Akbash vs wolf - akbaş köpek vs kurt
Our video today is about an Akbash dog fending off a wolf. The Akbash is a traditional breed of livestock guardian dog, used to protect flocks from predators in the rugged terrain of western Anatolia. It is distributed mainly in the provinces of Afyon, Ankara, Eskişehir and Manisa; some are present in the provinces of Agri, Konya, Sivas and Tunceli.
These amazing pups are very protective of their families and have strong guarding instincts. They're big dogs and better suited for larger homes with yards or near open areas where they can roam around.
As we mentioned in some of our previous videos, that each dog differs from the other even if they are from the same breed. A dog raised on a farm and trained to run around daily for miles and fending off wild animals will be a lot different to the one living in a bed room and sleeping all day.
Farmers have used livestock guarding dogs for centuries to protect their livestock against all kinds of predators. This Akbash was guarding the livestock when it spotted a wolf approaching. when wolves attack livestock, they focus on the animals that are easiest to kill. Usually the wolves will avoid confrontation with dogs, unless they have nothing else to eat or the dog is standing in between them and the prey. Secondly wolves usually hunt at night time, they hardly come out to hunt during the day and will certainly not come close to a farm if humans are around even if it's night time. This wolf must be extremely hungry to walk into an area guarded by livestock guarding dog and its owner. Not only walking into the area but also challenging the dog. Good job that the dog was well trained for such situations and it did what it was supposed to do. The Akbash dog literally destroyed this wolf and showed him who was the boss.
I ve seen this dogs dealing with european brown bears and west asian hyenas, bringing down big wild boars. I am not saying they are dogs with super powers, but good breed Kangal , Akbash or Anatolian with the spike collor would do his job (protect) against any predator.
So me the video a dog beat a grizzley bear then?
They can't defeat them one on one
@@jamesdinkelmann8704 of course they can't defeat certain predators one on one that's why you have a pack of dog genius.

@@shawnmoore1726 You are a pitbull owner of course whose only claim to fame is to try and take on a bull that has for weapons two horns. Ooops, those were the ancestors of pitbulls, my bad. Pitbulls are only good for fighting other dogs that are lighter than they are. Give a pitbull to an Akbash, Cane Corso or a Kangal and it would be goodnight pitbull, just need a shovel for the mess.
Akbaş is a dog with a history of 3,000 years. Akbash is the ancestor of the Pyrenean Dog in France. Shepherd dogs migrated to Europe from Asia. They have a known history of 3,000 years.
Kangal is before akbaş. Maybe 4-5000 years old.. thats why akbas is much wilder than kangal..

They don't need much training. They are put in the flock as pups and the adult dogs give them guidance. Like water dogs love water, flock guarding dogs love guarding.
No need training.. akbaş is as wild as a Wolf. Kangals too. Akbaş is the best in the night.. they are the white killers in the night at the farm
Wow great dog. Well trained . Similar to a Kangel
Could do with a Kangal where I live lots of immigration going on maybe maybe use that dog
Akbash shepherd is underrated dog
Has good stamina has power and strenght and more agressive and dominant is more open to fighting than kangal
A few years ago there was a video of Akbash mopping the floor with a pitbull like it was nothing. I believe them to be the true pure and powerful guard dog
I have also seen Malamutes and English Mastiffs do the same. The size difference and pure power makes a difference.

Must be a lone wolf that was exiled in the pack, which is usually the weaker wolf.
@joker jj This is not true. Wolves have a bite force greater than any dog. It all depends on the individual dog.
@@c.san.8751your wrong, most wolves average 400-450psi but have sharper teeth, compared to the 750psi from the kangal
@@owenparker7076 There are 26 dog breeds whose bite force was documented to exceed 700 PSI.
There are only 3 documented measurements of Grey Wolves bite force in PSI. Two of which were non-official. First one is a controversial one done by Nat Geo biologists, who many claim was ‘’not tested properly.’’ The other two were done by private biologist organisations. The first one, by Nat Geo, gave a result of 406 PSI. The other two; 661 PSI and 580 PSI respectively.
Meaning the highest recorded bite force for grey wolves, stands at ‘’only’’ 661 PSI - for now.
Many biologists believe wolves can bite down much, much harder than that and the estimated bite force is upwards of 800 PSI - up to a maximum of 1,200 PSI - depending on the size of the wolf and its skull.
The reasons for that are mainly the following:
As a rule, wolves have 18-25% bigger skull to body ratio compared to dogs, meaning that a wolf will have an 18-25% larger skull compared to a dog of the same size.
There are dogs (specifically 26 dog breeds) who can bite down with the pressure of over 700 PSI, while having much smaller skulls, weaker skull structure and weaker jaw muscle structure than wolves.
A female spotted Hyenas bite, was measured at 1,091 PSI, while having a similar size skull to an average grey wolf, stronger skull structure and weaker jaw muscle structure.
Now, due to these three above mentioned reasons, biologists believe that a large grey wolf specimen, should be able to pretty easily bite down well over 800 PSI - up to anywhere around 1,200 PSI - which considering the dogs who bite over 700 PSI and Hyenas who bite well over 1,000 PSI - seems not only realistic but very highly and easily possible.

The wolf would have been harder apponent to if the dog never had the collar with metal spikes around it
And why would a farmer/shepherd do that? The spiked collar is there to serve it’s purpose.
Spike collar is to protect the dogs neck obviously
See all good saying about these dogs killing wolves but there are much bigger ones out there, also these dogs that end up killing these wolves only catch the weak/starving or older wolves that are on their way out or looking for a meal as unable to catch a wild animal no more so then they end up risking their lives by taking a farm animal and some gets caught by these dogs, also don't forget these dogs have also had a good meal in them and been generally looked after which the wolf haven't and had to fend for itself, also the dogs normally got throat protection as that is the main area for a kill so the wold can't even grab the dogs throat to rip it out, but I bet these dogs haven't been up agains a fit and healthy Mackenzie valley wolf with the bite force of about 1,200 psi and are really big compared to the other wolf breeds.

@@klodianberisha9696 you know nothing about wolves my friend, just stop it with this delusional idea that a dog could actually defeat a wild predator, dogs have a very weak bite force, it won't do any damage like a wolf, it will take just one bite from the Wolf to cripple the dog and then that's it, so just go and watch some documentaries about wild life man and stop your fairy tales, oh and by the way there's no huge wolves in Turkey, European wolves are about the size of the Mexican wolf, pretty sure you know nothing about the Mexican wolf either lol
That depends on you definition of "a lot" European Wolves are smaller, but not like Middle Eastern Wolves who are the size of Coyotes or Jakals...
Omg I thought a pit had a mean shack game
Curiosity: The Akbash and the Pyrenean Dog are the most used dogs in the United States to protect sheep and other animals from wolves (these wolves are the same ones that live in Yellowstone National Park) and from bears, obviously not facing them but the scaring, there are records of akbash packs and pyrenean hound scaring wolf packs
Wolf-packs generally would prefer to avoid each other if there is no need to fight. Prey animals are abundant in the United States. Wolves see medium to large dogs as wolves and dogs see wolves as dogs. (wolves/dogs are just man-made categories) If your family has plenty of food available, would you go through the trouble of stealing your neighbor's food?
Wolf packs only go for livestock animals if:
1. There is no other dog or wolf pack around
2. It's winter and desperate for food.
3. Humans destroy wildlife areas reducing and taking away territory and prey animals available for wolves.
