- Large dogs have always been valued for many qualities: they are excellent watchmen, defenders, shepherds, hunters, bloodhounds, and even babysitters. But first of all, they are good and loyal friends. In this video we are going to talk about the Top 20 largest dogs in the world you won’t believe exist.
8 Leonberger
Leonberger is truly a gentle giant, and he is undoubtedly playful and friendly. Tremendously calm, confident, and good-natured, many are reminded of the 'King of the Jungle.' Although always graceful and powerful, there are other reasons the Leo is likened to a lion. Bred was initially the perfect family companion. Although they may sound like the clear choice, this breed is not for everyone; grooming, training, and exercise all require a high amount of effort. Leonberger’s height is usually from 65 to 80 cm and the weight varies from 45 to 77 kg.
7 Akita-Inu
Another giant on our list of biggest dogs in the worldis a pet born in Japan. Now, this particular breed became world-famous after the movie about Hachiko, a faithful friend who waited for his owner for nine years until his end. The original goal of Akita-Inu is to hunt bears, boars, and deer. These dog representatives are excellent guards. Best suited to a one-dog household Akita can be a good family dog in the right hands.The average height of this dog reaches 61-70 cm while its average weight varies from 40 to 52 kg.
6 Irish wolfhound
Irish wolfhounds are considered the tallest dogs in the world, were initially bred to pull men off horses and chariots in battle. Today, this breed is a popular family companion with owners taking advantage of the breed's intelligence for use in hunting and obedience competitions.
Irish wolfhounds do well with children and are friendly with other animals. Their friendly behavior makes them poor guard dogs, but their size generally intimidates potential intruders before they realize the dog only wants to play. This breed usually is around 85 cm in height and 55 kg in weight.
5 Turkish Kangal
The Kangal dog takes is perfectly trainable, devoted to protecting its owners and their property. She gets along well with other pets, loves children, and sometimes even can act as a babysitter. Kangals are one of the strongest dogs in the world, and in some countries, they are still used to protect cattle from wolves and cheetahs. The cons of this breed are that they require a great deal of exercise, and the immense size makes apartment living virtually impossible. Kangal’s average height is 71 to 81 cm while it weighs 43 to 65 kg.
4 Great Dane
Another one of the biggest dog breeds in the world is the one that is commonly called the "Gentle Giant," the Great Dane. This dog was initially bred to hunt wild boar. While the breed's giant size is often intimidating, the Great Dane is actually very well mannered, sweet, affectionate, and gentle with children.
Great Danes size can make it difficult for them to be ideal house dogs, so training is necessary. Great Danes are frequently considered the tallest dogs in the world which is not surprising since they can be 110 cm in height and weight 75kg.
3 Saint Bernard.
Saint Bernard is widely known as one of the biggest dogs in the world with a tender heart. Originally bred to rescue travelers and guard travel lodges in the Swiss Alps, Saint Bernard is a gentle, intelligent, muscular dog.
Despite the breed's giant size, they prefer being indoors with their family. This can be a love-hate relationship as Saint Bernards are very friendly, easygoing, and generally happy to lie down and sleep while their family does their thing. These massive dogs have the average height of 65 to 85 cm and can weigh 110 kg.
2 Spanish Mastiff
The Spanish Mastiff is one of the heaviest dogs in the world, and they have been around for a couple thousand years or more. They are easily distinguished by their size and the two massive hairy folds of skin that hang off their neck. While they are not fully recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC), they have been assigned the Working Dog group in the AKC's Foundation Stock Service since 2008. Spanish Mastiffs usually reach around 87 cm in height and 115 kg in weight.
1 English Mastiff
Number one on our list and biggest dog in the world, is English Mastiff. Initially bred for war, thisgiant mastiff is one of the most massive and oldest dog breeds in the world. While the mastiff's ancestors were fierce war dogs, the mastiff today has a docile kind-hearted temperament. Mastiffs make fine companions for anyone who can accommodate their great size and doesn’t mind a little drool slung here and there. If you’re looking for a 90 cm dog that weighs as much as 120 kg and has lots of love to give, this may be the pooch for you!

