Thanks so much for this! My brother neglected his bearded dragon for almost a year and I finally have a chance to take him and give him the correct care and love he needs. This video is perfectly timed. I already deep cleaned his 6x4x4 cage and started on a correct diet and gave him one bath to help with poop and shedding. :)
I’m not gonna lie I neglected my bearded dragon for couple years and he stood in the back house luckily my dad took care of him I went back there today and he looked so sad so I’m looking forward to getting him new stuff and taking proper care of him :)

We bought my bearded dragon from pet smart. We didn’t know about them until after. Our beardie was an impulse buy. 3 years later and we love him so much🥺 the best $40 we’ve ever spent lol. His name is Obi Wan
Gacha Watermelon Not necessarily. The person just got lucky. Most of the time the beardies don’t get the proper care at chain pet stores. And they are more likely to have a disease or problems.
"I'm just afraid he's gonna poop on me" I'm watching this with my beardie sitting on my chest and I'm keeping my eye on her just waiting for the butt wiggle😂
Lil veggie Plant my beardie is about 8 months old now and she’s only accidentally bit me 3 times when I hand fed her but it doesn’t hurt at all. Most Beardies are very friendly especially if you raise them from babies.
My mother randomly told me she is getting my brother... The one who is lazy and never takes care of his animals. A bearded dragon... Whenever a sibling of mine get a pet... I end up taking care of it and it becomes mine... So now I'm preparing for "my" bearded dragon. That is coming tomorrow -_- thanks I for this video though it is really helpful!
@@sadiegarcia2332 wish I had some but the friend that was giving her too us went behind our backs and gave her to someone else! I was mad at first but then realized! I just baked the wood in my oven! It kills any bugs that could be in there or bacteria. I got 3 sturdy branches in my enclosures for my bbs. And for rocks, hot hot water. Let it dry. Then add to enclosure!
Or if your outdoor wood doesn’t fit in a oven then wash it in a bath with warm/hot water and scrub it and that will also take out any bacteria hope that helps.
I feel bad that I got a beardie from petsmart and regret supporting them but I also think he deserves a good life and I’m going to work hard to make him happy and healthy. He’s a very good boy and seems healthy thus far!
Persmart gives falls infos ab animals so if they die you come back.and get another i got my beardie from pet smart too last month luckily my friend knows every thing about beardies and told me everything that they can eat petsmart told me beardies cannot have food but that turned out to be a lie!
This video is awesome, I have a bearded dragon and I’ve had her for about six months, so not that long. I still am researching even though I was researching about their care for six months I still am researching and will never stop. Keep up the good work, Tyler, you’re the best UA-camr ever
I watched your videos before I got my bearded dragon, now I’ve had him for a year and he’s my perfect lil bby. I still watch these care guides cause the more info the better :)
My best friend is surrendering her bearded dragon to me today. I’ve known and held this beardy since he was a baby. I’m so excited to start this 15-20+ year journey! Thank you so much for making this video!
I got my beardie from Petsmart, and I don’t recommend! She’s very healthy now, and we did work very hard to make sure she developed no health issues while she was young. She does have many weird kinks in her tail due to her origins. They sold her while she was far too young (2-3 months old) and many I see being sold there now are even younger. They keep water bowls in their enclosure and keep several different sized babies in the same tank. The tank is super small as well. Just dont buy animals from petsmart.
@Marcelo Delgado reptile expo, breeder, reptile retail (there are stores that sell reptiles-only, not like petsmart), and believe or not, cragslist. A lot of people sell theirs because they are moving, or cant longer care much for them, and most of the time they are healthy. Oh and of course, online reptile stores! (although they tend to be more expensive, not including the shipping). But petco doesnt automatically means bad beardies. They do have a bad reputation, and its very very true, 90% of petsmarts are horrible with reptiles. But that doesnt mean your local one is bad. You just have to personally go and check them out. One of my two beardies is from a petsmart, and he is very healthy, always has been since I got him 3 years ago. He did have a very very mild case of coccidia (worms) but it was waaay after I got him from petsmart, I took him to the vet, got a 1 week medication, and returned to normal, not like he was sick and not eating, he looked and behaved completely normal, and the vet said he almost didnt prescribed him the medication because it was a very low levels of coccidia. But anyways, my point is, check out your petsmart and look for this things: 1. Do they house a bunch of beardies in one tank? red flag 2. Are they in small tanks? red flag 3. Are they in loose substrate like sand? red flag 4. Are they literally 1-3 weeks old? (yes I've seen that and its aweful they do that) red flag 5. Are they lethargic and not very active? Including not wide open eyes and not very alert? red flag 6. Check each individual beardie, how they behave. Are they basking or just chilling in a good straight posture with their head up, are they in good weight, what have they been feeding them and with supplements or not, check the temperature in their tanks and see if they are good or not. And maybe other points that I'm forgetting to say. If the stores that I said above are not available to you, or cant buy from them, do go and check your petsmart, you never know, their beardies might just be in good condition and healthy. Mine was, I made sure to check everything before I bought him, and I don't regret it one bit. He is awesome and has been a lovely beardie since day 1 at his permanent home. I just realize your comment is 1 month old now, so I hope you made the right decision and bought your beardie!
Nik I agree, though the petsmart i live near takes good care of their fish, at least enough to keep them alive. They don’t give them nearly enough room though
LYNISE JONES make 1000% sure they have the proper lighting and temperatures and a nice basking spot, feed them lots of calcium-coated crickets, and just keep an eye on ‘em.
