- Photographing New Zealand is a new series of landscape photography vlogs. Where I take you on the adventure with me, to showcase this incredible country through timelapse, photo and video.
In this episode I head out to the East Coast of New Zealand to shoot some seascape photography at the Moeraki Boulders with my friend Daniel. Then we start to make our way towards Mount Cook National Park and capture some cloud timelapses along the way!
In the next episode I will be sharing some of the most stunning timelapse conditions I have ever seen in my life, so stay tuned!

Sorry for the re-upload, I had to upload a new video file. Common trend for my videos so far. :P Anyways I really hope you enjoy the vlog, these are the first of many to come and have been a learning experience so far.
Your vlogs are incredible (as well as your photos and timelapses), can't wait to watch the next episodes :D
I love the picture of the rock on the beach. That little rock with the gold veins is amazing. 9:46
Inexpressible joy watching the video.
Fantastic video again, Michael! I really love this series. Thanks for sharing your vision and experiences with us.
Totally agree about NZ! Amazing landscapes, food, coffee and people!
The time lapse in the beginning was amazing! Perfect timing with the clouds starting to come in! 😍
That Little Rock got some golden line on it. So breathtaking!
Well done! I really appreciate the section at the end where you go over the tech details of the shots you showed earlier.
Yet another amazing vlog Michael. Loved that shot of the broken boulder with the water flowing out of it - can't stop looking at it.
That Vlog was insane Michael ! New Zealand has always been a dream destination and your work really do justice to this beautiful country. Also, great timelapses with all those clouds rolling and that glacier water. You motivate me to push more and more !
Such an amazing photos as always.
Reminding of our NZ trips a lot 🙂💕
Thank you for sharing Michael...
You Are My True Inspiration!
ThankYou Michael Shainblum.
I Am Learning A Lot From You.
Really pleased you take the time to show your photos at the end of your vlogs with your thoughts on composition and post work.. The images are amazing, and the shot with the little rock.. 😯🤯 just an inspirational photographer.
Awesome content in a humble and respectable style! Beautiful shots, waiting to see more and getting some inspiration for my trip next year
and absolutely love that u comment ur photos an explain what u think and why du u like them
Besides those amazing photos, those timelapses are just stunning to experience. Composed beautifully. The weather was gorgeous as so so are your vision and skills.
Your video are beautiful! These transitions between "normal vlogs" are stunning: great visuals with an amazing sound.
Michael, I gotta say your work is simply inspiring.
seriously by far , you make the best photography vlogs. I loved the cracked rock picture and the little rock with the pool of water around it, incredible work Michael!
I loved the time-lapses. But your treatment of the lone rock in its pool was extra special. Nice work!
Subscribed. Really enjoyed seeing the creative process and the progress from scouting locations, planning shots, final images and settings.
Love that water off boulder shot! ...and I went out this evening and got wet but got a great seascape - thanks for that tip - have kept out of the water since losing a camera to a wave 3 years ago.
Love the waterfall rock and I can't believe how much I liked the shot of the small rock. I doubt many photographers would notice that little rock when they're focused on shooting the boulders.
Thank you Michael. Amazing work and passion. Love your channel.
you take my breath away, great work
Wow. That cracked rock shot is just outstanding 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Just watched your video for the first time. Great photos and I really liked the thought process and explanations on why you chose the photo... and the settings. Great video. Thanks
Great video - thank you for sharing your thoughts with the images at the end - that was really useful.
Oh man, that one, with the broken rock, is incredible !
Gorgeous photos and agree about that last one. Also my favorite :)
Really enjoyed watching Michael, cool to see that you also gave some attention to the little rock. That would actually be a composition that you can capture on any other beach in the world, great stuff!
Beautiful.. thanks for sharing 🙏🏽❤️
Love these!!! 🤗👏♥️ The photos turned out beautifully.
Hey, what a fantastic video. Keep up the good work! I look forward to your next video.
Wow! You are a genius! Loved that last picture 🤩
Michale. I have to say...this is such an awesome video. I'm a beginner and have pretty much learned everything so far by watching youtube...I'm so glad I stumbled onto you. I laughted out loud when you were in the water and the comments about your wet pants. SO TRUE AND MY WIFE HATES IT...but I've found that youre not going to get that certain shot unless you get soaked! Beautiful beautiful work Michael!!!
Great vid Michael. How good is my homeland 😍 I love your work, keep it up!
These are absolutely beautiful captures! What a joy to see your videos and time-lapse art. I appreciate the explanations later in the video. I have been serious about photography and a bit more time to practice only one year or so. The coastline boulders is my primary composition. I love your tips about getting closer to the water - however have a deep respect for the sea's power to take me away (I'm a feather weight person). I will continue to watch and learn from your incredible shoots and you experiences. Thank you!
You're Michael! NZ and its landscape is very diverse, has great food and coffee and great flair. Nice Video once again!
Your videos are like watching a movie wow. Love to visit that place the rocks are amazing love the fountain rock image well done you
The blues in that lake was incredible. New Zealand is on my top 3 places to visit and photograph for sure! Great vlogs so far, looking forward to more.
