    I love my Komodo, I only shoot my videos with it now, RAW is QUALITY, no log footage can give you the quality of Raw. I have A7IV A7sIII and haven't touched them in 2 months since I got this camera, overall it costed me 14K with all the bells-&-whistles and EF lenses.

    I’ve had mine for nearly 2 years and I can’t recommend it enough to people who want an affordable camera that has stellar image quality, with the ability to take on heavily stylized looks.

      I'm hoping they bring the ELQ setting to the camera soon.

      @@EdProsser get the extended warranty if you want the reassurance, but other than that I can’t think of anything. Personally, I baby this camera. It’s been a breeze. ELQ appears to be on its way late fall.

      Folks been saying C70 looks almost as good as komodo. Have you used that? Looking at the footage it seems to me C70 is in a lower class (footage looks better than DSLR but nowhere near Red still has the digital look).

    • @EdProsser
      @EdProsser  2 роки тому +2

      @@cubul32 C70 is a great cam and there's a lot of obvious convenience with a camera like that. I almost got one! I'm sure with the right colourist you could get it very close to the Komodo, but I think that's extra time and work - for me the Komodo has a look that I really like straight out of camera and like you say it has a quality that is distinct from the "digital" look - which is probably a combination of things from the global shutter to the way it handles colour, highlight roll off and skin tones.

    • @cubul32
      @cubul32 2 роки тому +1

      @@EdProsser Yeah, I talked to some canon fanboyz and they were like "c70 is better". Better for what they want: convenience - maybe. "Oh komodo has better highlight rolloff but that's it" - well duh that's the whole big deal with cine image? They really got me paranoid as if the image in C70 is just as good and I can't see it. To me komodo has texture like a soft organic fabric; c70 feels digital with a touch of organic (but just a touch) and with proper lighting and colorizing it can look literally filmic like old school 35mm but it still looks "shallow" vs the deep organic look of komodo.

    The picture out of camera is great and WHAT YOU CAN DO TO THE FILE IN POST is on a PHOTO RAW level. The detail in the shadow and highlights is THERE. I think a lot of reviewers who spend a few hours or a day or two or even a week or so don't fully get to test out or even know about. I myself had no idea what latitude the files have in post cause I was so used to color grading and that was that. But the details in highlights and shadows is where that 16+ stops of DR come in. But NOTE - an rec 709 out is gonna SQUEEZE that to like 7 stops to make it look nice. BUT - unlike other cameras - on the RED - the RAW details are there if you want to push or pull shadows or highlights. Until you do this - you will not fully realize the POWER of RAW and R3D files.

    Hey Ed! Fantastic video, as always. I used to be primarily a doc & commercial shooter but for the last two years I've been doing mostly music videos and the Komodo has been looking veryh appealing. I got my hands on the FX6 a few years ago so I can't really justify jumping over to the Komodo but it's always good to be informed and your videos are top notch at that! I did invest in the Vespid Primes thanks to your content, I'm wondering if you're still using them!

    • @EdProsser
      @EdProsser  Рік тому

      How are you finding the FX6, it's a great cam! If I didn't already own the EVA1 I'd probably have picked one up instead of the Komodo. But Bert happy with the Komodo, shooting in RAW and Pro Res is a dream and both play back so smoothly in my editor.
      Yes still working with the Vespids! They pair nicely with the Komodo, check out latest two vids which have a short doc shot on them.

      @@EdProsser Extremely versatile! I still like footage form the Komodo a bit more but the FX6 just works well for a lot of types of jobs.

    yo Ed great video. I have a situation thats sorta unique where I gotta ask about black shading. I live in Dubai so the outside temperature is extremely different from the inside temperature and I want to get a tracking shot of someone walking from inside to outside. Will I have to worry about black shading? would this be a problem with other cameras?

    • @EdProsser
      @EdProsser  2 роки тому

      I think if it's a fairly quick transition it should be okay, if you're exposing the camera properly etc.. but honestly I don't know 100%. The camera had temp indicators which help you monitor the status of the calibration. I black shading my camera inside and shot all weekend, it was much colder outside on some days, but probably not more then 3-5 degrees.
      Worth testing if you can?
      Other cameras - to some extent, but most will process noise internally, so you wouldn't notice it too much. My previous camera the Panasonic EVA1 definitely had diff noise patterns in diff temps if I didn't black balance regularly.
      All sensors will respond diff in diff environments but I'm not sure how other cameras deal with that.

    • @ItsBerg
      @ItsBerg 2 роки тому +1

      Black shading is only needed when temp deviates about 20-30 degrees.. a small tracking shot should be ok. I’d blackshade it somewhere by the doorway.. that way you have some temp from outside and inside. Also as the op said, the temp warning will tell you if there’s a need when it goes yellow.
