Although CryptoDad does good explanations the number of wallets being produced is a whole new industry. Everyday there are numerous UA-camrs promoting the latest wallet. So many wallets and of course they are all wonderful. The presenter always insists there is no financial deal but says he/she was kindly sent the wallet by the manufacturer and there is a wonderful discount if you quote the presenters code. As soon as the viewer has decided "this is the wallet for me" because the presenter was so enthusiastic about it the presenter enthusiastically presents the next wallet and then the next wallet. Leaving the poor viewer confused and wondering if he really has the best wallet. It's a booming UA-cam business. More and more wallets. More and more presentations. More and more views. More and more advertising revenue.
I understand everything you're saying here. I try to do my best to give a fair evaluation of every wallet that I review. I try to avoid things like "best crypto wallet" in the title. You are right! there are a lot of wallets in this space because there are a lot of people trying to find the right wallet to custody their crypto. And yes, it is confusing. Crypto is a difficult concept to wrap your head around. I would hope that most people would watch several reviews before making their decision and base their purchase on their particular needs rather than the advice or recommendation of youtubers. Each wallet tries to tell us how secure they are and how they are air-gapped etc. The interesting thing is it seems none of them have ever been hacked and it is usually down to the mistakes made by the user that leads to losses. So it would seem the simpler the better. Tangem 2 seems to fit this bill.
Why did a screen pop up saying your device may me compromised if it was brand new? I read stories for people buying trezors thinking that they were new and when they added funds, they were drained
I have watched 3 tubes on how to use the Trezor 3 but no one has told me how to deal with coins other than the ten or so that one initially can load. So how do you send and receive coins that are NOT one of the 10 that come with the Trezor 3. Someone said to use the ETH mainnet but I don't know how to navigate to other coins from there. p.s. I like the look and feel of the Trezor Safe 3. It's like the old Trezor One modernized. And considering their biggest competitor is Ledger, I would absolutely suggest Trezor over Ledger. Just my personal opinion.

When I transfer Bitcoin or ETH to this wallet, are the BTC or ETH identified as being received on a specific chain? For example, if I transfer BTC on the BNB Chain network, will it be recognized as part of the BNB Chain upon receipt, or will it remain an independent token not tied to any particular blockchain network? One problem with Trezor Safe 3 . The cost is €79 but Trezor are using expensive Courier only services to deliver it costing something like €15 euro for me . Nearly 20% of the cost !!! They have no low cost delivery option . It could easily be put in an envelope and delivered using normal post costing a fraction of the cost of using couriers . Why is this option not available ?
It says online supported coins and tokens online type 3 I can send and recieve USDT, is there a different address for me to give to someone for every different crypto? The address I am given is just for Bitcoin when I load and start Type 3 for the first time? Is this true??? Well, the Trezor safe three is not compatible with an iPhone. So there’s no way to connect it. Your MacBook Air should have a USB-C connector surprised it doesn’t. According to the specs on Apple.com there are two thunderbolt ports. The cable that comes with the Trezor safe three should fit these. Actually, I take that back. The cable that comes with the Trezor Safe three is USB-A to USB-C what you need is a USB-C to USB-C cable you can pick one up from Amazon on the cheap.

