Before they retired the splinters I collected some before I bought the DLCs. I then levelled up the splintered killers that I then owned. While I wasn't able to acquire more splinters after buying the killers, I was still able to use the splinters I had already collected. This allowed me to use one of the rarest and now unnecessary tactics in the game. Back then, if a survivor died they got to see the killer's entire build, which gave SWFs all the intel. If I used a splinter, I would load into the match with the build I had equipped on my already leveled splintered killer, but the first dead survivor only gets to see the killer the splinter was used on. I used this tactic to great success in a grand total of one game.
Another reason I think Splinters were removed was because they would CONSTANTLY pop up in high level bloodwebs, so if a player decided to not buy a Paid DLC, they would still be forced to either buy it in the bloodweb or just ignore it, but even ignoring it was an issue because instead of getting a splinter, you could of had a iridescent addon or an ebony mori.
I heard that they were bundling, but I didn't realize that they were removing individual DLC. I thought they were adding the option of bundling since there are like 30 DLCs or something now. That's pretty shitty.
@@russellfitzgerald2957 yeah I forgot about the 1/2 off bit as well. I was more saying that it seems like people are worried you can only buy the bundles and not individual characters which is what ardetha seems to think as well.
You will still be able to buy them individually at half the old price via auric cells and shards, but Ardetha somehow decided to omit that very important part. 250 Auric cells per character, so for 2000 you're getting 8 charactes, which is the same price as the bundle but you're not getting the extra cosmetics, which most people don't care about anyway. This is overall a win for any player ever, especially f2p players. Ardetha presented this vastly too negative
I think bundles are an improvement given that the prices for the included characters are halved, both for iri shards and auric cells. If you want Doctor then just buy Doctor, currently you have to buy Doctor and Feng, so your case still stands even now so in that regard nothing changes you would still spend money on something you didn't want and with the new cost it is a lot more economical to buy them with cells, only disadvantage is that you won't get exclusive cosmetics. For the record, the price of characters for auric cells makes so buying the bundle will cost you the same as buying auric cells for each individual character, meaning the only reason to buy the bundle would be for the cosmetics, if you don't care about them then just buy cells and characters with them, and also as bonus if there is an event going then you can get some exclusive cosmetic for buying auric cells.
My first ever Myers, Pig and Bubba matches where through splinters. I scored a 4k on gas heaven with myers that one day. I bought the chapters a short while after testing these characters. I miss this feature so so so much
The fact I feel buying the chapter individually is better but at the same time is worst because you won't get the special rewards cosmetics from the chapter since you are just buying an individual character.
Splinters are something I haven't really experienced as an OG player, because I bought all the dlcs as soon as they came out (there were relatively cheap even for a teen's budget), it was nice to learn about them. There was a time when they were bugged and they showed up in my bloodweb eventhough I already had unlocked them before hand. That was the only time I ve seen them in game.
That's total BS though, the bundles are on the steam store, however in the in game store all characters could still be purchased individually for cells or shards at a discounted rate
splinters were amazing. Allowed us to try out killers before buying them. If they were still in the game I wouldn't have bought blight (I'm on console).
I can’t believe I forgot about splinter offerings. I remember I had one on Myers for Bubba and at the end of the match someone said they were surprised to see a splinter offering because they thought it was a mori since splinter offerings were secret ones.
i basically knew this would be about splinters from the title but the first few minutes of the video being just doom and gloom about BHVR actually FINALLY doing anything to improve the way the DLCs work is very frustrating, hearing people constantly complain about the monetization strategies just to complain when they finally improve it. you can literally just get the character from the in game store for $2.50 if you only want doctor which is a significant improvement, the in game store is being massively improved alongside options for people who DO want all the characters. there is not a downside. sidenote about how wrong you are about people likely not wanting ace, there are so many ace players.
I still have the bone splinter on my wraith which was funny to me knowing that I could of bubba whenever I was working but decided not to use it because I never knew when to actually use it.
Honestly dont hate it. If you want the survivor or killer you buy 5$ Of auric cells and get the single character you want. If yoh get these bundles on sale, they actually have some good stuff in them. Plus i boight DLCs individually before and it really sucked tbh.
When I told my friends about this the way both of them were shocked is hilarious to me. I have the separate chapters and refuse to buy any of these packs.