I'm glad you mentioned having money set aside for vet bills, as I see so many posts online from people who have a sick exotic pet and haven't done this and so they can't afford vet bills. I would also add that anyone considering an exotic pet should make sure they have an exotic vets local enough to them, as that's another thing many people fail to look into before getting a reptile and it's sometimes only once they become sick that their owner realises they can't find a vet to treat them, as most vets don't.
I’ve been a Beardie owner for almost a year now and realized a few months ago that we’ve been doing it wrong!! Once we realized that we did so much research and are continuing to keep her happy and healthy! This video helped me a lot thank you!!
A coworker of mine is giving her beardie away and I've been very interested in getting one for a couple years. She was telling me about him and it sounds like they have just stopped caring for him and it makes me so sad and mad. His bulb went out a month ago, they only feed him crickets even though he is 4 years old, he is in a 20 gal enclosure and he is rarely taken out of it. I told her I would take him and I'm anxious to get this poor guy and give him a better life. I loved your helpful video and am open to any more tips or advice for getting this guy in good health. Obviously I will getting him to the vet first thing too.
I work at “pet supplies plus” and and they reptiles we get have to go through quarantine in the back room where we do treat them if they have diseases. Now I can’t speak for petsmart or petco but my Store takes care of the animals.
I've just rescued a bearded dragon from my cousin who did her best but is having severe life issues. This is my 4th or 5th video watching to help get him up to health, definitely the cutest guy to watch on here. Thank you for the video and links!!
For supplements, I do 3x calcium to 2x multivitamen over a 2 week period for adults and 5x calcium and 2x multivitamin over a 2 week period for babies. I don’t use D3 as I don’t want to overdose it, that’s just what I do tho :)
Have decided to get my kids a bearded dragon and am so thankful I found your videos, I've been sitting up all night watching them all so thank you very much for the information. ☺️ I think I will watch this video a ton more in the coming weeks before I decide to purchase one from a breeder.
I adopted a young beardie that needed a home through Craigslist a few months ago, love him SO much! I researched a lot before getting him, but it's always good to keep learning more from other people's experiences as well. Thanks for such an informative video, love how easy-going you are to listen to (and hey, not too bad to look at either! 😉😍😘).
i’ve had my beardie for almost a year now, i still watch TONS of these vids so i can be the best beardie mom that i can be! this is my first beardie and i did happen to get him from petco (bad decision) but he is perfectly healthy💕
I've been waiting for a general care guide for beardies from you for ages! So glad we finally got one. I've had my boy for a little over two years and my aim is to eventually make him a bioactive enclosure (but I'm not in a steady place in my life right now/am moving frequently so it would be more hassle than it's worth). I also have trouble keeping his humidity low enough and keeping his temps high enough, and he is a picky one and doesn't want to eat his salads. I have a food scale that I use to monitor his weight though, and take him to annual checkups to make sure he's doing good. I really love you channel Tyler, keep up the good work! :)
My mom just started giving me an allowance so I’m starting to save up for a beardie! I have always wanted one and I’ve heard they are amazing starter pets. My mom also has experience with them. I’m making sure to get as much info as I can because I want my little buddy to be happy 🌝
I love the video, I had no idea I had other options such as a 70-90 gallon enclosure. I keep watching videos that everyone says buy a 120-gallon enclosure. They don't seem to understand that not everyone has the luxury of having space for a 120-gallon enclosure. I feel yours is very doable.😻
My place is very small and I wish I could have him in a 120gallon. I’m going to buy him a 50gallon for the moment and going to let him exercise around my apartment.
I had a turtle a few years ago but I haven't had a reptile in a while so I've decided that I'm gonna try again and this time I'm gonna try a beardie, thanks for posting this, I've been doing a ton of research but this video does a very good job of putting everything in an easy to understand format
a little tip - CHECK CRAIGSLIST FOR BEARDED DRAGONSSSS. Just make sure you look at their living conditions and look for symptoms of them being sick. Some animal shelters keep reptiles but its pretty rare for them to have a bearded dragon.
s e r p e n t c o r n e r she’s not actually fat, she’s got a type of breed in her that makes him bigger than normal bearded dragon. I don’t know what the type she is though.
s e r p e n t c o r n e r I’m definitely not an expert on German giants (because I don’t have one, but I do have a beardie) but from what I’ve heard the gene makes them longer and not fatter
Do I have a beardie: YES Do I reccomend that everyone have one:NO Do you need to have one to watch these videos: NO You do what need while social distancing, I watch these to see what other keepers say. While i dont agree on some of what he said i do respect that every one of us true keepers have different styles, and that no two beardies are alike!
I just finally adopted my first beardy (after having only geckos/amphibians for YEARS), his first home got him from a chain pet store so I'm hoping he doesn't have any genetic issues but I'll be finding out as soon as my exotic vet opens up for new patients again (covid issues) . I watched this just to cover anything I may have missed and I'm so glad I already had everything down pact! Thanks so much for this video and I hope most people who have no clue on taking care of them, watch this video!
I've only had my baby beardie for 2 months, I'm still gonna watch this incase something had been missed. (Don't worry, I did as much research as possible before getting my beardie Yoda)
I’ve been thinking of getting an emotional support animal. I can’t get a dog because my dog at home would be very defensive. He was used as ‘bait’ for the fighting dogs. It’s a miracle that he survived. My dog is afraid of other dogs and will attack out of fear. So I’m starting to realize how perfect beardeds are for emotional support animals. Thanks!
I'm actually getting my own Beardie real soon. I have done tons of research of how to properly take care of one and I am getting him from a breader. I like to come back to this video to make sure I got everything right, so this was very helpful.

