  • It can be pretty overwhelming deciding which lishi tools to get when you are starting to get into automotive. If you were like me and on a budget, there was no way I could get every single lishi tool. Instead of guessing and hoping you get the right ones, hopefully the information in this video will help guide you in the right direction.

First on, I’m deeply saddened to learn of your passing. Such a tragedy. I can’t express my appreciation enough. Your videos is what not
only gave me the confidence to venture into the world of locksmith, but also helped educate me and guide me in the right direction. This list is very accurate and a must have for anybody getting their foot in the door. I’m very grateful for your uploads and I’m very saddened to know there won’t be anymore 😢

i would pass on the TOY43 in my top10because all Toyotas use a modular lock in the door since 2004 and the lock body will unplug by just loosing the set screw with a torx driver at the side of the door then if your a locksmith you should know that the key code is stamped on the lock in the passenger door and if there is no passenger door lock it will be on the driver door lock. you don't have to pull any panels or mess with any lock rods. if you cant decode a key code and don't have any basic software to decode key codes to the depth cuts and spaces and you don't know this basic fact about Toyotas then you probably shouldn't possess the lishi tool because that would be a felony in my state if you're not a licensed locksmith. i agree with your first 8 but DAT17 for my 10th choice. I'll pass on that one too. my NSN15 can do most Subaru not all but most. I get a lot of house unlocks and in my area there's only about two keys that i see 90%of the time so I would get the KW1 and the SC1. Now you could get the ones that are for 6 pin locks and they will work on the 5 pin locks if you just back it out one space. and they have the one with the tension arm on the other side because the locks are sometimes installed upside down and you cant turn it with the arm on one side. just pop it off and use your finger tips for tension, it will pop off . i think the new design will allow the tension arm to come off with a set screw. if i was only doing automotive locksmithing i would probably go with the H60 and the H50 and H51 as my final two or i'd round out my GM selection with the TOY43R which will help with the GMC Cannon and Chevy Colorado and the Hummer series. After that I'd probably start working on collecting some of the other car series or motorcycles series or maybe add some of the readers that decode without picking so i would have an option to pick or notto pick if i have a lock that is just taking too long and the customer is one of those types that stands right in your line of sight or behind you and you can feel their laser beams called eyes and they are in a hurry and having an anxiety attack and they are trying to infect you with that anxiety . .

I think the toy43 ign is pretty useful. You can always get the code from the door lock, even earlier models arent that bad, but if the customer/previous owner has replaced ignition due to lost keys or ignition failure, then it saves you time and money and the customer a headache. Id rather lishi the ignition than drill it anyday, and if they dont care about the door key or already have one and dont want to switch it back to code then your job is done. I have run into a few jobs like this before filling my lishis out but of course since buying them i havent had that problem. But now i just lishi the ignition to cut the key and test in the door, as the ignition key is the most important one and i hate cutting a key that doesnt work in the ignition.

Do you ever lishi and get 1s one some of the g39 even tho the cuts aren’t 1s? Any tips or ideas on how to avoid that. I find some cars don’t lishi well cause the springs are so worn, what to do jn those spots?

Have you ever ran into a lock in which you didn't know which tool to use? Maybe that only happened when you were newer to the trade. If so, what do/did you do?
BTW you mention talking to another locksmith south from you. Is there a particular forum where you talk to others like that?