It has been shown that 12 word seed phrases are sufficiently secure. It would take on the order of millions of years to brute force crack a 12 word seed phrase. The 24 word seed phrase is a bit of overkill on top of that. However, if you feel better with a 24 word seed phrase, then you could do a restore using a 24 word seed phrase that you generated randomly. The restore functionality allows you to choose between 24 and 12. Brute forcing a 1 word secret phrase from a 2048 word list: each guess has a 1 in 2048, or less than 0.05% chance of being correct. Brute forcing a 2 word secret phrase from a 2048 word list: each guess has a 1 in 2048², or 0.0000238% chance of being correct. Brute forcing a 3 word secret phrase from a 2048 word list: each guess has a 1 in 2048³, or 0.0000000116% chance of being correct. Brute forcing a 4 word secret phrase from a 2048 word list: each guess has a 1 in 2048⁴, or 0.00000000000568% chance of being correct. Not sure if you are still answering questions here, but this would be helpful to know this. Does this cold wallet accept all Erc 20 tokens and not just Ethereum? Like coins we can swap for on Uniswap, volt Inu is a good example? Do I need to manually put the volt address into the wallet or will it automatically go in since it is an erc 20 token on the Ethereum blockchain? Thanks
The Trezor Suite does not have a mechanism for adding support new erc 20 tokens. You're simply going to have to wait for them to add support for a token. However, you can connect your Trezor device to metamask. Using meta mask, you can import custom tokens using their contract address (such as volt inu). Yes, there is a process that you can go through. Basically, you can send a small test transaction to the wallet once you have it set up. Then you can do a factory reset on the device and do a restore using your 12 word seed phrase. Once you have restored the wallet, just make sure that your test balance is still in the wallet and then you've confirmed that your seed phrase is written down correctly and working properly.
Hey Rex, regarding the recover wallet option. If I buy a safe 3 and use the recover wallet option with the seed phrase from my trezor one, then I have two hardware wallets with the same seed phrase. My question is can I then wipe the Trezor one and create a new seed phrase with it? basically, I want my Trezor one's seed phrase on the new safe 3 and I want to generate a new seed phrase for my old Trezor one. Is this possible?
Once you do that restore, the two devices will be mirror images of each other. They can be used interchangeably, since they now have the same master private key. You could use your original Trezor one as a backup in case something happens to your new device. Or, as you say, you could simply wipe it and set it up as new. You have to connect the old device to the Trezor suite and then go to the settings. In the device settings Tab, If you scroll all the way to the bottom there is a factory reset option.

Hello, Cryptodad. I'm not sure if you have any video showing how to convert bitcoin into a token using trezor safe 3. For example, I'd like to convert bitcoin into usdt in the polygon pos network directly. Is this possible or there is a step in between I have to complete? When I just set the swap from bitcoin to usdt in polygon pos it enables the "compare prices" button. But it also shows me a note that says that I dont't have any MATIC. Do I have to convert bitcoin to matic first and then to usdt polygon pos?
Well, there's no way to really convert Bitcoin "directly", as you say, because most of these decentralized exchanges are based on EVM block chains like Ethereum, polygon. et cetera. Bitcoin is on its own blockchain, so there's really nothing to swap it for. That's why when you want to "swap" Bitcoin in Trezor Suite, you're going to have to go through some sort of 3rd party exchange under the hood. That's why they're giving you quotes. Because they're wanting to know which exchange you want to use. I think the reason it's letting you know that you don't have any Matic is that you're going to need Matic in that wallet for fees If you ever want to move that USDT(polygon/matic based) out.

The secure element chip is a tiny piece of electronics that manages your private key. Its main purpose is to prevent tampering. And it does a great job doing this. If you're using a Model T, I would suggest updating to a Trezor Safe 3, or the new Trezor Safe 5. They both employ secure element chips. This is the modern way for crypto hardware wallet devices to stay secure. All of the major hardware wallet companies are using them now.

Yes, you saw that correctly. But Blockchain fees are not based on straight percentages. They are based on the network activity. So they could be higher or they could be lower depending on the network activity. They also vary greatly based on the amount. So for example you could send 1000 dollars worth of Bitcoin for just a couple of Bucks and then try to send $100 worth of Bitcoin and it will cost you $5. When network activity is high, Bitcoin blockchain fees are high. It's just a fact of life. They're working on scaling it and the best option we have right now is the Bitcoin Lightning Network. But even that is complicated to use and you have to pay large fees just to get your Bitcoin into the network. So it's kind of a catch 22.

