Carol Burnett Show - The Family - Password Elephant Story 1&2

- Full episode of The Family featuring both versions of the infamous Elephant Story. The episode featuring the Elephant Story #1 originally aired on Nov. 7, 1977. Elephant Story #2 was filmed during the 2nd filming of the episode. They always filmed twice, took the best of both, edited it together that is what is aired on TV. Because of Vicky's curse word and because they found the footage unusable due to time, they decided not to air the 2nd version but thought it too valuable to be wasted. So they sold it to Dick Clark who featured it on an episode of "TV's Bloopers and Practival Jokes" a new, popular TV show at the time which would eventually turn into a lucrative powerhouse through syndication and from the many VHS/DVD releases in which the Elephant Story was featured. Vicky is quoted as saying that the decision to sell it to Dick Clark ended up putting her children through college from the royalties she would eventuallly receive.
I grew up watching the Carol Burnett show and I'm 52. This is the type of family entertainment I miss.
46 and loved watching reruns with family.
@Alina McPherson Carol, Vikki, Tim, Harvey ftw
I was a little kid in the 70's. So I got to see some of these shows. You are 1000% right. Shows like this are long gone and that's SAD. Carol was and is a COMEDIC GENIUS. She had a incredible cast. Tim Conway, Vicki Lawrence, Harvey Korman, as well as so many amazing guests. Like this skit. Dick Van Dyke. Just epic actors. Top of their craft and just awesome. If and when they did break the 4th wall I was loosing it with them. It was always fun. Carol Burnett was and IS ALWAYS THE BEST.
49 and I LOVED that show. My assistant at work and I, she has been there for 20 years since she was 19 and me for 21, still laugh when I call her Mrs. Wiggins with the Conway voice. So glad Amazon Prime has them now.
I turned 52 in Feb, and you are correct. This was one of the best in our earlier years.
The writing and acting was so good. A note to younger viewers, there really were tons of people like this in the past. Every family had relatives like this. They even dressed like this.
Wish they still made comedy shows like this.
Everyone in this skit is a comedy legend, but Tim Conway is on another level of comic genius.
Dick Van Dyke was never that good.
He was on an episode or two of the show Coach, he was amazing.
@@dwpalme2670I think he’s great!
@@Jess-k6qNot on Tim's level. Tim was making me laugh up until the 90s on "Married with Children" and "Mad About You". Timeless comedian.
Tim Conway was like a shark. He would circle his "prey," and then when the timing was right, he would strike.
Such a funny, funny man.
The last minute of the "aired" skit was so emotional. She is a brilliant actress. Not only one of the best ever comedians, but she also had such depth. You can see Eunice evaluating her entire existence, and using only her eyes and facial expression breaking our hearts. I'll say it again...brilliant. Peace.
Preach it.
Idem.!!!!
}
Damn Right
I thought the same thing. It’s like a scene out of Tennessee Williams.
My favorite part is where Tim and Dick roll off the arms of the sofa together like it was choreographed. Beautiful!
Here here
This is great you get to see the whole skit and the Elephant story an all time classic
And Dick Van Dyke getting drunk in the skit knowing he would have a serious drinking problem later makes his part kind of sad
This is one of my absolutely favorite Tim Conway moments, no matter how many times I see it it is still a hilarious as the first time I saw it
I’ve totally lost count how many times I’ve watched the Elephant Story and shared it too. It has to be one of the best. Conway knew he had them from the get go.
watch the video,..."the elephant explained"...
Grew up watching Carol Burnett. One of the greatest shows ever. My kids even like this show
I'm impressed Carol lasted as long as she did before completely losing it.
Here is a great interview with Vicki Lawrence about the elephant story.

Forty-five years later, and it still stands the test of time. Comedic genius right there.
yes it does 😂😅
This show was brilliant. Cracked me up as a kid. I'm glad these episodes are available here.
Oh how I miss these shows from when I was a kid. Every single person could watch every episode with no concern about their kids seeing it! Those were the days!!!
Gayle Wilson, I agree with you 💯
Watched this a lifetime ago as a kid and it’s still the best thing ever! Oh what an ensemble of comedic geniuses!!
This might be one of the funniest episodes in tv history
I grew up with this show! Never missed it. LOVE IT!
Still the funniest outtake ever! Thanks for posting the full scenes. My middle name is Carol, after the one and only. My mom loved her, and raised me watching her. Such an iconic comedienne.
My favorite skit. Watch it every night. Tim Conway was a master in his profession ❤
I've never seen the entire skit before, just the Siamese elephants part.🐘🐘 Thanks for the full upload.💜♥️💜
We need this brilliant comedy today! Thank you Carol for all the laughs!
I love Carol Burnett! Decades of laughter and I’m still laughing.
God bless her.
I think that over the years Conway deliberately tried to get them to break character and laugh, all while he remained in character. This time Lawrence beat him.
Wow. You think?
No one will ever equal the comedic performance of Tim Conway!
One of the best skits ever. That one and the dentist
This is one of the funniest shows ever! Just brilliant acting and everything!
