  • Open tunings are an important part of the sound of rock & roll, and Ronnie Wood's open E riffs in this song are essential - and a window into the approach he would later use alongside Keith Richards in the Rolling Stones.

What is that you did to the tailpiece cover ??? I have never seen anyone do that before ...what is it there for ?? ...

Another fine lesson. Just out of interest, why not tune to Open D and capo on 2? Is it because of the awkwardness of playing too far up the neck or does it just sound better with the strings under the additional tension?

You would get the same notes, but yes, I think a 14th fret bar might be awkward. And I definitely like the projection and life you get from from higher string tension.

Great job - is E tuning hard on a guitar?

I wonder if it might be worthwhile to use lighter strings if you were going to keep a guitar in a high tuning like E instead of a low one like D or G. However, I've kept a dreadnought acoustic in open E with light strings without any trouble.
