazoo...original version
Молодцы! Задорно! :)))
I think the Brunette version is the best but I like the song so much I’ll pretty much take it any way I can get it!
Both records, the buried treasures of streehart and looking fpr trouble has been released in 1994.
(what a an awesome year with so many unfogettable releases). I like both versions. But i think its Dannys song, because he did write it. Look at the credits on the streetheart sleeve.
Prefer the Hardline version although I'm a Streetheart fan. Saw them many times live in Calgary.
@pidarurod
Okay yes, I should have been a bit more clear. Brunette was hardline before Neal Schon came along. Brunette was the Gioeli brothers before they joined hardline, and they were the creators of hot cherie.
The real original song is the Danny Spanos version " 1983 Danny Spanos - Passion in the Dark" this one is a cover " Streetheart -Buried Treasur" 1984

También existe la versión de Steve Thompson...!!!
Лушая версия из трёх , что я слышл!!!
I had no idea that the Hardline version was a cover! (This is cool for historic value, but I think I like that version a lot better!)
@pidarurod Brunette is Harline.
The original, but not the best of later covers... Highly likely... Damn, I like it!
Til today I only know this song from Hardline
The original was Danny Spanos (1983) , Then Streetheart 1984
@SoA2k6
Where can I hear the demo?
@ken richards have you heard brunette's version, it's my favorite
I think this version is alot better, mostly because of the clap in the chorus, Hardline removed it, why?!
I like this one better than Hardline's, lol. I like Spanos' better than too. This one might be my favorite though, it's grown on me!
Its the original.
Distinct change in era.
@avalancheviking I stand corrected it is written by Streetheart got it right from the horses mouth......the guy who wrote it Jeff Neil cool guy!!!
Danny Spanos best version. This singer has no grit
Totally. I thought it was a female 80's pop singer.
Hardline's version is even better.
As for the dude cryin bout wasting 3 min of his life im sure ur woman feels the same !
Danny Spanos' version is cool too!!!
Danny Spanos version is the best for me.
@LosDrahos its not the original the original is by Dany Spanos, Streetheart did a lot of covers; Under my Thumb, Tin Soldier, and Hot Child in the City are a few.
before of hardline version is the brunnete version.
@pidarurod hardline is almost done with whole new members!not only neal!from journey!

Steelheart 1984
Brunette 1986

Not Steelheart
I was duped by not wearing my glasses, i thought it read Steelheart, but not in a bad way, it was may more bad ass! I love the renditions that are posted but this is awesome.
I prefer Danny Spanos Version much better in 1984
Hardline's song is not the same song. Same name..not same song.
Same song, same name.
It's the same song, lyrics match 90%.
It's the same song it's just a little slower
Hardline got this but steelheart is off the chain
STREETHEART !!!!! Why cant people learn to read?
hardlines version is 10000 times betta
and this song was coverd by brunette too man!
Going a bit heavy on the vari-speed? These guys sound like they're trying to be the real life chimpmunks.
I prefer the Hardline version. This one's too frantic.
You just read my mind.
Same.
And the vocals sound gay.
they sound like little mice
Suzi?
dont like this version
Good song - but I prefer Hardline's version
@4801230006 You are so very right. this version is major lame
Fuck hardline, this is the best version.
some things are better left alone. Nobody does like Danny, sorry.
I love this song, but these guys are going way too hard on the chorus.

Is that a female singer? Weak. Hardline's version totally blows this away.
This is terrible!! I like Steelheart! But this is not good. Sorry, I thought it was Danny Spanos, and Hardline made it AWESOME! Ruv, Yoshi!!
yoshi bax This is Streetheart NOT Steelheart.......just making that clear....lol
xJuleeBeth xJoleeBeth Sorry!! You are totally right!! Still, terrible!! Ruv, Yoshi!!
