I'm a big fan of the grip panels and the new grip design, certainly enough to get me to buy one. I would however would like a 1911 trigger in it at some point, and a 5 inch slide so it can be the perfect gun.

Finally! Someone else realizes how awesome Steyr is! I have a Steyr M9 that I use as my carry gun, and I love it. I haven't found another pistol that is better ergonomically, or just pure shooting. Love the sights and trigger as well.
I got a chance to handle a Steyr A2 at a Gun Shop the other day. I was impressed with the ergonomics of it and overall feel of quality and sturdiness. I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to guns in general. IMO, the A2 almost seemed like a cross between a Gen 5 Glock and a CZ P10. Impressive. It's on my list. Thanks for the video. excellent review. I recently picked this up and really enjoy shooting this. I was extremely please with weapon. Feels like a dream and shoots like a dream. Its a hidden gem. Most people think of Steyr as a rifle company. If more people had exposure to this weapon more shooters would pick this up. As Honest Outlaw said in a later view he called it Odd But Excellent. Was able to get a L9-A2 MF two months ago. Grip has definitely improved for me with the A2 model. And what also has improved is ejection, no more brass into the face or on the forehead. I dont have my old L9A1 anymore, but from what I can remember the A2 fire control unit, the chassis, looks the same like I the old L9A1 one. Parts, springs, the way the trigger bar moves and engages the sear plate, the safety hook and recess, look like the A1. Now, with about 5oo rounds through the gun, a few trigger components show tiny wear marks in the coating, or some coloring. Rails show tiny bit of wear. Trigger pull avg. 10 times is 1.97 kg, or 4lbs 5.4. I would like to see fiber optic sights and maybe an extended magazine release button. Magazines hold 17 rounds. As of beginning of 2020 L9-A2 MF is not yet IPSC production listed, so I started in IPSC standard minor and had my fun with the gun.
1776 I seen this at a gun and knife show earlier this year and fell in love with it. I like the grip modularity of the VP9 and the ergonomics and shooting experience of the Steyr, so now I think that Steyr having the grip modularity comparable to the VP9 makes it the complete package. The only thing I could fault the previous model Steyr was lack of grip texture and modularity. This model has M&P 2.0 grip texture, VP9 grip modularity, and the ergonomics that Steyr has been reknowned for. I myself like the VP9 with medium backstrap large right palmswell panel and small leftside palmswell panel. I didn't get to try the different palm panels for the Steyr but I did like how they revised the grip of this model and it may be me but I think the trigger is better as well. I am very glad they kept the trapezoidal sights because of all manufacturer standard equipped sights Steyr's are the best and Glow-on phosphorescent paint turns stock Steyr sights into night sights quite nicely and it costs less than 20 dollars. My buddy has the C-9 and didn't want to give up the Trapezoidal sights but wanted night sights and that Glow-on paint worked great. Not quite as good as tritium but gets the job done.
I have a L9-A1. I have modified/upgraded it with a 'Ranger Point Precision' brass-weight, and a steel guide-rod. It shot great out of the box, but just those two simple additions have made a great handgun, into an absolutely tremendous handgun. I just love the feel and the accuracy of the Steyr.
That is one sexy beast, can't wait for mine to come in. I think that stipple job you have on the A1 model looks amazing! I also think Steyr should send you one of the new A2 models for free. They have to know you sold more guns for them than their own advertising dept. Have a great weekend brother!
I love my Steyr M9 , I love it. Best handgun I've ever owned. I like the fact that Steyr improved the grip texture which was the only thing I did not like. (I added a Talon grip) Honestly, it was the only thing they needed to improve, but it looks like they made the perfect ergonomics even more perfect! I didn't think you could improve perfection!
The A1 has a black nitride barrel. I do like the grip upgrade, but I'm so use to my L9, I probably wouldn't but an A2, unless in a C model... Great vid.
Fair and balanced review Phill! Look forward to hearing your thoughts once you get to take it out to the range. The A-1 and MF are definitely very different but they also have many similarities when it comes to overall ergonomics and of course the sights. We got to try one out in March so that we could make sure that all of our parts were compatible or modified for the L9-MF Models. So far we agree with you on all points.
Great video as always. The side panels is greatly adds to the ability to find the perfect fit/grip. Something other firearms mfrs can do as well. I wonder if anyone at Steyr thought what in some countries MF means.....🤔
Nice overview. I have always noticed that my S9-A1 does not show wear, inside and out. They are made to run and I shoot it better that my other pistols. The new one looks real sweet and the ergonomics look even better. It is worth a look. In NY myself I chose the S model because the extra size is not worth carrying due to 10 round limits, at least for carry reasons.
Finally got my L9 A2 last month. I didn't think it possible to be more comfortable than my A1 series. No hiccup's in 600rnds so far. Runs everything I've fed it, including HP's. Extraction seems stronger. $550..ordered online from PSA.
