We love a human who has no problem admitting he was wrong about something in the past. Opinion is often fluid and it's okay to change your mind.
I know a lot of people start out with beardies though and I'm glad you've talked so much about the potential down side for those considering one as a first reptile.
they aren't perfect but I love em
They sure are characters (personality wise). I don’t want to own one, but I sure do love watching them on videos.
Agreed. Beardies take a lot of work (and money) to be happy and healthy, but if you’re willing to put the time and care they need, they’re absolutely worth it.
agreed
WestsideDre how do you get your insects? Do you breed them?
I get my bugs from rainbow mealworms
@@jadewatson2440 same
You are so right, for my bugs it 15-30 dallors a month. But they can be so funny and so fun
My grandma talks about one of her friends who had a bearded dragon that lived until it was 17, that's super old for a bearded dragon I actually met this Lil lizard and it had a nice setup and an awesome life.
they are so amazing
How large was it's enclosure?
Adam with beardie
Irwin:Its treason then
HAHAHA
HEHEHE
Ah yes my comrade, well done for getting appreciation from another hooman for our kind. You are helping make the world a better place, well done my comrade.
:)
the leaf on the head tho, your making me want one dude I'm already taking care of my 5-foot boa and my sister's 2-foot ball python
They are great and super easy to take care of. I've had 2 for 11 years
that's his leaf hat
yeah it's nice and stylish
Haha! Kylo lets me put anything on his head! He’s a lil stinker and rotten boi!🤣🤣🤣
Crested gecko and a boxer ( dog ) is a lot
Omg, yes to not taking short cuts! These guys always know when something’s different about their routine and they do not do well with change. Can’t wait for the care guide vid ☺️
Absolutely!!
Adam: ye i don’t think it’ll be easy for me to have motivation to get another beardie
The power of beardies: actually it’s gonna be super easy. Barely an inconvenience
Very nice reference hahaha
hahhaha
Oh, really?!
@@beardieblighter9905 I'm gonna need you to get all the way off my -back- basking spot, sir!
Who ever said mealworms would eat out an animals stomach. My mice rats and frog love them.
people have said this about dragons for years for some reason
@@WickensWickedReptiles Yeah, my brother got his beardie as a first reptile and the guy said that, he has been so paranoid.
There is so much bad information about exotic pets on the net, it is unreal.
Yeah, people have said this to me for my leopard geckos too. 🙄
It just makes no since to me

Irwin is still my main man

My beardie will sit on my shoulder and head while I do dishes. Until he's brave enough to take a leap of faith into my rinse water haha
hahaha cutie
Id like to see a video about exotics that can handle colder temps (like an airconditioned condo/house)
great idea!
@@WickensWickedReptiles YES PLEASE!!!!NEXT VID! Prolly some niche species like the ontarian five lined skink and some garters n shiet.
Toads don't need heat in the average climate controlled house. Unless you like your house lower 60s or something.
I love your chill + informative style of videos- so glad to know more about this wonderful species from a now personal perspective :)
Thank you so much!
“Wham, bam! Bob’s your uncle.” 😂 Love that catchphrase!
haha, Bob approves
6:22 It’s correct that mealworms won’t eat out the inside of the beardie, that’s extremely unrealistic, however mealworms have a lot of chitin in their exoskeleton, which is hard for beardies to digest. It’s not recommended to feed mealworms to young bearded dragons, and they should only be fed to adults occasionally
I love my bearded dragon! Her name is Levianthan and she is 1.5 years old. She's very fun and has quite the personality.
that's wicked!
Honestly, I really appreciated your criticism of beardies. They're amazing animals and definitely worth it, but there aren't enough reptile personalities warning people about the potential drawbacks. They're worth the care if you can handle it, but there's a learning curve with these guys and for most beginner reptile keepers, there's a general consensus that its not a big commitment and so many don't bother to look into it. The result is a lot of semi-neglected dragons because a lot of people don't know any better. In addition, there are so many inbred animals that are susceptible to succumbing to Adenovirus and that can end up being a HUGE burden in vet bills and daily care. I think they're wonderful, but having dealt with several poorly bred and severely ill beardies, I'm pretty jaded over the issue and glad to be caring for my new Hognose 😊. My wonderful beardie and I are hanging in there but I spend all of my time caring for him rather than enjoying him, which is a shame.
