Draining Samsung front load washer

- I plan on editing this a little better and uploading another video. Here I am showing at request how to deal with the front drain of a Samsung front load washer. The plug can be a little tough to pry out. To prevent damage I recommend holding the black tube and slowly twisting out the plug.
Hope this helps as it helped me as I haven’t done this since my first video.
Filter Replacement: amzn.to/3ArMdtY - Авто та транспорт
I've had this machine for 6 yrs and NEVER knew I had to do this. I finally was so frustrated with loads of laundry coming out "stinky" (I do run a cleaner through the machine and clean the seal regularly) - that I googled and voila,... who knew! Found your video b/c I had a hard time getting that door open - but your demo really helped! drained water all over my floor, but don't care, at least that filter is clean now!
Thank that was helpful
My machine would eliminate all the water due to the need for de-clogging.
Thanks for the video!❤
I just got a new Samsung front loader and could not for the life of me get the cap off the tube to drain it. It sure was not as easy as yours! I finally managed to get the thing off. It's nice to have a video at any rate, to actually see how things are done. Thanks.
I’m having the same problem getting the cap off! Did you just keep pulling? I’m trying tk twist it off and it’s not working.
Having the same problem now. Pain in the butt!! It’s a child safety lock but it’s ridiculous
If you use some sort of pliers and you hold down the hose behind the plastic tube and you pull and twist it should come out. I just did my Samsung washer like that and it came right off
@@christiangalvis813 this helped me!! Thank you for the tip on using pliers.
Me too
I have worked for different families for years. Not even housekeepers know about this. Not to mention cleaning the main filter membrane of electric dryers. I take cares of newborns and do their laundry and moms are happy to learn appliance maintenance from me.
my old Samsung washer did not have that small door with the filter on the front, and somehow it worked without any issues. I guess this is a new design and people are not aware of this inconvenient feature.
Thanks sooo much!! My son wasn’t happy to have to get down and doing this, but I begged and owe him, so he did it. Joy 😅!!! My heroes!🎉
Paint tray works fantastically as the receptacle to drain the water into.
Thank you and thank goodness for UA-cam!! The stale water in my washer was killing me but I couldn’t figure out how to drain the water LOL. 🎉 so easy thanks to your video!!
If you still have a smell you can try the self clean option. Carful as the water gets very hot. Do this while the machine is empty.
At last … a video that simply just got straight to it 🤗
Thank you ✌️
I thought the 5C code was about to bust my budget. Thanks for this! I'm so proud of my mechanic moment. 😏
One thing to note sometimes there can be ALOT of water in there and it seems to take forever but don't take that filter out until that hose stops draining. Unless you want to flood your laundry room floor.
My genius electrician self didn't see that small drainage tube and just opened the big one... big mistake 🤦
Water doesn’t drain from the tube on mine!!!! So I had to pull out the entire filter. And now the filter will NOT screw back in. Lord please someone tell me what to do!!!!!
@@Kristina-tk1fs Same as mine. Even though there is a load of water in the drum, no water comes out of the drainage tube at all. I can't open the filter because it will flood the floor and go into the premises below me - straight into their lights.
I saw the comment on your other video asking to post this video. I too was having a hard time taking the plug off the tube. Thanks for this video!
Rocky Road I’m glad it was helpful. Sorry for the lack of editing. Did everything through iMovie for a quicker turn around time.
@@dissectingdiy I thought it was perfect.
Okay, you’re definitely a lifesaver! I twisted my cap out but it’s really a pull that has to be done. I tried the white part for drainage and it created a big mess and then boom- you saved the day! Keep making videos because this was so simple but I couldn’t figure it out 🥴
U made this job painless! Heard so many horror stories! Thanks so much for this video! 😎
Thank you so much. You have saved me alot. I was wondering why water was going all over the place when i open the big knob until i saw your video and noticed i was doing it all wrong!
Ahhh same. Whoops! I will say that even failing to properly maintain mine, my washer just died after 12 years. Going to do a better job with my new washer!
