    Testing out my RED Komodo with my Lumix S1H. Both were shot in Raw, the Komodo in R3D and the S1H in BRAW via the Blackmagic Video Assist 5" monitor. Both were graded in Davinci Resolve and conformed to Rec709. Settings are as follows:
    RED Komodo: Shot in R3D on the RED Komodo in LQ. Color Science = IPP2, Color Space = REDWideGamutRGB, Gamma Curve = Log3G10, LUT = RWG_Log3G10 to REC709_BT1886 with MEDIUM_CONTRAST and R_3_Soft size_33 v1.13
    Panasonic Lumix S1H: Shot in BRAW on the S1H in 3:1. Color Science = Gen 5, Color Space - V-Gamut, Gamma = V-Log, 55Media BRAW to V-Gamut Full Range 2.2, 55Media LUT Main 2.2
    I graded the S1H to try to match the Komodo using 55media LUT "Main 2.2" (link below) in Davinci Resolve and made the following changes:
    Raw tab:
    -Change color temp to 6050
    -Change tint to +6
    -Change exposure to +0.83
    -Change contrast to 0.990
    -Change saturation to 49.00

    This right here is exactly why I invested in the S1H, as it’s perfect for my needs and I pretty much will never invest in a more expensive “cinema camera”

      Have you looked into the BS1H? Same sensor as the S1H just different form factor and slightly geared towards cinematographers

    I prefer look of S1H. It has been my main squeeze since release. I also shoot BRAW and use color space transform. It’s a beast

    Great test man! Unfortunately, the S1H + BRAW is subject to more sharpening than even internal H265 is. A much more accurate test would have been ProResRAW vs R3D. This test makes the S1H looks sharper than it really should be :-/. BRAW on the S5II and S5IIx finally do not have this issue.

    Thank you for the test my friend. I was really surprised the right was S1H. This is my reasoning behind that, not the color or dynamic range but the motion cadence. I thought for sure the Komodo with GS would have a more cinematic motion cadence compared to the S1H. Is it just me, or is the motion looking more film like on the S1H even with that rolling shutter. Thoughts after testing both my friend? Which has more arri motion look? Color was better on skin tones too.

      Still new to the Komodo but trying to shoot with it as much as possible. I think the Komodo for me wins in this category. I am absolutely in love with the image and the motion cadence. Obviously both have an imaging image so you can’t go wrong with either. Still plenty of tests to do but so little time. Overall thoughts so far tho is that the S1H compliments the Komodo very nicely especially in BRAW VLog/vgamut.

      @@fatheadmediapro Thank you for the response, my friend. I greatly appreciate it. Both are great cameras in the right hands and plenty of DR, but it is good to know that the Komodo takes a slight edge in motion and highlights. Motion cadence (for narrative work) is so important yet often overlooked. Alexa dialed that in years ago. Thanks again! Cheers

      @@JonPais I know I've never heard of it. Are they referring to the 24P motion picture look? If so, all cameras have the identical "Motion Cadence". Not sure what they are talking about.

    S1H or 6kPro? Which one would you pick just for the image? Thank you.

    • @fatheadmediapro
      @fatheadmediapro  Рік тому +1

      I haven't used the 6kPro yet, but I have seen footage and it looks great. They both produce a great image, I think the S1H has slightly more dynamic range, but they both shoot Braw so that's great too. Also the 6kPro has internal ND's which also is a plus. Probably just comes down to preference. I almost bought the 6kPro but I really didn't like the form factor of it. Seems awkward and like its not fun to hold. Just my opinion tho.

    • @hoozentroger
      @hoozentroger Рік тому +2

      Only, purely the image? 6k pro. Blackmagic Gen 5 color science is stunning and you will get very cinematic image quality out of camera. And I'm saying this as a Lumix shooter. But you can also color match the Lumix S seriess cameras to look like an Alexa or Red, no laic would be able to tell the difference.
      On the flipside shooting on a 6k pro would be much more cumbersome. Big bulky awkward form factor, battery life of 30 minutes, camera not turning on for days issue (not sure if it is fixed), sensor size is only super 35, build quality not as nice etc. The S1H has a lot of buttons that lets you adjust ISO etc. in a second while on black magic you will have to do most of the things in the menu.

    I would say the Red Komodo looks SLIGHTLY better but the difference is not huge and you'll really have to be looking for it. I would say For the price of 1 Red Komodo, getting 3 used S1Hs or the new S5iix is a no-brainer.

    • @fatheadmediapro
      @fatheadmediapro  Рік тому

      Yeah it's close for sure. I think maybe you could find 2 used S1H for the price of a Komodo, but 3 is probably not happening. Also, keep in mind the s5iix doesn't have an OLPF which really helps the S1h get its "look". Haven't seen any comparisons between the two, but it would be interesting to see.

    In which picture style can i / should shoot with 10 bit (Panasonic S1H ) . VLOG and HLG ok, but what about natural or cinedlike2. Better to use 8 bit?

    • @fatheadmediapro
      @fatheadmediapro  2 роки тому

      No you can shoot in any picture profile in 10 bit. In fact I would recommend always shoot in 10 bit. You just probably shoot VLOG in 8 bit. From what I’ve seen the 8 bit can’t really handle the VLOG curve.

    • @joyoffilming9500
      @joyoffilming9500 2 роки тому

      Please, please, always shoot in 10bit V-Log. It's easier than you think to at least get to Rec709 colors. But you will want to go beyond that once you are getting more familiar with colors and grading. Just take a look at my 2 recent videos shot on my S1H to demonstrate cinematic grading capabilities of that footage. you will be surprized.

    How did you get braw to look nice and not overly sharpend?

    • @fatheadmediapro
      @fatheadmediapro  Рік тому

      Well if you're shooting on any other S series camera, they do not have a OLPF so that helps a lot. Not sure which you're shooting on. Also you can try the settings I list in the description and possibly take the mid-tone details and lower that by a bit. This helps soften skin tones.