Got mine last week. Incredible pistol. Insanely accurate. I swapped out the stock mag-release spring for the Ranger Point one and added the BT striker bushing. Both mods made a noticeable difference (and they were cheap). I also added the Hogue 'tactical' grip sleeve (I add Hogues to everything). Perfect fit. I've owned/sold most of the 'major' poly 9s over the past few years, but this Steyr is a keeper (until I sell it to finance the M9-A2 haha).
Two mods the new Steyr DIDN'T like were the DPM RSA and the InForce APL light. The DPM did not play nice with the take-down lever (and didn't make a discernable difference in felt recoil in my hands) and the APL didn't line up well with the pic rail on the pistol. Looked goofy. Just a heads-up for anyone considering buying either.
I agree with you concerning this pistol, it's a must have! Do you have any info about different calibers, I would like one in .40cal? Also what is the availability of holsters?
The changes to the grip looks like it'll be very comfy in the hand to rival vp9. I want one, just really need them to come out with hi viz trap sight option.
I got one. And it is nice. The only thing a had to change is the magazine release spring. The original one is too stiff. I also changed to a metal glide rod, but that was for personal choice. The polymer one works fine. Now I'm waiting for Steyr to come out with the different size frames. I love the trapezoidal site. I wish there were night sites in the trapezoidal style.
Great video 1776. I kinda like the A-1 series better. The grip on the new A-2 looks like an FMK MC9 to me. Maybe it will grow on me. Only time will tell.
Wondering how is the grip texture compared to the M&P 2.0? On picture and video it look as rough which is awesome. If you had the chance to hold both id like to hear your opinion :)
I hope they have made some changes on the premature lockup issue I have with mine. If you baby the slide or have weaker ammo sometimes the slide doesnt go home all the way and that bothers me. It hasnt affected my shooting too much but its noticeable and it shouldnt be happening. Maybe the recoil spring on mine is just not worn in enough or its too strong? It does take a lot more strength to rack the slide on my steyr than other pistols I own
First time watcher of your videos. Very nicely done. I am subscribing. Always interested in Steyr but have never really seen them around. I even worked in a gun shop for two years and never saw one come through.
I want one!!! Have the M9 and didn’t know you could improve a 9 mm but they did!! They need a P R Guy like us and we would give flock a run for there money in my opinion!!!
Very nice overview. Kinda tempted by this one. I know you also like PPQs. How're the ergos compared to your PPQs? Or HK? I'm a huge PPQ and CZ75 ergo fan. They both beat everything I've tried or owned, including HK, S&W, Springfield, Glock & Sig. The modularity of the grip looks useful. How about a comparison of the trigger with PPQs and CZs (and others)? Maybe after you've had a chance to get to the range? Anyway, thanks for the review.
I wonder if the spring there has something to do with the extractor. I know on the earlier generations of the A1 series they had some extraction issues and they had to modify the extractor in the later generations. Maybe when they were able to go back to the drawing board on the A2 they took the opportunity to come up with a better solution for the extractor, if I were to guess.
I really appreciate your review. I would like more information about the company who did the stippling on your L9-A1. Would you be able to provide their contact information?
In your knowledge will they have this in different "sizes"? I am looking hard at steyr, especially this new updated model, but would also like a smaller gun for CCW purposes. Do they make a 4 inch barrel version or shorter, to simplify.
The original M9 A1 and S9 A1 would fit those criteria I'm hoping they will eventually come out with different sizes in this but so far this is the only one they are releasing at this point from what I hear though that is going to change
@@1776orbust Thank you for the reply! I'm researching before buying my first gun, and while there are still many contenders, Steyr is at the top of the list. I love the the looks, and low bore axis. It seems from reviews that helps tame muzzle flip, which is something I can appreciate. Throw the dpm system in, and it is supposed to help even more. I was looking at the M, or C models, but now that there might be those sizes in the A2 series, I'll have to wait! The modular grips appeal to me, as I have small hands. Do you know if the grips are sold separately or together with the gun? Anyway, thanks for the video!
I don’t know if anyone has asked yet, but do you know if the chassis or whatever it’s called grime the old gun will fit the new gun? Rumor is it will. I don’t know if you are allowed to pull this gun you received apart, but if you can switch them and confirm, that would be sweet! I want to be able to buy just the new grip/frame and drop the old chassis in it. I mean, I thought that was the whole point of a modular design? To me it would be a disappointment if you couldn’t. Looking forward to the shooting review. Love your vids!
I went to Steyr Mannlicher here in Wr. Neustadt last weekend and they said maybe in late August (after summer holidays) they will see the A2 in the shop. Regarding the changed backstop holding pin and spring - the lightening cut is not so long and maybe the new slide is now a bit heavier.