Man. My washer stopped draining all the sudden… it came with this house when I bought last year, my first front loader… I smelled the smell, and it stopped draining, this video just changed my entire laundry game, thankyou bro!! The filter was soooooooo clogged with grossness it wasn’t even funny, and probably not all mine…
Had mine for 8 years and didn't know this. Do now.. thank you
Thank you so muchhh 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 this video helps a lot
For anyone who can't get the cap off, u can pull it off instead of twisting it. Just grip the tube tight, and pull the cap. 😉
Thank you😮😮😮
Are you serious? That the hardest part for me. We bought ours second hand and it must be stripped. Each time I wonder if I’ll be able to get it the next time!
Omg you are a life saver !!!! Pulled the filter it caught two face masks that I was wondering what ever happened to them there is one more mask missing wonder if it’ll turn up later
Simple and to the point. Well done!
Thank you. This really helped.
This helped me so much! Thank you thank you thank you 😩💕
Appreciate you.
It helped a lot.
Thank you
Glad I could be of some help!
My son was getting his diaper change when you was saying something about the sewer so it was like the video Came alive man lol great video thanks
Was of great help. Thanks.
wow thank you for this video buddy
If the filter just spins when you're trying to unscrew it, press in on it as you rotate and it will start to thread its way out.
exactly what happens to me. The filter is just spinning. I tried to press on it too. I find it extremely inconvenient to hold the pipe of the filter while pressing and twisting the filter out.
Hi, on the top of this model is a fill hose to wash it keeps on dripping and fills part of tub, what do I do ? Do I need machine serviced?
Just saved me a couple hundred dollars! My front loader wasn’t spinning so bad drained it and cleaned the filter. Works perfectly now!
Thanks it is 💯 percentage usefull
Thanks very helpfull. The drain tube can be slide back into the machine to get it out of the way. Great vid thanks.
Very helpful! 😀 Thank you.
Thank you for this video!!! I've been doing laundry all day and my washer stopped and read th SE/5E code and I freaked out. It's fixed now.
Use a large cookie sheet. All the water won't drain out of you don't. Mine is on a pedalstal stand and it drains much better if the hose can go downward. I use an empty milk jug on mine. I understand you don't have a pedalstal, but a cookie sheet would work better for you.
THANK YOU! I was ready to trash this thing. Never again will I buy a front load washer
Just think a senior or a person that has arthritis has to do this every time to drain the filter. Whoever designed this piece of crap wasn’t thinking . I’m a senior & don’t have arthritis (yet) but I still have trouble unscrewing the white cap on the hose or taking the large cap of, I don’t have the pedestal so I have to lie down on the floor & use a tray to drain the water. When the tray is full , you lift the tray & spill most of the water & it goes under the washing machine. Never again would I buy Samsung. Lesson learned. 🤦♀️
@@ANNM1957it's not the brand, most, if not all front loads have this. Yes, it's very difficult to get to as it's literally ground level.
I have an IGNIS but you cannot see the drain hose like this. There is knob that I assume is the plug for the hose which is located inside, which makes it a bit more difficult. 🙄😠
There is a holder for your black tube with white cap, if you want it out of your way will while taking and putting back in large round plug/filter
I used a water hose to rinse it from dirt-flushing from inside the drum and in this filter outlet.
Thank you. Great/ Simple video
How after should you drain your washer
Our washing machine broke during the rinse drain cycle.
I'm thinking that the belt broke and wouldn't turn the drum,
The washing machine was full of wet clothes and lots of water. Couldn't even move it.
Pulled out my Wet/Dry Vac and sucked the machine dry using the drain hose connected to the vac.
Thanks man, helped a treat.
My drain hose starts and stops and starts again. Normal?
GREAT video. Thanks tons. Although all I can think about right now is how much trouble you're gonna be in for using her Christmas hand towel. LOL
Haha, I was thinking the same thing. :)
Same, I was first admiring the pretty print when he washed the filter. Then he came back to the washer and wiped around with it. Me: “NOT the white Christmas towellll!” Then when he plunged it into the funky filter hole: 🤦🏼♀️😖🫣 “oh, you’re going to get it.” But he comes off as the type that would tend to cleaning the towel right away.
