I suffered from the same thing this past March......You can have Ramsay Hunt without having shingles or blisters......no it isn't deadly, just annoying. Since it is a elevated form of Bell's Palsy.....once you get it, you have it for life. You may recover, and be fine for a while, but it can start up out of nowhere. Good example is WWE announcer Jim Ross. He has had Bell's since 1996, and has been fine for almost 10 years. But he just recently had another attack, but this time it is much worse,

This takes me right back to June 1, 2006: The Day I Awoke With 100% Paralysis to the Left Side of My Face.
Yes, it, too, was Ramsey-Hunt Syndrome. Awful but survivable. I remain partially paralyzed. The eye still doesn't close properly and I have a little trouble with my mouth/lips on the left. Watering or dryness of the eye can be troublesome at times. The left eye brow/forehead still looks as though it has had a Botox treatment.
I'll try to post a video of my progress. Thx 4 yours!!!

The Ramsay Hunt Syndrome is BELLS PALSY PLUS vesicular eruption INSIDE auditory canal and oropharynx.
somtimes the vesciles can take days to occur and may not occur at all in some cases.
the nuerologist would have to look INSIDE your external auditory canal on AFFECTED side to vcerify this.