Each time you connect your device to Trezor suite It always asks you if you want to use a standard wallet or a hidden wallet. The hidden wallet option is where you enter your passphrase. This will take you to an alternate configuration where you can store crypto. But you can only access this configuration by reentering the passphrase whenever you connect to Trezor Suite. So you must make sure to not forget or lose this passphrase.

No, the Trezor does not have Bluetooth functionality. So it cannot work wirelessly. So, yes, it needs to be plugged in if you're sending crypto out. However, it does not need to be plugged in if you are simply transferring crypto in. You can generate a receiving address without having the device plugged in. But its best practice to do the hardware check every time you do that. Which involves having it plugged in. :-)
You can use the web based version of Trezor suite if you connect to your Android phone with a usb cable, here are some instructions: trezor.io/learn/a/trezor-on-android You cannot use the device with an iphone. Well, that sounds like a personal decision to me. You don't necessarily have to stick to one wallet unless your budget is limited. But if you're planning on using your wallets to custody thousands of dollars worth of Crypto it might make sense to own more than one wallet. But let's just assume that you can only afford one wallet and you want custody H bar. I would go with the Ledger since it's a hardware wallet. Much better than using a hot wallet. Regardless of the FUD that's going around surrounding the ledger device, it is still a safe and secure cryptocurrency hardware wallet.

The firmware update is not OS specific. It's for the Trezor device itself. So when you install Trezor suite either on Mac or PC, it should offer to have you run the firmware update if your device needs it.

Yes, you can manage your devices in the top left corner of the Trezor suite interface. I would suggest giving each device an appropriate name so that you can keep them straight. Maybe even put labels on each device like number one, number two and number three so that you don't get them mixed up.
Nice video. I Was curious as to how to enter your seedphrase on device itself with only two buttons. I hope they made it easy by grouping letters and symbols together to save time. That would prevent users from scrolling for a long time to type it all down.
I haven't tried it yet on this new Trezor, but it will be similar to the way you enter your pin. It may seem tedious, but as you start to complete a word, it will auto finish for you to make it a little easier. In other words, you won't have to type every single letter of each word. Once you get a few of the first letters it will offer you choices of completed words since there are only 2048 words in the official bip 39 list.
So what you're trying to do is possible, but you're not really doing anything "inside the wallet". You can swap crypto currencies using the Trezor Suite interface, but it's not really happening in your wallet. You're basically signing up for 3rd party services that are performing this swap for you. When you are inside your Trezor Suite and looking at a particular coin, you'll notice next to the send and receive, there is a "trade" button. If you click this button, you'll be taken to an interface where you can line up trades between different coins. But when you do this, you will see there are offers below there. Each of these offers requires you to sign up for a 3rd party service. Each of these services will require you to provide identification. So basically you're using an exchange from within the Trezor Suite so it's not happening privately in your wallet, which I think is your intention. Each of these services has their own set of fees and limitations. It will be up to you to decide which is best for your needs.

Yes, there is a Trezor light application for the phone that allows you to track the Wallet. However, you cannot use it for sending and receiving since the device does not have Bluetooth. You can download it from their website.
Yes, if you go to your Cardano account in the Trezor suite, there is a staking tab. Of course, you will need to have enough Cardano in the wallet for staking.
You can use both the standard and the hidden (passphrase protected), they would just basically be two different wallets. You make that choice when you log in. You can actually manage multiple hidden wallets by using a different passphrase for each one. The trick is to keep track of all your wallets and not to forget your hidden wallet passphrases.

When I transfer Bitcoin or ETH to this wallet, are the BTC or ETH identified as being received on a specific chain? For example, if I transfer BTC on the BNB Chain network, will it be recognized as part of the BNB Chain upon receipt, or will it remain an independent token not tied to any particular blockchain network? If it indeed receives BTC specifically on the BNB Chain, what would happen if one day the BNB Chain collapses? How would I be able to convert BTC to fiat currency under such circumstances? One problem with Trezor Safe 3 . The cost is €79 but Trezor are using expensive Courier only services to deliver it costing something like €15 euro for me . Nearly 20% of the cost !!! They have no low cost delivery option . It could easily be put in an envelope and delivered using normal post costing a fraction of the cost of using couriers . Why is this option not available ?