Thanks for the video, sir and let us know about the towel! 😊
My husband cleared the filter, but I still have 5C code. Is there a video on draining/cleaning the drain hose?
I screamed when he used his wife's Christmas towel to clean the gunky filter housing! Lol
So that’s what she was mad about!
Me too hahaha
I don’t understand…it was a perfectly good towel. 😜
Men 🙄😜
I know how to take the filter out and clean it, but I searched your video because it is 5° F out right now and my washer drain pipe has frozen. I've had the same clothes sitting in my washer full of water for a week!!😮
I started to pull the white cap off the black tube but it didn't just pop off so I thought "shoot if I pull this off - it might break it" . And then "how do I get the little cap back on?!?" But I watched your video and you just simply placed the cap of back on.
So I'm going to try it now. Of course I have a lot more water than a bowl's worth.... I'll let you know how it went. ✔️
PS I trashed a perfectly good front load washer before knowing about the easy access panel in the back. I had washed a rug and the strings got all in it and clogged it up, so I went out and bought a brand new washer and as they were taking the old one away I noticed the easy access panel and realized crap all I had to do was get in there and unclog it. 😢
I know that frustration all too well. I hope that you’re able to figure things out.
You rock thank you so much!!
Thank you!!!
Can anyone kindly help? I have about an 8 yr old stackable samsung washer and I accidently pulled off the emergency drain hose(front bottom right of washer next to filter plug)...For the life of me I cant figure out where the hose reattaches and the pump is almost out of view ...theres steel around it ,cross supports etc....Where the heck and how do you reaatach???
I downloaded the actual owners manual and theres nothing on where it reattaches.Called a repair guy and he wants $250 just to reaatach??? Hose is about 8 inches long.Any help is much much appreciated...thanks
You can also push that little latch in and it will open
I’ve loosened up the white cap but it’s doesn’t come all the way off. Also I can’t screw it back on all the way and my garage is flooded 🙃 lol
Is this for all Samsung washer models?
Thanks for the video =)
My problem is the plastic child-proof cap used for the drain. We can't get the darn thing opened. Using the machine's manual, pushing the knob in, then counterclockwise turn and it won't come off!! Help! The thought of calling someone just to get the cap off is irritating as heck!! Thanks!
Caroline Rothenberg if the pump filter does not come off with a tiny bit of elbow grease. Do not try and force it. Unfortunately what I would suspect at this point is there is debris in the pump preventing it from turning. What would need to be done at this point is to remove the pump and try to remove any debris from the other side.
Caroline Rothenberg this is the procedure I am talking about.
ua-cam.com/video/sxlz0jvPPi0/v-deo.html
I’ll have to do this before moving to make the washer lighter
Thank you, I did the opposite & all the water came out fast, I will start with the tube first..
What happens if drain tube disconnects
Well… It leak until placed back on. To do so may require you pull out the washing machine. Flip it on its side and reconnect using the pressure clamp and some needle nose pliers.
Why not use a shop vac on drain hose to clear out water?
You just saved my actual literal life what a king 10/10
What happens if the little black tube falls out? Scared to run my machine again!
What would that small tube be called I lost mine and need to get a new one

I have an IGNIS front load (2 years). When I open, I do not see the drain hose just the plug. I can't get a grip with fingers so I guess I may need a bird beak pliers. Do I just pull it forward?
Ignis is different. There should be a flap/tray that drops. It releases a quart of water once opened. Unless you have water in the tank. As in my video you turn counter clockwise and the water will all leave out that large port.
To winterize, I assume anti-freeze is still needed - or does this remove all the water that could freeze?
I’m guessing RV situation? Typically yes antifreeze. After everything is drained and pumped out. Power on, place in warm cycle, and then place your antifreeze into the detergent tray wait till the drum is pretty full with antifreeze add as necessary. Make sure it does a drain cycle to get the antifreeze into the pump. Should protect your valves and gaskets. I would look into some other videos on how to go about that as seeing it is better than reading it. I haven’t done it in a long time.