This is so true man my bearded dragon is 2 and a half months old and is 5 inches, and he is already awesome he takes so much time. I am literally writing this with my bearded dragon on my lap
So cute! So glad you were able to adopt him. He definitely has a huge happy reptile family. You literally are probably one of the only people that I have watched or read about etc. that actually explains the details about beardie care and it's not just simple beginner pet like the others you have mentioned but also they are a pretty easy reptile to keep as long as you are fully aware of their care that is necessary for their health it's not just extra stuff that they will be okay without. Cant wait to see updates on Diamond. Have a great night!
thanks so much for the comment :)
I just wanna thank you for reminding me to put in my calendar that my UVB bulb needs to be changed in six months. I got a Leopard Gecko two days ago and got a UVB bulb for her as I read it was good for them, but was so busy getting everything set up that I completely forgot to set that I need to change it in 6 months.
that's what I make videos for :)

I took care of my sons bearded dragon over the weekend. I was so amazed at his personality
I just grew a patch of mustard greens. Seeds are cheap, they grow fast, and you essentially get free food. Then when they get big and go to seed, strip the pods, put them back in the bed, chop the stalks and leave them in the bed for fertilizer, and grow the next batch.
yes, swiss chard is like this too!
From what I’ve heard in my beardie groups, the issue with mealworms is the keratin levels are higher compared to other typical feeders and they have trouble digesting it. I just avoid them as a just in case, but that’s what I’ve been told by people that know way more than I about them
Looking forward to the care guide. I personally don't have any reptiles (yet) but I have always loved how bearded dragons look.

Welcome to the fam diamond ♦️
Great video. Really enjoy your as a person and the channel.
Love from the USA to 🇨🇦
I "rescued" my beardy last year. I say rescued, but the previous owner didn't want him anymore and I felt bad. Poor guy was in a 20 gallon tank with no uvb light. And is missing a toe because they didnt make sure the shed came off.
Now he is my first reptile. But hell I knew more than those people did...
I saw this video and ran to get my dragon so he could watch with me
that's awesome!
My Significant Other has a beardie named Athena, she’s an old lady now, but when we play dnd Athena will sit on one of our legs or sit on one of our shoulders, she’s super great! And now I’m looking at getting a leopard Gecko, we’ve become a reptile family!
that's super cool!!!
always been on board with you letting people know that they aren't an "easy" species. totally agree. my girl is a ton of work, but she's amazing and worth it. wish everyone understood how much work they are before impulse buying. still, totally worth it.
agreed!
I’m fixing to get a new beardie at the end of this month actually! XD I’m so excited! Haven’t had one in way too long!
Thank you for the video btw, the more information people get the better it is for us and the animals. I for one would appreciate a care guide so I can compare with others I have seen and decide if I meet to make a few tweaks.
I knew sooner or later you would come back to your senses
and here I am!
I found a super cool trick with the Bearded Dragon food! I use the small food processor like you but I put the food into ice cube trays and freeze them! I pop one out in the morning, run lukewarm water over it at bam! Put it on top of his lettuce with his calcium and vitamin powder.... you can make bunch in advance, make separate fruit cubes, veggie cubes AND you can even freeze lettuce! I had some lettuce that was starting to wilt a little so I stuck it in the freezer and it worked like a charm! It works even better with fresh lettuce 🥬 that way you can stock up and not worry it’s going to go bad! And before any haters say anything about the freezing process, my Bearded Dragon care... I worked for Dr. Doug Mader for 15 years (any reptile person should know who he is!) And my Bearded Dragon is in perfect health. These aren’t shortcuts! But they do work!
great idea
I’ve had my beardie for 7 months now and I am happy to see your opinion has changed
I love em
Wickens Wicked Reptiles I know. They are the best. You are right when you say that they are harder then people make em out to be though, complications can pop up out of nowhere even if you care for them right. Mine stopped eating and lost 26 grams in the matter of hours and that was a panic for sure. He is fine now though, I really want to warn people that they should buy and research about medicines that you can buy for them. That was the last resort for me and it worked well. Just patience
5 beardies and I adore every single one! I don't have human kids, so I call them my scale babies. Each beardie has their own personality and they're just awesome! Welcome back to the bearded side!

