It depends what you’re looking for. Easier? Leopard gecko. More interactive? Bearded dragon. Leos are cute and definitely handleable, but they don’t bond with you like a beardie.
You may disagree but I think Turtles are easier to care for than Bearded Dragons. Only saying this because I had a Bearded Dragon who passed away suddenly at 9 years old showed no signs of sickness the day before. Unless 9 is considered the end of the lifespan for Bearded Dragons? But yea my turtles so far have outlived my Bearded Dragon as they are 15 years old.
A beardie's lifespan is 10-15 years and a turtle's is around 30 years. Either way, you're going to find it easier to take care of something you like better. I find it easier to care for dogs over cats, cause I like dogs better so I don't mind putting in that extra work it takes.
I feel like despite all the points that the Leo's got, I'm sold on the beardie. It's much more expensive but full of personality and you can bond much more with them. Super excited to be able to buy my first lizard!
...hmmm...I wonder how this would've turned out if you had of clumped all the 'enclosure/lighting/heating/feeding/husbandry' stuff into one category (because leopard geckos are hands down easier to care for), and then compared them. I kind of think and feel that the bearded dragon would win. Great video as always - loved your expert doctor 😂
Honestly I think both animals are awesome! I had both of them when I was a lot younger. They’re both awesome animals in their own rights, but I think you did a great job breaking them down for those that are trying to get the best one for a budget.
Thanks for the info because I’m going to look for reptiles this weekend so this was helpful since I can’t get a snake because my mom doesn’t want me feeding snakes mice
Make sure to do more research on the reptile you choose and have everything set up before getting it! It helps a lot and you won’t stress and your new pet won’t be stressed out either :)
I have one of each and I agree, my Leopard Gecko, Blossom, is much easier than my boy Buddy. *A cool video to do could be talking about difference/preference of genders of different types or reptiles? Like if one has more attitude or are more chilled out.*
I agree with leopard geckos being the easier of the two. I'm glad my first reptile was a leopard gecko. I now have a "little" bearded dragon (168 grams, 13 inches at 3.5 months) and he is so much fun to hang out with. I love them both.
I need to stop watching reptile videos my animals list is getting to long I’m like oh that’s cute but I only need 1 snake next 3 months welcome gecko 😌 After 5 more months a Hognose snake won’t hurt U don’t want me to go on 💀
Awesome :) I haven't owned any reptiles for several years now, but my dog passed earlier this year and I want to get a pet, and I think I'm going to jump back into it with a leopard gecko.
You're going to love them. I had them as kids and I have one now, his name is Geek. They are sweet critters and easy to care for. Well easy if you've done your research which it sounds like you have. The one thing I didn't think of with my first one is finding an exotic vet in my area, and if you don't have one in your area how long you'll have to drive if you need to. Chances are they won't need a vet if you care for them properly but anything can happen with animals(leopard geckos tend to just walk off your hands or whatever they're walking on so if you aren't careful you can end up with an injured gecko on your hands).
I'd be thrilled watching a video about 5 tips you should think off before starting breeding reptiles, I mean, not only the basics, also advance points, and tricks.
@@WickensWickedReptiles Thanks heaps for your videos, I've learnt quite a lot with about species I was considering to get, new cool facts about some I've already have. I'm absolutely fascinated by all content of these channel, one of the best for sure, a brilliant future is about to come for you. All the best!!!
I originally had my leopard gecko in a 40 gallon tank, she rarely came out from her hide, was eatting but didn’t really seem to have the best time. My brother in law found a 20 gallon front opening terrarium and I moved her there, personally I think it made her very happy as I’ll now see her exploring once in a while, I’ve got both and though I’d rather my beardie I always look forward to seeing my leo coming out at night
I recommend upgrading her to a 40 gallon again. As long as there’s plenty of clutter and plant coverage (and not too much open space) they should do fine in a 40 gallon. Covering three sides of the enclosure can help as well. Give her plenty of time to adjust to the change. A 20 gallon long is only the bare minimum, 40 gallons or bigger is ideal.
