My dad does this along with getting me a owl stuffed animal. I love owl since I was a kid and every year for my birthday he get me one never the same one he still does it. I have a whole bookshelf for them.
Very nice. While you were talking, I was imagining small children and wondering how he was going to manage the tears of the poor children who got the two cupcakes in the middle that only had plain white icing on them. I trust by the time they reach 21, no one will cry if they don't get a cupcake that has no roses or flowers on it.
I had a friend who would always take a napkin and wipe off all the frosting. She said she loved cake and hated frosting. So there you go. There is usually one in the bunch.
As someone in a family with 11 cousins under 18 at one point, I’ve never had any kids cry over getting a boring piece/one with less icing. Sure, kids were more excited for the pieces with the big decorative blotches, but cake is cake. There are also usually some older kids who don’t like icing. I think crying over it is very spoiled behavior, and I hope that doesn’t actually happen! If kids are gonna cry over anything, its usually about all the chocolate cupcakes being gone or vice versa lol
I think simplicity is far underrated. This is a prime example of making something beautiful and simple. The combination of those two traits define the word "elegant". Very nicely done!

Once I ordered a 3 tier yellow cake (actually a pound cake) with chocolate frosting with purple flowers and green leaves. The baker and cake decorator had no vision and said "you're kidding right?" when I told them the colors. I knew it would be gorgeous with that deep brown frosting, with purple and green accents. I showed them the exact colors I wanted. When it was done they admitted I was right.
