    From 30 feet (10m) i can shoot the 'X' away that has been drawn onto the target, the sights are that good. Greetings from Austria 🇦🇹

      The more I have shot my M9A1, the better I have gotten with this pistol. I am of the opinion that it is a better gun than the Glock. Even though the grip angle is not as natural as John M. Browning's, the ergonomic hump on the grip not only locks my hands in there, it gives me queues on how to point it. The trigger is way smoother than the Glock's. The grip angle and ergos lend themselves to recoil management. It does occasional ping me off the head with brass. The election pattern is inconsistent but the gun is reliable.

    Love my m9a2, it runs flawlessly and is super accurate, the trapezoidal sight is great for getting dead center on your target fast.

    Thank you for another excellent GROWN UP review! I never miss any heavy-metal soundtracks that other UA-camrs think are needed to keep our attention. That newest Steyr version lost the distinct protruding loaded chamber indicator that USED to be on the earlier versions, protruding from the rear and easily felt from the holstered gun without looking. The sights are designed so that the target bullseye sits on the TOP OF THE TIP of the front pyramid, which sits INSIDE of the trapezoid rear sight. So the bullseye sits on its bottom on the top level of the sights, a little higher than "six-o-clock." Your "high" first shots were right on! The "Glockish" grip angle is by design: when extending the arm the grip causes the sights to arrive "high" but when the fist tightens on the gun the wrist naturally drops the front sight LOWER, so the front sight drops into the rear. Glocks with the original white outline sight are like "dropping the ball into the basket;" Steyr is even more precise. This is BY DESIGN, and you will come to see how natural it is..........................elsullo

Have glocks, P320s, HKs, Wilson Combats and NIghthawk pistols, so pretty much all the tier 1 handguns. For the money i belive the Steyrs to be the best. I had been looking for these for quite a bit. I finally stumbled across one and executed. It is an M9A1 but even though it has smooth texture, your hands sink into it and you’re not dropping it. The trigger is very good. I’d heard the A2 trigger wasn’t as good, but I haven’t verified. Mine is a laser beam. The only complaint I have is the random ejection pattern. I heard they fixed that in the A2.
    You’re right about the grip angle and elevation, but it is easier to figure out with the hump and the undercut. It gives you queues how to point it. The grip angle really minimizes recoil. You can shoot it really fast. I’m not sure where I stand on the optics. I am very used to iron sites. I really like the trapezoid sites but they should have done the with tritium inserts IMO. I want factory night sights.
    I’m seriously considering the A2.

    I have both the M9-A1and M9-A2, can confirm, the mag release is reversible ( reach in with a small flathead screwdriver and push out the spring and flip over and reinsert the spring). I actually do have the one side flat and the raise side panel on the other side of the grip.

      That’s an interesting question. Since the Steyr is still in production, it’s value is pretty stable. It’s on the high side for a poly/striker pistol, but not outrageously so. The CS9 has been out of print for nearly 20 years. It’s value will be established by collector interest, but I suspect it will increase over time.

    A handgun I was very interested in theres been several iterations what it embodies is a more ergonomic glock design the compact model can also function with the standard higher cap magazines as well. I think steyr makes solid products they just suffer from a advertising deficit here In the states I've only seen one of these show up in a local gun shop in my parts nd its remained basically unknown those whove reviewed one have had nothing but positive remarks.

    I tried a few Glocks but they just don't point for me. CZs, Sigs, Berettas and 1911s do point for me. I also prefer metal and wood as opposed to plastic. and I love revolvers. Of course, I'm older now... Like you, I am attracted to handguns that are different.

    I'm a little late to this video, but I recently Re-Acquired my Steyr L40-A1. I had sold it to an uncle of mine, and he recently passed away, so it was given back to me.
    Mine isn't the A2, but a Gen-3 A1 model, which I find a bit more aesthetically pleasing. I've had no mechanical issues with my Steyr, and it shoots far better than my skills allow. My only issue is that Steyr doesn't do much for marketing in the United States.
    While it seems that everyone and their fifth cousin is offering a cookie cutter Poly/Striker gun, Steyr was already offering a unique take on them back in 1999.
    Seeing as you are a notable GunTuber, I wonder if you and other GunTubers do anything in the way of communicating with companies in order to get more product support in the U.S. It's very difficult to find suitable aftermarket parts and accessories for these amazing pistols.