20:51 "ffnorky." One of the funniest moments in television. Never forgotten this over the years and it still cracks me up. Siamese elephants! 🐘
I remember when I first watched the four minute clip on UA-cam by myself, god I was dying lol
Tayler : No matter how many times I watch this, I always crack up with laughter, and always notice things I missed earlier. Probably the greatest comedy gem I have known in my 78 years. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
That sound gets me every time I watch this
I saw both of these but the one that didn't air on The Carol Burnett Show was the funniest of the 2. Every time I see the second one I laugh until my stomach hurts 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Carol almost never breaks-up---it was always Harvey---so, to see her work so hard to get control... TOO FUNNY!!
Also, for Vicki, of course!!!
This is the kind of entertainment I remember from when I was young; Carol Burnett Show was one of my favorites, even though I had limited understanding of some of the things they were saying at the time. Thank you, Ohmusicsweetmusic, for posting this~!
I was just a kid when The Carol Burnett Show was on. I watched it faithfully. I absolutely love this ahow
This is STILL the best EVER!
Even Vicky Lawrence had a hard time keeping a straight face! Between Tim Conway and Dick Van Dyke it's almost impossible. This is my favorite skit of all her shows though they're all hilarious!
Tim Conway didn’t have to say a word, and I’d be fallin’ outta my chair. 😆😂🤣😂😆🤣
some of the best skits ever written, carol as eunice was brilliant, the whole cast great, the writing is timeless, poor eunice, desperately wanting the life she can't have. the outtakes are great but the comedic drama was the best.
They don't make em' like this anymore. Pure comedy gold!
this is definitely the top 10 if not the top 3 of skits that will forever be etched in classics tv moments
Classic Comedy Never Gets Old 😂
Can you imagine having the ability to make this group fall apart laughing 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
And Vicki was the only one of the four that was not considered a " comic genius " but she had the chops and the timing to destroy them all especially because she stayed in character until the end. classic classic
This is hilarious! I love Carol Burnett’s reactions to the elephant story! 😂😂
Tim on a tangent was always amazing. I've always wondered if it was true off the cuff stream of consciousness or if he actually had pondered things like the "Siamese elephants" at some point and was just recanting the ridiculous path his brain had meandered. Either way, he had a true knack for comedy that wasn't just funny, but covered in fairy dust that always took a good joke into legendary territory. I was quite young, but I remember watching the Carol Burnett show when I couldn't understand most of the jokes, but found the slapstick side at least as funny as my parents did. I've watched what I can find as an adult and, although it hasn't all aged well, so much still holds water.
I used to watch the Carol Burnet Show and Mamma's Family with my mother when I was a little girl . Now I watch it with my children and grandchildren. I am 45 my oldest daughter is 28, my oldest son 20, youngest daughter 16 and my youngest son is 9 my grandchildren are 6 and not born yet he will be here next month. All the different generations of one family are still watching this show, and another favorite is Golden Girls another classic. I really do appreciate and miss the great shows I am glad to have watched with my family.
I grew up watching her show, she is so funny!
Me too!
This is just hysterical. I laugh till I cry every time.
You can never go wrong with these 4 in a sketch. They were all so funny.
First time ever seeing the whole skit. Very funny elephant stories and a very sad and even maybe depressing ending. All in all, one of the best "Family" sketches.
This was only the second time I had seen the whole sketch -- the first time being when it originally aired. I had totally forgotten about the last minute or so. It rivals "My Fair Lady" (the musical) in its exuberance and joy throughout the entire first part, then when it all comes crashing down. In the Eunice skit, it was totally unexpected. whereas in MFL, only slightly less so.
The original, minus the blooper, was really deep. This is dramedy at its best.
Watching this for about the 20th time and it still kills me. 🤣
Sheer classic! I want to go back in time, and stay there.
Music sweet music ..DANCING IN THE STREET..swinging n swaying..thanks heaps ..love from Australia..xxx
The first time I watched the outtake I laughed so hard I gasped for air and couldn't stop crying! Absolutely the funniest outtake I've ever seen!
Nobody today would think the wire coming out of Tim Conway’s ear is supposed to be a hearing aid, while back then no one would have thought he was listening to music. 😂
I have laughed to tears as the whole cast did the same; Tim Conway is a riot, Carol Burnett amazing, Vicky Lawrence ::::too much
I hope you meant "too much" as a compliment because this scene is nothing without her.
Tim Conway ad-libbed all of this. What a master he was.
And that, my friends, is how you get your own spinoff sitcom in once sketch. Lol
There is some real life irony here. Dick Van Dyke is a recovering alcoholic. He had gone into rehab a couple years before this was filmed and has been sober since.
What fun they must have had. Its a perfect little time capsule. Its things like this tha make me gratefull for youtube.
A comedy genius! Tim has the most unique delivery I've known. I can't think or type all the deserved accolades!
That made me both laugh and cry.