Thank you so much
Help please!!! I cleaned out the washer filter just as you show in your video here. Put the filter back in and now the washer won't run. I have verified the filter is in correctly but it won't run because the door open symbol on the light board show open. The door of the washer is definitely closed and the filter is definitely on tight. What the heck is going on???
Why is it that my samsung washing machine now uses the filter to drain water instead of the drainage area at the back
The filter cap isn’t installed back correctly
My washing machine was put on self clean, then some how ,it has water sitting in it and the door is lock. Power is not coming on the washer. What do you think I should do?
It sounds like a clogged pump. This port could help drain it depending ing where the clog is. Unplugged it may release the lock, but be prepared for a mess.
My problem is the draining hose shrunk into the little hole when i tried to put the cap on. Now i cant get the hose back out and it keeps leaking. Any suggestions on how to fix this???
How did you get it out? Sam thing just happened to me 😢
The issue I’m dealing with is there is no water coming out of that little hose. When I pull the cap off, obv water gushes out.. but I see no other way to get the water out, & due to way the compartment is small & recessed & so low to the ground, I cannot find a container that fits in there without water leaking out all around it.. any suggestions how to handle this? Every towel in the house is soaked & i can’t open my washer bc it’s so full it pours out. Mine is an old model & can’t find a function to spin & drain without adding more water 🤦🏻♀️
I used a plastic cup with a bigger container nearby. I just squeezed the hose when the cup got full, then dumped it in the bigger container.
I’m having the same issue. I was able to get a little water out of the hose, but if I start to take the filter out, water starts gushing out, so I can’t remove the filter completely.
@@robnelson2 the water dripped down from the filter invisibly so much that it leaked through the floor to the lower floor ceiling, it's quite a disaster... The washer is standing on the carpet so the tenants that live there did not notice that the water is leaking...
Just got this washer used from someone, ran a cycle of hit water and vinegar, cleaned the filter, but no water is coming out of the drain hose???? I tried sticking stuff thru the drain hose and it doesnt appear anything stuck up in there.. pls help??
Does it make a sound like the pump is running? If it’s not working you may need a new pump or the clog could be under the tub where the main drain hose is. As I said in one of my other videos there was a tile stuck in that portion. If you check the port and no water comes out or trickles out chances are your clog is there. If not the clog is along the grey hose that runs along to the actual drain. Hard to say without seeing it or hearing what it’s doing.
Hi! I'm having trouble taking out the white circle, the filter out. Any suggestions?
I just did mine the other day and ran into this problem. Elbow grease did the trick. The gasket was getting old to so I put some gasket grease on it. Cleaned the area out of debris and reattached.
How do you drain these machines? I’ve done this and the washer still weighs a ton and won’t budge.
If there is still water in the main tub. You can start a cycle. The drain will initially kick in the empty the tank. Before it starts to fill. Power it off.
How to retrieve the tube back when its gone into the machine?
Remove the machine and flip on its side. Make sure it is drained and you have two people
Hi - Lately, I seem to have to do this after every cycle or I get an error code OE. I changed the drain pump but can't figure out why this is filling up so fast. It's always the same amount of water too. About 1-2 cups. Any ideas as to why this may happen? Wondering if I should get rid of the drain hose flap...
When you get an OE code this is due to water not draining properly or too much water entering the system. The drain procedure here might empty the washing machine. But that OE code could be pointing to a larger problem. You will need to check a few things. First I would check the drain hoses, including the big one on the bottom. I somehow was able to get one of those tile key finders lodged in there. Also check the pump which is located to the left of this filter housing. Make sure this line is clear. Once all drain houses are addressed to not have a clog. You’ll need to check other areas.
If that is clear you may have bigger issues that are easily resolved. Such as the water inlet sensor. This could be due to a stuck solenoid on the sensor and it is allowing too much water into the system. Or the sensor is simply faulty electrically, or clogged.
Other reasons for the code can be too much detergent but that usually figure a SUDS error but can also generate an OE code.
Since you state this filter drain is producing 1-2 cups of water. That seems pretty normal. As the pump can’t get all the water out of the system and some will stay there.
