I think someone mentioned it, but that first can shouldn't have been heated. It's meant to be eaten cold like a paté - sliced out of the can and placed on a bread/cracker. Depending on the consistency it can be more or less spreadable; this one looks like it was very spreadable due to the rich fat content.
Yeah, I got some comments on that and then started kicking myself! I've got a newer one with the retort pouches I'm excited to review! Thanks for watching!!!
I read an article about Germans in WW2 Eastern front during winter, soldiers even with bread and other foods would get sick, until they were given a drink of almost pure fat then they would recover.
Nice to see a 24-hour review. Seems to be lacking on the few channels I watch. It's also nice to see Paul over here. Good job, and keep the 24 hours coming.
I've got a bunch more 24 hr rations 👍 They're a bear to film and edit though. Stay tuned!! Paul has a great channel!! I'm way behind and need to binge his videos. Thanks for watching!!
Hey Jeremy, just checking out one of your older reviews. Dude! Watching you eat that pork for breakfast made my gallbladder hurt! Still a lot of fun to watch!
🤣🤣 Hey Allan! This one was a bit rough. Understandable given the Nov 2022 date of production. Many comments said I should have eaten the breakfast cold. Which makes sense. I did get a newer Ukrainian with the retort pouches recently! So stay tuned for another try! Thanks as always buddy!!
Welcome back Jerms I’ve been really wanting to try one of these but they want like 80 bucks for one on Amazon. Thank you for your reviews again as always! Hope you are healing well still my brother, I agree with you on that breakfast you described it well. If I ate that whole main I would have serious diarrhea so good call on not finishing it I wouldn’t either
These are definitely not cheap! And a gamble when ordering over seas. Glad I had the opportunity. Thanks for watching Chris! I really appreciate you always being here brother!
@jermsMRE well 80 bucks is a real robbery! The price of this one in Ukraine is 7-10 bucks max. Now there is a mix of rations in Ukraine, this one looks like older type with metal cans. A few years ago was there was mre with packets, not cans.
i'm in agreement with you, dinner looked like the best meal out of all 3. i'm not normally a fan of honey but i loved those honey tubes! the packaging was very nice and it looked delicious!!
At least the meals made a steady improvement. The honey is usually really good. I agree. The difference from breakfast to supper isn't much difference. Still here.
Very cool friend. Good looking meal. I had the older version once. Some items look familiar, some different. Breakfast, puts me in the idea of, spitz, spitzk, pork fat I had from Europe, mine tasted like bacon. Kawa, Kasha, I always like. Glad you had some fun on this review. Peace, John. Stay safe friend.
Good video, talked to a Ukrainian friend of mine and they eat Salo on crackers for breakfast which is basically Pork Fat so I think your supposed to eat that breakfast Pork dish cold, sliced on the crackers, basically like a pate or Spam
Salo is supposed to be eaten cold (often with garlic and black pepper to balance the fat), while meat porridge is not. It's just that in Ukraine we are used to eat hearty fatty meals, and for the rations it's probably even more fat per meal. A lot of people reviewing mres (from what I've seen) don't really like such breakfasts :) Usual side dish is often fermented vegetables (cabbage, cucumbers, tomatoes) and that helps with cleansing the palate as well, but it's not something to be included in the mre... I'm happy that our modern rations improved greatly and have more vegetables and variety in general
If the idea of eating Salo seems odd, just think of it as having butter on crackers or bread. If you review any Russian rations, they will often include a flat flexible tin of the stuff. It will be labeled either сало(salo) or шпик соленын(shpek solenyn) which means salted bacon
It looked good but I know they may get bored with the same food flavor all day awesome review as usual I was going to try and get one of these back in the day when I was ordering from overseas I'm glad I didn't now
This was very cool to review and I certainly understand the difficulty they must have providing rations given the circumstances. I appreciate you watching brother!
Good afternoon from the Great State of Texas. Did this 24 hour meal package come with some sort of heating element and some sort of spoon/fork or did I miss this? How can I get one of these meals?
Good afternoon sir! This did not come with an accessory packet, no utensils or a means to heat the meals. I got this on eBay 👍 Just be careful ordering from overseas. Customs sometimes will open the ration and take all the meat products. Thanks for watching 👍👍
@@jermsMRE its base camp version, not really for frontline. And yes, a lot of meat and fat mean that if you will find anu carbs source like potatoes, pasta, bread etc, you can use it as "grease".
