  • This is a re-upload of episode 2 of STAYAWAKE. "The McStay Family Disappearance"
I had been receiving quite a few messages regarding the audio levels of these first episodes. So, I decided to clean up the audio as much as possible and re-upload. I am really hoping the levels are better this time around and this video is easier on the ears! I apologize about any audio other issues - I will be completely re-recording and remastering this episode and the Stephen McDaniel episode in the near future!

I don't understand how half-packed luggage is indicative of having gone on a trip. Wouldn't that look like you were packing and suddenly were abducted/disappeared mid-packing? Has anyone taken a flight across the country but left a few half-packed suitcases at home? How does that not immediately send up a huge red flag?

The police really dropped the ball with this one. All the clues that something was terribly wrong were right there, yet they chose to ignore it because they saw the silhouettes of a family crossing the border at nighttime on a 3 second blurry cctv image? Unbelievable. This should've not only been deemed suspicious, but should have been urgent considering children were involved!
Because, you know- being owners of a very successful business, being people that are close with family & who they're typically always in communication with, having dogs they love & take care of, just one night choose to spontaneously take a vacation, telling no one, and leaving everything behind (including their dogs in the backyard) isn't uncharacteristic whatsoever!!! Happens all the time! It's also completely normal to pack up luggage only to leave it at the house. And go onto not answer any of the concerned phone calls you're receiving.
Sorry for the novel of a comment, but this case makes me angry. The police were completely incompetent & that vile monster that murdered them makes me sick. It's all just so incredibly tragic and my heart goes out to the family members of the McStay's.

It was Joseph's own brother who put out that the family could have went on a "vacay" and then too it was someone in the family who agreed that it looked like the family at the border crossing. I guess the police thought who would know better than the family to identify the people crossing at the border.

I'm so incredibly sorry for your loss and for want of a better word, lack of closure. I get it. I had a 21 year old friend and his 18 year old roomie that were both murdered because they were selling Oxys in the wrong neighborhood.
This happened well over 20 years ago and all we ever heard was two guys got on a train from San Diego, came up to Seattle and killed these two young men, stole their jewelry, not the hundreds of oxy's nor the cash, and went back to San Diego.
It absolutely devastated everybody and his mom and dad, him being the only son we're absolutely crushed and ended up in divorce. Neither of them has been the same since this happened, they are just shells of their former selves.
I pray that they find my friend's killers and the killer or killers of your family members soon. 💔

This case had a huge effect on me and this area: I was living nearby when the bodies were found, and a few months before that grim discovery one of my kids was critically injured in an accident out of state. So, my family picked up and went to go stay with my child during the long process of hospitalization, surgeries, rehab, etc. My neighbors were apparently so on edge from this story that they actually wrote letters to the neighborhood association and the local police to report concerns about a "family with several children who had suddenly disappeared...now school has started and they still aren't back...mail is piling up and there are cobwebs all over the family cars."
At the time, I was too distracted by the medical crisis to understand why this level of concern was warranted, but now I realize that the neighbors were no doubt worried that MY family had pulled a McStay-style vanishing act!
Way too close for comfort. Ugh.

Yeah...it's really quite rediculous. Even though the perpetrator was very cautious and made multiple red herrings to make the police think they went on a spontaneous trip to Mexico, it all clearly felt "off". You'd think any investigator should be able to pick up on that. Hell, the family (who knows the victims best) was trying as hard as they could to tell them, but the local police thought they knew better in this case. Smh. At least that monster was caught in the end, even though it doesn't bring that family back, sadly.

It's not the kids animated movie hes talking about it is actually a thriller movie about 3 college students getting stuck on a chairlift in New England right before a snowstorm is about to hit. • @xenophagia
      @xenophagia 2 роки тому +8

@@STAYAWAKEvids I also disagree w/ OP. The notion that the sound effects are "disrespectful" is just absurd. The things people get offended over these days are mind boggling. The sfx are very mild anyway. I felt they mostly only added to the immersion, as they were intended. The editing (including sfx) is great. You do an excellent job of "setting the stage" (for lack of better words) and immersing the viewer into the specific part of the world during the specific time/era that each of these crimes take place, starting with your introduction and continued with the dialogue and editing/sfx. My biggest recommendation (for what it's worth) is don't drastically change the way you start your videos. The way you start with the satellite view, then go into factoids of the mentioned specific place/time/era, and your transition into the case at hand is *very* effective at "setting the stage" and even bringing nostalgia to the viewer. It is also very unique and is signature to your channel, which is extremely important. You do a good job of distinguishing your content from the others while still paying homage to JCS and the more "analytical" true crime style. I also appreciate how you objectively went over the defense/alternate theory. Always interesting to hear that info. Anyway, this is completely subjective, but the only thing I personally think could be changed is the dubstep in the intro. Or at least the specific track. I just feel like it isn't representative of your tone, subject matter, or your content as a whole. It personally reminds me of something that would be at the beginning of a vlog channel or something of that nature. It's just a tiny nitpick and is my own opinion, anyway. This is your channel (obviously), so do your thing regardless of what myself or others say. Only take criticism that makes sense to you and leave the rest. Over all, I think your content is very good and your channel is off to a great start. Looking forward to see you grow, the continuation of your Holmes series, and what else is to come. Subbed w/ notifications. Will share as well. If you read all this, I thank you for that and even more so for the hard work you put into your videos. Glad I stumbled across your channel. 🤘
*EDIT:* The intro to your Holmes video is masterful aswell, is also very immersive and quite artful. Just thought I'd make that clear. I still think you should work in the satellite view to your intros because it feels kind of iconic lol.

Behind mounding? In the recessed corners of the house? On top a door frame? Did they not get a cadaver dog to scent out the McStay vehicle?

    • @MsLax45

Also, they knew him well. He probably was able to trick them to all take one car and go somewhere so there wouldn’t be signs of struggle in the house. Their guard would be down and he could strike without notice. Or perhaps used the children as hostages to get the parents to do what he says? Either way, the crime was committed elsewhere I’m sure and then he came back to the house after to stage it probs