Well, the Trezor safe three is not compatible with an iPhone. So there’s no way to connect it. Your MacBook Air should have a USB-C connector surprised it doesn’t. According to the specs on Apple.com there are two thunderbolt ports. The cable that comes with the Trezor safe three should fit these.
Actually, I take that back. The cable that comes with the Trezor Safe three is USB-A to USB-C what you need is a USB-C to USB-C cable you can pick one up from Amazon on the cheap.

It has been shown that 12 word seed phrases are sufficiently secure. It would take on the order of millions of years to brute force crack a 12 word seed phrase. The 24 word seed phrase is a bit of overkill on top of that. However, if you feel better with a 24 word seed phrase, then you could do a restore using a 24 word seed phrase that you generated randomly. The restore functionality allows you to choose between 24 and 12.

Yes you can! A native segwit wallet is backwards compatible with a regular segwit wallet. Those are the wallets that start with a 3 or 1.
Not sure if you are still answering questions here, but this would be helpful to know this. Does this cold wallet accept all Erc 20 tokens and not just Ethereum? Like coins we can swap for on Uniswap, volt Inu is a good example? The Trezor Suite does not have a mechanism for adding support new erc 20 tokens. You're simply going to have to wait for them to add support for a token. However, you can connect your Trezor device to metamask. Using meta mask, you can import custom tokens using their contract address (such as volt inu). Yes, there is a process that you can go through. Basically, you can send a small test transaction to the wallet once you have it set up. Then you can do a factory reset on the device and do a restore using your 12 word seed phrase. Once you have restored the wallet, just make sure that your test balance is still in the wallet and then you've confirmed that your seed phrase is written down correctly and working properly.

All Trezor devices have an option to check your recovery seed back up. You can find it in settings under device in Trezor suite.

Hey Rex, regarding the recover wallet option. If I buy a safe 3 and use the recover wallet option with the seed phrase from my trezor one, then I have two hardware wallets with the same seed phrase. My question is can I then wipe the Trezor one and create a new seed phrase with it? basically, I want my Trezor one's seed phrase on the new safe 3 and I want to generate a new seed phrase for my old Trezor one. Is this possible?

Once you do that restore, the two devices will be mirror images of each other. They can be used interchangeably, since they now have the same master private key. You could use your original Trezor one as a backup in case something happens to your new device. Or, as you say, you could simply wipe it and set it up as new. You have to connect the old device to the Trezor suite and then go to the settings. In the device settings Tab, If you scroll all the way to the bottom there is a factory reset option.

For example, I'd like to convert bitcoin into usdt in the polygon pos network directly. Is this possible or there is a step in between I have to complete? When I just set the swap from bitcoin to usdt in polygon pos it enables the "compare prices" button. But it also shows me a note that says that I dont't have any MATIC. Do I have to convert bitcoin to matic first and then to usdt polygon pos?
Well, there's no way to really convert Bitcoin "directly", as you say, because most of these decentralized exchanges are based on EVM block chains like Ethereum, polygon. et cetera. Bitcoin is on its own blockchain, so there's really nothing to swap it for. That's why when you want to "swap" Bitcoin in Trezor Suite, you're going to have to go through some sort of 3rd party exchange under the hood. That's why they're giving you quotes. Because they're wanting to know which exchange you want to use. I think the reason it's letting you know that you don't have any Matic is that you're going to need Matic in that wallet for fees If you ever want to move that USDT(polygon/matic based) out.

The secure element chip is a tiny piece of electronics that manages your private key. Its main purpose is to prevent tampering. And it does a great job doing this. If you're using a Model T, I would suggest updating to a Trezor Safe 3, or the new Trezor Safe 5. They both employ secure element chips. This is the modern way for crypto hardware wallet devices to stay secure. All of the major hardware wallet companies are using them now.