I love dogs
I bought a cute lil white ball of fur from a breader selling at a flee market. I absolutely fell in love with him right away. About a month later I noticed how much he’d grown as I couldn’t put him in my purse and take him with me. I finally looked at the papers I was given at the time of purchase and my cute little ball of fur with piercing blue eyes was a great pyrenees, Great Dane, and St Bernard mix and I could have gone through the floor. Lucky for me my pastor had a ranch and I bought him there. This lil fur baby grew to be enormous. I treated him like a baby and he would stay weekends with my mom and dad who treated him like a baby. He never left my mom side. AMAZING how gentle he was with us and really enjoyed being house with the horses.
Akita, had one for 15yrs. Wonderful, protective & very ❤️ loving
I have a Boerboel and trained and registered him as a therapy dog and we have visited schools and nursing homes for last 7 yrs. He will be 11 in August and has the best disposition of any dog I have ever had. I love him very much.

I have a Newfoundland and English Mastiff, slobber and hair EVERYWHERE but they are SOOO sweet to everyone and everything. My goal is to add a Dane to the pack, or the leonberger. I live in the country with a pond nearby and it gets used quite often. But all in all the Newf is my absolute FAVORITE

HOW A GREAT DANE GOT RID OF MY FEAR OF DOGS: I was always very scared of dogs until at age 23,I was in London,UK, when a woman was walking a very Large GREAT DANE loose, I had no where to go, closed businesses on one side of the street n in front of me a busy road in front of me,so I stood still n the GREAT DANE just walked by me n at that moment the fear left me n I'm now a devoted dog lover, owner n trainer of many different breeds .

Our Old English Mastiff weighed 180 and gave us a puppy that was 240 pounds. Both were great lovable dogs.

My first dog was an English Mastiff. His name was Bacchus and he grew to be 195lbs of pure love and affection. He was gentle, loyal and and incredible with children.
I have an English Mastiff now 204 lbs. 31 inches at shoulders He is friendly to those he knows BUT if he doesn't know you, you should Not just walk into my house. And for people watching this video a lot of those pictures were photo shopped compare to the size and weight of a bear. if those dogs were as big as the pictures they would be well over 400 or 500 lbs.
@@gutterfalcon2912 My real issues with all the large breeds is heath issues. In my life I have had 2 Great Danes, a Bull mastiff and now a Neo Mastiff. I get between 10 and 12 years out of each and to be honest the hart brake of only having them for such a short time really pulls on your hart as if trained correctly there all great members of your family.
My bottom line of the best in my opinion, Great Danes, but be warned when it's there time to go, you will find it very difficult to get over the lose. I just can't do anymore Danes, it's just to much to loose. I currently foster a Neapolitan Mastiff and find then kind of stand offish and more independent then all the rest. Again they also have a very short life span.

I grew up with 3 Komondorok. They are a guard dog first and a family pet second.
I remember speaking to a breeder of Irish Wolfhounds at a Ren-Faire and one thing that was mentioned was that for all their power, speed and agility they actually have quite fragile bones. AFAIK the same can be said about the Scottish deerhound but I may be mis-remembering.
I live Irish Wolfhounds ❤️My friend has a male and a female. The female stepped on my foot and broke 3 toes. Lol. Gentle giants. But yes, very fragile bones

I’m a first time dog owner and I choose the great English Mastiff.
Even though people told me that I was making a mistake by getting such a big animal, I know that she’s the best choice for my family.
Our girl is very friendly and loves children, other dogs and all people in general. She is very well behaved but I’m making sure that I train her and she’s under my control. I take her to my daughter school everyday and she responds very well to a child with autism, it’s almost like she knows that she needs to be extra gentle with this boy.
She’s definitely a gentle giant that think she’s a lap dog.

I just got a Newfoundland/Poodle mix, (aka, Newfypoo) and he fits the description spot on with the Newfoundland in this video. He is such a good family dog and likes to please his owner. He's very energetic though bounding here and there, but very obedient and easy to train. He has big paws, perfect for swimming, but also perfect for hitting his owner in the twig and berries when standing. He's a fairly large dog with beautiful curly poodle hair.
I had two sibling Newfies, Jake and Elwood, Elwood weighed 195 and lived to 10, Jake, who was the runt of the litter, weighed 156 and lived to 14.
All of them are amazing !! I absolutely love big breeds like that.