Mine was, I made sure to check everything before I bought him, and I don't regret it one bit. He is awesome and has been a lovely beardie since day 1 at his permanent home. And at first your baby/juvenile beardie will be skittish, shy, maybe even a bit aggressive at first. It's completely normal. I'd say 90% of baby/juvenile beardies that come to their forever home are going to be like this. Mostly because of relocation stress. Just give it time, spend every day (although not too much, I'd say 30 min to an hour) trying to tame him. Walk near his tank often, dont grab him or attempt to grab him yet, just place your near his tank every day, talk to him, and eventually he will gain your trust. Pro tip: hand feeding does wonders to taming a beardie. And yes, at first that will probably seem impossible, but again, with time, he will start accepting the food form your hands, and that is a perfect step to taming him and gaining his trust. Get a feeding tongs, and start feeding him with that. That way he starts associating the feeding tong with food, and starts accepting his food via feeding tong. Then, start placing your hand closer to the end of the tong where the food is, if that makes sense. Every couple of days, move your hand closer, and closer to the end of the tong where the food is, and eventually getting your hand holding literally at the tip of where the tong is, that way your hand gets closer to the food, and the beardie starts eating the food that way closer to your hand. And then, start feeding him without the tongs, with your hand. And then you will gain his trust at hand feeding, a great advancement to gaining his trust and taming him. And also, as they grow they naturally mellow out. So give him time :). This were just tips on taming him at the start. Over time as he is accustomed to eating from your hand, he will then start accepting you grabbing him, another step into completely taming him. While he is in your hands, sit down on the couch and place him on your chest/belly/lap, and dont do anything, just let him sit there and get accustomed to being with you. And eventually he will completely accept you and let you hold him whenever you want :). That's what I've done with both my beardies when I first got them. My first one was tough, he was a baby, skittish, and all that. And took months of work to taming him. My second one (the one from petco), I lucked out and he was always very calm from the start and very friendly. Oh and that's another point I wanted to say if you choose to buy from petco. Ask the store employee if you can hold a beardie or two, and right there and then, you can tell weather a beardie is more friendly or skittish. ask the employee says no, ask her if you can just place your hand on top of the tank, or get your hand inside without grabbing one, then you can tell which beardies will immediately run away from your hand, and which ones stay and dont mind your hand, in which case you will now which one will be easier to handle/tame. Hope all of this helped, and sorry for my bad english. And for this long ass comment lmao. I rambled on and on, just wanted to help another fella :D. And of course, this were just tips on taming him, there are other videos, including on this channel, on other ways to tame him as well, I say try them all and see which one will be easier. To me, the way I did it is a more natural way, there is a video on this channel (which is great too) showing a way to tame a beardie by just holding him in your hands and petting him for a while. That could also work but I feel that's more forced. There is other research, although not extensive, on the setup for good care for beardies. You can watch other videos on setups, lights, tanks, temperature, everthing. Or if you want I can give you a few pointers on good setups. I was going to write that too here, but its already a pretty long message lmao. Good luck, and enjoy your new friend!
Loved this vid Tyler, thank you! I am a new beardie owner as of this year! I have wanted one for a long time and then an opportunity to rescue this adorable pint sized beardie came along and I knew it was my time! I have been watching ALL of your videos about bearded dragon care and husbandry and I love all of them, they've been super helpful. I love all your vids in general haha. It would be cool if you could do one about getting picky beardies to eat! Tips and tricks on how to make sure they are eating enough and eating all of the nutritious foods they need. I have tried a few different things but he thinks he's the Queen of Shiba and loves to be tong fed and thats almost the only time I will get him to eat his greens. it would be nice to not have to always do that, but I will do it if I must. Also it would be helpful to know what the signs are that your dragon is overweight and underweight. Food for thought! Thanks Tyler!
Man you just saved my life! I thought I was going to have to spend 900 bucks just on an enclosure and a stand to get the size I wanted, thank you so much for sharing those links!
I just started on taking care of my bearded dragon today. Mine is a rescue and yes I know this vid is old but it helped me out alot. Thank You so much.
Out of all of the videos I’ve seen in the internet this one was definitely the most helpful! You just saved my life thank you I’ve been really wanting to buy a bearded dragon but all these other videos are so confusing and yours was just the best!
I’ve watched your videos in the past, but I just got a baby bearded dragon (Enzo) and was looking up care and training info prior to getting him... It was honestly so stressful watching other people’s videos about bearded dragons because so many people weren’t handling or caring for them adequately 🙃 so glad I found your channel again for information that is actually helpful! 💜
I love your posts on bearded dragons. I think the videos are easy to follow, very informative and enjoyable. We are due to pick up our bearded dragon within the next week, and as first time owners , are a little nervous at getting things right. Your videos have given me so much reassurance that I am feeling a lot happier........thank you

