    You make me want to get some Higgins mill

    Thanks to this channel reviews, i picked up a pair of Higgins mill weatherproof last year. The heel is locked in, toebox is roomy with a toespring and the instep is tight. It’s my best fitting boot out of Grant Stone, Wolverine, red wing.
    Dalton is discontinued so if you want one, they’re getting bought up during the sale

    From my experience of owning a very large number of boots and shoes, the reason that footwear wrinkles (above a certain price point) is mostly down to how well they fit.
    Clicking (cutting of the hide into pieces of leather) is better with more expensive brands with only the best bits of the hide used but how well the shape of the boot fits your feet is far more relevant.
    You can have far higher quality leather boots than Allan Edmonds and still find you get lots of wrinkling because they don't fit you well enough. They may also still be comfortable but will have excess material at flex points (for example).
    I suspect the AE Daltons have creased less simply because they are your best fitting boot rather than because the leather is better than the Higgins Mill.

      Interesting. This is probably why the right boot wrinkles a bit more than the left boot. But looking at both Higgins Mill, the WP version seems to be wrinkling a lot more than the original standard version.

    I purchased my A.E. Higgins Mill thanks to your videos and shorts on them. I think that they sell their factory seconds during their discount sale, without telling the customer. 😅 I still kept mine, but no way that they are not factory seconds.
    Edit: Try duckworthco out of Montana or darntough out of vermont. Both brands make american made wool socks. These should help with your standard Higgins mill boots and maybe you can keep them. Also, I very much look forward to your ae captoe boots that you plan on purchasing. Those look great and they don't have the pull tag thingy on the back. Gratitude for these boot and how to dress videos.

    Looks like you are going to get the Landon boots before I do Tom. I am going to wait for a holiday or end of the year sale. I hope you do a review and tells us what you think. Thanks

    You should look at the Grant Stone Diesel's. They are the better version of the HM's. They are typically $395 with free shipping and it's super comfortable.

      I took a look. What turns me off is that they don't offer free returns, and I don't see any shops to try them on. I'd rather just spend the extra $100 for AEs, or just wait for a sale.

    All of my chromexel boots seem to run hotter than other leathers across different brands. Like others have said the darn tough socks helped me out on that front

    • @tommilano5431
      @tommilano5431  8 днів тому

      That's my experience as well. Both HMs I own, and my Thursday captains run hotter than my other shoes.

    If you don't like boots that wrinkle, get horsebutt leather for uppers. It tends to roll instead of wrinkle

    • @tommilano5431
      @tommilano5431  8 днів тому

      Horsebutt - Shell Cordovan? I considered that, but I don't like the super shine of shell. I prefer the calf leather to it and chromexel. Looks better to my eye.

    It’s the waterproofing that keeps the Higgins hot

    • @exee1
      @exee1 13 днів тому +1

      He is saying the opposite is happening, the waterproof ones breath better then the non. The downside for him is that the waterproof ones are wrinkling more, which he doesn't like.

    • @tommilano5431
      @tommilano5431  13 днів тому +1

      It is the Waterproof model that breathes better than the non WP model, but yes they wrinkle more making them look "cheap" especially for a pair of $500 boots.

    I nolonger buy allen edmonds since I ventured out to other boot companies and found that allen edmonds are way over price for what they offer compared to many other companies .

      I took a look at them. They look pretty sweat! A bit too high for my budget right now, and I don't love the grained leather. I would definitely try them and if they fit well, I might purchase.

    I'm neigh sure the Wolv 1000 Mile leather is any real difference of leather. Is still Chromexel Horween, so less shiny? Wingtips and broguing is actually NEIGH formal shoes. The current sorta excepty for this rule is actually become the Scottish Highland kilt outfit, where they are used for weddings and such in place of the "traditional" buckle brogue shoes formally more often now.
    Derby and Oxford options exist, but only the Oxford qualifies as "formal" shoes before we start talking about Opera Pumps and all that. These shown have open-lacing system, so e'en black won't quite get ye there in strictest terms.

      All these boots is just descended from hunting estate models from previous century, so is still mostly aristocratic casual wear that we consider "dressed-up", like shirts w' buttons on the collar and tweed jackets or whate'er.

      I had NO luck w' Allen Edm : Looks like they discontinued just about everything that might have tempted me.

      I said I wouldn't get the new Thirsty but then I got some on discount, but the toe box a smidge TOO WIDE perhaps since I also went up half size from the old toe killers that I got in the older narrow version a size too small. Um, they now has the waxed finish and still seem t' wrinkle plenty from only slight wear so far. But they were less than $200, right?

      I still prefer the President model in size and fit and look overall. The fake cap toe does nothing for me.

    • @Highland_Paddy
      @Highland_Paddy 13 днів тому

      Yes, chukka fit is more hit-miss. I have some cheap ones I wore a bit this summer for some walks, but I couldn't see hiking in them.

    The dumbest thing i hear men say , thursdays boots are value and you can buy say 3 boots or 2 boots instead of one 500 or 600 dollar boot , hey that 500 or 600 boot is so much better in all ways and will last very long plus it won't look like a cheap pair of boots as do thursdays captian ect.

    Cool haan was really good say about 10 years ago , now I don't know who own them because there shoes and boots are garbage . I see the people who enjoy these selections don't know boots and just getting there feet wet into the hobby , thursdays and Cole haan really bad boots .lol