I've had my leopards learn when it's feeding time by snapping my fingers three times rhythmically. Once I start, they all immediately spring up and come running to eat. My newest set of hatchlings are starting to pick it up as well. it's the most amazing thing to watch them process what was once an odd sound that either startled them or broke their focus to then be a sound they get excited for. Also I'll challenge them by having them chase their prey down on the floor in my room or with tongs in their enclosure. One of my females learned she can cut the chase short with a quick sudden lunge forward which covers a decent distance. Others would jump up and snatch it from the tongs is my hand which sometimes results in them trying to take my hand with them. On occasion I'll have to move them around or not snap at all because they'll get frenzied and all close in at once. When that happens, one will grab the prey before another and that would get upset and bite at the one who grabbed but so far no one gets seriously hurt but the biters aren't rewarded. Feeding aside I'll watch them just lounge around but not sleep, dig up their substrate and terraform their enclosure, make small interactions with each other touching snouts against another, tail wagging when a male gets happy with one of his girls. The list goes on, I Love my guys.
Outstanding content, We have both, Beardies are my preference, between the two, mainly because I prefer a more medium Level reptile, and the curiousity or intelligence if you will. Our Beardie is mostly my wife's, I like our Noodles🐍. Appreciate your perspective always 🙏 (Dr feksnek alter ego, 🤣) 🤘
I get why gecko won but I feel like fun and personality should be 10 points on its own. My bearded dragon's personality makes all of the hard work worth it. Side note: fun and personality are worth a lot of points with humans too. That's how I ended up with my boyfriend who is also difficult to maintain. He avoids vegetables too.
I'm more of a snake gal these days myself. But when I was first getting into reptiles, it was a toss up. Leopard gecko or bearded dragon? Leopard gecko won. I was living in a small apartment with a roommate mate and needed something that could live on top of my dresser, because that was the only space I had for a reptile. They also didn't have all the crazy heat and UVB requirements. So, yeah. 7 yrs later, I still have my leopard gecko Nessie. Still love her. But now I'm living on my own and my collection is growing. She's surrounded by snakes now. lol.
I started by wanting a bearded dragon, but ended up with a uromastyx, however, they sold me a sick one. I took him back to the place I bought him so they could take him to the vet, well he ended up dying. I then went back to get a bearded dragon, and this time I ended up with an Indonesian Blue Tongue skink, love her, she is awesome, but she just sleeps and lays around, unless it is a feeding day. I can take her out and she is fun to hold and watch. Same time I got the blue tongue skink, my 23 year old daughter got a leopard gecko, he is cool, my daughter loves her Leo! I still wanted a bearded dragon though. WELL, I finally broke down and found a baby on craigslist, I have had my baby bearded dragon, Stripesy, for just over a week. He is so much fun. I have him in a 40 gallon breeder tank, and realize I need to get him a bigger enclosure in the next year. What will I do with an empty 40 gallon? I understand now how people who own reptiles end up with so many!!
I feel like the debate of which is better really comes down to personal priorities. If personality/ behavior is at most important and space least important, bearded dragon is a better fit. For me, it's enclosures and heating that are my biggest priorities, so Leopard geckos are my pick. I recommend getting both at some point since their care is so different. I have Leopard geckos already (4 of them, 1 wild coloring and 3 fancier morphs) but my next goal in terms of owning a reptile is the bearded dragon.
If I want to carry them around on my shoulders and shirt who can hold on better? I’m guessing bearded dragon but does the leopard gecko hold on pretty well? like walking around and stuff?
I totally agree with you. Silkbacks should not be breed, I had one, and I just felt bad for him. He was in shed basically all the time. Tons of baths and skin moisturizers for lizards. I had rub Xylafen on some of his skin that peeled to much. I felt misereable for him..
I think you missed a crucial reason why people want this type of pet. The Handleability is a category I would have included in this list. Otherwise awesome video !
I think beardies are more fun and entertaining, but with a bit more to their care than leo's and slightly more higher maintenance. But I think more rewarding also.
I have two video requests. I would love to see a video talking about giant leopard geckos ( if they have any health any problems, if they're any differences in care between giants and normal, how they came to be ) and a video on breeding leopard geckos.