Yes, you saw that correctly. But Blockchain fees are not based on straight percentages. They are based on the network activity. So they could be higher or they could be lower depending on the network activity. They also vary greatly based on the amount. So for example you could send 1000 dollars worth of Bitcoin for just a couple of Bucks and then try to send $100 worth of Bitcoin and it will cost you $5. When network activity is high, Bitcoin blockchain fees are high. It's just a fact of life. They're working on scaling it and the best option we have right now is the Bitcoin Lightning Network. But even that is complicated to use and you have to pay large fees just to get your Bitcoin into the network. So it's kind of a catch 22.

You’re gonna need to unstake it before you transfer it. And the Trezor does not support Solana staking.

Each time you connect your device to Trezor suite It always asks you if you want to use a standard wallet or a hidden wallet. The hidden wallet option is where you enter your passphrase. This will take you to an alternate configuration where you can store crypto. But you can only access this configuration by reentering the passphrase whenever you connect to Trezor Suite. So you must make sure to not forget or lose this passphrase.

Does the Trezor need to be plugged in to your computer everytime you want to make a transfer? Can it work wirelessly?
No, the Trezor does not have Bluetooth functionality. So it cannot work wirelessly. So, yes, it needs to be plugged in if you're sending crypto out. However, it does not need to be plugged in if you are simply transferring crypto in. You can generate a receiving address without having the device plugged in. But its best practice to do the hardware check every time you do that. Which involves having it plugged in. :-)

Well, that sounds like a personal decision to me. You don't necessarily have to stick to one wallet unless your budget is limited. But if you're planning on using your wallets to custody thousands of dollars worth of Crypto it might make sense to own more than one wallet. But let's just assume that you can only afford one wallet and you want custody H bar. I would go with the Ledger since it's a hardware wallet. Much better than using a hot wallet. Regardless of the FUD that's going around surrounding the ledger device, it is still a safe and secure cryptocurrency hardware wallet.

The firmware update is not OS specific. It's for the Trezor device itself. So when you install Trezor suite either on Mac or PC, it should offer to have you run the firmware update if your device needs it.

Yes, you can manage your devices in the top left corner of the Trezor suite interface. I would suggest giving each device an appropriate name so that you can keep them straight. Maybe even put labels on each device like number one, number two and number three so that you don't get them mixed up.

Nice video. I Was curious as to how to enter your seedphrase on device itself with only two buttons. I hope they made it easy by grouping letters and symbols together to save time. That would prevent users from scrolling for a long time to type it all down.
I haven't tried it yet on this new Trezor, but it will be similar to the way you enter your pin. It may seem tedious, but as you start to complete a word, it will auto finish for you to make it a little easier. In other words, you won't have to type every single letter of each word. Once you get a few of the first letters it will offer you choices of completed words since there are only 2048 words in the official bip 39 list.

So what you're trying to do is possible, but you're not really doing anything "inside the wallet". You can swap crypto currencies using the Trezor Suite interface, but it's not really happening in your wallet. You're basically signing up for 3rd party services that are performing this swap for you. When you are inside your Trezor Suite and looking at a particular coin, you'll notice next to the send and receive, there is a "trade" button. If you click this button, you'll be taken to an interface where you can line up trades between different coins. But when you do this, you will see there are offers below there. Each of these offers requires you to sign up for a 3rd party service. Each of these services will require you to provide identification. So basically you're using an exchange from within the Trezor Suite so it's not happening privately in your wallet, which I think is your intention. Each of these services has their own set of fees and limitations. It will be up to you to decide which is best for your needs.

Can you set up a standard and hidden wallet?
You can use both the standard and the hidden (passphrase protected), they would just basically be two different wallets. You make that choice when you log in. You can actually manage multiple hidden wallets by using a different passphrase for each one. The trick is to keep track of all your wallets and not to forget your hidden wallet passphrases.