@@user.3am982 they are a bit hard from my research though they don’t bite purposely, and some of them like swimming so your parent(s) / caretaker might say yes
I’m a tafe student in Australia currently studying to become a vet nurse. One of my teachers works at pet smart or pet barn or one of those places and has worked there for years. One day she trusted one of her co workers to go sus out a breeder for the puppies that they were going to get in to sell. The co worker said everything was fine. Once the puppies got to the shop my teacher knew something was wrong. They were all sick and in incredibly poor condition. My teacher couldn’t just send them home so she bought them and got the lady’s info. Later after the woman left my teacher took all the puppies to the vet and some of them didn’t make it. My teacher did something she wasn’t allowed to. She called the rspca to go to the breeders address. The breeder was shut down and the other dogs were rescued. My teacher informed her boss of what had happened and the co worker was immediately fired. From that point onwards my teacher is the person that goes to check on the breeders and animals before they buy them. You are right in most cases that pet shops usually don’t care. But some do.
"He might poop on me" 😂 My beardie always climbs off me and runs away to poop. Almost pooped on my bed once. I knew she was gonna go. Got her back in her enclosure JUST IN TIME 😂😂😂😂
Mine likes to wait until I'm not close to him, make eye contact, and start to poop while I try to get to him in time to at least get him in my hand so I don't have to wash/throw out whatever he pooped on lol I can always wash my hands, I can't always wash my favourite pillow
I'm looking into getting a bearded dragon (this would be my first lizard at an age I can remeber lol) but I really dont know where to look at buying one I have a somewhat preferred type that I'd like to buy but that's really just a preference. The age range I was looking at was around 5 months to a year old maybe (but that's just a small preference once again) I just want to get one that is coming from a good place not just a retail pet store or something of that sort. And I live in a small town so theres really not any obvious place for me to be looking that I know of either way it's going to be a drive or shipping to get one and I know that I just need help at finding a starting place...
You could try Facebook groups, googling "bearded dragon for adoption", reptile expos if possible, or morphmarket. Hope this helped and hope you have a great day :) best of luck on your beardie adventure !

