This channel highlighted the uselessness of revenge. The murderers revenge that caused all of this. That was the point. Instead of focusing on revenge, focus on healing and never think about this creep ever again. This is what the family wanted. They want to move on and be happy because that is what they should do to honor their family. You can bet they do not ever devote any of their time to thinking about the daily life of the man who took their family from them.

@@victoriagraham6470 People are not missing the revenge connection. You missed the point. The revenge was the reason the murderer did this. Because he felt the victim stole his fame. The truth was, this guy didn't contribute much to the invention and the product never did sell. There was nothing to avenge. The guy was delusional. The family did not seek revenge on the murderer, only justice, and then they moved on.

The purpose of the revenge films is to act as a release for the audience. As an SA victim, movies about a protagonist getting revenge on their r*pist/s is a sort of validation that what you went through was wrong and that you didn't deserve it. But it isn't like the movie is intended to be something for you to replicate. It is so that you don't have to. That was some people's critic of promising young woman- that it didn't give people that successful revenge ending and that they were too caught up in trying to depict realism.
But you are so right- revenge is nothing compared to the sustaining healing power of helping others. So if you are a victim of something, work on being an advocate and support for other victims and the prevention of other victims.

This is def a case for the death penalty imo. Life in prison is relief for these killers. As soon as they can get acclimated they can have a life in prison- it's still a life. Though it's a hellish environment, he''s still able to utilize his human survival skills to live some kind of bearable life in which he can seek little pleasures like watching TV, finding favorite snacks, using the internet, etc... It's not a life to us but it's a life to him and it's HIS life, but his victims don't have a life.

I'm going to assume that you are talking about real things- like perhaps the torture and beheading of your innocent child. But even then, do you really want revenge? You actually want it to have never happened, and eventually perhaps, for it to have been worth something. I think that is why a lot of victims end up starting charities and awareness foundations, etc.

I live near Calgary where this happened. I remember the moment I heard the Amber Alert for Nathan. I was stopped at a red light, with my 2 kids, around the age of 12 at the time, sitting in the back. When I heard the Alert I began to tear up. My kids didn't know what an Amber Alert was. So I told them. They were completely silent. It was if we all knew in that moment that Nathan was already gone. I will never forget that moment. To find out later how he and his grandparents died at the hands of this monster was unconscionable. We don't have a lot of crimes like this in Canada. It was a big deal. The grief was felt far and wide. Thank you for covering this case.

The thing you misunderstand about revenge is that even if it hurts you more, the idea is to punish the person who did it at all costs. I'd rather die in prison knowing they suffered than live in misery knowing they weren't effected and don't care - often were even rewarded.
Edit: to clarify I'm talking about like my wife murdered type scenario. Not some petty shit.

Anyone else but me notice the respect people have for law enforcement in Canada. I watch tons of true crime. All the Canadian interrogations and investigations, the level of cooperation between departments, ....are just so much better in Canada. Police in the United States hold press conferences it's always rare, and it's almost at an adversary level. Canadian press releases always are done professionally. Done with care for the victims. They share what they can. They don't hold back. They answer questions. They don't just say no comment over and over or hide answers. They answer in ways you get your answer without the words said. I really respect how they work. The differences they have from the US are quite evident and the differences matter. The departments are layered and have multiple levels always working with each other and there is not this automatic distrust that they have here. I used to hate videos on anything other than the US. Now I brace Canadian investigations.

When one party wins an encounter you want retaliation so you don’t lose again. Other animals have the same response. They remember a face and exact revenge.