I love that you could admit when you were wrong. We just got a BD in our house and I always like to watch care guide videos just to gain others tips and different perspectives. I’m so glad my kids love reptiles as my brother had a variety growing up and I secretly wanted a beardie for myself now. ☺️ Everyone loves little Elliot. 🥰
That's awesome! Wicked name too!
Hi, The best thing to cut their claw tips are cutical scissors. Learned this after trying cat clippers that did not work.
Great tip!
I love your videos🥺I watch them until I fall asleep at night
oh wow, thank you so much
My friend used to have a beardie and Star was so sweet and so handleable and she was so chill we put her in her backyard in cute positions and we would take pictures and we used clay to make her cute hats! But the care was to hard to handle since we were 11 at the time and then her parents convinced her and I that Star would be better off with someone who can give her the proper care, which she was right! But now I have a super Dalmatian crested gecko named freckles and she is a sweetheart!!
hahaha Diamond had a photo shoot too
I can't wait for that care guide!!!

Hi from the UK
Great video mate may I suggest that either in the proposed beardie care guide OR a separate vid you explain the importance of the UV strength particularly with reference to Ferguson zones which I have found invaluable regarding keeping my beardie as it has proved to me that it's best to swap even the Arcadia 14% dragon lamp 6 monthly (recommended yearly) and the difference in the beardies behaviour is clear by which I mean it explains the need for the correct UV index at different heights within the vivarium keep up the great work 👍
hey thanks, yes I will go over UVB for sure
I've been raising Beardies for about 15 years and they're one of my favorite animals. Their little personalities are the best lol
they are awesome!
Great job on this video 👍 I had a bearded dragon before... you pretty much nailed it on the head. They are really fun! But they are A little more work than I expected upfront. Once I got the routine down it was fine.
Thanks for watching!

I’m of the same opinion. They’re not beginner reptiles. But they’re worth it. My mom fell in love with mine. They’re goofs. And they can have such different personalities.

We love our two lovely lady lizards, they’re a lot of work when it comes to feeding, but they’re two great beardies and so much fun to interact with. The next step for me is getting an ackie monitor this fall, do you think you’d ever get one?
Love your videos!! I am having trouble with choosing the correct 3rd (LED) light source for our beardy! (He has the T5 UVB and basking) What are your thoughts on Marineland LED strip light?? Or is there something better i should use?? I appreciate any advice. I just want my beardy and his plants to be happy!!!
We've had two dragons for a couple years now. Wouldn't trade them for the world. Amazing little creatures.
They have completely different personalities. They are very curious and do not like being stuck in their tanks all day. They have learned their way around the house and each has their favorite napping spots and window viewing spots, which is their favorite thing to do, they like to see what's going on around them. Of course I can't keep them out nearly as much as I'd like because they really do need their light. We built them an outdoor enclosure for summer and they love it.
Way more work then I ever thought but really not that bad at all.
The worst thing about them is that they can not be together as they will almost instantly go into full battle mode... Both are large males.
If you ever get one please do not just drop it in a tank and leave it. They need interaction and stimulation, some form of enrichment.
Like we don't just give them a super worm we make them hunt down and run for their treat. They have amazing eye sight and will see a little worm 20+ feet down the hall. They rush up and they go into stalker mode like a cat and then pounce. It's so cool. Love em.
Worst Trader Ever I’d love to somehow see the outdoor enclosure you built, that’s awesome .
i buy collard greens and other types. cut bottomd slightly and tops leaving 3 inchs totaly soak in water 24 hrs ten replant and they grow for more later to use
Would love to see a bearded dragon Care guide and enclosure setup
coming soon!
