The purpose of the revenge films is to act as a release for the audience. As an SA victim, movies about a protagonist getting revenge on their r*pist/s is a sort of validation that what you went through was wrong and that you didn't deserve it. But it isn't like the movie is intended to be something for you to replicate. It is so that you don't have to. That was some people's critic of promising young woman- that it didn't give people that successful revenge ending and that they were too caught up in trying to depict realism.
But you are so right- revenge is nothing compared to the sustaining healing power of helping others. So if you are a victim of something, work on being an advocate and support for other victims and the prevention of other victims.

Anyone else but me notice the respect people have for law enforcement in Canada. I watch tons of true crime. All the Canadian interrogations and investigations, the level of cooperation between departments, ....are just so much better in Canada. Police in the United States hold press conferences it's always rare, and it's almost at an adversary level. Canadian press releases always are done professionally. Done with care for the victims. They share what they can. They don't hold back. They answer questions. They don't just say no comment over and over or hide answers. They answer in ways you get your answer without the words said. I really respect how they work. The differences they have from the US are quite evident and the differences matter. The departments are layered and have multiple levels always working with each other and there is not this automatic distrust that they have here. I used to hate videos on anything other than the US. Now I brace Canadian investigations.

Twenty odd years ago I worked with a guy who was fired within months of retiring. He was a welder who made trailer hitches from thier scrap. They fired him for 2 cents a lb. Anyway , Jerry was methodical, and a devout Christian. He said it was an unforgivable sin to take a life. And there were worse things than being dead. He had straps of 3/4" plywood 2 in wide and and about the length of your spine. Those were targets nailed to trees at different distances. He went on to tell me a .22 short wasn't powerful enough to sever the spine. A .22 lr had a velocity higher than he wanted for a silencer. A .22 long was what he planned to use, 8f, he said he ever came down with cancer or knew his time was short. He'd put the HR guy in a bed dead from the neck down. Still give me a chill. Lesson is, a man with nothing to lose could be your worst nightmare. Don't fuck with people. Jerry dropped dead of a massive heart attack a few years later. Dead before he hit the ground. My guess all those years of focused rage did him in.

Not being religious myself, how do you reconcile your God being good and caring for you with your parents and son being suddenly, brutally, and violently torn away from you? Like do you say your son is in "a better place", implying that he'd rather be in the afterlife than with his parents, siblings and friends? Or do you say that it's "part of God's plan" for your loved ones to suffer immensely? Because in that case your God is pretty fucked up.
I just don't understand how you can stand at a press conference saying they know that God is looking after them only for their God to have abandoned them when they needed Him most.
Can a religious person please explain why God would allow this to happen and what purpose it actually serves?

Douglas Garland case is somewhat like that of Hadden Clark, a psychopath who murdered at least two people out of a desire for revenge for very minor transgressions, which he became maniacally fixated upon. Hadden Clark is suspected of having killed significantly more than the two victims he was convicted for, one of whom was a six-year-old girl.
