HEY FRIENDS!!! :) I really hope you all enjoy this video and the variety of images captured. I added some chapters in case you are more intrerested in seeing the rainbows, timelapses and seascapes instead of the green ridges process. But please leave a comment and like the video as it helps me out quite a bit. Thank you for your support and more videos to come very shortly!

Loved the canyon shots with dappled light. So beautiful.

I liked the single exposure on the left more. Looked like a lone tree being protected by the giant ridges. That unique story offered by this place took a backseat for me in the pano, but I loved it as a picture too. Also the music in the middle got so intense and fitting to the inspiring lighting on the ridges. That was my favorite part.

I preferred the single exposure of the ridges and tree over the pano. But better than that I liked the wider angle. The time-lapse of the speckled light in Waimea is just *chef’s kiss*. Thanks for sharing!

I really like the pano in the first setup. However, I think I’d also like a tighter crop on the lone tree flanked by the steep slopes. I had no idea that Kauai had a Grand Canyon equivalent. Amazing!

I like both hard choice but I like the wider image, it tells more of a story. The canyon was amazing, at no idea it even existed. Not usually my preference, tropical, but loved the images.

Honestly, I prefer the single image with the leading line going in to the single tree. It brings it out and just really makes me think about how that tree grew there, and became so stark against its surroundings.

What a beautiful video and gorgeous images, Michael.
I remember you saying that you were not travelling much in the immediate aftermath of COVID. But you clearly did (I missed this vid) and I simply keep getting awestruck by your creativity!
As I write this comment, I am still in Madeira and I must have watched your videos from that location 10 times - always frustrated, but accepting, that I don't get the images that you do.
Take care and have a wonderful 2024.

Hi Michael, Nice video. Music really adds to the content. Love Kauai and your location. The leading lines of the pinnacles work really well but the tree is lost for me. If you hadn't told me to look at it, I would have barely known it was there. I like the variety in color by adding the orange hillside, but I'm not sure where to look: the pinnacles, the orange patch. My eye doesn't quite know where to settle. Moving to later in the video, the pinnacles with the white 'flowers' and shots of the canyon with the rainbows and contrasted light . . . . outstanding. Hats off to you for weathering the elements. Appreciate all the hard work. As you said, probably not some of your best stuff, but what a way to 'suffer'. Jealous!

At 3:57, I prefer the photo on the right. It offers a more comprehensive view. It's combination of vertical green AND horizontal orange offers a clearer sense and UNDERSTANDING of the location. I'm not that smitten by the little tree surrounded by green-and-more-green. For that matter, I prefer the view with green, orange, and other colors in 9x16, with its contrast of vertical and horizontal. Because humans have two eyes, side by side, we see the world more in 9x16. More square-framed photos usually strike me as artificial and unsatisfying. Thanks for doing this. Love all your videos! I which I could make these trips with you.

I liked the single exposure image best. I thought it told the story of the line tree and surrounding ridges better. The panorama did have more color diversity, but for me, I found the orange colors distracting from the story. All in the eye of the beholder! Beautiful work, as always!

I think it's straight to the point, red hues in the soil distract me from the focal point which is the lonely tree.

I prefer the single shot, I think I would have cropped it a bit tighter still to draw out the tree a bit more. I liked the statement at the end, sometimes we can obsess over getting images and forget to explore and enjoy a different part of the world.

Much prefer the single exposure around that small tree. The isolation and focus is actually more expansive in a way. Your timelapses here are amazing. And your sensitivity to keeping things less “tropical” and saturated was appreciated! I’m from Kauai, started my photographic journey growing up in the islands (in BW no less!) and spent a few years as an island photo lab tech in high school. Have become *deeply* bored by most of how the islands are depicted photographically. But not here. Good work. I have to admit to being torn about the attention your work will bring an already over visited place but I think you did a good of representing how it really feels/looks. BTW, never apologize for leaving rainbows OFF your Hawaii pics, it’s a cliche ; )

Really nice shots Michael. Best -favourite- shot for me is the one where all the volcanic ridges come straight down then some appear to bend away to the left of the image. Lots of green colour and texture. All the little trees lower down seem to punctuate the image with their brighter foliage. I think you have made a very good edit there.
Pity about all the rain during your visit...🙌
