Hey Ardetha, I really love your content and as someone who is pretty familiar with dbd throughout the years it's amazing to have some flashbacks and let nostalgia kick in every now and then. What I would love however (if possible, as it might be rough to find so I understand if not) is if you'd be able to give some gameplay examples of what it looked like back then as i feel it would portray it better than the imagination can. Actually seeing old machine gun Huntress actually makes you realize how strong it was. Other than that amazing stuff as always
10:40 i was actually just thinking while watching this video of how cool it would be if they made a perk that buffed brown add-ons by giving them an extra effect
Instead of affecting addons, they could make a perk that affects every killer's power individually and uniquely. They could make the perks effects range from percentage increases tailored to each killer or maybe make some fun addons base (without stacking).
Bro I did just 1 year of videogame programming school but when I heard that they are adding manually every single perk to Tinkerer i cringed out of my mind, that's so bad lmao how can you not find a way to give them a sub-class and not have to go crazy every single time you add new ones
@@NotRealAkira I'm a new player so I really didn't know :D But let's say I noticed there was something wrong when I realized Knight was disabled for more than a few days
Yeah, they underwent a major code rewrite at some point in the game's history. But, at this point, things were a mess. Even the Pig/Huntress mix-up is telling of how poorly documented/programmed the Tinkerer stuff was. Not even minding the duplication of code (that's actually encouraged), for them to miss the fact that Tinkerer affected addons it shouldn't have on the Pig was a little telling of just shit/confusing the code used to be. In all fairness to BHVR, they never thought the game would get this big and need to be supported for many more months, let alone years. So, in that sense, manual coding of Tinkerer isn't SO bad as there were only a handful of addons anyway. They also probably didn't design templates for killers, which explains why their duplication method would still have references to the cloned object.
As a doc main who used to play back I old tinkerer days: it was one of my favorite perks to run and felt so unique. Wish they could figure out a way to (even in a small way) have a perk effect add ons in some way. Pretty sure tinkerer used to make the range add ons for doc longer too but I may be mistaken.

yes and noob3 ruined those perks for us. because in the old days you had to be good to be killer. if you sucked as killer. You werent getting any kills. it was why camping and super tunneling existed because idiots couldnt get kills unless they did it. Then they ranked up and would get destroyed in high levels and start crying. I remember pre nerf Im on haddonfield getting tunneled by a nurse who wont blink and I have balance landing. Jump out the window on each house and run infinites which were insane. I literally got chased the whole match. I get out and the killer complains that this game is too easy for survivors. everyone in the endgame chat was like you never used yr power and to get into a chase with someone on haddonfield is crazy
@@buckiemohawk3643 oh I definitely remember the old haddonfield map which was amazing. I don't care what nobody says but some maps and specific survivor and killer perks shouldn't have been nerfed. I never thought that at all, I just tried to improve over the years. Iron-will was one of the strongest survivor perks along with boon circle of healing until people cried about it.
If by the logic described in the video in regards to tinkerer being a headache for the devs, its absolutely crazy to me they haven't reworked the Nurse since she alone dictates so many decisions when it comes to balancing and making of perks in game, especially being the first DLC to the game ages ago.
Yeah, for real. I also feel like thinkerer wouldn't be too hard to add to a perk, you could simply write a function that checks if the perk is being used and if it is then add 10% (or whatever amount they chose). I really think it was mostly balance theory crafting that caused it to go away.
They wouldn't have had to hand pick every perk and manually apply Tinkerer, they just would have had to add a "charge time addon" tag and check for that instead, and apply this tag to every subsequent addon, which would only be a one time thing for each addon.
This. Either BHVR is as actually bad at coding as ppl claim, or these ppl have never written code before. It is not hard, at all, to retroactively do such things, ESPECIALLY if you're working with OOP. 🤦♂️

The first version of ds was actually one of the worst perks in the entire game becacuse it specifically required you to be obsession to work correctly. I think the one you mentioned is the 2 or 3rd rework of the perk that they did. The original was awful because if 2 people is running it, there cannot be 2 obsessions, so one can use it immediately (and lose it for the rest of the game because it was a one time save at any given point that had no prerequisites to be usable besides being downed for the first time) and the other had to reach I think 40% of wiggle progress before the skillcheck appears. Even for the obsession though it was counterable because you can only have an obsession if one of Laurie's perks was used on someone and I think for the original and first rework of the perk, the killer can just pick up and drop the survivor all the way to the hook, because the ds thing was a completely seperate minigame that didn't reward wiggle progress when they were dropped. It took a while for the devs to make it usable for survivors but failed to make it actually fair.