There is a reason why the licensed chapters cost money. They cannot have them in the game without. All licenses need payment and not a one time payment at that, which means they can’t keep giving free dlc’s because it makes it impossible for them to have licenses. Also the splinters where really buggy, not effective due to what you said about the perks and addons, and if they where to keep them in they would need to add another one every single dlc released which is a lot of work not to mention the problems with the spagheti code.
Netease dbd mobile has survivor/killer tickets which let you use an unlicensed character for 24 hours. You won't have their addons but you will have the ability to use perks and can even prestige them in this time frame. It feels more a remnant of identity v than splinters, but it's still nice to see somewhat of a return
I remember seeing a couple of these in action- mainly Freddy ones because people wouldn't know how his old sleep mechanic worked and wondered why they couldn't hurt survivors. So we would just do gens while we heard him *Shing* *Shing* *Shing* at us for a couple minutes before disconnecting.
Bundle characters will be available for auric cells in game at a reduced price as well (only 250) so people who want to purchase individual characters can still do that. Seeing games with like 40 DLCs totalling up to over $200 is a huge turn off for new players who may feel like they have to pay an insane amount of money to experience the full game So taking a absolute ton of the older character and bundling them and lowering their price is a good move to make the game more enticing to new players by reducing the number of DLCs the game has as well as the price to get everything.
Fun fact: the splinter offerings do actually still exist in the mobile version of dead by daylight, in the form of tickets, killer tickets and survivor tickets each have 2 different rarities common and gold tickets, common tickets allows you to play a survivor or killer for 12 hours and the golden ticket allows you to play any survivor or killer for 24 hours note that these tickets won’t work on licensed killers or survivors but is a good way for new players to test out any character they want and also allows you to use perks but no addons as yet you haven’t unlocked that specific character.
One small thing about the splinters, if you collected them for a killer you don't have, get the killer, equip a loadout on the killer and then play a different killer with that offering. The item end-game screen would show the perks/addons and items of the original killer and not the splinter kille
The best new ever is the iri shard price being cut by half because i'm finding the game quite boring playing with like the 7 character i have for now so after the iri shard reduction i will start playing the game again but anyways nice vid
i feel like splinters should come back as a "try before you buy" on each killer's character screen. like if you wanted to buy a killer, right under the 500 cells buy option, there would be a try button, which would load you into a bot game where everyone has no perks. after the game ends, your try token for that kill would be used, and you would not be able to try the killer again.
I completely forgot these existed. I remember back when they were removed. I saved so many of them, just to end up not being able to use them when I wanted to.
arent they gonna be 250 Auric Cells through the store now as well? So if you want Feng Min you can buy Feng Min without googling what Chapter she came in, and it'll be cheaper than before Plus the recent survey mentioned characters not transfering via DLC purchases but will if bought in game with shards or cells when it comes to cross progression So buying em in store will be more convenient and streamlined
First of all, im an old school dbd player, playing the game since early 2017. I have every dlc in the game and i have them all the way since today, last year and a half i was spending money only on licenced killers and purchasing every other dlc with shards… since may 2018 and clown chapter, making dlcs every 3 months feels so f ing forced and sometimes lead to badly designed work… love the video!!! I still have some splinters on my myers, hag and doctor:)))
the new bundles feature is like that one infamous eshop scams when a new battlepass in some games cost 1000 special currency but the eshop only offer 300, 900 and 2900 of special currency it's really scummy
I was scared that the characters that'd be 50% off in January would disappear, making ut impossible to buy them with shards, but after I read some comments, my soul came back to my body.
Always nice to learn about the history of the game as someone new to Dbd. It's been a while since I last heard Power of Determination to Stand, now I want to listen to my favorites themes from Mirai Nikki again
They're going to someday make "the last breath" and "lullaby of the dark" locked behind a paywall and charge people money to play the respective characters (even those who originally had them) *just watch*
IDV still does something like this, but they have a free character rotation- and for the canonical birthday OR release date of each character in the game they are free to play as well.