Dandelion greens! Grow them yourself in a bag or box on a windowsill. Seriously, hardly anything could be easier to grow, and a lot of dragons that turn their noses up at mustard and collard greens will LOVE dandelion greens which make a great staple green for them!
just think that last year you had under 1,000 subscribers and now your almost to 30,000 subscribers. By next year you will probably have over 100,000 subscribers.
that's the goal!
Yes can never be lazy! Beardie baths are soo important. (I play my little girl music every bath and she has a baby brush for her scales:)) And feeding size no bigger than the space between their eyes!
they can also eat wax, phoenix and hornworns (but only every now and than with the hornworms. they are more of a treat for them)
Question; would you ever consider doing a list of Australian reptiles? I know that the folks down under have a strict exotic reptile ban and so only have access to some natives.
yes! I lover their animals, I love that place, it's on the list!
I did not know dubia roaches were illegal in Canada. Handy information
they are indeed
I hope to see the care guide for him and t-bone
who is t-bone?
I would love to hear your opinion on Asian Vine Snakes and their reliability to keep. I've wanted one for a long time as I've worked with them a fair bit through the organization I volunteer with, but I've heard mixed things in regards to keeping them.
awesome vid
In your care guide please touch on feeding frequency! I have a 9 month old beardie and her appetite seems to be bottomless, I give her about 15-20 large dusted mealworms and some veggies daily. I'm just worried I'm not feeding her enough, since she's kinda small for her age!
I will for sure
I've always heard these sets of figures when it comes to feeding frequency of Bearded Dragons:
Hatchling: 100% insects 5 times a day *or* 100% insects 3 times a day
Juvenile: Gradually add veggies, feed 3 times a day *or* Gradually add veggies, feed twice a day
Adult: Always give veggies first, then insects, once a day, occasionally a rodent(like once a month or less), and *if* you give them a rodent, don't feed them the next day to avoid getting an obese beardie.
I agree, bearded dragons are not as beginner friendly as they are made out to be. Having a bearded dragon has almost been more stressful than owning my dog at times. But so rewarding. I love being a bearded dragon owned.
My beardie was my daughters and I inherited it when she left home. He’s 5 now and his personality is hysterical
I love beardies
Frankly, I appreciate your level headed assessment of beardies. I just got my first one and I agree that it's not a beginner pet...but SOOOO worth it.
I think I mentioned this before to you: what herp keepers consider a beginner reptile and what casual pet fans consider a beginner reptile are two, very different things.
that is a good point
@@WickensWickedReptiles come to think of it, that might be a decent topic for a video. I find A LOT of conflicting, contradictory information on beardies. Some help clearing it up might be helpful.
I love my Beardie so much Ive had him for Five years now. I'm eventually going to build him a much bigger enclosure. since things in care kinda changed since I first required him. I am correcting that but my husband just bought him a new enclosure so.. but building one out of an old TV stand.
I got a beardie named Monster when I was 10 and she passed away when I was 22. She was my absolute favourite animal I've ever had. I loved her so much and will always adore beardies because of her.
She would follow me around the house and always wanted to curl up and sleep in my lap. ❤️❤️
I have a beardie named Norbert and he listens as well as a toddler but he is my little baby and I love him even though he takes some work to care for
That feeling when you’re ready to let go of your opinion and admit you made a mistake because LOVE won you over.
I seen these bearded dragons in the arid regions of southaustralia sunning themselves in dead trees and on the side of road not dead of course . I also saw baby bearded dragons in a pet shop priced at $150 Australian
wow
I've started supplementing Smaug's diet with Repta-boost and he gobbles it down. I like to think it's a great way to help him pick up any missing nutrients he doesn't get from dubia's, supers, and greens. I also use it for gutloading
I love my beardie so much but I do not like the diet that much but it is definitely worth it
agreed!
Great video, but Kale is actually a good staple green, the calcium binding thing is a myth; i wholly agree though that variety is key- but i think sometimes dragons get picky too haha it's very hard but definitely worth it
I just bought a rescue beardy. He is 6 years old and was kept in a 20 gallon long tank and had the same lights his whole life. I absolutely love making his food! I love chopping all the stuff. He is pretty stunted and has a kink in his tail and some other problems. He will soon be upgraded to a 40 gallon tank and have all the uvb he needs. I love him so much. By the way, his name is Elvis.
oh boy... 20 gallons... same UVB for years? not good!
