I love this video. I am a certified teaching professional, and I always have disagreed with the cookie-cutter approach. That approach IMO is why so many golfers take lessons but see no improvement and as a result, go right back to their natural swing. Golf is not about adhering to some swing theory; it is about finding out what works for you and then improving upon it.
Big fan of Eamonn Darcy, 13 time winner on European tour. Definitely not the aesthetically perfect swing, but you practice what works for you, it’s your swing. It may be that Darcy and Miller were actually better because they had adverse swings. Many different swings will get you around a course but you will only win if you have the right mindset. Many a beautiful swinger threw away a tournament because they didn’t have the balls to win.
I have watched several Rick Shiels videos and some are very enjoyable. Rick would be the first to tell you he can’t chip, but they are just videos , entertainment for his many followers. It’s a media outlet. This is the world we live in. Some people like magic tricks, some just fun.
Great video and great points made. Miller Barbie has the course record 64 at NCR country club that i have played many times and that is flat out balling on that golf course!

At first I was against bad mouthing other teachers, but now as I’m trying to learn more deeply about the golf swing, I’m beginning to agree with it.
Like Trevino said…the golf swing starts at 6” prior to contact and ends 6” after impact…the rest is just motion
Miller Barber was a super great putter and I have copied his pop putting style for many years,successfully I might add.
Now the ball striking, strike the ball with the sweet spot of the club is #1 ,in my opinion,#2 is tempo aka timing and use what you got naturally not some contrived athletic move that only a few can employ.All the great players have a unique swing and so should you.

It’s not early extension when you use a lot of vertical launch as a primary speed producer. I like your concepts however if you know your dominant core you will set up accordingly. Check out Wright Balance. This is primarily upper core motion a lot like Peter Senior from Australia . Justin Thomas . Low core players ala Dustin Johnson will use more torque and glide hence setup further from the ball and trail foot will remain on ground longer.
I agree with you 100%! Golf instructors these days are teaching us what the lil devils in their head is telling us what the golf swing should look like and it's like a political party that will try to destroy anybody who comes up with a different idea or way to swing like a swing to what your body can support. We are not pros we just want to have a lil fun. Most of us look like robots on the golf course rather than golfers because we had to adhere to the instructions we received. The golf swing is so technical it's like building a darn spaceship but still can't fly. Look at the PGA Tour, not all of them swing the same. Can somebody say Lee Trevino or Jim Furyk? Those are some of the best ball strikers but their swing is unique to them and boy they can smoke that ball.
David leadbetter teaches miller barber, " A swing" check it out. Darcy the Irish man was an anomaly in the eighties, preformed once a year, and at the time all the amateurs who railed against teaching would refer to him " if he can do it like that so can I" . They couldn't though , he could putt.

I've always said that it doesn't matter what a players golf swing looks like - its only what happens at impact that's important. Rick Shiels ought to know that.
Miller Barber appear to swing like Matt Wolff, and Eamonn Darcy "jumping" is using parametric acceleration in spades.
No ones swing is the same, i follow the single plane swing. years ago i tried Lee Trevino's swing got lots of distance with very little effort but it wasn't good for the lumbar.

Mine is similar to what David Lee of GG taught, which is similar to what Lee Trevino did.

Even now with Bubba Bryson and others show there is more than one way to play golf.

these guys succeeded despite their "flaws" not because of them. The VAST majority of players will fare far better learning established fundamentals (proper grip, aim, set up, take away, etc.) to build consistency and that's even if you had the time and resources to "groove" a miller barber type swing. the best swings to copy, for 99.9 percent of the golfing community, are LPGA swings. I would NOT teach Jim Furyk's swing to anyone because no one (99.99999%) has the natural ability to replicate that swing. I would never change a guy like that but trying to teach it someone would be futile.