Its funny you know, cuz most people get some killer not for their gameplay, but their perks lol Like, Artist? Nah, I just want pain res Few killers are actually a good reasik to buy and play them, like Blight because Blight, or Myers because its a fun killer
Same, I bought Hag for Ruin, tho sadly it was right when Ruin was nerfed. But I did buy Legion as my first shard killer for Discordance and Iron Maiden
When I read the title I immediately knew it was the old Splinters. I only ever use a splinter once, and it was for Myers. Had so much fun I actually bought Michael Myers shortly after that match lol
Honestly, even tho the game is completely different to how it was back then, I think it would be cool to see the splinters offerings still in the game, but they only happen for like a week before going away for every time there's a new chapter/DLC but you get the opportunity to play with one of their own addons
i feel like what they could do instead is when they release a new killer on live servers they could give everyone access to the new killer for a short limited time or have X amount of uses so ppl can first hand experience if they like the killer or not before they purchase
this feels super misleading you can still buy each character individually and for half price too they are removing the 2 character packs (hag + ace, doc + feng etc) in favor of these bigger bundles BUT every character in the bundles can still be purchased seperately and since they are all half off its cheaper now since before it was around 5 pounds for a dlc pack but now since its only 500 cells it will be 3.75
i think honestly just letting you try the killer something like 3 times before you buy, with all 3 of their perks on and one you have unlocked/maybe any one unlocked. It would allow people to try the killer with any build and truly wanna buy the dlcs just so they can build it.
I feel like maybe bhvr could take inspiration from dbd moblie tickets which allow you to play any survivor or killer for 24 or 6 hours this only bad thing about the moblie verison tickets is that they can only be used for non licensed survivors and killers but maybe they could make the tickets also work for licensed survivors and killers
Hi, I am a fellow mobile player, The tickets working on licenced would be amazing! But they won't gonna add that since during our trial play with tickets you also earn lvls for ur chracter and Behaviour won't agree with us getting free licenced perks
@@thepiIlow yeah that's the unfortunate thing but tickets are still good regardless because they allow you to use a character for free and get their perks
it's actually getting better for the consumer. characters will have their prices halved and it looked bad for BHVR to have 40 dlcs with prices up to 200$. it would downward new players.
I remember back when I first joined DBD soon after Michael Myers' release and used the black splinter to try him out and I honestly it was a pretty nice feature but I understand why it got removed. I swear old DBD in 2016-2019 era was such a fever dream lol

Here in Brazil it is a crime to sell anything locked behind a bundle, all products must be individually purchasable in the market. There was a similar drama with League of Legends when they were selling Arcane characters icons locked in bundles with all their skins, meanwhile here we could get them individually.
Splinters got tossed because they were bugged. That was one I reported on the forums myself, but I don't know if I'm the reason it was removed. If you equipped a Splinter of any kind, played a match and returned to the menu, the game would set your killer to be the one you played with the splinter. You were then able to upgrade your bloodweb, prestige and unlock teachables with a killer you did not own.
1:00 This is the worst take I've heard. Ah yes, I much prefer having to buy everyone individually, costing me $45, instead of getting them all for $20. You can still purchase individual characters, AT A PERMANENT DISCOUNT, with Auric Cells. So if you only want Doctor, guess what? He's now half the price and cheaper then ever, but if you want a bundle, that's also cheaper then ever! There is no downside here. L take.
A good alternative to the shrine would be just to let us play and level up a survivor and killer for a week. That would let people try them before buying and it would let people get the perks without actually spending money.
These bundles are all about squeezing more money out of new players. Nobody wants the hag or her perks so the only way to make money off of her is this bundle. Most of the good perks are locked behind licensed characters anyways, so these bundles are pretty much worthless in the long term.
As far as I’m aware you’ve been able to either buy them with auric cells or real money for a while, but a lot of people still just get them with Iri shards. And the price is getting slashed in January so we have that.
Bro complaining about anything at this point lmao. No one bought iridescent shards characters with real money anymore, now with a 19.99 bundle not only they get A LOT of characters, but also the exclusive items. Like the example you did with doctor, if you want to buy doctor, farm 4500 shards because January all killers until plague will go half irishards forever. Stop complaining about useful changes
As much as I'd like to see Splinter offerings come back, I don't see that happening especially with how matchmaking works now. Remember, back then you could switch your Killer on the lobby screen. While the lobby change happened after Deathslinger's release, it really makes it awkward to try and shoehorn a "try before you buy" offering into how the game is set up now. I'd be perfectly fine if they moved that option into the KYF section. You can always "try" with bots and get a good taste of the perks and add-ons too and see if you want to buy them still.