I sure did enjoy this comedy
This show is absolutely 💯 hilarious 😂 😃 😂😅😊😂❤😮😢😅😊. And this episode 🤣 😂 😆 😄 👏 😅 🤣 😂 😆 went over the top. Priceless!!!!!!
Its Never Not Funny, I LOve It.
I love the way they try not to crack up when Tim is doing his bit!!! And Vicki Lawrence comes out with a gem! Mama: Are you sure that little asshole is finished!!!!!!!! LOL!
You are 100% on the mark but, Carol demanded they stay in character.....here is a really good interview with Vicki Lawrence about the elephant story.
ua-cam.com/video/aA7bxTc0AJw/v-deo.html
Viki trying to hold in her smile!
Tight!
It is the best tv show ever😊
Elephant story. Memorial.
In 2020 I wish it was 1977 again. Even high inflation and disco is better than the current year
High inflation is not better THIS year.
Disco ......will always be better.........as to what has become MUSIC !!!! or rather a facsimily.!!!!
I remember loving "certain" skits from the show when i was a kid, Like the Tim Conway stuff was usually Great. I liked about half of the Carol Burnett stuff that centered on her, and almost none of Harvey Korman at all. but i was 7,8,9,10 and didn't like most of the show, because I didn't "get it". Same with M*A*S*H. 50 years later, they're both excellent. Kormans a genius.
The best of the best. It’s the funniest scene I’ve ever watched. Over and over and over. When I was a kid I loved it when they would all break character but this “blooper” was the best. Vicki Lawrence didn’t miss a beat! Tim Conway was so hilarious. And I loved how he lost it as well. One of my favorite videos.
I know we're supposed to be slayed by the second round of elephant story when VL gets to her big moment saying "a$$hole," but that first elephant story is what had me in tears!!! Seeing this clip and him doing that story, finishing with "I don't know whether it was 'cuz of the rumor or not, but they were buried together...with a great big tombstone," is the first real laugh from "The Family" I've ever had! I was one of the Southerners who did NOT find Mama's Family amusing and haven't liked most of the sketches I've seen from the original show; this is a rare exception and a half!!!
OMGosh, the look of disappointment on Tim Conway's face when she drops the extension cords, how have I missed that all these years? This entire skit, along with the Harvey Corman and Tim Conway Dentist one, are talent exemplified.
I worked with Vicki Larence in "Hello, Dolly" Oct. 1983......great show, thank you Vicki!!!!
This and the "turtle turtle" was always my favorites.
No-one has EVER made me laugh the way Tim Conway does. Comedy genius. Why do people like him have to die? Not fair.
I grew up watching this it's hilarious
THEY TRYING SO HARD TO HOLD IT IN 😂😂😂, BEST SKIT EVER CLASSIC
Some expert acting in this scene
EVERYBODY in this scene should've won WAY more awards than they have.
That was a great show. 😂.
The Carol Burnett is really good to love watching it
This will always be my favorite skit.
The first one aired on the East Coast feed. The second one DID air on the West Coast feed. It was not unusual for Tim Conway to go off script for the West Coast feed.
Dick Van Dyke was an alcoholic for many years. In this character, he was perfect! He showed the true feelings and pathos of a "happy drunk".
The best part is seeing this whole skit minus "The Full Elephant" story that didn't make it to air.
That story alone is worth looking up.
In this video they ended up using the pre-recorded tape from the night before.
Tim Conway, on the live taping, destroyed the cast and audience.
Mama ended up swearing. It was a cut
He was a genius, especially when he went off script...I can easily remember watching this show as a kid, and was always mad when he wasn't on it... I loved misses Frawiggins
"Well, it's something, Momma. It's something".
I didn't know whether to laugh or to cry.
The only thing that makes this seem incomplete is not having Harvey Korman there!
Tim Conway - that boy ain't right. rofl
Tim Conway and Bob Newhart were the greatest of all time.
Vicki Lawrence as Mama could kill without saying a word!
The elephant joke was hilarious with Tim Conway it was so hard not to laugh when it got told Mama would literally would nail talking about the little asshole sneeze everybody fell in the floor laughing.
They are all very good
I'm sorry. But this is even better than the SNL cast breaking character!!!!
Mole was a legit clue.
This is most funniest video ever on Carol Burnett Show! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣💞💞💞💖💛🥰🥰❤️❤️😍😍👏🏻💕💕💓💓💓💓
This video had nothing to do with the elephant in the end... the great take is Carole saying "At least it's something mamma, at least it's something...."
Tim made the show, absolutely funniest !
What a wonderful cast
I wish it was more clear so we could see the expressions better!! I can watch this over and over.
I would have loved to be in that audience!!
I hated this show back then ...now I wanna embrace Carol in many of these scenes.
I believe, and could be mistaken, but the elephant story was made up by conway as the others did not know what to expect...which is why they kept breaking characters and laughing...which is contagious to the audience then and now on youtube... :D
I heard that too. The cast was told only that the elephant story had been changed, and Tim improvised it all.
This is absolutely hilarious
I look at this skit year after year and laugh and laugh
