- UK-animated commercials from the Richard Williams Studio, mostly from the late 70s and early 80s.
Animation maestro Richard Williams (The Thief and the Cobbler, Who Framed Roger Rabbit) found great success doing animated commercials in the UK, but his greatest goal was to learn from the great animators of the past, like Ken Harris, Art Babbit, Grim Natwick and Milt Kahl, and pass their knowledge on to his own studio and the animators of tomorrow. Richard was successful in doing this and many animators who worked under the brilliant, mad perfectionist went on to found their own studios, and to work on the great Disney films of the late 1980s and 1990s.
Richard never quite finished his dream project The Thief and the Cobbler (viewable on UA-cam in a Recobbled Cut), as it was eventually financed by Warner Brothers, who went cold on the idea and took the film away from him.
These days Richard is known for having written perhaps the best book ever written on animation- The Animator's Survival Kit. Every animation student should have one, and probably does. There is also a 16 DVD set of the same title where Richard explains his techniques, which is even better, but far more expensive.
Okay, that tictac commercical is AWESOME
It's impossible to not recognize Williams hands behind all these gorgeous and super fluid animations.
I would kill to see another Tic -Tac commercial like the one here. One of the best ads I've ever seen.
Are there any more clips?
At 0:58 you can see the queen's eye twitch a little. Nice touch.
Wow, I wonder how Richard felt animating Goofy, Mickey, and Donald? Him and his team must've found that kinda funny
Richard Williams was and is a better animator than Disney Studios ever was.
Imo he is the king of 2D animation.
He's good, and you can fault Disney for a LOT of things, butt the quality of their animation isn't one of them (except during their "cheap period" in the 70s and early-to-mid 80s, of course).
@@mmitchellhouston Well their animation is top-notch for sure, but it still rarely reaches the consistent fluidity of Williams's works. He was a perfectionist who opted to animated on 1's whenever possible, which just makes it look better than Disney.
However I would say Bambi and other Disney movies of that era accomplished perfectionism, especially for the time.
Totally
Easily the best version of the mirror on the wall.
Richard Williams is an incredible animator!
Be amazing in all things... even if they're just advertisements.
great artist..
he had to make these beautiful animation for the dark forces like coke, and al the other sugar bombs.. none the less i admire these ads
Animation so good it cured my headache.
Out of all the films that combined animation with live action, who framed Roger Rabbit does it the best.
Is it just me, or is there usually more variety in the character designs of animated commercials than in tv cartoons and animated features? I see so many interesting animation ideas in a lot of these british ads, as well on alot of American ads from the postwar era. Especially Hubley's Maypo commercials.
Ahh.. Awesome vibes.
The Williams Novelties one is really interesting, as it’s reused animation from the introduction of A Christmas Carol (1971) without the effects or original titles.
Very Nice! Thanks for sharing.
That was a fun diversion.
Ah,I see. Thanks for the tip.
i like the noir one, especially with that sin city style animation but really, who would turn down sex for fucking tic tacs?
Pretty sure Diet Coke wasn't available in 1947, yet...
Is that John Mills' voice in that Johnson's Cotton Buds ad?
What's the german scwabish hall commercial really about? Can anyone here tell me?