I only just now discovered that you have to pay for the base roster characters (Doctor, hag, etc) back when I got the game in like (2017-2018) I got all of them for free, I thought they were just free characters.
The correct solution is to keep the individual packages on the Steam store, along with the bundles, while also remembering that they're available in store as standalone 5 dollar purchases per character. Not my place to judge or question how or why people purchase their characters, but providing all forms of options is fine unless it makes the purchasing experience confusing. (Like MMO expansions can be confusing to purchase, or some store fronts being difficult to navigate.)
I think if they gave everyone 3 free splinters of a dlc character of your choice, that’d be pretty good, so if you wanted to try Bubba, Myers, and idk Chucky or something, you could try all of them, or just try Chucky three times
kinda glad my friend got me the DBD Gold edition because he wanted me to play with him on PC and i feel like Gold Edition is the best way to get most of the base killers and survivors
I do think splinters could come back, but in a different. They would still make you turn into a dlc character whenever you use one, but you would load into the game with their teachable perks. I do think it would be more forgiving for the killer and it would probably provide a better experience with x killer. I also never heard of these Splinters, mainly because I never played character back in the day. But it's a really cool idea that they had, shame it had to go.
my problem with bundles is that in each of them is 2 dlc i already have and 2 i don't so if i want to buy it i still have to pay full price and it's like paying 2nd time for dlc i already bought before. Ofc i could still buy them by auric or shards in shop but that way i won't get cosmetics (and it was the only reason why i was buying dlc instead of using shards). When i started playing dbd i rushed to buy feng by shards bc i had not enough money for dlc and as baby surv i was desperate to get technician so i don't have cosmetic for her and regret it to this day :(
they shouldve either gave the stranger things characters new perks and everyone keeps their original ones as base perks or make new base perks to replace the ones now lost
I think they should return this feature, but not as splinters. You should be able to try a licensed killer up to 3 times (as you can have bad matches) before you need to buy them. you could also make the try outs cost some BP or a small amount of shards (500) too.
I wish we would atleast get them for the anniversarys back as a gift that the Game is Alive for that long. Now with the announced FNAF Chapter comming this anniversary it would be Perfect because it´s very likely that this is going to be the Peak Player Count that DBD every had and letting the new Players play with the FNAF Characters or when they also like ohter Horror Francises than they can Try it and maybe get really into the Game

If I used a splinter, I would load into the match with the build I had equipped on my already leveled splintered killer, but the first dead survivor only gets to see the killer the splinter was used on. I used this tactic to great success in a grand total of one game.
LOL
Ima be honest, I started playing dbd when the first summer event update came out, and I have never heard of the splinters until now
Same
i have them unactive on some killers, idk how but i got pig and freddy for free after using their splinters in a match
bro u so lucky@@savq553
I never got splinters because I always got DLCs from Day 1. More of a Completionist thing, but if I would do that today, I had to pay over 500 bucks
You can buy the individual characters for the same price though. You just can't buy chapter dlcs
Not really, they are discounting them massively which lets you grind twice as easy for the killers now
@@russellfitzgerald2957 yeah I forgot about the 1/2 off bit as well.
@@mr24coja yeah I agree
I miss this feature so so so much
I recognise the track starting 9:10, it’s Mirai Nikki Sixth Battle Theme
The fact I feel buying the chapter individually is better but at the same time is worst because you won't get the special rewards cosmetics from the chapter since you are just buying an individual character.
but those cosmetics never were a big thing anyway so it's not really a big loss ig
Apparently that isn't a bug, as splinters would use the loadout of the character if you owned the character. No idea why...
BHVR stated that the characters in the bundles will still be available for Iridescent Shards and Auric cells, and will be permanently half off.
i basically knew this would be about splinters from the title but the first few minutes of the video being just doom and gloom about BHVR actually FINALLY doing anything to improve the way the DLCs work is very frustrating, hearing people constantly complain about the monetization strategies just to complain when they finally improve it. you can literally just get the character from the in game store for $2.50 if you only want doctor which is a significant improvement, the in game store is being massively improved alongside options for people who DO want all the characters. there is not a downside. sidenote about how wrong you are about people likely not wanting ace, there are so many ace players.
