      This is reminds me of when my grandma died back in 2016. Felt like my heart just got stabbed and never forget how much sadness and grief I had for 3 months since June of 2016. As the day she passed, I was like I can’t go to school or try to read a eulogy of her life. It took me hard the youngest grandson of 14 years old losing a grandmother. It aches my until the following Monday will mark 7 years since her passing. I wanna go back. As it reflects my feelings about her wake and funeral I wanted to say how I got to spend time with her for 14 years before she went home with her family in heaven.

    • @mahmamia5100
      @mahmamia5100 Рік тому +79

      Lowkey Angela was one of the best characters on the show. She didn't care that Phil liked to wear dresses and lingerie. It was what made him happy, and she had no problem honoring his wish to be buried in something he liked to wear. All that mattered to her was that he was a good husband and father. She knew that his taste in clothing had nothing to do with whether he was a good or bad person - it was just a part of him, like how Blanche liked to dress flashy and sexy, or how Rose liked to dress cozy.
      We need more Angelas in life.

    Just wanted to day a few things.
    Dorothy looks great for her brothers funeral, the chanel earings and blanches red dress, and sophias pearl choker all classy.
    When my granmother buried her oldest son who died from cancer i was sitting next to her at rhe cemetery. I remember when they began to lower the casket she started singing rock a bye baby really sofltly.
    She had him when she was 16 years old and had four daughter, he was her only son.
    Sophias reaction to her sons death reminds me of that day.
    Anyway, i was a kid when these aired. I remember saturday at eight oclock i would watch this with my grandparents. Then empty next would come on next and then j had to go to bed. I miss being a kid and i miss being taken care of my grandparents and watching these classics together. and her repeated brutal Sicilian Mafia stories. My brother was in the Roya Navy. in the 1970s his ship was in Sicily and he and some friends went ashore. They found a restaurant down a narrow back street. it was very old fashioned and there was a tiny elderly ldy visible out the bck, doing the ironing with and iron plugged into the ceiling light fitting. They soon had a few drinks and were enjoying the lovely food and being Military they soon started community singing All of a sudden a man dashed in shouting something.. and they urgently asked to be quite. A line of expensive cars in convoy pulled up and people got out and went into the retauarnt next door Someone in the restaurant said in English.. quiet.. its the family. Then, in came a heavy who spoke to the manager and shook his hand.. they were then told.. the family thank you for your respect, please carry on singing and enjoying yourselves. they somehow lost their appetites. drank up and paid up and left silently.. lol lol lol.. he said it was a very sobering little experience. It turns out the restaurant next door was run by the same people. A scouting party of heavies had ordered he silence initially.. lol lol lol. My brother's brush with the Sicilian Mafia. lol lol.

    I heard once that Estelle Getty was always very uncomfortable whenever the subject of death came up; must have been a challenge for her to do an episode in which a character had died. Golden Girls didn't shy away from funerals and such. I wonder why she had that quirk. Maybe something in her childhood created a traumatic memory.

    • @NiVi192
      @NiVi192 Рік тому +41

      Interesting observation. I too remember Betty White saying in an interview that Estelle was mortally afraid of death and basically tried to oppress that by getting facelifts, by working nonstop (until her illness in 2000) etc. Could be the result of a childhood trauma or the general fear of losing control (which the fear of death is often tied to, cause that's clearly the last thing you can control). Furthermore, unlike her character Sophia, Estelle wasn't very religious...and regardless of what you think of the church, deep faith can actually take a lot of that fear away. Speaking of religion, if anyone here is afraid of dying/not existing is a far more common in the modern Western world than it is in Far Eastern and African cultures. So, nobody knows what'sand sometimes that look over to the other side of the big pond is very helpful.