I was intrigued by the video and learned a little bit more about the differences between a leopard Gecko and a Bearded Dragon 🐉 Just gotta do a little hands on research as well as seeing thee
Hii! I had this question for quite a while now. I was searching for the Arcadia Mix Substrate that you use but where I livr we don’t have any of these. I use coconut fiber for my gecko, Sunny, but I am getting a new tank for her soon and I was thinking about maybe going on natural substrate. I watched your videos about the best and worst substrates and I don’t wanna use a repti carpet or paper towels. Is there a way that I can make a good substrate by myself? I found many people making natural arid substrate and I believe this might be a way to get a good looking substrate for my gecko...so my question is: can I use an arid substrate mix recipe for my gecko? Are there any risks of impaction? Is it safe? Ps: the substrate that I am looking to make is usually made of play sand, top soil, dead leaves and coconut fiber and husk.
Agree with your points with both species Adam. Both are very cool lizards and even though the leopard gecko won, I'd still prefer to have a bearded dragon because they are more fun in my opinion too 🙂.
@@WickensWickedReptiles I was actually alittle intimidated by bearded dragons when I was in middle school and volunteered at a pet store that specialized in reptiles because I had never seen bearded dragons before. I thought that they looked cool but was just alittle intimidated by them so the store manager had noticed this and asked one of the employees to start having me help them take care of the bearded dragons and that's how I came to like them so much 🙂. It would crack me up when I saw them bob their heads to display dominance when they are in their habitats lol.
If you want a smaller beardie (with smaller enclosure) you can get a pygmy bearded dragon (Rankins dragon). You can also buy pellets for bearded dragons as part of the diet. As for food it is an advantage that you can buy part of the food source (greens) at the supermarket. Especially as adults beardies/rankins eat a lot less insects.
i still have no idea what to get. can you get crickets or roaches to breed so you don't need to buy more of them so often? i know i will need many but that's not a problem
I for sure and getting a leopard gecko. My first reptile wad a bald python (which I was terrified of lowkey) but I LOVE animals so I forced myself. I have a beardie now, I have the initial tank so leopard gecko and crested next. Love your channel.
Hey Adam do you think you can do a diy bin cage set up for a leopard gecko not in a rack system. I am trying to figure out if I want to get a tank or tub but how would you mount a heat mat on the tube without melting? I’ve seen lots of bin cage setup vids but not any showing if they heat mat on the bottom of the bin will melt. Might not need a video for something so simple just trying to do through research. Thank you
I think I would have to agree with you that leopard geckos are the easier better first pet lizard! However I will say its nice to be able to just make my beardie a salad as opposed to keeping feeders alive and gut loading them and they cost more than a $1.50 bunch of collared greens at the store thats going to last for two weeks. 🤷🏻♀️ I also have an idea for another video you could do! I was hoping you'd cover these in your small snakes video, but you didn't, could you make a video about African house snakes? I am super interested in them, the are a smaller snake, come in different color varieties and are technically a colubrid but I love how their triangular heads and buggy eyes are more python like.
Hello! Which would be appropriate for a classroom pet (1st grade)? We tried a bearded dragon from Petsmart and it was sick and passed :( I did my research and cared for it properly but not even medicine could save her. We miss her dearly. Time has passed and now I am considering a leopard gecko. I would just like your input/advice. thank you for making these videos!
Bearded dragons are more expensive, higher maintenance (particularly their diet), and require a much larger enclosure. Leopard geckos are lower maintenance, but can drop their tails if they’re grabbed. They can be more skittish too. Make sure they handle them gently and with supervision (although I’m sure that goes without saying). Keep in mind that there’s loads of misinformation and outdated information online. The website reptifiles has great care guides for both species. Definitely don’t buy animals from PetSmart again.
I've had my dragon for half a year now I love him but when I have friends ask where to get one I do not recommend them I love mine and turned down 1k for mine but I wouldn't recommend getting one unless you know what ur getting into no amateur reptile pet owner hard to maintain and feeding habits can get expensive and can tent to have alot of health issues
Honestly I think the best reptiles to start off with would be more like a crested gecko i have a Leo a crested gecko a beardie and a Cuban false chameleon I personally love the reptiles were you don’t need heat like a crested so that’s my personal thing with reptiles I love lizards so any of them are awsome
I think it would be great if you did a video on spider ball pythons, enigma leopard geckos, and jaguar carpet pythons to educate people about their neurological issues and why people should not give their money to people who breed them
Can you do a video on Angolan pythons vs ball pythons? I've always loved how bp's look, but tbh the fact that they're soo common just kinda puts me off a little bit for some reason. So would it be much harder to get/ keep an Angolan instead? P.s. Greetings from the UK!
