WHITE HORSES (Pevensey Bay) ...MIXED BAG

  • A late spring session at White Horses, Pevensey Bay (East Sussex, UK), recorded 15.05.20.
    I fished this mark, since Langney Point and Sovereign Park (Eastbourne) were too busy. I set out trying to catch anything that swims; however, a much welcomed early sole, caused me to focus on targeting this species. A decent, mixed bag of fish was the end result. The successful rigs used to catch here are shown, with some reasoning behind the methods employed.

    I really like the way you produce the vids, particularly the way the cameras track and zoom as you move around. Are you using a tracking gimbal or some post production trickery? I know you're a fishing channel but a short video on equipment/software used would be interesting. Thanks for all the effort put in, they're some of the best fishing videos on youtube.

    • @rodsangleuk6283

      Many thanks for your interest and comments Andy. Still learning to film and edit properly and once I've cracked it, I may then produce a video on the process - but I don't feel competent enough yet! The tracking is done in post-production - I just have think about positioning the action cameras in the right place all the time whilst fishing!

    Thanks very much for posting this.....I was beginning to get withdrawal symptoms! I really do look forward to watching your videos. Lovely venue and so few people about. What time did you arrive? What leader do you use - straight through of tapered and do you have a preference? I noticed you obtained your lugworm from Southend - did you dig it yourself or buy it and if you bought it can I ask where from? Sorry for the questions but I am genuinely interested. A great session and another great video. Looking forward to the next one especially since I have fished from Grays Wharfe myself. Stay safe and stay healthy. Cheers. Ken

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  4 роки тому +1

      Many thanks again for your comments and interest Ken. I arrived about noon after looking over other venues. Langney Point and Sovereign Park were crowded, but no one was fishing here and there weren't many on the beach. I tend to use 28lb or 34lb Stern mono for leader line when using 20lb braid or 16lb nanofil. I go up to 60lb (but prefer 40lb or 50lb) with 30lb braid, but find that using thick mono with fine braid causes problems. I don't get on with tapered leader lines for the same reason - also end up with wind knots.
      I've recently been digging my own lug and am suffering from doing so now - not my knees, but hand swollen up after doing this too often!
      Grays Wharf can be hit or miss this time of year - I prefer it in July, preferably with no weed or crabs about!

    Up here in Scotland only just allowed back to fishing but within 5 miles of home which stops me going to usual spot at greenock on the clyde the close spot I've never fished its further up the estuary rough weeded and crab ridden mixed with mud and sand can have quite a flow also
    What rig do u think would suit for flounder( flatties)

      @rodsangleuk6283  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Rob - thanks for watching and glad you can now get back to fishing. For flounders in fast flow, I would probably go for a one or two hook running ledger; maybe with pop-up beads to avoid the crabs. Best of luck!

    Enjoyable Thanks.One question ,Why are snoods sometimes long,sometimes short.

    • @nemesisslr
      @nemesisslr 4 роки тому +1

      I use short snoods for whiting, pout, bream and eels. For flatties longer snoods seem to work better.

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks for that John. That's a very good question and one I hope to cover in a future video, once I've got a greater range footage to cover that! In general I'll use shorter snoods for flatfish, being bottom feeders and particularly if bites are very shy and usually if there is a strong tidal pull; however there are times when larger flatties prefer more of a moving bait and snood length needs to be increased, or you just catch the small ones.
      It's not an exact science and varies with venue, conditions and how the different fish (or lack of them!) are responding at the time. That's what makes this sport interesting and frustrating at the same time! I catch a few, but often leave thinking I could have done better using different rigs with different length snoods - I try to point that out if I remember to!

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks for contributing nemesissir. I tend to do better with shorter snoods for flatties - very short for dabs and soles. Probably depends on the venue and conditions!

    • @nemesisslr
      @nemesisslr 4 роки тому

      @@rodsangleuk6283 I fish beaches with a lot of tide run. I think the way the bait flutters attracts the Dabs, Plaice and Flounder. I do agree that shorter snoods with a SSG split shot to nail the bait to the bottom.

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  Рік тому

      Yes OK for mono; but too thick for 20lb braid - you get more wind knots if there is too much of a difference in line thickness.

      Thanks for watching David. Soles are my favourite fish, so glad one made an appearance!
      Yes, sometimes other beach users can be an issue, but we share the space, so have to be careful with casting (no OTG or pendulum casting when others are near - not that I try these that often!) and mindful with gear left lying around etc.. Some are not aware of tide state and will settle down behind you, cutting off your retreat when the tide comes in - unless you gently inform them that you are intending to move up with the tide. Swimmers, paddle boarders and the like also present challenges - just have to deal with it!
      Quite a few have asked about the bucket seat. Its a RidgeMonkey CoZee Bucket System XL - several online stores sell them - shouldn't have a problem finding one.

      I did once pendulum over a nudie swimmer in NZ, irresponsible for a bloke in his 60s. He sent me a message (F off) and I responded in kind. Nobody got hurt, I got snagged and lost the hook link, karma? I would not do this again. As an aside, it was quite a hike to the mark, didn't go back.