@@teodor4ik183 thanks for the comment! I have a other one on the way that is newer with the retort pouches. I'm excited to try it out! I appreciate you watching!
@@jermsMRE actually it is new and crapy one. As millions needed per week, producers of original ones cant make enough, so we have actually civil canned food packed as military ration by calories count and a lot of shugar to balance it. Not because it is newer or older, but because a lot of them needed. Just imagine, million packs a day. 2500 ton of food. Just to can it... So, any shit will be ok, just because there are nothing better in such quantities.
@teodor4ik183 I agree with what you're saying 💯 and I believe I mention in the video that given the date of production of November 2022, it was all about doing what they could to feed the troops. I have a new one coming that has the retort pouches so I'm excited to try that out! Thanks for watching!!
ooooo yes, love this. Yeh I some of it can look like dog food.. but if you cook it its great and if you mix and match some of this and this MRE can be a 100% awesome
Interesting ration. I've never seen a Buckwheat Kasha w/pork, & a Barley Kasha w/pork before. The breakfast looked like a Pork Toshonka (pork cooked in its own fat & juices). Never seen a Ppork Toshonka before either.
I hope no one did the Shot for Fat challenge.. they'd be trashed 🤣🤣 Pork with groats is good.. I wish I could get some in the US. Thanks for the video brother
Dude!!! I'm hammered playing your drinking game! Fat, fat, fatty! x12 so far! Awesome review dude. Even tho there's no Hot Dawags! It's pork so it's awesome in my book!
I suspect the breakfast pork slurry would be more useful in larger cooking, like in flavouring a mess of potatoes or making a soup without the meat or maybe even no vegetables on hand. You could throw anything in a pot with that pork and call it soup.
I've had other comments saying the same thing and it totally makes sense now! Hopefully I'll be able to find another and give that a shot. Thanks for watching 👍👍👍
These are not military dishes, these are civilian canned foods that are sold in stores. Perhaps this ration was created in a hurry due to the shortage of standard rations in 2022. In the standard version, all dishes are packed in soft bags
I think you're absolutely right. I think I mentioned in the video that given the date packed, they were doing whatever they could to feed the troops. I've seen other reviews of these with the retort pouches and they look much better. Just need to get my hands on one! Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍👍👍
I mean it’s really no different than any other Russian military ration. Why would anyone expect the western part of Russia to have different food than the eastern part of Russia?
I want to add a note. Ukrainians love pork and adore lard. What's counted as heavy on fats for others is just fine for Ukrainian. That's why we have dozens of recipes to smoke, salt, flavour, and generally make a lot of things with salo.
The flavors were there. Just needed something to go with and some variety. But given it was packed in 2022, I get it. They were just doing what they could. Thanks for watching!! I appreciate it!!
Yeah, I've gotten many comments on that mistake. If I ever get another one of these, I definitely won't heat it up. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!
I saw a review of a Ukranian ration by Steve1989 about 2 years ago, and the ration was one of the best out there. This thing here is a massive nose dive in quality, borderline disgusting. It's just a pork fat fest.
It definitely was not the greatest. But given the date when it was produced in 2022, I'm sure it was tough to try and feed the troops given what's going on. Thanks for watching Karl! I appreciate it 👍👍
Ive been to Ukraine during these hard times going on so ive saw how they have their mres and you not putting the honey in the tea is the only thing you didn't do that they do
Well, people are not their governments, fortunately. But one thing we can all agree on is that war is ugly, and we should be praying for all the people affected by this war. My big question is why has there been no serious peace talks yet. A whole generation of young men are being slaughtered over there. We here in Europe can really feel the effects of this war. We want peace! God bless and lots of love from Norway.
Indeed, war is very ugly and tragic for all. Such needless loss of lives. It needs to end. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching. I appreciated it.
What kind of piece talks are you waiting for? ruZZia have only one wish in mind - Give up. I can understand why these ones are not liked. The one I reviewed a couple weeks ago with the retorts was light years better! Thanks for watching from Ukraine! Stay safe! Thanks for watching!
I wouldn't say garbage. But not the best. As a military ration, it checks all the boxes for the basic needs for a soldier. I'd love to try a current one to see if they have changed since 2022. Thanks for watching!