You should make a video on how to properly sterilize outdoor wood, rocks, etc.

How's he doing?
Persmart gives falls infos ab animals so if they die you come back.and get another i got my beardie from pet smart too last month luckily my friend knows every thing about beardies and told me everything that they can eat petsmart told me beardies cannot have food but that turned out to be a lie!
@@micluvsuu they can not have food? They told you they don’t eat?
I got mine from petco hes been healthy for 4 years so far
I loved bearded dragons ever since I saw “ holes” the movie. Always thought they were cute .
Emma I got a bearded dragon last month and I named her big daddy 😂
Sophie Foster lol
Right that was my first viewing of them lol
My Beardies name is madame zeroni
This video is awesome, I have a bearded dragon and I’ve had her for about six months, so not that long. I still am researching even though I was researching about their care for six months I still am researching and will never stop. Keep up the good work, Tyler, you’re the best UA-camr ever
birder me too but for 8 months! I think continuing to learn is the best thing to do for our beardies ☺️
@Marcelo Delgado a breeder
But anyways, my point is, check out your petsmart and look for this things:
1. Do they house a bunch of beardies in one tank? red flag
2. Are they in small tanks? red flag
3. Are they in loose substrate like sand? red flag
4. Are they literally 1-3 weeks old? (yes I've seen that and its aweful they do that) red flag
5. Are they lethargic and not very active? Including not wide open eyes and not very alert? red flag
6. Check each individual beardie, how they behave. Are they basking or just chilling in a good straight posture with their head up, are they in good weight, what have they been
feeding them and with supplements or not, check the temperature in their tanks and see if they are good or not.
Petsmart sells very unhealthy animals. Just walk by their fish tanks and see all the dead fish for proof.
Also I would love this kind of care video for a ball python!!
Obviously I will getting him to the vet first thing too.
how’s he doing?
Hows it going with him?
When quarantine is over, my grandma PROMISED to get me one! And this video was very helpful ❤️
Thank you for posting this. Ever since Margo became famous, I’ve been noticing people have been compulsively getting bearded dragons.
I work at “pet supplies plus” and and they reptiles we get have to go through quarantine in the back room where we do treat them if they have diseases. Now I can’t speak for petsmart or petco but my Store takes care of the animals.
i have a petco and a pet supplies plus in my area
will definitely have to check out ur store
I'm getting a beardie this week and this is so helpful!
Same!!! I’m naming him Turtle and I’m so exited!!! 🖤🖤🖤
I think I will watch this video a ton more in the coming weeks before I decide to purchase one from a breeder.
Just got a call for rehoming a beardie baby this video is a life saver
i’ve had my beardie for almost a year now, i still watch TONS of these vids so i can be the best beardie mom that i can be! this is my first beardie and i did happen to get him from petco (bad decision) but he is perfectly healthy💕

I enharited my beardie is from my dad when he died so now I gotta care for him...
Ok
Ok
I had a turtle a few years ago but I haven't had a reptile in a while so I've decided that I'm gonna try again and this time I'm gonna try a beardie, thanks for posting this, I've been doing a ton of research but this video does a very good job of putting everything in an easy to understand format
a little tip - CHECK CRAIGSLIST FOR BEARDED DRAGONSSSS. Just make sure you look at their living conditions and look for symptoms of them being sick. Some animal shelters keep reptiles but its pretty rare for them to have a bearded dragon.
What are some symptoms that I should look for?
Wow, I bought my first Fancy Bearded Dragon 3 Days ago. This Video is going to be a Lifesaver for me. Just Subbed & Liked. Thanks for this Video

Do I have a beardie: YES
Do I reccomend that everyone have one:NO
Do you need to have one to watch these videos: NO
You do what need while social distancing, I watch these to see what other keepers say. While i dont agree on some of what he said i do respect that every one of us true keepers have different styles, and that no two beardies are alike!
what didnt u agree on? (no hate- jus trying to get as much info i can as im going to be getting a beardie when my city lifts the quarantine)

Thanks!
I feel the longer I stare at you the more you look like Dylan Sprouse

"He might poop on me" 😂
My beardie always climbs off me and runs away to poop.

Mine does it right infront of me but he never poops on me, I can’t count the times he’s pooped on my couch
Just got my first dragon today. So happy to have my lil baby