I have both which I've only had my Leo for a month and a half and bearded dragon for 8 months so I've noticed Leo's eat more better than a bd. My Leo is more active than my bdragon I like both. But my favorite still is my bearded dragon because I've had more time with it I might change my mind later on when my Leo gets bigger and I know what the sex is. And my bdragon was way more easier to train my Leo will let me pick up and hold but is very jumpy right now
what breed is cheech because it looks like my gecko nubbie and f you don't know why its nubbs because it lost its from something unknown ,but she is well .
I jump in to beardie care. My youngest wanted one and we found a local breeder at a reptile show and took a full year researching and getting a complete enclosure set up. My only regret is that I didn't start my dubia colony earlier. Love my beardie, she rides around in my purse doing errands and is a total couch potato when we hang out.
A bit unfair, maybe. If you go for sheer convenience, there is no comparison. From just the standpoint of fun to hold and fun to watch, there's a reason why beardies are so popular .
@@WickensWickedReptiles I am two months into owning my first beardie. The care and set-up differences are pretty stark. Yet, what is lost in the objective things like lighting, enclosure and heat requirements etc are the sheer joy of owning. Look at your previous top 3 lists of less likely to bite, fun to hold, and fun to watch. If I'm not mistaken, the beardie topped all of those lists.
I have been trying to decide between a bearded dragon or a leopard gecko. I'm going to get a bearded dragon first. I luck out and work at a grocery store and get a discount on what a bearded dragon would eat.
@@WickensWickedReptiles I'm going to build a custom tank for my bearded dragon after I get it. After I do would you be able to give your opinion on it?

If you want a smaller beardie (with smaller enclosure) you can get a pygmy bearded dragon (Rankins dragon).
You can also buy pellets for bearded dragons as part of the diet.
As for food it is an advantage that you can buy part of the food source (greens) at the supermarket. Especially as adults beardies/rankins eat a lot less insects.
Pellets have hardly any nutritional value, it’s best to just stick to live insects and veggies.
I think it would be cool if you made a video about what reptiles are best to chill with. (Watching movies, working at a desk)

i still have no idea what to get. can you get crickets or roaches to breed so you don't need to buy more of them so often? i know i will need many but that's not a problem
I still can’t decide!
I would love to see your little birb react to your reptiles. Like, does he likes them? Does he gets scared?
the birb is a prick, he'd just bite them
lol cool vid...first time reptile buyer here...but old as the hills ha...getting a dragon german soon
very awesome
Bearded dragon Vs Leopard geckos which is the best reptile?
Me:blue tongued skinks
great idea!!
You should do a video on snakes that aren’t kept as pets and should be or not common pet snakes that make really good pets
Great video! My wife and I have a bearded dragon and debate on what type of gecko we would want. So what about a top 5 gecko video?
He has a top 5 lizard video and if I remember correctly, all of the lizards are geckos, so you can watch that :)
I for sure and getting a leopard gecko. My first reptile wad a bald python (which I was terrified of lowkey) but I LOVE animals so I forced myself. I have a beardie now, I have the initial tank so leopard gecko and crested next. Love your channel.
a bald python? you should get a hairy python next... haha
you're really are getting me into leopard geckos
they are amazing
this makes me love my gecko even more
I got a couple leopards so I already had my winner but great video any way
Leopard geckos are amazing
Hey Adam do you think you can do a diy bin cage set up for a leopard gecko not in a rack system. I am trying to figure out if I want to get a tank or tub but how would you mount a heat mat on the tube without melting? I’ve seen lots of bin cage setup vids but not any showing if they heat mat on the bottom of the bin will melt. Might not need a video for something so simple just trying to do through research. Thank you
I sure could
I think I would have to agree with you that leopard geckos are the easier better first pet lizard!
