This show will forever be golden. The more you live your own experiences in life and come back to watch through the years, it only becomes more and more relatable. Such a treasure.
thats what made this show so progressive. Golden Girls talked about social and political issues that many other shows in that time period, were afraid to talk about. I think thats what makes it so timeless because as we progress as a society, the more it becomes relatable. I always thought that the Golden Girls was more than a sitcom from the 80s, it was a blueprint.
That’s so true. I’ve noticed over the years my choice of a favorite character has changed. It’s Dorothy now and if God blesses me a long life it’ll probably be Sophia. ❤
Just saying, Bea Arthur would’ve been a great evil step-mother in Cinderella. Tall, the facial expressions, the way she delivers her lines. May her, Estelle, and Rue Rest In Peace.
My brother was also different, in his way. He passed away in 2013. Seeing Sophia break down and say "my baby is gone" is like watching my mom all over again on that day. It hit me hard. No parent should have to live to bury their child. This show was great and so ahead of its time. It tackled all sorts of serious topics without ever getting preachy. A lot of the very best 80s and 90s sitcoms had that in common, but few did it better than Golden Girls.
21:05 A popular cake in Sweden (especially for birthdays) is a princess cake. Usually covered in green marzipan it's traditionally adorned with a single rosebud made of pink marzipan. It's sort of considered a privilege to get the rose, so it's usually reserved for the guest of honor. I wonder if the writers had that in mind.
18:19 Betty was actually a widow in real life when she filmed this, so in a way maybe she put more emotion into this scene than usual. this scene always makes me tear up!
I always think this too. Like how she probably was so filled with sadness and knew this scene all too well. 😔 My first thought when she passed was ooh she gets to be with the her husband. So I smiled and was happy for her.
Okay...who else is gonna start using Magenta to describe the emotion of not knowing how to feel. I forgot all about that scene but it spoke to me on a spiritual level!

Oh my God, Bea Arthur’s expression on her face when the host of that morning show says today we talk to four lesbians. Then she says “ Rose we can’t kill you here because there are cameras.“ I don’t know who wrote these lines for them but kudos for writing hilarious lines like these

These ladies were so ahead of their time! As well broke barriers in the industry, it will be a sad day when Betty White goes. Hopefully, she lives past 100, wonderful job!
I saw an interview with Bea Arthur where she said when she first met the mostly young, male writers, she thought to herself, "I've got food in my refrigerator older than these guys". But she said those young men never ceased to amaze her.
#10 "I Get the Rose" always makes me cry. My opinion is that she wasn't acting and that she was expressing the very real feeling and sadness of missing her true love Allen Ludden. When she says "Charlie, I love you. I miss you." I can't help but cry. He had passed away on June 9, 1981 and this particular scene aired on December 13, 1986. What warms my heart even through tears is that they are together again. By the way, their Password was love.
I have been watching the Golden Girls since I was 19, now 56, every situation they went through is as relatable today, as it was back then, loved the show 🤗
What I really love about watching the golden girls on UA-cam is the number of older people who actually grew up with the show. I certainly didn't because I'm too young, I'm only 21, so I never waited for the episodes to come out. I only found out about the show 6 years ago when I was watching the amazing world of gumball.
"I get the rose" that scene never hit me like this before. I lost my first husband in 2006, and now I just cry. It is amazing what becomes relatable after you have lived it.
"My Brother, My Father" is one of my all time favorite episodes! Especially when Blanche, dressed as a nun, blurts out "Oh Jesus!" and quickly recovers with "Please protect us and watch over us in this our hour of need". 😂😂😂
The “You’ll Always Be My Sisters” scene really is a tear jerker. But in lue of the legendary Betty Whites’ passing we can all rejoice as they are all reunited as the golden girls we all knew and grew to love
Makes me sad knowing all these legends have left us now but the memories and laughs in these episodes will last forever. ❤️thank you girls for the laughs and being a friend to everyone of us.

I watched this show , I had no idea what an impact the show would make! The acting was iconic and very good! RIP Golden Girls! You will live with us forever!
20:55 whenever the real rose comes out , and when she realizes she’s alone talking to herself again when she ended up moving in with new roommates , is what made me fall in love with her character because it’s her most vulnerable state without the humor that overshadows that side of her , I love rose
Watching Rose talk to Charlie brought tears to my eyes especially since I read that when Betty - as Rose - talked to Charlie she was - in a way - talking to her late husband Allen Ludden
I never expected to be so profoundly affected when I clicked on this video. The clip of 😊Rose in her St. Olaf home, "talking" to her late husband Charlie, really hit me. My husband passed away nearly 4 years ago, & I too need to move on & start a new chapter in my life. I've been needing/wanting to move, but just can't bring myself to even look for a new place. I get numbers to call for apartments, but never actually call. The scene with Rose telling Charlie of her plans to move to Miami has encouraged me to actually DO something. Thanks Rose. RIP Betty.
Howiesgirl, I know how you feel as after my husband died 8 years ago, I had to sell our home right away and move to a new town where I knew only one person. That person moved away to Alberta from where we lived in Ontario so it has been hard. I am disabled and can't do volunteer work so I haven't met many people - even my church to which I have belonged for almost 8 years is not very friendly so no luck there except for one lady. At least, if you are healthy and you have had 4 years to deal with your awful loss, you are in a better place than I am so take your time to choose the best place for you. Your grief will always be with you as I am sure you have discovered so don't expect that to go away in a new town if you do choose a new town. If you stay in your town where you and your husband lived and you have friends there, don't leave them behind; they love you and you love them most likely and good friends are like gold. If you do move to a new town, choose one that offers the kinds of activities that you enjoy. Best of luck to you!