@@dissectingdiy Thanks so much for the thorough reply. I'm going to check the hoses more thoroughly and hope it's not a bigger issue. Will report back if I identify anything.
What do you do then the filter thing just spins and clicks but won’t release to pull it out?
Push cap inwards and then twist (like childproof medicine bottles)
Do you unplug the matchine from the waterlily first??
I did not unplug anything for this step.
@@dissectingdiy yeah, I didn't unplug it. Thank you so much. This saved our washer
Is there a reason why we have to do this?
The filter is designed to Trap large debris that could damage the pump and sometimes make its way into the drain system. Coins, keys, lint, hair can all build up there and acts as a buffer to keep the pump protected and working. It is also helpful in draining the system for repair.
Is there a faster way to drain it ? If it has an oe code
I have a cousin that puts a towel down and just twist the cap off. Instant drain but messy.
what do i do. i left glass in the washer so i ran it without clothes to empty it all and now its locked. the door wont open so i seached it up and it says to drain it BUT SO MUCH WATER IS COMING OUT!! what do i do im litterally only 12 and dont wanna tell my dad bc then hes going to take away my washing privledges 😭😭😭😭
If it is outside of your scope of expertise you need to tell your dad.
Starting a new cycle will cause the pump to kick in and drain the existing tank to a degree. But if you say there is water pouring out. It sounds like the gaskets to the front has been damaged. Or a piece of glass got stuck between to door and gasket keeping it slightly open. You don’t want to cause further damage.
If you are trying the method in the video. You are going to need a large bowl or bucket and drain it. It’s a slow process.
With that much water coming out you don’t want to create a shock risk. We all make mistakes. Tell an adult as they are better equipped to handle the situation.
I am having trouble putting the cap back on. Any advice I have been trying for the last 30 minutes
The big cap or the one that goes into the tube? Big cap: Was there any difficulty getting it off or anything stuck inside impeding your ability to put it back on. Small plug. I just squeeze the tub about a half inch up. And push back into place.
@@dissectingdiy Thank you for responding. Big cap. I cleaned out the tube and made sure nothing can be possibly blocking it from going back in…. And still having trouble. :(
What happens if water fall into the cover??
There’s a lot of water. Maybe half gallon? If water falls into the cover it will get all over the floor and under washer.
I've done thid plenty of times before but here lately i havent been successful. I do the calibration and no water comes out from the hose. I've tried 3 separate times already 😡
Help - filter is clean but the mini hose is blocked - how can we clear it?
Sarah MP im guessing you mean drain tube? Without seeing the situation it is hard to advise. But that tube leads to the chamber. I would feel around to see if there’s any gunk buildup to the left of the filter housing.
Just wanted to check in on your issue. Did you find a solution?
My cover doesn't have an opening on top so its difficult to pry it open.
@@kauigirl808 push it and see if it pops open. Some are on a spring loaded latch.

I got a samsung washer that still had water in it do I just drain the water or can I use spin cycle to drain it out
I would drain it. Just to check the filter is clean. Better to do all the preventive maint before putting it off too long. I would also run the self cleaning cycle. Just be aware it will get really hot and steamy in the laundry area during this clean cycle.
@@dissectingdiy thank you I have never owned one of these samsung washers
How often I have to drain the front drain?
Once a month is actually the recommended interval or every 40 washes, whichever comes first. I go about every 6 months. But do a self clean cycle every three months.
I accidentally pull the lid of that drain hose and the whole hose went down inside the machine, how can I take it out?
To retrieve the drain hose that has slipped inside your Samsung front-load washer, you'll need to access the inside of the machine. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you:
### Tools Needed:
- Screwdriver (Phillips or flathead, depending on your washer's screws)
- Pliers
- Towels or a small bucket (to catch any water that may spill)
### Steps:
1. **Unplug the Washer**:
- Safety first. Ensure the washer is unplugged from the power outlet.
2. **Turn Off the Water Supply**:
- Turn off the water supply to the washer to prevent any leaks.
3. **Access the Bottom Panel**:
- Most Samsung front-load washers have an access panel at the bottom front of the machine. This is usually where the filter and drain hose are located.