I still have the bone splinter on my wraith which was funny to me knowing that I could of bubba whenever I was working but decided not to use it because I never knew when to actually use it.
Honestly not paying a Surv 9k Iri shards is a step in the right direction
Honestly dont hate it. If you want the survivor or killer you buy 5$ Of auric cells and get the single character you want. If yoh get these bundles on sale, they actually have some good stuff in them. Plus i boight DLCs individually before and it really sucked tbh.
I had completely FORGOTTEN about the offerings that let you sample new characters you didn't own yet. Blew my mind seeing that blast from the past.
They also cut the iridecent shards price for non licensed characters. So thats not a big deal.
And when you prestige a character on Mobile you get auric cells. Which is nice.
When is it getting cut tho?
@@J-Harrald Approximately January 8th or 12th
I wish they just did a year one, year two, year three etc bundle and kept the ability to buy dlcs separately
you can still do it for a cheaper price with auric cells since every character will have their price reduced from 500 to 250 auric cells.
i feel like splinters should come back as a "try before you buy" on each killer's character screen. like if you wanted to buy a killer, right under the 500 cells buy option, there would be a try button, which would load you into a bot game where everyone has no perks. after the game ends, your try token for that kill would be used, and you would not be able to try the killer again.
I completely forgot these existed. I remember back when they were removed. I saved so many of them, just to end up not being able to use them when I wanted to.
I still have my myers splinter in my huntress inventory, my buddy asked about it and i had my "well back in my day" moment.
arent they gonna be 250 Auric Cells through the store now as well? So if you want Feng Min you can buy Feng Min without googling what Chapter she came in, and it'll be cheaper than before
Plus the recent survey mentioned characters not transfering via DLC purchases but will if bought in game with shards or cells when it comes to cross progression
So buying em in store will be more convenient and streamlined
There are pros and cons here but I mostly see pros. I think they wanted to help us but it’s really expensive. Idk this is really confusing
auric cells price and iridescent shards price are getting reduced permanently so...
I still have some splinters on my myers, hag and doctor:)))
the new bundles feature is like that one infamous eshop scams when a new battlepass in some games cost 1000 special currency but the eshop only offer 300, 900 and 2900 of special currency
it's really scummy
I was scared that the characters that'd be 50% off in January would disappear, making ut impossible to buy them with shards, but after I read some comments, my soul came back to my body.
I forgot about the splinters but they were indeed a cool feature
Always nice to learn about the history of the game as someone new to Dbd.
It's been a while since I last heard Power of Determination to Stand, now I want to listen to my favorites themes from Mirai Nikki again
I guess their idea of Splinters was "Test out the Killer" which now the PTB does
holy shit i had completely forgot about splinters, i remember using them a bunch to play doctor and pig
They're going to someday make "the last breath" and "lullaby of the dark" locked behind a paywall and charge people money to play the respective characters (even those who originally had them)
*just watch*
IDV still does something like this, but they have a free character rotation- and for the canonical birthday OR release date of each character in the game they are free to play as well.
Its funny you know, cuz most people get some killer not for their gameplay, but their perks lol
Like, Artist? Nah, I just want pain res
Few killers are actually a good reasik to buy and play them, like Blight because Blight, or Myers because its a fun killer
I have no idea what this video's main point actually was lol
Bad feeling that Behavior is becoming more corporate. Something like that.
it's actually getting better for the consumer. characters will have their prices halved and it looked bad for BHVR to have 40 dlcs with prices up to 200$. it would downward new players.
I remember back when I first joined DBD soon after Michael Myers' release and used the black splinter to try him out and I honestly it was a pretty nice feature but I understand why it got removed. I swear old DBD in 2016-2019 era was such a fever dream lol
One thing to mention. You didn't technically start "without perks", you just started with perks that were equipped on a character the Splinter would turn you into. And since you are most likely do not own the character, it's uncustomised, so no perks equipped.
However, if you used a Splinter of a character you already owned, the game would start with the loadout of the character you turned into, rather than the loadout of the character you used a splinter with.
Damn I didn't realize they were in the game for so long, I would have guessed they were gone with Spirit.
I remember splinters. I still have splinters on my wraith for Myers and Freddy
Just remember that ardetha had to play skull merchant to get this background footage. My condolences.
