    mixing the breakfast components together was a great idea - the tomato sauce was an interesting addition as well! i was surprised to see the peanuts in this ration as i'd always heard those aren't that popular in Russia. i had the same issue with the drink in my Russian IRP, could not figure out what flavor it was supposed to be!! that chocolate spread looked decadent 🤤 молодец Jerms, well done!

    I'm glad you properly identified this ration. A lot of reviewers say it is a Russian special forces cold weather MRE. But it is actually NOT military issue and made for civilians. You can buy it at sporting goods stores. Russian sporting goods stores. It is, however, very similar to actual military issue Russian MREs and a lot of components are identical. However, a lot of components are straight out of a Russian grocery store! Haha! That coffee is fine. You are correct about the caffeine separation. I actually think I told you about that before. And I would be REAL careful with eating suspect meat items. The soft cans in Russian MREs are not designed to last forever like US MRE food. The food is not manufactured or processed the same like US MREs are and the packaging is not nearly as strong. You can very easily get E. Coli or Botulism from Russian MREs, especially expired ones, and they are apparently well known for doing that. It is also important to know, Botulism is odorless and tasteless and survives in an oxygen poor environment like inside a can. And the stuff is REAL nasty. I've eaten a few Russian MREs now and I can say that the liver pate tastes like straight up liverwurst in a can. That's the closest thing I can describe it to. Also, the apple jam tastes like the sweetest apple sauce you could imagine, only a bit thicker. At least that's how I thought it tasted like. Also, whatever app you used to translate the "beef stew" did not translate it properly. It is really stewed beef, or toshunka (Or however you spell it) and it is absolutely delicious! Best single Russian MRE food item BY FAR for me. It is more like a beef roast, but boiled. I was blown away at how good it was. You really should have tried it plain without adding all the extra stuff to it. It doesn't look so good, but it tastes amazing. I don't know exactly how they make it, but they get it right. The juice is more like a gravy. Perhaps the quality of the beef is different between the MREs, also the stuff I had was from a soft can. I don't know if that makes a difference, maybe a different manufacturer.

      @@jermsMRE Well thank you very much! I love your videos and look forward to more all the time. I think you do an honest review and cover all the components well. I am an MRE enthusiast too and collect MREs as well as eat them. I love to share my experience and see how it compares with your review. I think we are mostly on the same page and have very similar opinions. So, I actually have a request. I would absolutely LOVE to see you do a review on a US first strike ration. They are a 24 hour ration designed for the initial 48-72 hours of an offensive operation and are logistically easier to supply and the food is designed to be eaten on the go. I think they are really cool and I think you should try one out! They are a bit pricey at around $35, but it is a 24 hour ration with a lot of food. I hope to see you post a video review of one of those! I hope you have a great day an look forward to more reviews! Thanks for what you do.

      @@jermsMRE Hey Jerms! Just saw this. I am glad you already bought a case of first strike rations. It is a bit expensive, but it is cheaper per meal than buying them single. I guess you saw my donation. I hope that helps a bit. You asked me to pick a menu, so I would like to see you review Menu 4 Mexican beef wrap and BBQ chicken. I have that menu extra and I am going to eat it soon and would love to see you review it before I eat it. However, you can do whatever menu you like. I've never ordered a ration before, but I kinda wanna start when I can. Don't know if I'll make videos or not, but some stuff in these look really, really good. Especially this one. The mains just look absolutely delectable. I think I'd love it. I may have to try and seek it out.

    • @jermsMRE
      @jermsMRE  7 місяців тому +1

      It is a lot of fun! I tend to like the vintage rations the most just because they're like time capsules. But for eating, the foreign rations are so interested. But, can be pretty expensive and if you order from overseas, customs can and will open them and take stuff. So, not sure if you're in the US but if so, my advice is look for foreign rations from US sellers. 👍👍

    I good way to test if a meat product is safe to eat, is to try and offer some to a cat if you have one. It has to be a cat though. Don’t offer it to a dog because dogs will eat anything even if it’s gone bad. But cats have evolved to be able to smell bad unsafe meat and will not eat it (99% of cats at least). If your cats are willing to eat it, it’s safe for you to eat. But don’t actually let the cat really eat it though. So much preservatives in there. Not good for anyone really let alone a cat. But it is a trick you can use if you’re desperate but aren’t sure about a food product. (In all honesty though, liver pate really is just cat food lol. Looks like it, smells like it, so it must taste like it too)

    The thing with all things Russian is that they give things abroad that they don't have. In the case of this MRE, it is relatively certain that you will not see such foods in Russia itself.
    Things like "Pokazukha" and "Potemkin Village" have always been favorites in Russia. Both basically mean "outer shine with nothing behind it." This means that to other people things seem many times more beautiful than they actually are. This food falls under "Foreigners be jealous of Russian things". But it's all a big lie...

    And yet when the war in Ukraine started and the Russians had to abandon their tanks when they ran out of gas, instead of rations like these, there were literally bags of turnips and potatoes. As the war went on, the Russian military stopped supplying even that much and the poorer Russian soldiers had to forage for wheat sprouts out in Ukrainian fields.
