To this very exhaustive essay, I would like to add a little thing. Deep Wound received one more change before becoming what we know today, and that change happened during The Demise of The Faithful mid-chapter, when Legion got their first rework. During that period, in order to counter the killers running backwards exploit, Deep Wound was changed so that the timer would not go down while in the killer's terror radius. The mechanic got then scapped and changed to what we know today because of two things: a new status effect introduced with The Demogorgon, Oblivious, and one of the Oni's perks, Nemesis, which made it so that survivors would become oblivious after stunning/blinding a killer, which basically made the game consided them as outside the terror radius, making the old "run backwards" strat come back. After that, Deep Wound got changed and now functions as we know today
I actually thought they never changed that and always believed in was in the terror radius and whenever I left it I immediately started healing the deep wound. 1800 hours by the way
Also to add to that the Freddy rework had came around recently. So Freddy could just ignore the entire mechanic because getting hit would remove his terror radius and the clocks didnt stop any attempt at going to sleep
@@jaspertyler4557 not even that, they cried killer bias when it was first attempted to be balanced (while things like 100% plus self heal boon totem still existed lol).

Be glad you're new. I started in 2018 and missed some of the most egregious stuff, but there's still a lot I look back on from then and I'm like "how TF did I have fun playing Killer?" It is fun to list off the various BS that's been changed since 2017, though, just to see how much the game has actually improved (despite all the complaints to the contrary). Instant BNPs. Instant syringes that healed 2 health states (and were purple, iirc) and instant styptics that healed a single health state (and were green, I think). Hooking, grab interrupts, and trap setting (for Hag and Trapper) animatios were slower. You couldn't kick or regress gens and even when that was added regression from kicks would always stop after 25% progress loss. Old Ruin skill checks requiring you to hit Greats all the time just to not lose progress on the gen. Mories that worked without needing to hook anyone. Double windows in shack. Insta blinds. Vacuum pallets. Self Care was 80% of normal healing speed, which was only 12 seconds at the time. Sabotaged hooks never respawned, making it possible to sabo every hook except Basement and then be nigh unlikable with No Mither. Trapper's traps could be Sabo'd and disabled for 3 minutes. Way way more pallets everywhere as the devs designed the game expecting something more like hide and seek, not tag. And just so many things that are slipping my mind right now.
Sometimes you can't blame the Killer, you don't know what happened beforehand. Maybe the Survivor was being toxic, maybe they were mad because they got blinded one trillion times by the Survivor.

I didn’t realize that borrowed time became a base kit feature, and finding this video and it’s intro actually made me feel calmer and less angry about some of the rare instances where a survivor got away because of borrowed time.
Hey Ardetha been watching you for about a year on and off as a kind of teacher for killer. These videos are fun and really interesting to see especially since i started playing in 2020. Congrats on your recent success and keep them coming! Your narration is really good so even if people copy you, they probably won't be as engaging, I recommended you try other games too if you feel like branching out. Take care!
Another thing that made old bully squads even more effective. I haven't played DBD in years but played SWF with friends a lot back when. Three of us were average, but our fourth was a consistent Rank 1 when he grinded for it. He was always the dedicated runner because the rest of us weren't as good, but due to so many other squads having essentially 4 identical builds instead of set roles, they would stick to our Rank 1 runner all game and never try to go for any of us (who in actuality they could easily bloodlust and down). We knew we were the outlier and we could throw our one good runner at them and they'd spend the whole match getting dunked on rather than ever just try to kill another person.
I don't understand after all these years you don't have 100k subs when you deserve so much more. You've actually done a lot for the community, especially in 2018. Keep up the great content.