Earned a dislike for sure :D
Funny thing is that hag and doctor are free on console
Here in Brazil it is a crime to sell anything locked behind a bundle, all products must be individually purchasable in the market. There was a similar drama with League of Legends when they were selling Arcane characters icons locked in bundles with all their skins, meanwhile here we could get them individually.
I saw these in the PlayStation store and I was confused about why the bundles were there and now I get it
Splinters got tossed because they were bugged.
L take.
Seriously. DbD players just try to make up something to be angry at.
A good alternative to the shrine would be just to let us play and level up a survivor and killer for a week. That would let people try them before buying and it would let people get the perks without actually spending money.
“We have read the reviews of this new update, and due to this, we have decided to nerf the pig”
These bundles are all about squeezing more money out of new players. Nobody wants the hag or her perks so the only way to make money off of her is this bundle.
Most of the good perks are locked behind licensed characters anyways, so these bundles are pretty much worthless in the long term.
as the prices in auric cells and iridescent shards being halved, there is no way they are just squeezing new players
I remember getting most of the og killers for free when did they start charging?
As far as I’m aware you’ve been able to either buy them with auric cells or real money for a while, but a lot of people still just get them with Iri shards. And the price is getting slashed in January so we have that.
Bro complaining about anything at this point lmao.
No one bought iridescent shards characters with real money anymore, now with a 19.99 bundle not only they get A LOT of characters, but also the exclusive items.
Like the example you did with doctor, if you want to buy doctor, farm 4500 shards because January all killers until plague will go half irishards forever.
Stop complaining about useful changes
Isnt Ardetha that bubba from the Ayrun video who was doing demonic chanting
correct
As much as I'd like to see Splinter offerings come back, I don't see that happening especially with how matchmaking works now. Remember, back then you could switch your Killer on the lobby screen. While the lobby change happened after Deathslinger's release, it really makes it awkward to try and shoehorn a "try before you buy" offering into how the game is set up now.
I'd be perfectly fine if they moved that option into the KYF section. You can always "try" with bots and get a good taste of the perks and add-ons too and see if you want to buy them still.
2:09 Me and my weird aah who just wanted clown and not spirit or doc 💀
I only just now discovered that you have to pay for the base roster characters (Doctor, hag, etc) back when I got the game in like (2017-2018) I got all of them for free, I thought they were just free characters.
when did he start using his inside voice? I wanna watch a special needs bubba gameplay
You can still spend $5 in the store with auric cells. These bundles save a ton of money
I wish they had made these bundles years ago lol I bought every dlc separately😢
The correct solution is to keep the individual packages on the Steam store, along with the bundles, while also remembering that they're available in store as standalone 5 dollar purchases per character.
Not my place to judge or question how or why people purchase their characters, but providing all forms of options is fine unless it makes the purchasing experience confusing. (Like MMO expansions can be confusing to purchase, or some store fronts being difficult to navigate.)
I think if they gave everyone 3 free splinters of a dlc character of your choice, that’d be pretty good, so if you wanted to try Bubba, Myers, and idk Chucky or something, you could try all of them, or just try Chucky three times
jokes on you, i bought the ultimate edition and got all of them
The 1M pallets joke was great made me do a spit take RIP OLD AUTOHAVEN 25+ pallets
I still have splinters offerings on a few killers
I'm just glad that the iri shard prices are being discounted in fucking half
kinda glad my friend got me the DBD Gold edition because he wanted me to play with him on PC and i feel like Gold Edition is the best way to get most of the base killers and survivors
I remember the offerings looking back at it i thought it was a fever dream but i had a clip of using the splinter offerings
Halloween has been used in video game crossovers before like Call of Duty Ghosts
They should do more of those community challenges for like a cool skin or something like that
I do think splinters could come back, but in a different.
If I could recall splinters were removed because of an exploit that allowed for infinite splinters.
Idk it’s basically a yearly pass now , it’s wayyy easier to buy a bundle of killers/survivors than to buy separate DLCs .
my problem with bundles is that in each of them is 2 dlc i already have and 2 i don't so if i want to buy it i still have to pay full price and it's like paying 2nd time for dlc i already bought before.
Look if they had just said "we did the bundles in order to ensure that there is greater killer diversity by way of attaching popular killers to the less popular ones"
I would respect that.