Would the opinion vary pertaining to beardie vs gargoyle gecko?
I've had my dragon for half a year now I love him but when I have friends ask where to get one I do not recommend them I love mine and turned down 1k for mine but I wouldn't recommend getting one unless you know what ur getting into no amateur reptile pet owner hard to maintain and feeding habits can get expensive and can tent to have alot of health issues
Is a 2ft long 1ft tall enclosure large enough for a leopard gecko?
I miss seeing Pikachu. Btw great video
Glad you enjoyed it! Pikachu is in Monday's video next week :)
Choosing was impossible. Got both.
I'll have to get both
Honestly I think the best reptiles to start off with would be more like a crested gecko i have a Leo a crested gecko a beardie and a Cuban false chameleon I personally love the reptiles were you don’t need heat like a crested so that’s my personal thing with reptiles I love lizards so any of them are awsome

For my leopard gecko would it be safe for a 10 gallon when it’s a child and a 20 gallon when it’s an adult
A 20 gallon long is only the bare minimum for adults, 40 gallons or bigger is ideal.
very good quality!
I have a bearded dragon and a leopard gecko 🦎 😂
Like them both for different reasons!
Me and a buddy both relatively new to the hobby I have a beardie he has a leopard gecko and we've been arguing about this for months
And my bdragon was way more easier to train my Leo will let me pick up and hold but is very jumpy right now
The answer is blue tongue skinks
can you do a video with the uromastyx and how its a possible bearded dragon alternative
I was watching this with my crestie and he tried to jump into the screen
Doxon vs pitbull? Who is the best pet dog?
I think I good idea would be blue tongue skink vs leapard gecko
great idea
Cuban knight anoles are pretty cool
DR. FEKSNEK! HE KEEPS ME FROM DYING IN THESE TOUGH TIMES!
Part of me wants a bearded dragon and my 10 year old begs, but I just can’t take on the clean up and feeding.
i want a beardie so bad😞 but i already have a leo and 3 cresties and they’re hard enough to take care of as is. maybe some day!!
Can you make a video about how to supplement and feed leopard geckos
👍很好, I’m happy to be here and support this awesome channel New subscriber
Can I populate my Southern California backyard with bearded dragons? Do they wander far?
My answer is
The crested gecko
It is Thursday
THURSSSSSDAY!
Wickens Wicked Reptiles it is Thursday Thursday the 6th
This guy came into my work and said he had a beardie and a leo cohabed in a 40gal and I just about died
I wish you could call CPS for pets
whaaaaat, that's so dumb!
Wickens Wicked Reptiles my co worker and I were shocked at how anyone would think that’s remotely an okay idea
Why does he look so much like vsauce? Lol
hahhaa, I get that comment so much!
what breed is cheech because it looks like my gecko nubbie and f you don't know why its nubbs because it lost its from something unknown ,but she is well .
Can you do Bearded dragons vs Uromastyx
Yes I want that too
I have a leopard gecko named nova I want another one though because they’re a lot of fun
to keep
When you move You should do how to setup videos as you re put together the enclosures
that's the plan!
Beginner: leo
Intermediate: beardie
agreed!
@@WickensWickedReptiles yay i love Your videos thanks for the reply!
Keep up the videos theyre the best in the entire hobby!
My ball python: " *pathetic* "
Im a Leo guy myself, because I can’t afford a Beardie, but if I could afford one, i would totally get one.
A bit unfair, maybe. If you go for sheer convenience, there is no comparison.
From just the standpoint of fun to hold and fun to watch, there's a reason why beardies are so popular .
I do love me a beardie!
Hmm I don’t know I like both of these reptile so it’s gonna be a hard choice BTW I was second.
NICE!
Leopard gecko by far because that’s all I’m allowed to have
for sure
I have been trying to decide between a bearded dragon or a leopard gecko. I'm going to get a bearded dragon first. I luck out and work at a grocery store and get a discount on what a bearded dragon would eat.
that's perfect
@@WickensWickedReptiles I'm going to build a custom tank for my bearded dragon after I get it. After I do would you be able to give your opinion on it?