Before they changed Deep Wound to stop regressing while sprinting it only stopped while inside the killers terror radius. Inside freddys dream world you were oblivious and not considered inside his terror radius despite being in a chase so he could easily abuse this by simply chasing you normally and you would eventually go down without any form of counterplay.
I remember playing with old BT and old DS and DH just came out. People complained about me being a basement trapper when they had busted perks. Hook in basement, trap all entrances, head for far side of map to chase off gems, head back when I hear the traps get disarmed. No BT to deal with, and if they were too slow you get two kills. It was the only way to get solid kills at rank 1 back then.
Back in the day when this, DS and the very beginning of Mettle of Man were all stacked, I stopped playing for a while. Pair those with medkits and you'd have to hit one survivor like 5 times in a normal chase. And they would STILL get mad when you brought NOED.
Does the Zero Myer's build still work. If so it can be overpowered as hell. Play with your food, monitor and abuse, hex ruin and save the best for last. Add on's boyfriends memory, and scratch mirror. Zero terror radius out of chase and wall hacks give no room to hide. I have wiped out the survives and caused multiple DC's with this build. Even with spine chill as long as you don't directly look at gens you can creep up on them.
I believe 5 Blink Nurse back then was the only Killer to counter all of this. Back in 2017, I remember hearing Nurse, I would be “Fuck, it’s Nurse!” I knew we were going to get wrecked.
5 Blink Nurse countered everything lol. Even to this day I dont even bother with Nurse matches, even though she isnt nearly as obnoxious as once upon a time.
it was kinda fun when you got hit with old bt activated then the killer lost line of sight and you just sneaked into a locker. half of the time they couldnt figure out where you went
Great video man, but You forgot the period of time between mending going down in chase and mending going down sprinting is that mending worked on out of terror radius so you would legions would run perks dark devotion and chased survivors while they were bleeding out but that’s probably for your old legion video you probably have the pipeline;)
I miss the reference of l4d that BT had when you got hit, the black and white filter being like, dont get down again or ur dead like in the l4d games. Idk why nowadays for everything they had to put a HUD that covers a lot of screen
The most annoying thing in the world is hooking someone, some surv running up and unhooking right as you move to walk away, then having the unhooked surv bodyblock you because they had BT
While watching the video, I felt a weird gap from the 4 min mark to 13 minute mark, I do agree that BT was not as "consistent" with stealth killers. I do remember BT only working with "Terror radius" and Freddy at the time technically didnt have a "terror radius" he had the lullaby thing and it just nullifed BT entirely. I do agree it was bully squad era with most people running mostly BT and DS, an exhaustion perk, unbreakable/adrenaline, maybe one person with object or sabo. Still remember content creators like Otz having blood pressure run high when "bully squads" or "meta squads" rolled in yelling "THEY HAD UNBREAKABLE/ADRENALINE!?". During that era and now, I think we can agree the issue with BHVR trying to help "anti-tunnel" was that it wasn't "anti-tunnel" it was "second chance perks" and the community just took full advantage of it.
Oh shit. I didn’t know borrowed time became base kit. I recently REALLY came back for the first time since pyramid head’s release. I’m absolutely loving the game and trying to replace my main because I switched consoles. As much as I miss Demo, I absolutely adore Pinhead. There’s so much stuff I’ve missed. Your videos have been helping me a lot so I appreciate you.
I love watching your videos! I think bt is fine base kit. If a killer wants to tunnel me.. they’re gonna do it unless my team takes aggro, and if im playing killer and you try to take a BT protection hits I’ll down you after. Its really not noticeable! Crazy to see how it developed over the years.
I still remember the good old days with my SWF when we debated "okay but who plays BT? We absolutely need BT." We'd put it in the same pool as DS, Unbreakable, Dead Hard, it was good times. But I like where it is now much better.
Edit: I forgot to add, but it wasnt survivors blinking through pallets, those were the classic old pallet vacuums BRO I REMEMBER THAT! when i first started playing during the 5th anniversary, i watched a shit ton of no0b3, and i remember them using bt for 2 people but i was new so i thought that was just bt we had at that time, but it wasn't lol. but thats so cool, i completely forgot about bt being absolutely overpowered, so many no0b3 videos of him playing in a swf had the best killer bulliers around, they would all just used oldest bt, oldest decisive, oldest dead hard, i remember. BRO THATS SO NOSTALGIC.
Hey Ardetha, one small critique with this video, I feel it bares mentioning just how strong Freddy was during the patch that by would only trigger in heartbeat. Due to his recent rework and new found power alongside his ability to ignore by completely, I think he should be mentioned next to wraith and pig.
i remember back when these bully squads were a thing they were hard but if i tunneled they couldnt blind me because hillbillys 3 perks were my saveing grace

“Was a survivor paradise” boi it still is a survivor paradise!
That Wesker was having a rough time lol

Guess some things never really change
Dbd seems to be the 1v4 genre's version of LoL, everyone has more bad memories than good, but they still keep playing
Anyone else feels old?
I've seen and experienced all these changes throughout playing. It feels so long ago but also as it was yesterday
I still remember the good old days with my SWF when we debated "okay but who plays BT? We absolutely need BT." We'd put it in the same pool as DS, Unbreakable, Dead Hard, it was good times. But I like where it is now much better.
The old black and white screen was sweet
The wesker in the background falling for every fakeout 💀💀💀💀💀
It'd be nice to see some clips of the old perks being used while he was describing them
Edit: I forgot to add, but it wasnt survivors blinking through pallets, those were the classic old pallet vacuums
BRO I REMEMBER THAT! when i first started playing during the 5th anniversary, i watched a shit ton of no0b3, and i remember them using bt for 2 people but i was new so i thought that was just bt we had at that time, but it wasn't lol. but thats so cool, i completely forgot about bt being absolutely overpowered, so many no0b3 videos of him playing in a swf had the best killer bulliers around, they would all just used oldest bt, oldest decisive, oldest dead hard, i remember.
The wesker at the start had me sweating just watching 💀
i remember back when these bully squads were a thing they were hard but if i tunneled they couldnt blind me because hillbillys 3 perks were my saveing grace
This is still in the game by the way, they just moved it to Circle of Healing with med kits and Adrenaline