Number 5 is my favorite. When I became sexually active when I was 20 I was embarrassed at first but what Blanche said made me realize I have nothing to be embarrassed or ashamed of because I’m protecting myself and the other person.

'what kind of pain and embarrassment has this lifestyle caused your mother?"
'I really don't know but, I'll ask her tomorrow when I visit her at --- the home' that was hysterical, Sofia trolling cut-off at the knees hehe

Every time Dorothy hints at shadey pines, when Sophia plays up, she shuts up straight away.
@@JohnLee-pt5jz basically Kryptonite to Sophia hehe

Hats off for Betty White, for keeping on straight face during The Great Herring War. Bea and Rue were totally broke out the character, and couldn't keep on but laughing.
:)
I agree Betty was brilliant, but how do we know the other two weren't supposed to be laughing?
@@IamTwirling4Joy Because they were burying their faces, rather than the heads-up laughs of the scripted laughs.
I was just thinking, I have NO idea how she kept a straight face…. I guess it’s because I’m not a once-in-creation comedic genius. RIP Betty 💖
@@tookitogo That's what I was thinking. That laughter was completely off script. They simply couldn't help themselves and I was right there with them. I've got tears in my eyes just imagining a herring flying out of a cannon. It ranks right up there with the Knights of Nih skit.
This show will forever be golden. The more you live your own experiences in life and come back to watch through the years, it only becomes more and more relatable. Such a treasure.
💜
thats what made this show so progressive. Golden Girls talked about social and political issues that many other shows in that time period, were afraid to talk about. I think thats what makes it so timeless because as we progress as a society, the more it becomes relatable. I always thought that the Golden Girls was more than a sitcom from the 80s, it was a blueprint.
Sure did
That’s so true. I’ve noticed over the years my choice of a favorite character has changed. It’s Dorothy now and if God blesses me a long life it’ll probably be Sophia. ❤
I dig it

Just saying, Bea Arthur would’ve been a great evil step-mother in Cinderella. Tall, the facial expressions, the way she delivers her lines. May her, Estelle, and Rue Rest In Peace.
I hear that!
Dorothy would make a great Cruella Deville
Interesting observation, since Bea was actually offered the role of Ursula in the Little Mermaid.
Maybe that’s because she resembles the grandmother from Disney’s cinderella?
@@gojewla She really does!!

🤣😂🤣😂
Dorothy was shocked🤣🤣
"I have no idea who this woman is, I bought these for my brother." Too funny
@@jenniferhill2123 Hardly less embarrassing.
🫂💕
No show did it better.
"Tell me, Rose.....(genuinely chuckles)...... did they ever shoot a herring out of a cannon?"

Oh far out thank you for sharing
I think so!!
ILOVE marzipan❤
18:19 Betty was actually a widow in real life when she filmed this, so in a way maybe she put more emotion into this scene than usual. this scene always makes me tear up!

I always think this too. Like how she probably was so filled with sadness and knew this scene all too well. 😔

Oh my God, Bea Arthur’s expression on her face when the host of that morning show says today we talk to four lesbians. Then she says “ Rose we can’t kill you here because there are cameras.“ I don’t know who wrote these lines for them but kudos for writing hilarious lines like these

Dorothy standing up for Blanche & Rose in "Go to Hell" scene is the sweetest thing that someone could do for a friend!
Well actually it's more she is saying go to hell because of Barbara's anti semitism
I love Dorothy- she’s fierce but always loyal and there for those she loves!
I wish Blanche would have let Dorothy stand up for Blanche’s daughter and tell that boyfriend to go to Hell! Or really Blanche should have said it herself.
@@StayGoldenGirls Exactly. One of the social topics they tackled so effectively. And, one of the instances - peppered throughout the series - that reminded most of us in the know that Bea and Estelle were Jewish. 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼

There were a couple times I think Betty was channeling her grief for Allen. Like when she talked about how Charlie died to Dorothy in one episode.

What I really love about watching the golden girls on UA-cam is the number of older people who actually grew up with the show. I certainly didn't because I'm too young, I'm only 21, so I never waited for the episodes to come out.

RIP Betty.
I feel you on that. Thank you so much for sharing, I am so sorry about the passing of your husband. Loss is the worst