I had a newfoundland dog and he was MASSIVE, and also gentle. A bit crazy too, because he ran around a lot and sometimes hit trees with his head. A real ram. Then I had to move to other places and couldn't keep him, so I gave him to a gentle woman who already had that same dog but female and also horses to run around with. Later I learned that they had puppies.
I love the Boer boel so much. Its muscular and smooth fur(flat coat). The head looks like a face cap. When its calm he has an adorable look but that is opposite in face of danger.
Great danes are my favorite. I have 3 myself. Their personality is the best, and they are so beautiful

First, Pyrenees Mastiffs and Great Pyrenees are two different breeds of dog. Second, Bernese Mountain dogs are of Swiss origin, not Russian.

Great Pyrenees: Montagne des Pyrénées or Patou in French, they are a big dog, white fur and small head.
Pyrenees Mastiff is his cousin spanish breed, they are huge body, had a big head and 2 ton color fur.

We have an olde English tiger mastiff,just turned 1 year old he already stands 32"at the shoulder and weighs 197 lbs.he eats an all raw diet,both meat and vegatables,he is super loving but has a mean streak outside of our pack and yet his best friend is our 4 lbs rabbit

When I was a young child, my 2best friends were saints and they were amazing dogs. The male had even saved my mom when they were walking in the woods and she fell and broke her leg badly. He was somehow able to bring her back home.

I had a Neapolitan Mastiff named Emma Jane Marple Jr. and she was the most loving and loyal dog! I absolutely LOVED her! She was my girl! She has been gone now for 10 years and I still miss her! What she left behind are memories that I hold close to my heart and cherish of the time I had with her!
They’re all beautiful and GINORMOUS!! I have to say I almost cried for that poor wolf and other little dog getting killed by those other dogs, DAMN THEYRE VICIOUS WHEN THEY FEEL THEY NEED TO BE!!! We must always be grateful and respectful that these animals are so loyal and gentle with us because they’re still wild animals at heart as we can see. I love them!!!

To some degree, you're right, and I have even used that quote myself.
Albeit, as a woman, I can honestly say that no-one messes with me when they see my dog.
So, in that sense, size matters.

We have had 4 different mastiff types
6 weeks ago we were given a Italian Mastiff! He is now 4 months old !
We have 4 other fur family members! They are all working well together so far! I have enough room and 40 plus years of experience with all sizes of k-9 but far from expert send good vibes please! I do use a excellent vet and have a trainer in my neighborhood that helps me!

We have an English Mastiff, and adore her. We keep towels in every room to catch the drool and slingers 🤣 When she climbs on my bed I'm nailed to it until my husband rescues me, she's too heavy for me to push off, and she can almost put her head on the kitchen counter which makes cooking more fun. But she's a gentle and loving lap dog. Wouldn't change her for the world.

Things wrong with this video that I saw. 1: when showing the Akita, you meant the American Akita and you showed images of the Japanese Akita as well which people know it is a small breed. And second when showing the English Mastiff you showed images of a Kangal.
Yeah, other wrong thing was mixing up pyrenees mastiff and great pyrenees which are 2 completely different breeds

Borzoi are surprisingly majestic when they jog around.
Like yes they are big, but they are also super thin and when they hop around it’s like they’re gliding through air or somehow they have natural anti-gravity abilities built into them.

Knew a coworker who had a Great Dane. Walked down the hallway, dog comes the other way, it brushed me on the way; basically tossing me into wall.

while i know your heart is in the right place, you can’t compare dog breeds with race. each dog breed will behave similar to their breed standard. american pit bull terriers are prone to dog aggression, american akitas are also very prone to dog aggression, whereas a golden can be great with other dogs. breed does matter in a lot of circumstances

I used to have a Great Dane big but gentle but he sadly died 8years ago
For me the Boerboel is the best breed there , very healthy with very few issues , can get as heavy as 100kg in good healthy shape , got the worlds strongest dog bite , stronger than a lion . Very loyal and does not need to be taught how to guard or protect . That said , not a dog for a novice or weak owner , in nature or strength . Likes to have a job to do aswell .

Thank you. We have 3 Boerboels, we love them. Not for the faint at heart. Very intimidating and just what we need to protect our property. Their bark is like a lion. Gotta love them.
@@queenqueenb7485 The Kangal dog has the strongest bite. They can live past 13 years old too.