    The sights do look interesting. It looks like they would be easy to use. Steyr usually produces quality products.
    As for emergency racking the pistol slide one handed, A friend of mine lost his dominate hand in a accident. Watching him operate a slide at the range is interesting. He had an attempted break in a few years ago and claims he operated the slide of his 1911 by hooking the rear sight on the edge of a table and pushing down. If I was in his situation I would go with a revolver like a S&W Mod15 or similar.

    I have had my Steyr L9-A2 since August 2020 (Approximately one year now) and have only put 650 rounds through it. I have had four failures to extract and I have found that when I load it to full capacity, chambering a round then loading a full mag in it will occasionally make the slide go slightly out of battery causing the firearm not to fire. That might just be the case with mine, but it is something to consider if you own one. I have owned my Steyr M9-A1 for over four years now and have over 3200 rounds through it with 0 malfunctions. My Steyr AUG M3 A1 has over 2600 rounds through it with 0 malfunctions.

      I’ve probably got about 250 rounds through my M9 A2. So far, it’s functioned flawlessly. Moreover, I haven’t cleaned it since I started shooting it, and I’ve taken to carrying it when I do outdoor work around my house (intentionally subjecting it to dust, sweat, and the occasional bump and ding). I’m trying to find out just how long I can neglect it before it chokes. So far, it hasn’t missed a beat.

    I've liked MOST of the Steyr pistols I've had the opportunity to handle over the years... the sole exception being that 19-shot monstrosity they offered in the late 80's, which had a grip configuration like a 2x4! Unfortunately for me, I haven't had the chance to try out the M9 A2 MF, as it's 4" barrel leaves it Prohibited under Canadian law.
    I really do get a chuckle out of foreign manufacturers' model designations, though. No American company would dream of designating their pistol the MF... at least, unless it was a Samuel L. Jackson Limited Edition!

    • @hrfunk

    A really excellent review, HR, and much appreciated. I have zero Steyr shorting experience, but it certainly looks like a well designed, high quality and carefully thought-through autoloader. I have looked at Steyr “pyramid” sights before - I am NOT suggesting they are inferior in any way - but I suspect they’d take some time and practice for me to become acclimated to them. I’d also strongly agree with your “optics ready” criticism; given the current state of autoloader designs, this seems like a “no brainer” to me, whether or not an individual chooses to use them. Thanks, again.

    • @hrfunk
      @hrfunk  3 роки тому

      You’re welcome Roy. For me, at least, the sights were pretty easy to acclimate myself to. The Glock grip angle is giving me more trouble than the sights, but that is just a training issue. More trigger time should cure me (if I can find reasonably priced 9mm ammo.)

      I know there’s no answer to this, but I own two Glocks (a 23C and a 36), and my accuracy with each is decidedly subpar (due to the ergonomics). Now, I’m sure we’d both acknowledge that’s not Glock’s problem - after all, there are millions who love the overall design - but ours. Still, accuracy is essential and fundamental, I can attain it with many semiautomatics, but not with Glocks, so that’s MY answer to the question.

    • @hrfunk
      @hrfunk  3 роки тому

      I don’t know if this has ever been studied (probably not) but I suspect a shooters affinity, or lack thereof, for a particular grip (angle, profile, circumference, etc.) is linked to the pistol with which they learned to shoot. For me, that would be the 1911A1. Pistols that more or less replicate the form of the 1911 (like the S&W M&P for example) tend to point quite naturally for me, and I recover from recoil more quickly for follow-up shots. Had I cut my shooting teeth on a Luger, I might really like the Glock pistols.

      I wholeheartedly agree, HR. For decades, I was a Smith double action revolver guy (it’s what the Bureau used and, therefore, what my dad employed to instruct me back in the 1950’s and 1960’s). In fact, the first sidearm I ever bought (and I still lobe it) ways a five inch barrel S&W M27 (my welcome home present in the early1970’s from a miserable 18 month overseas assignment). Until the late-1980’s the only autoloaders I had any real experience with were 1911-A1s and a Browning Hi-Power. I next purchased a G23C (like you, the .40 S&W cartridge seemed like an optimized load to me), and I hated it (although it was unfailingly reliable and durable). So, I agree with your thesis concerning the ergonomics (perhaps, mussel memory) of what we first used having a long-term effect on what we find “comfortable.” And, fwiw, I bought a 9x19mm Smith, 4.25 inch barrel, M&P a good many years ago, and found out to be very satisfactory; accordingly, it’s not a polymer frame and a striker action that’s MY problem.