If I recall correctly they said the older mags work in the new guns fine but won't have a strong ejection. However the new mags won't work in the old guns. I hope the new mags are better than the older ones. I love my L9-A1 but the mags have exploded a few times when dropped on concrete. Also that magwell looks really nice considering how bad the original is.
1776 or Bust: Did you ever change out the striker spring and guide rod bushing with BT’s “delrin split guide rod bushings” and “Lee striker spring” on any of your Steyr L, M, or S models? I changed them out on both my M and S models. Wow, what a difference! It eliminated the trigger creep. I also lubricated the entire trigger group with “Super Slick Slick Stuff” and “Blaster Dry Lube with Teflon”. I got both at Lowe’s. The triggers on both my M and S models are buttery smooth now!
Greetings from Lithuania I bought one medium in Lithuania price is 850€ I love it i was choosing between Glock 19 gen 5 mos but I chose Steyr and not regret since
Maybe I missed it, but what is with the little round bit on the trigger guard? My main EDC piece since early 2001 is a pre A1 M40, and I really didn't like the changes to the grip on the A1 (which is why I bought one and turned around and sold it right away). So I'm really looking forward to the MF. Would love to see a red dot mount on the slide, and I'm also hoping I can get an S size frame for it (what would be perfect is an L or M slide on an S grip). Hoping there's a degree of modularity there. Also want more OD green and FDE frame options.
I'm a big fan of the grip panels and the new grip design, certainly enough to get me to buy one. I would however would like a 1911 trigger in it at some point, and a 5 inch slide so it can be the perfect gun.

I love your no fluff reviews, I liked the older model better and if you have size issue you can put a rubber grip on it.
First time watcher of your videos. Very nicely done. I am subscribing. Always interested in Steyr but have never really seen them around. I even worked in a gun shop for two years and never saw one come through.
it's a common sentiment from a lot of people
Hopefully that will change. I am way overdue for a firearm purchase
I want one!!! Have the M9 and didn’t know you could improve a 9 mm but they did!! They need a P R Guy like us and we would give flock a run for there money in my opinion!!!
Cool. I'm considering trading my much beloved VP9 for a M9 when they hit the market. FYI we free folk will get 17 round magazines.
My opinion this blows the vp9 out of water and I hate you for reminding me that I only have 10 Rounds LOL
Looks like they revised the extractor as well
I am looking forward to your range review.
definitely
Are thay coming out with more compact models?
Very nice comparison. I don't think I could choose between the A1 and A2 if you forced me.
Sold! Do you know when they'll be releasing? Thanks for your vid 17.
From what I've gathered approximately 30 days right now there's only five in the country
Anyone know when the A2 MF will be available in the US?
Damn I thought they were released. So want the new version
Can you explain what's the deal with the hole in the trigger guard? thanks
it's to lock into a duty holster
Steyr handguns rock.
Regarding the changed backstop holding pin and spring - the lightening cut is not so long and maybe the new slide is now a bit heavier.
very cool
Is the styer your ccw?
If I recall correctly they said the older mags work in the new guns fine but won't have a strong ejection. However the new mags won't work in the old guns. I hope the new mags are better than the older ones. I love my L9-A1 but the mags have exploded a few times when dropped on concrete. Also that magwell looks really nice considering how bad the original is.
1776 or Bust:
Did you ever change out the striker spring and guide rod bushing with BT’s “delrin split guide rod bushings” and “Lee striker spring” on any of your Steyr L, M, or S models? I changed them out on both my M and S models. Wow, what a difference! It eliminated the trigger creep. I also lubricated the entire trigger group with “Super Slick Slick Stuff” and “Blaster Dry Lube with Teflon”. I got both at Lowe’s. The triggers on both my M and S models are buttery smooth now!
I haven't done any of them the sings You've spoken about it does sound rather interesting though
Those saying that there's no change, would be the same ones touting Glocks as the best ever.
Greetings from Lithuania
I bought one medium in Lithuania price is 850€ I love it i was choosing between Glock 19 gen 5 mos but I chose Steyr and not regret since
Thanks for watching
Maybe I missed it, but what is with the little round bit on the trigger guard?
My main EDC piece since early 2001 is a pre A1 M40, and I really didn't like the changes to the grip on the A1 (which is why I bought one and turned around and sold it right away). So I'm really looking forward to the MF. Would love to see a red dot mount on the slide, and I'm also hoping I can get an S size frame for it (what would be perfect is an L or M slide on an S grip). Hoping there's a degree of modularity there. Also want more OD green and FDE frame options.
It's the lock into a holster for l e o
@@1776orbust Cool.
I like it. Have not shot one yet, but I plan to. Didn't Steyr also release a sub compact version of that as well?
Not of this newer version however there was one called the S9
Where can i get one of these.
