      Trezor suite only supports the ones listed. For things like ERC20 tokens, you just send it to your Eth address. For things like Montero, you need to use additional software with your Trezor instead of just Trezor suite.

      The first thing I will say is that both are great devices and depending in where you live, there may be a significant difference in terms of price and availability...
      That said, it will come down to how you want to use it... Basically if you are someone who wants to run it with an iPhone, do Multisig or run Statelessly, then Jade will be your best bet. (Jade also still lets you use it as a TOTP authenticator)
      If you are someone who is happy to use a PC/Android and would prefer to have a fully standalone device that doesn't need something like a pin-server, (So can be used with a PC/phone to sign transactions without an internet connection) then the Trezor Safe 3 is likely a better bet. (Or if you just like Trezor Suite more) The Safe3 can still do multisig, but doesn't actually save the multisig wallet to the device in the same way that a Jade does.

    1. Is Trezor random number generator safe to use?
    2. Is 12 word seed safe enough?

    • @CryptoGuide

      The RNG process on Trezor is fine. My main issue with 12 word seeds is a poor checksum, made worse by the Trezor not confirming all 12 words at setup.
      Basically you just need to do a full recovery check, then you will be good to go :)

    Is there any real downside to the safe 3 compared to the model-t apart from the lack of touch screen UI and offline signing of psbts using the micro sd slot? Even if price isn’t a concern at all it seems like overall just a better device than the model-t if you don’t need those 2 features. Connecting a device without a secure element to an internet connected computer never seemed like a great idea.

    • @CryptoGuide
      @CryptoGuide  2 місяці тому

      Trezor T doesn't support offline signing of PSBT files via the MicroSD slot. The only real advantage of the T is the touchscreen, which I personally don't like anyway... The presence of absence of a Secure Element isn't relevant to the safety of connecting via USB, it's only relevant to how safe a device is against physical attacks and whether it's possible to do a cryptographic genuineness test.

    Really helpful demo @cryptoguide, thanks! About the "check backup," is this step solely to ensure that you've properly recorded your seed phrase, or is there any aspect of this step that helps protect against outside tampering or attack? In other words, is it simply to protect yourself from yourself?

    As far as I understand, the secure element here is keeping the “salt” that is mixed with PIN code to decrypt the contents of the chip. Similar result can be achieved with SD Card protection enabled on Trezor T (obviously if SD card is securely stored separately from the device) where that “salt” is stored on the SD card instead of a secure element. Is my understanding correct? Can you confirm that? Or am I misunderstanding something here? Thank you.

    • @CryptoGuide
      @CryptoGuide  6 місяців тому

      That's basically what's happening, though the secure element is also used to check the genuineness of the device. (Which wasn't really possible on a robust way with the previous Trezor models)

      It is less susceptible to physical key extraction attacks that depend on attacking the MCU itself. The attack surface for a theoretical USB based exploit is the same, as the keys all live on the MCU after it is unlocked. (But none of these have ever been demonstrated)

Thus I thought I should have 1. Trezor 3 just for BTC (eg the BTC only) 2. Trezor T for other and 3. A Ledger for other and 4. an exchange Is this a good strategy? I am planning to first open and account on an exchange and then ordering these wallets. I also saw that you can also buy BTC directly from Trezor suite. • @CryptoGuide
      @CryptoGuide  6 місяців тому +2

      There are a few ways that it can boost security.
      1) Protecting backups - Even if someone finds your seed backup, they also need to know (or to be able to guess or brute-force) the passphrase to be able to access the funds.
      2) Adds additional entropy, particularly useful for hardware wallets where seed generation happens in a closed source process.

      Ultimately it depends on who you want to try and be private from. One of the challenges with hardware wallets is if you do stuff like buy it through a vendors webstore, use it with their software, etc, they have a lot more information about you than just an IP address. (Never mind that for closed source hardware wallets, closed source vendor supplied software may also have the ability to make use of "undocumented features" in the closed hardware...)

    I have a sincere question. I am concerned about the security difference of a 12 vs 24 word seed phrase. Is a 12 word seed phrase enough, or is it greatly more secure to use a 24 word seed phrase? I can see a programmer cracking a 12 word phrase via brute force much easier than a 24 word phrase just by iterating all possible combinations. This does concern me, should I use a 24 word phrase as a result of this concern?

    • @CryptoGuide
      @CryptoGuide  3 місяці тому

      The difference between 12 and 24 isn't really one of security, but rather one of safety. A 24 word seed has a much stronger checksum than a 12 word seed. (So is far more likely to key you know if you have a typo in your seed)

    • @tpks2542

      @@CryptoGuide Thank you for responding, now in terms of a computer program that is trying to guess random seed phrases, wouldn't the 24 word seed phrase safeguard against this exponentially more so than the 12 word seed phrase? • @CryptoGuide
      @CryptoGuide  2 місяці тому

      24 is exponentially more secure that 12 words (that's an understatement) but if you are worried about someone brute forcing all 12 words, just download BTCRecover and play around with deleting words from a test seed... You will soon appreciate that 12 is enough on that front. ;)

    Do you trust trezor with your own coins? Personally, i find putting your coins into a wallet where you don't have full control of the manufacturing process for is reckless but maybe i am misguided? Like why own a safe 3 when you can just own a seedsigner that you make yourself? With the safe 3 you can never be sure that the device isn't somehow uploading your keys over Wi-Fi or something. And honestly even running the device on anything other than stateless mode seems like a terrible mistake to me.
    Wbat are your thoughts on my questions above?

    • @CryptoGuide
      @CryptoGuide  6 місяців тому

      Well to start off the answer is yes.
      The main thing that the Safe 3 gives you is physical security, for which the Seedsigner has zero. (The safe 3 much moreso than previous Trezor devices too) It's also FOSS with deterministic builds, so while the Safe3 in particular is harder to DIY than the Trezor One, it's still very trustless. (And stateless operation creates as many problems as it solves, if not more)
      For most people, a retail device like this is going to be safer overall than something DIY like Jade, Seedsigner, Krux or Satochip.
      That said, there is a reason why I make a lot of content about how to do DIY options, as I do think it forms an important part of the self custody ecosystem.