It was so cool to see in person. I hope the timelapses did at least a little justice to them. Thanks so much!
Stunning images, wow. Those time lapses that you lead off the video with are insane too. I can't get enough of this channel.
Thank you so much Marshall, glad you are enjoying the videos!
Beautiful images 😁😁I love your work...
Amazing work. Love your compositions. Greetings from British Columbia, Canada
Love the images of that rock
Beautiful vlog loved it 😍😍😍
In last part images were too beautiful loved them 👏👏🙌🙌
Enjoyed your calmness presenting these stunning images, and yes the boulder and the fountain, perfect seascape image
Thank you so much Dave!
What a trip. Love how you perceive and capture the world
Thanks so much man! :D
Beautiful sceneries Mike, love how most frames aren't sunrise/sunset but simply good compositions and great timing, truly inspiring!
Thanks so much Tal! Really my favorite shot was that post sunrise image of the little fountain. The light was not super dramatic, but just really soft and complemented the composition well. I think we were just lucky to get any light at all that morning. Forecast was for more rain hahaha.
Beautiful video / imagery!
Great pics!
Beautiful images, the time lapse is also inspiring with a well fitting music by the way. Superb work there Michael, looking forward to your next NZ input. Cheers
Thanks so much Gregory!
Timelapse master!!

Wow... you taught me a great lesson with that little rock. Didn’t think you could get such a cool image with that.
I just love you man!!!
Beautiful vlog, beautiful pictures and your videos are just inspirational
Thank you so much man! :D
Dude your timelapses are absolutely incredible. LOVING the Epic Drama music too. On. Point. The sequence from 07:28 is magic.
Thanks so much Greg! Those clouds were so crazy to watch!
Man, that entry sequence is worthy of high praise in it’s own right 👏👏👏. Fantastic images with great insight, plus a time lapse that makes me hate myself and my inability to get even remotely decent ones 😂
Inspiring stuff mate got the feels going
Rad video. The final shot with the cracked rock, reminds me of a dinosaur egg looks incredible. Nice work!
Love that broken boulder shot.
everything u do have extraquality, really love this video and those images, my favourite was the same as yours, real inspiraton 4 me
Unreal stuff !
Thanks so much!
Hermoso totalmente hermoso
Great work man! Loved it.
Absolutely stunning images from this gorgeous location Michael. I was there in a rainy gloomy morning too but wasn’t lucky enough to get a sunrise. I still walked away with some moody keepers though 😀 I felt a “spiritual” connection to this place and wondered if u did too?
Great job! Well done!
Please make a day to night time lapse tutorial! And the full post process please if that is possible! Thanks
super nice shots :)
Great content Michael, and it reminded me to throw my rocket blower in my bag.
I feel empty inside without it, thanks so much!
Timelapses 😍😍😍😍
Aww you did this for my Birthday?? ;) LOL , I
Congrats excellent vlogs of New Zealand. I am planning to visit next year any suggestions for the best time of the year for landscape photography
Thanks!
This is such an awesome video Michael! Can you share the details of the tripod you’re using??
Background music is really matching with your video well.
Very good job Michael
Thanks for watching!
Strange looking rocks. I hope to one day visit and shoot there. One day....
Great video. I love that broken egg shell fountain composition. I was hoping you would shoot it when I saw it at the start of the video. How busy was this location? Were you fairly alone during sunrise?
Lake Pukaki and the southern lakes are truly phenomenal. The color is very much like Lake Brienz in Switzerland and Peyto Lake in Banff.
Great images Michael. Did you use a neutral density filter on the broken bolder shot?
Yes, you're the best! :)
Just saw you on Smugmug. Looks like I have to get my feet wet. I'm from New Zealand.
You deserve more views dude keep it up 👏
Dude. These shots.......
Do you recommend to use camera rain cover when we take seascape closed to the wave to avoid sea salt corrosion to our camera?
7:58 the bird shaped cloud appearing left upper corner gap in the clouds. :-o
WOW
Would you recommend the D850 9r maybe just go Z7II? I like them both
Nz on my list of places to visit someday :)
Want to live in New Zealand now!
So awesome Mike. When do you decide to use the circular polarizer or leave it out when it comes to water shots?
I use them a lot more when shooting more mid day scenes, or scenes facing away from the sun. I use them a ton for shooting timelapse and video clips. Any forest scenes and telephoto mountain stuff as well. Much less for seascapes though. Thanks so much!
Such stunning images! What do you do to avoid sand getting in between the telescopic legs of the tripod. This is a common issue i have faced everytime I have ventured out into the sea water to photograph long exposure shots
I haven't found a solution to that yet. I just clean my tripod after most beach shoots. Thanks so much!
Love your style! Do you use filters?
Love the video and love NZ. Boulders are on east coast though:)
Just switched it, thanks so much!
It's really incredible!! what were you doing at 4:49 with lenses ?
Blowing the water off from element
Where do you get the music for your videos?