@@NotSydridz Okay what was wrong with the first version of boon circle of healing? Because being able to heal yourself and others wasn't a big deal at all. 🤨
@TheMegatron673 it was the fact that only one person needed to bring it for every single person to have access to 100% self heal speed, which essentially meant that as long as it was up there was 0 worry for being injured, the killer never knew where it was and if they did find it another one will just sprout up. It kinda made the game less team oriented since the only time you needed to rely on other people were unhooks, kinda defeating the point of a team game.
@@NotSydridz Yeah but even before the nerf, selfcare was still slow as hell for healing yourself. I used to bring resilience, bottany knowledge and selfcare and it still seemed like it took forever. But once boon circle of healing came out I ditched selfcare all together. And don't get me started on how they nuked ironwill and bottany currently.
I’m ngl, tinkerer working on some of trapper’s Addons actually kinda makes sense. Let me explain. He tinkered with his traps to make them harder to disable 👍🏻
Man, they finally nerfed blights speed add-ons, if they would do such a perk again it would kinda nullify that change back to the old right? Pls dont 😂
I think people are more concerned about the version of Tinkerer that grants Undetectable. But I'm staunchly opposed to the majority opinion. Tinkerer was fine before it was nerfed. It can happen infinite times on a gen. So what? The killer can't be everywhere at once. That is why info is a non-issue. People complained about the old Freddy build with slowdown add-ons (what, 15% max?), Ruin (just cleanse it), and Tinkerer. At the end of the day, he was an M1 killer, a non-issue. And if he was the biggest killer that this perk was an issue with, then it was in a fine spot. Freddy has to commit to the teleport to actually have pressure on that gen. If he's faking it, you just run right back on. I see no reason why, right now, we can't just have un-nerfed Tinkerer back. It definitely wouldn't be S tier, because of all the power creep that's happened.
Old tinkerer was fine until ruin got updated and undying got released, so you'd have blights that just sprint at mach 3 to every generator as soon as it gets low on progress, force you off, ruin takes it below the threshold, rinse and repeat.
tinkerer used to activate every single time a generator hit a certain amount. So the Blight would be able to use the speed of his rush to damage the gen progress to make the tinkerer effect essentially infinite (since survivors could never get progress above the threshold)- Following this (happening across many killers, not just Blight), they changed the perk to only activate once per-generator to stop the broken spamming@@JackErica19
tinkerer needs a buff to reward killers for saving the gen in time. they need to change it so it has 2 charges for each gen! back in the past it was infinite. but killers need to be rewarded for saving the gen. on top of that new gen system you can only kick the gens so many times now! tinker needs to be buffed its TRASH to many times you can't make it on time with certain killers on big maps but its 100% useless when multiple gens pop it needs a rework/ buff.

Damn we came along way from Zimbabwe bubba
Why’d you delete all your old videos :(
I’m ngl, tinkerer working on some of trapper’s Addons actually kinda makes sense. Let me explain.
He tinkered with his traps to make them harder to disable 👍🏻
i miss old decisive and hex ruin :(
Sam B as background music? Based my man
I was looking for a comment to confirm this 😂
What perks didn’t break the game back then
Considering survivors get 5 or 6 perks, and killers only get 4, killer perks should buffed.
It definitely wouldn't be S tier, because of all the power creep that's happened.
did things need to change
Insta rev was healthy and it needs to be reverted
as a bad dbd player ngl i miss the old DS 💀
zimbabwe bubba part 9 when?
Old tinkerer was fine until ruin got updated and undying got released, so you'd have blights that just sprint at mach 3 to every generator as soon as it gets low on progress, force you off, ruin takes it below the threshold, rinse and repeat.
Bring back Zimbabwe bubba videos
Oi Amor 0:06
before it got nerfed into oblivion, blight players would constantly abuse it lmao
Blight came out wayyyyyyyyyy after tinkerer was changed
Or are you talking abt something else?
tinkerer used to activate every single time a generator hit a certain amount. So the Blight would be able to use the speed of his rush to damage the gen progress to make the tinkerer effect essentially infinite (since survivors could never get progress above the threshold)-
Following this (happening across many killers, not just Blight), they changed the perk to only activate once per-generator to stop the broken spamming@@JackErica19
tinkerer needs a buff to reward killers for saving the gen in time. they need to change it so it has 2 charges for each gen! back in the past it was infinite. but killers need to be rewarded for saving the gen. on top of that new gen system you can only kick the gens so many times now! tinker needs to be buffed its TRASH to many times you can't make it on time with certain killers on big maps but its 100% useless when multiple gens pop it needs a rework/ buff.
Yay Ardetha :)

They fixed it by nerfing the pig