@@WickensWickedReptiles yup. And it wasn't even the tube bulb it was just a standard bulb UVB. And the UVB light had gone out and they hadn't even noticed. Poor guy.
@@WickensWickedReptiles and to make it worse, his owners said that his favorite food was ham.... HAMMMMMMM!
My first lizard was a bearded dragon; she is the best lizard ever. I got my bearded dragon as a 5th grader as a birthday present. As a junior in highschool I got a leopard gecko, and there were pros and cons, but for me, the bearded dragon was honestly easier than the leopard gecko. I love beardies so much I recently got another one.
My bearded dragon was so fucking hard to take care of but he was so CUUUUTE omg he was adorable I love and miss him every day
the cutest right!
Currently, I buy collard greens or turnip greens, and if I need to keep them longer than they want to last in the crisper drawer of the fridge, I will cut the stems like a rose, at an angle, and put them in a glass of water on the counter. Only rarely will this not work. Celery greens, if left on the celery, will last a looong time.... and arugula comes in a little plastic box and lasts a long time in the fridge. The fun part is that dragons tend to have their favorites and not want to eat anything else for a few months. A lot of people will keep their adults in a 40 gal tank, simply because they take their dragons out a lot, so spending $400 on a larger tank might not be super necessary for them - and larger tanks can be a challenge to keep hot enough - all depends on your house temperature, your dragon, your set up, etc. I'd love a larger tank, but my dragon is very entertained watching all my chickens and dogs out the window while chilling in his hammock. I do plan to get him a larger tank someday, though, just sayin, I know some can't afford that. Just my two cents :)
cool
My beardy loves dandelions... which is great, cause I have loads growing naturally in my garden lol. And plums, she loves plums, not as much as locust, but love plums.
I have a few reptiles, my first was Speedy, my red ear/ yellow belly slider turtle hybrid. He recently turned 8 years old, I got him as a hatchling. I've been hesitant about beardies... Have heard alotta cons... After watching this video I'm going to do a little more research, I'm seriously reconsidering. They aren't just cute but those lil guys are so smart!
That's a nice one,the wild ones are viscous.Plenty of them where I live, they're cool but will bite really hard.
Dragons were my 1st reptile other than my corn snake. Love my freddy to bits. His been down the park, in the garden, sits on my shoulder when I do the house work....hes like a little parrot just sit there looking around lol
Regardless of what you've said in the past, it brings me no small amount of joy to see how much joy Diamond brings you. It shows all that is right in this screwed-up world. I thought that this was an amazing video, due in no small fact to the fact that you perfect showed how to admit you're wrong (a trait we need to see more of these days *cough, cough, US Politics, cough*), without coming off the wrong way. One of your best vids to date, I shall close this comment in the words of Seth Meyers: "Now THIS is the story we need right now."
thank you so much for the kind words. Diamond is the man!
So I really really want to get one. I have had an Iguana in the past and it lived a very long time and got really really big. I'm kind of experienced. I think I'm going to get one of the 110 gallon tanks you recommended from reprile kages. Also looking into getting a red or sunburst beardie. Really excited!
that's awesome! hey if you get a Kages enclosure click that link in the description. it lets them know I sent you :)
@@WickensWickedReptiles I got you lol
Anyone notice the random cut to his jeweled lacerta?
If you grow your own salad greens it gets much easier. Salad greens are also some of the easiest plants to grow period. Pretty much any soil you get will be fine. Any amount or sun is good as long as it is not zero. But they will grow better and faster with more light. But if you do not have sun or outside space no problem they grow well under grow lights. I know you know this wickens because you are fellow plant brother like me. This for others that may not know how easy it would to supply your own.
I buy UVB lights in bulk that way I only buy them again till another year or two.
maybe not the best choice for your first reptile, but definitely a good second reptile.
I think so too!