- Use a screwdriver to remove the screws holding the bottom panel in place. Keep the screws in a safe place.
4. **Locate the Drain Hose**:
- Once the panel is removed, you should see the filter housing and the area where the drain hose connects.
- Look for the point where the hose disappeared. It may have fallen inside, but you should be able to see or feel it.
5. **Retrieve the Hose**:
- If the hose is visible, use pliers to gently pull it back into place.
- If the hose is not immediately visible, you might need to carefully feel around the inside of the washer's base to locate it.
6. **Reattach the Hose**:
- Once you have the hose, reattach it securely to its original position. Ensure it is firmly connected to prevent any future leaks.
- Some washers have a clip or bracket that holds the hose in place. Make sure the hose is secured properly.
7. **Replace the Bottom Panel**:
- Once the hose is back in place, reattach the bottom panel with the screws you removed earlier.
8. **Turn On Water and Power**:
- Turn the water supply back on.
- Plug the washer back into the power outlet.
9. **Test the Washer**:
- Run a short cycle to ensure there are no leaks and that the hose is properly secured.
If you find the process difficult or are unable to retrieve the hose, it might be best to contact a professional appliance repair technician to avoid any potential damage to the washer.
If I accidentally pull out the drain tube, how do I reconnect it?
push it back in
I just did this now my washer isn’t pumping water..any help?
Something is stuck in the pump. Hose is plugged somewhere. Do you have kids with small socks? I’ve clogged my hole system up with one that went down the drain somehow.
Will this take care of 5 E issue?
Possibly, a 5E error does indicate a drain issue. This would be one of the first places I would check. Ensure the filter area is clear and feel to the right and left of the tube in the filter housing.
Do you have pets? A lot of hair can get trapped in the tub drain in the grey gasket where it meets the door. My wife’s hair has clogged it up on a few occasions.
Then check to make sure the drain hose to the rear where it goes into the plumbing is clear.
If this doesn’t work you may need to move the washer and drain it manually. Then flip on its side and check the black hose off the main tub for an obstruction. I had a tile finder sensor trapped in this area that created a 5E error in the past. These thing are really heavy so have someone help.
Thank you !!!! Thank you!!!!!
Does this also drain the water pump?
There might be some left but yes, the water pump is to the left of this service port.
I’m having a terrible time getting the filter out! I keep turning it but it doesn’t release. I’m afraid I’m going to strip the threads or something. Anyone have advice PLEASE?!
If the filter isn’t clogged. Try doing a hot load of laundry. Run hot water at your sink faucet to get hot water flowing through the pipes first. You don’t have to do a full load but can have washer fill with hot water. The stop and start a new load. This will drain the washer letting hot water pass through the pump and filter housing. Pre drain again using the tube and be careful with the hot water.
Then try again with firm pressure but as you said don’t overdo it as you can damage the filter housing. Inspect the gasket for damage or debris.
@@dissectingdiy I got it off, cleaned it and started a load thinking all was good. Next thing I know I got to check on it and My entire laundry room is flooded. Ugh. I drained it again, took filter off again, and put it back thinking I didn’t have it tight enough because it was leaking from the filter. I had capped the hose well. Nope….started leaking again despite being inserted properly. What else could be wrong with it?! The seal on the filter or?? Man, I’m at my whits end.
@@sunshinemee2570 may need a new gasket but without being there to see it understand my advice is limited to what you’re describing. Usually if it continues to leak. It can be debris in the threats. Needing to clean inside the housing of debris and much and may need to add a gasket rated silicone grease. Understand gasket removal and cleaning can break the gasket requiring replacement. If you don’t have one ready your washer will be down until then.

Don’t panic. Get a towel. It’s going to drain whatever is in the filter area
Ok have some time now. The tube is attached to the filter housing. Are you sure it did not detach?
I got the tube out with the help of a blackheadremover and nail scissors. On the blackhead remover (it has a curve with very sharp ending) was still the plastic thing. Obviously you have to be careful not to damage the rubber tube!
The sharp ending of the curved blackhead remover was covered with plastic, so it wasn’t sharp
